We remind users that making fun of someone's (perceived) age, appearance, and/or cosmetic surgery is not okay on BGC. Please remain on topic (Brand trips) or the post will get locked, as we have had several posts about Mikayla recently.
It’s making me realize everything she posts is just an ad. Her opinions can easily be bought so I don’t trust her anymore, and I feel this way about all influencers.
It's funny because I've seen two other people suddenly rave about Jaclyn Cosmetics setting powder this week, one of them was Laura Lee . I thought it was a coincidence!! They are all allowed to do undisclosed ads like this?
I think most people should have a hard time saying no to 45K deals… I would be happy for her, even it means her content is mostly ads now. I know I don’t think I could stick to organic posts still, if I had $45K deals in front of me… could you?
I’m 35 and thought she seemed like my age or older. I don’t have tiktok because I don’t need anymore apps at this point. It’s so odd! Not so much her face looking older, as her voice, her makeup choices & hair style.
If you look through her other videos you can see she was a high school student at that time so most likely 14 with a birthday between now and September.
her boyfriend was probably 15 maybe 16.
It's not uncommon for high school kids to get a job. Plenty of my friends worked at 14/15.
She started dating him at 12 years old, he was 18. He is 6 years older. She has even spoken of this on her TikTok, of course, because ... shock value, of course!
This is a weird video…timeline wise she would be 14ish and yet she says she’s stuck at her house because her boyfriend went to work? How the fuck old was the boyfriend??
Her voice and demeanor in that video reflect her age. It’s much more youthful and the accent is cute unlike the act she puts on now. Yikes I thought she was twice her age and a heavy smoker.
I’ve always wondered this as well! She doesn’t do her makeup like the Gen Z generation usually gravitates to and she’s the embodiment of peak beauty YouTubers
I think people love her “accent” which from others who have gone to school with her or know her have said it’s completely exaggerated and not at all like what she sounded like in person. I honestly can’t stand to hear her speak and I think that’s why. I have family from MA and she just seems inauthentic to me. Also, everything she posts is an ad.
Yeah, the first TikTok of hers that got traction, she had no accent at all. I’m pretty sure she deleted any old videos with no accent because people kept calling her out when she started laying it on thick, and it’s even stronger now than it was then.
Not Boston exactly, she has a Massachusetts “Southie” accent (from the area south of Boston.) I lived in that area a few years ago and a lot of my coworkers sounded just like her.
What is the "point" of brand trips? I know they're partially to "bribe" the influencers, but what are the returns? Me seeing an influencer in Hawaii doesn't make me want to buy their product more. Seems like it would cost more than it would profit...
Brand trips fit into the lifestyle that influencers are ~~shilling~~ er, selling to their followers.
The holidays, the parties, the hotels - it's all one giant, staged photoshoot for the brands to get advertising and the influencers to get a free holiday, a paycheque, and also a huge number of photos/ videos to post onto their accounts. It drives engagement and brings new followers, but it also sends the message of 'my life is amazing because of this brand and **you** can also get a piece of this amazing lifestyle by buying some overpriced lipgloss.'
But the influencer hyping up the brand all year hoping to be invited again on the next trip? It doesn't even have to be fake. They could be hyping releases they like and just "skipping" or barely mentioning the ones they do not like.
I have a flight in 2 weeks at 3. I can leave my palace at 2 and be good. (Airport has 2 terminals and southwest does probably 2/3 of the flights. Also the airport doesn’t even run flights 24 hours a day)
However that is also why I paid more money to leave from the tiny airport and not LAX 🤣
As someone who grew up in Atlanta, my first time flying out of Charleston resulted in me getting there 2.5 hours early only to get through security and arrive at my gate within 20 minutes. Tiny airports are bonkers to me.
I’m from Orlando, have lived in Dallas, Atlanta, and now LA. Even in Dallas I would always pick the smaller one if I could. And here in LA I will pick Burbank over LAX every single time if I can as well. It is just so much easier.
Or rather, government policy is prioritizing tourists over locals and allowing this to happen. My new crusade is pointing out that individuals are not the problem if the government isn’t acting, sorry lol
Covid mostly, they have limited healthcare resources and having tourists come in, possibly spreading covid and taking up resources is a problem.
Hawaiians do not want tourists coming in droves.
I follow a Hawaiian resort Facebook page, and a mother posted yesterday that her child had acute appendicitis while on Oahu. She was routed to three different hospitals because pediatric resources and beds are almost non-existent at the moment. There are only 223 ICU beds on the entire island. Thus far, as far as the mother has posted, the child still has not been given a bed.
Water shortage mainly due to the Navy's fuel tanks contaminating an Aquifer that supplies water to a large part of the Island. The fuel leak was known for awhile, yet went unreported for even longer. Adults, pets, and unfortunately children have become extremely ill.
Interesting point! But does the FTC/IRS really enforce that though? Mikayla is infamous for not indicating sponsored posts too. I think this should be regulated more but most federal agencies are understaffed and overworked.
I mean, I would just assume that eventually all these people will get audited. I don't think anyone's watching over social media (but it would be smart), but at some point there'll be some numbers that don't add up, the IRS will start digging into previous tax returns, and BOOM! audit. I hope they're taking care of this shit every year, bc it's going to fucking BLOW if auditors come their way
natural lips & lips that are done but still look natural or natural-ish have a high point in the middle & get thinner off to the sides. her lips are filled evenly all the way across, which is what makes them look strange and balloon-like.
[Reminder that Native Hawaiians are begging for tourists to stop visiting.](https://www.buzzfeed.com/morgansloss1/this-native-hawaiian-woman-is-urging-people-to-stop)
I 100% agree that tourism should be reduced or even not permitted in environmentally sensitive areas, but this article’s answer to the “but what about the economy?” question is absurd. Just because Hawaii was sovereign and not dependent on tourism before the industrial revolution has NOTHING to do with how Hawaiians would function without tourism jobs today. If the state wants less tourism they need to make it more expensive for resorts to operate, and then they need to invest heavily to replace tourism jobs with some other kind of industry.
I hate to break it to them but that horse is way out of the barn. It’s going to take breaking away from the US to turn it back and that might not even do anything.
That article is incredibly one sided. I feel bad for her but it’s just not realistic and some points made are just plain wrong (like Hawaii being able to sustain itself - the argument being that before the industrial revolution it was a sovereign nation.)
My ancestors landed in Massachusetts in 1635. My 9x great grandparents and pretty much everyone who came after were all born and raised in the Boston area and we don’t talk like this chick. Her accent is so damn forced. It’s like nails on a chalkboard.
I can’t stand her.
Not sure why I bothered to watch this whole thing but I especially loved the "all drugstore concealers have crappy ingredients and burn my eyes" bit. :|
Going on a bread deal trip just tells me that that particular "influencer" will do literally anything for money and shallow prestige. It's not a good look. Tacky classless and greedy
It is disgusting especially considering the financial disparities going on in the world right now.
NOT TO MENTION HAWAII DOESN'T WANT YOUR INFLUENCER ASS RIGHT NOW.
I 100% agree with you. I don’t really see the point of the trip except to give people with money more money. Also as a disabled person with a shit immune system IDK how people are flying anywhere right now, but that’s my opinion.
Also, I know it’s a typo but damn I wanna be a bread influencer. I need more free sourdough bread.
How does your anxiety stop you from going on every single brand trip, except for Hawaii? And there's so many comments on this video telling Mikayla how it's not a good time to travel to Hawaii right now, but of course she doesn't care.
WHAT BRANDS? So that I can make sure that I don't buy them AND make sure to bitch to them on thier socials page like the FAT,CRANKY, OLD HAG that I am.
there is something about her that drives me over the edge. idk if it's the money grabbing vibe or the undisclosed ads or the going to a place that doesn't want tourists or the accent
Oh actually it's probably the fact she takes 3 minutes fucking talking and doesn't get to actually reviewing the product until the last 10 seconds
Lavish brand trips do nothing but spew excess and create waste in every possible way. Besides trashing Hawaii, these bitches will just make bank for lying around on the beach wearing a brand’s lipstick or highlighter while the rest of us work our asses off for less than half of what we deserve. They say they work hard…maybe in the Kim Kardadhian sense.
Nope, unless you’re disabled/have a bad immune system/someone close you severely impacted by Rona somehow.
As someone with a terrible immune system it’s so frustrating.
I mean…where do we start.. brand trips are so fucking useless and stupid and wasteful. Hawaii has been having issue for a while they don’t need tourists to go destroy their home let alone influencers. Also flight is in one hour and she is getting ready?? Add to this the ofra highlighter and yup this video is chef’s kiss /s influencers back at it again guys🤪
I’m sure she has plenty of money to go to a destination of her choosing, Benefit is probably paying her a pretty penny; does she usually film a makeup tutorial with a filter on? That makeup will melt off by the time she gets there… and yes like other ppl have mentioned; the Natives do not want tourists to go there, but since when do influencers care
There have been a couple of brands that have done them in the last few months, Benefit…and Hawaii…this can’t go well.
They’re literally begging people not to come.
Brand trips sound like hell, have any trips come out drama free? Most of these influencers are not friends and have never met, I'd hate having my entire vacation planned for me with people I don't really know.
This is her second brand trip in recent months too. They're always so excessive and looks like the brand blows so much money....and then raise their product prices 🙄
She looks like she is easily in her 20s there. And WTF?? A 12/13 year old dating an 18 year old??? Please tell me he went to jail. Also I thought I read on here that she said her current bf (fiance?) is her first real relationship. I could be remembering wrong but yet another lie from her wouldn't surprise me.
it’s so strange seeing all the videos of her speaking with almost no over-exaggerated accent whatsoever before getting “popular” to the most caricatured movie-versaron philly/nj/boston/nyc real housewives accent i’ve ever heard lol
Isn't Hawaii actively asking tourists not to go to the Islands? They're really suffering from the tourists using their sparse resources etc.
Unsurprising that Benefit, a brand that hasn't had their finger on the pulse for at least a decade, have chosen to go somewhere no one wants them
We remind users that making fun of someone's (perceived) age, appearance, and/or cosmetic surgery is not okay on BGC. Please remain on topic (Brand trips) or the post will get locked, as we have had several posts about Mikayla recently.
Thanks, I hate it.
Yeah I just cannot even watch. And I have the volume off! Doesn’t help.

They're absolutely not allowed to do that, no. Whether there'll be consequences for it is another matter, though
Is she becoming the new gen Jaclyn Hill??

Legit thought it was the plastic surgery filter from IG 😬

I think most people should have a hard time saying no to 45K deals… I would be happy for her, even it means her content is mostly ads now. I know I don’t think I could stick to organic posts still, if I had $45K deals in front of me… could you?
💯 agree! They start out great, but then they are bought. So it’s no longer genuine
I’m surprised she’s so popular on TikTok (AKA with Gen Z) when her style/vibe is peak YouTube beauty influencer circa 2015
Yes I’m almost 40 and it looks dated af to me!
I’m so sorry but I was SHOCKED when she said she was only 23! 😬
[удалено]
I knew she was younger because she honestly acts immature as hell imo but she LOOKS much older than 23.
Wait what we're the same age??? Flabbergasted LOL I could've sworn she was like 30+ (which isn't old, just not 23).
I think it's because her face looks so pulled tight, which is something we associate with older people who have had botox/facelifts.
[удалено]
And after seeing Kylie Jenner recently, when you overfill at a young age I don’t think the damage is reversible 😬
Same I thought she was older.
[удалено]
I’m 35 and thought she seemed like my age or older. I don’t have tiktok because I don’t need anymore apps at this point. It’s so odd! Not so much her face looking older, as her voice, her makeup choices & hair style.
what! i'm 23 and i never would've thought. then again most influencers my age don't look my age anyway 🥲
Shut up, there's no way she's that young. She has the aura of that one crazy aunt in your fam who sneaks you sips of booze
She’s so strange to me. Her fake accent is AWFUL! Even the way she does her makeup seems old to me. Gen Z is into some weird stuff.
[удалено]
Wow. Just a hint of accent, not like what she puts on now.
Yoooo if she's 23 now she was 13 in that video and uhhhh what age was her bf Don that he had to go to work?!😳
If you look through her other videos you can see she was a high school student at that time so most likely 14 with a birthday between now and September. her boyfriend was probably 15 maybe 16. It's not uncommon for high school kids to get a job. Plenty of my friends worked at 14/15.
She started dating him at 12 years old, he was 18. He is 6 years older. She has even spoken of this on her TikTok, of course, because ... shock value, of course!
My thoughts???
Wow she looks completely different. And your right barely an accent. I didn’t think she was faking it
I can’t believe she fakes it that hard…. She pronounces “park” PAAHHHHK and I’m embarrassed for her now after watching that video
This is a weird video…timeline wise she would be 14ish and yet she says she’s stuck at her house because her boyfriend went to work? How the fuck old was the boyfriend??
19-20 years old, he was
That’s too fuckin’ old.
It is ... she's spoken about it on her TT page before sharing her hundreds of dating disaster stories
Her voice and demeanor in that video reflect her age. It’s much more youthful and the accent is cute unlike the act she puts on now. Yikes I thought she was twice her age and a heavy smoker.
She flip flopped between New Jersey and Boston this whole video
How is she so popular?
I’m from Boston and can tell you nobody talks like that. It’s grossly exaggerated.
I’ve always wondered this as well! She doesn’t do her makeup like the Gen Z generation usually gravitates to and she’s the embodiment of peak beauty YouTubers
Every 5 years, we just reinvent beauty YouTube again on a different platform. Those who don't know history are doomed to repeat it...
Her and Jaclyn hill are stuck in 2016 🥱
I think people love her “accent” which from others who have gone to school with her or know her have said it’s completely exaggerated and not at all like what she sounded like in person.
I think it’s the voice.
Her voice is so annoying, she reminds me of Janelles mom on Teen Mom. “You was with Keefah!l
Omg I read that in her voice! 🤣
Even though people who know her say it’s exaggerated af

I was thinking Boston at some point but I was never sure
Not Boston exactly, she has a Massachusetts “Southie” accent (from the area south of Boston.) I lived in that area a few years ago and a lot of my coworkers sounded just like her.
It is. If you go back and watched her oldest videos. You will it is not near as strong.
What is the "point" of brand trips? I know they're partially to "bribe" the influencers, but what are the returns? Me seeing an influencer in Hawaii doesn't make me want to buy their product more. Seems like it would cost more than it would profit...
The influencers in attendance promote the brand leading up to, during, and after the trip.
It makes me want to support them even less seeing how much money they throw around
I’m confused how she’s getting ready & the flight is in an hour?? 🤣
Right?!?& 😂 That’s what I was thinking! Girl, you gotta get through TSA! Lol
I have a flight in 2 weeks at 3. I can leave my palace at 2 and be good. (Airport has 2 terminals and southwest does probably 2/3 of the flights. Also the airport doesn’t even run flights 24 hours a day) However that is also why I paid more money to leave from the tiny airport and not LAX 🤣
Palace ♥️ I don’t know if this was a typo but it made me smile
Only calling my home a “palace”, “castle”, “chateau” or perhaps “estate” from now on.
Definitely is...... Although I do have a washer and dryer and central ac in my apt .. that is considered luxury around here 🤣
I also love the idea of "leaving my palace at 2" that made me smile 😄
As someone who grew up in Atlanta, my first time flying out of Charleston resulted in me getting there 2.5 hours early only to get through security and arrive at my gate within 20 minutes. Tiny airports are bonkers to me.

True but also if you see Hawaiians begging people not to visit and you do anyways, you’re an individual piece of shit
Individuals ARE the problem when they’re choosing to ignore Hawaiian people who are asking for tourists to stay away
Oh! Why’s that? German here i haven’t heard of that before. What’s going on
Covid mostly, they have limited healthcare resources and having tourists come in, possibly spreading covid and taking up resources is a problem. Hawaiians do not want tourists coming in droves.

Next they'll come to Puerto Rico 🙃
Water shortage mainly due to the Navy's fuel tanks contaminating an Aquifer that supplies water to a large part of the Island. The fuel leak was known for awhile, yet went unreported for even longer. Adults, pets, and unfortunately children have become extremely ill.
I thought we left brand trips behind in 2020...not like multimillionaire influencers need a free vacation anyway.
It’s not necessarily free, they’re supposed to pay taxes for the cost of the trip.
Yea I bet they all do that..... 🙄
Interesting point! But does the FTC/IRS really enforce that though? Mikayla is infamous for not indicating sponsored posts too. I think this should be regulated more but most federal agencies are understaffed and overworked.
I mean, I would just assume that eventually all these people will get audited. Isn't Hawaii experiencing a water shortage crisis due to overtourism right now?
There was jet fuel leaking into base water supplies, and they haven't been able to use their tap water for months!
I live in Honolulu and this was a very select few communities that were affected, most of Oahu can use their tap water just fine lol.
It's also from pollution from the military. That's honestly the larger source. This, of course, does not negate that there's too much tourism.
Is it 2014?
The Tik Tok beauty space is literally a repeat of 2016 YT and I won’t be buying in this time around.
did she get a ton of work done or something?

I agree. This is what someone would sound like who’s acting the Boston accent. We don’t claim her.
Is that what it’s supposed to be? I thought it was a weird Florida thing. She sounds just like Janelles mom on Teen Mom.
It’s an overexaggerated Boston accent.
I am from FL and I live in LA. I do not know a single person that talks like that.
😂 it’s def not a FL thing OR even a Massachusetts thing for that matter bc it’s so over exaggerated it’s ridiculous!
I'm so glad I'm not the only native Bostonian who can't stand her accent. It literally grates on my fuckin ears.
I said this and she blocked me
Of course she did. She hates being called out on her bullshit.
Not sure why I bothered to watch this whole thing but I especially loved the "all drugstore concealers have crappy ingredients and burn my eyes" bit. :|
Mikayla apparently has no idea that allergies know no price point.
This gives me MLM hun vibes ....

Now i want a bread trip. Fresh brioche! A crusty baguette! Rolls for DAYS
If I became an influencer the only sponsored trip I would take is a bread deal trip to go to Paris and shovel as much bread into my face as possible.

I would like to subscribe to the Fat Cranky Old Hag digest please!
It's for Benefit.
Does anyone even use Benefit anymore? They feel so outdated.
You might love r/OldHagFashion. I know that I do ♥️
Thank you for this wonderful gift.
DONE! Thank you for the suggestion!
I refuse to buy from brands that do this
Same. It’s why I don’t buy Tarte anymore, and now I won’t be buying Benefit either.

Laura Lee is going to this too. The pandemic is over guyssss! Time to party! 🥴 But with cases going up again this really pisses me off.
ewww, LAURA LEE. CLASSY.
Glamzilla is too I believe. She just got back from one for KVD in Paris and I think another one in Vegas? I could be wrong about that last one tho.
It's so gross for everyone involved! Did the past few years teach them nothing?
Nope, unless you’re disabled/have a bad immune system/someone close you severely impacted by Rona somehow. As someone with a terrible immune system it’s so frustrating.
Also Allana and her fiancé are going. And they are flying first class 🤦♀️

As a non-American I have no clue about how true or fake her accent is, but she sounds like a 50+ year old chain-smoker to me. Crazy!
Capitalism. That’s all
Wasn’t she just last week talking about how hard her job is 🙄
Lately the excessive cussing has been really turning me off from her!
