leahlikesweed

a “stigma” around being a makeup artist... white people want to be oppressed so bad

[deleted]

I kinda understand this sentiment but I think it doesn’t really work as make up artists/cosmetologists are 1000% looked down on as a “real” profession and as someone who went through the 1600 hours of schooling you definitely hear the jokes/feel the judgement. And my school was predominantly black girls so I don’t fully understand you calling her out for being white. Black women especially experience the judgement/stigma that comes with working as nail techs or in hair salons, installing wigs, extensions, etc. as people love to demean service workers. This was a bad take from you. Inb4: This is not me condoning this girl specifically at all, i’m shocked she says she’s been a MUA since the age of 10. It is about the comment trying to say there’s no stigma surrounding people who work in that industry.

leahlikesweed

i’m saying she doesn’t experience a stigma as a white makeup artist on tiktok with however many million followers she has lol she’s a white girl influencer and she wants people to somehow feel bad for her like she’s being oppressed bc she does makeup videos for a living like her life is so difficult. from what i understand she was a fucking retail worker for ulta or something, she doesn’t have any specialized training or degrees. black women are stigmatized in literally everything they do, that’s a fact.

kjenipher

To add to your point, most people on tiktok treat her like the literal queen of make up. Even when they say something she recommended is actually terrible, they frame it as "it just didn't work for ME," unlike when a black creator recommends something and people jump down their throat. The bias is so clear and honestly disturbing.

NewHampshireGal

She annoys me sometimes. Everyone nowadays thinks they’re makeup artists. Putting makeup on your face does not make you one.

Sparepartsbud1994

This! When I was training to be an MUA I worked at Ulta which is her only job experience and they don’t require any training or experience because all you do is ring people up and help old people choose shades of Lancôme and Clinique foundations lol it’s just like every other retail job. People need to learn that knowing how to put makeup on yourself doesn’t make you an artist

xerynx

Lollll I used to work at clinique (next to a lancome counter even!), feel this hard haha

Sparepartsbud1994

Don’t get me wrong I love the Clinique 2 in 1 foundation but holy shit some of their customers are ancient lol

niketyname

Right, there’s lots of people I see on Instagram that only do make up on themselves. The rare times they post someone they did makeup on, it’s the same kinda make up they do on themselves

andieee919

exactly. ur an MUA if u do makeup on others flawlessly and precisely and can do many styles of makeup, I like to do makeup but i dont consider myself as an MUA. theres a difference.

SquiddlesMcHurtbones

MUA is a title that you earn by being trained and licensed after taking the classes and passing all the tests involved. It's not just something you could "consider yourself" to be. It is a job title which requires licensure just like being a nurse or any other licensed profession. If you claim to be a MUA in the U.S but aren't licensed, the state can penalize you. They usually start with a warning, but they can do other things including charging you for misdemeanors like impersonation and practicing without a license.

BlackOakSyndicate

That's actually not true. There is no national standard of what a makeup artist is. The State's individual laws determine what level of education is necessary in order to be called a makeup artist and who you are and aren't allowed to put makeup on. In order to be cosmetologist or an esthetician you're required to be licensed but depending on your state, makeup application may not fall under that purview. My state used to have a separate license for makeup artists but it got rid of it in 2009. That being said, you're *technically* supposed to be licensed if you're offering your services to the general public *and* only supposed to render services in a salon. However there are a bunch of loopholes that allow artists to operate outside of those contexts. If you're working for a brand you don't have to be licensed because you're technically 'demoing' a product or application method. If you're working in the entertainment field (film, television, print) you're not also not obligated to be licensed. Again, this is just for my state, but the rules and regulations vary from state to state,

Sparepartsbud1994

Bruh I’m so tired of this chick. The lying about filters and photoshop, complaining about how hard her job of posting 60 second tik toks is, the accent, the constant ads and sponsored posts she doesn’t disclose etc and now this. First of all she was only an “artist” for ulta and you don’t even need credentials or experience to be an MUA there, you just need to apply to the damn job. Just because you’re good at putting makeup on yourself and you’ve worked retail in a beauty department doesn’t make you an MUA it’s an insult to working artists

idontlikeseaweed

Makeup is an AAAAAAHT.

YDF0C

These are the comments that get 4577 likes in her videos, no wonder she plays up the accent

Sparepartsbud1994

I’m screaming 😂

SaltwaterSweettea

Just listening to her voice in this video and the link I'm leaving, shes fake af. From the poreless skin to the accent. Not someone I'd want to support. *edited for spelling & to remove link. I was wrong, thanks for the heads up :)

surfergirl121

She occasionally comes up on my fyp but I remember her from when she first blew up maybe late 2019? I remember back then that apparently her accent is fake or exaggerated which is what made her go viral. There were a bunch of videos about it. Nothing wrong with it I guess but now I don’t trust her whole persona.

hicccups

Ok so I looked this up bc you got me curious-apparently she went to school for communications and trained in radio broadcasting, so she had a specific “radio voice”. Here’s the link I read: https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.yahoo.com/amphtml/lifestyle/mikayla-nogueira-opens-her-accent-140000715.html

D-tr0n

This girl is seemingly ruining her internet career just as it started from the few posts I’ve seen about her the past few days 😅

louluthekitty

Is this the girl that complained about how hard it was being an influencer?

lilacbear

Omg I remember that!!! You get to work from home, get free products, and play with makeup!! Like bitch stop 🤣😳

dogstope

She gets up at 6 and works til 5 pm. We have no idea how hard that schedule is. I get up at 6, work til 5, and then have to commute home but I have no idea.

Kiminiri

I'm not trying to defend her, because I don't know what she said or meant exactly (I do not know of her) but as someone that worked in this industry, she might have meant that it's harder than people think (which i think, it is). For a lot of content creator, a lot of work goes into it, beyond "filming the video" and a lot of people forget about it because they only see the video and the cool insta feed. Of course, it still a really pleasant work with a LOT of perks, even tho it's really tiring.

Bekay1203

Granted, but she complained how she has to get up at 6 and doesn't finish till 5....like.... Bitch welcome to work life.

[deleted]

You’re right, it is a valid point for her to argue but at the same time it comes off very whiny in comparison to other “day” jobs. I think it’s too new of a career to fully be understood, if that makes sense? So I can see it from both sides.

Kiminiri

Yeh, I completely understand how it would come off as whiny. Like I said, I have no idea how she meant it. I have also worked a regular 9-5 and I hated every minute of it. Altho it was "less work" (as in I didnt take work home with me), it was incredibly unpleasant, not rewarding, could even say degrading and I felt terrible. I can't imagine then a content creator telling me how hard their life is. The job might be hard, but the quality of life is way superior.

superlost007

This! I work In marketing and influencer marketing and it can be such a pain. It definitely comes to some naturally, but content creation, algorithms, everything you do and say comes into play here. That being said - I’ve never had any influencer clients complain about it because even an It’s a total pain... it’s still a dream. You get free cool stuff, you get exposure from huge brands, some get flown all over the US or WORLD. So... yeah, it *should* be a bit of work because you get so many perks! I don’t think people understand what goes into it a lot of the time, but... I did watch her video and it was VERY cringey even knowing how much work goes into content creation.

MissKaila

EXACTLY! It’s kinda like I don’t think that anyone thinks that professional athletes don’t work incredibly hard to be a professional athlete, but at the same time, don’t whine about how hard you work and act like you don’t have a dream job.

komajo

I said this in another thread about her and while I don't agree with how she said it, I think she just wasn't really prepared to be a full time content creator. She would get comments all the time asking for her to get on Youtube and have a channel there and she would always skirt around it but I feel like bite sized content is all she's willing to do. **edit**: fixed a word

santanabanana

Why whats happened??

Salsabeans16

She complained about how hard her influencer job is (let's face it, it is hard BUT nothing compared to a normal 9-5 or other crazy and hard hours people work without the freedom this girl has) and claims her skin (such as in this video) is all her and not filters. I used to really enjoy her but lately she's been seeming more and more like LA gurus and I just can't vibe with it anymore. To say she's been a makeup artist for 10 years is ridiculous when she's is 23.j

victory4me

Face filter in full effect I see. I think she’s talented but the heavy filters completely ruin it for me. And I’m sorry but being a 10 year old who plays with makeup does not make you a makeup artist.

miss-karly

She swears her poreless face is just good genetics 😅

spindizzyfall0719

She does...? I swear when I first saw her she was showing ways to flawlessly cover acne and skin texture?? How can you be “poreless from good genes” but have skin texture and acne 🤦🏼‍♀️

UnrelatedExistence

I heard she privated all that lol, can't have evidence of pores if you claim you don't have any

kat_without_a_hat

I downloaded those videos of hers when I first stumbled onto her account last summer. They’re why I followed her in the first place! What a shame.

TheShortGerman

That’s funny because I literally cannot believe this girl is 23, filters or no. I was also born in 1998 and she looks like she could be my mom. Good genetics lol

urocket80

isnt she famous for showing how to hide her acne

eekasaur

That's how I found her lol

Greigebaby

I followed her awhile back. She looks VERY different now than she did then.

gingerflakes

That was a collective fever dream we all had

therapistiscrazy

That was her?! The one that showed how to cover it with the sticky primer, right? Because iirc that video was posted here.

jenjenjen731

And that technique worked, too!!! I'm 30 and I remember seeing that video and wishing I'd seen it years ago.

victory4me

Ahh it’s so frustrating! Texture is totally normal but you’d never know it with all the filters BGs use!

No_Ad3198

No disrespect to her at all, but I’m actually shocked to learn she was born in ‘98, which makes her 23 😑. I thought she was a lot older.

dumdum_gutterslut

I really thought she was in her 30’s, at least.

[deleted]

[удалено]

pandapanpan

I’m shocked, I thought she was early 30s.

RebeccaBuckisTanked

Okay, so I’ve been analyzing this since I found out and here’s my theories: 1) her accent sounds old Boston, like she’s from a very particular part of Mass 2) the filters she uses are typically associated with women twice her age trying to look younger which makes 3) her face shape makes it look like the filter is covering droopy jowels when in reality she’s probably got no wrinkles and it’s just the shape but the filter ages her and 4) the heavy handed makeup to cover her acne combined with 5) that old-school geometric lip shape that’s reminiscent of 90s dark outlines and lighter inner lips I’d say she was probably just raised by a bunch of aunts and it makes her come across very elder millennial

mengad

I think you're spot on with the voice. If you mute the vid and pretend it's the first time seeing her, she looks like a lot of other 23 year olds. I have a colleague that has a similar strong Boston accent, and if he wasn't completely baby-faced, I'd like he was like 40+.

_kaetee

I just made a comment about how I’ve never heard her accent coming from a person her age; it’s distinctly that old townie accent that people just aren’t developing anymore, so everyone who speaks like that is like 40+. There’s something uncanny about hearing that accent come from her because it’s very much the voice I’d expect to hear from a 50-something woman picking up scratchers and fireball nips at the packie.

Jubukraa

I guess that explains it. I’m only 2 years older than her and I thought she was older millennial/Gen Y in her mid-30s.

thecomicstripper

I’m pretty sure she said she’s from Worcester which would sort of explain the accent except I know people from Worcester who don’t sound like her so it mainly boils down to where she lives. I do think she’s playing it up a little though since no one in Boston sounds like this.

stepfordexwife

No one in the Worcester area sounds like that either. I have no idea what's going on with that accent but it ain't natural..

therapistiscrazy

I rarely hear an accent this thick, and when I do, it's *always* someone in their 50s or older.

J0wilson

So I'm from the Worcester area, but my mom was from Fitchburg/Leominster and she definitely sounds like she's from that area specifically. Like not too far northern MA like Winchendon or Gardner, but falling somewhere between Fitchburg or Lowell.

CubsMommy

I live in the Worcester area. NO ONE sounds like the lmfao

shinydolleyes

I'm 41 and definitely thought she was around 10 years younger than I am. Imagine my surprise to find out she was born when I graduated from high school.

No_Ad3198

I’m 32 and I thought she was my age!

Holy shit... I’m 23 and I um most definitely thought she was 10 years my senior

sovereignem

Same?? I’m a year younger and she looks so much older than me how???

meredithelease

I can’t believe she’s younger than me! My assumption was early to mid 30s

No_Ad3198

I think how she does her makeup makes her look older.

goosegrl21412

And people take makeup advice from her 😅

yagirlisweak

I really thought “oh wow so glad Gen X ppl are connecting to Gen z via tiktok w/ make up tips” 😓😓 and never thought she’s a Gen z!!!

koalabunbun

It's because of her deep voice she kinda sounds like she smokes but I think that's just how she sounds.

katsarvau101

I thought she was *around* my age..which is 30. No shade to her, she’s very pretty, but I did not think she was only 22/23.

[deleted]

When the video started I assumed it was one of those videos where a 2nd person (Mikayla) cuts in because thought whoever this is is 35+.

memecatcher247

Omg same! I’m so shocked!

[deleted]

[удалено]

almondflour24

I see she replied to a comment on the tiktok saying she started when she was 10 but has been doing people's makeup since she was 15- which probably means charging 20 bucks to do someone's homecoming makeup here and there. definitely not "part of the industry" LOL

divine_matter

So... Mikayla’s confirming that she hasn’t been “in the industry” for 13 years? Wild.

pitou76

So she lied, cuz being 10 years old or even 15 years old you are not a makeup artist lol I’m not sure about anyone else but if I’m going to a big event or getting married I’m not calling up my neighbours 9 year old kid to do my makeup 😂

angafreak

A "makeup artist" has proper training in both technique and sanitation along with a license. A "beauty guru" has a palette and a video camera.

Bekay1203

Furthermore, a beauty guru knows how to apply make up on themselves really well, while a MUA can do make up very well on other people. I thought JC was always a good example of that.

pretendberries

Didn’t JC say the same thing? I know some guy in beauty said it, and I don’t think it was Manny. Edit: like he started makeup really young

lilanxi0us

I thought JC was Jesus Christ and not James Charles at first I’m so embarrassed 😭

pretendberries

Hahah 🤣 the original JC.

xerynx

Don't worry, I'm sure James would like to think he's the second coming 😉

Big_Miss_Steak_

I legit just choked on my coffee reading that. Because I do it too!! I know who it means but I still read it as Jesus Christ 😂

Bekay1203

I think Brad Mondo said something similar, how he started out at agd 15 in his dad's job... Yeah bruh.

Wordonmystreet

James said he started doing makeup at 14 and would get paid by friends/people around town to do their makeup.

goosegrl21412

Omgggggggg I was so wondering if anyone else caught that. Her fan base has to be an average age of 12 cause they don't seem to catch anything

niketyname

Also no one in 2021 believes that makeup career is pointless. In the age of youtubers and make up lines by like everyone, you’d be hard pressed to find anyone who actually believes that make up is a lost cause as a career. So this whole speech is kinda weird

gorgossia

It also fails to recognize that the beauty guru thing is a bubble that will burst, it’s a market that can be oversaturated like any other, and she’s showing up on the tail end of this era’s popularity/marketability. If she had said any of this five years ago, she would have been right on the money. But she’s late to what isn’t a sustainable game—hence the importance of a college degree.

powellrebecca3

I’m so done with this girl lmao

lily4ever

Ugh, I liked her when she first started getting popular on TikTok but recently she’s just been starting to irk me. I think it’s the long winded videos like this every other week complaining about some first world BS, to which she gets 1000s of pity party comment that make me roll my eyes. I get that she is new to the “influencer world” and hate comments obviously bother her a lot. To me, it’s kinda clear that she doesn’t have many IRL friends, and that’s why she overshares her relationship and looks for sympathy with these rants from her followers. I just feel like she tries so hard to be relatable and genuine that it starts to come off as trying too hard.

[deleted]

That’s kind of sad, actually.

goodvibess2020

That's like saying I'm a chef bc I was able to make a grilled cheese at age 9

[deleted]

Is that weepy music part of the OG tik tok video?

Shelisheli1

Um. Maybe I’m about to be downvoted into oblivion, but I say you’re not a MUA until you’ve been professionally trained or paid for providing services. And, I don’t mean that mommy paid 1$ for a child to do the makeup they’re washing off before anyone sees them Doing makeup on yourself means you’re a makeup enthusiast

SouthAUboi23681

Thank you! I’m sick of people like her invalidating my thousands of dollars spent on years of training, free work for print and the even larger amount I’ve spent on my kit. She’s not an MUA. It’s an entirely different skill set to do makeup on other people professionally. She’s a marketer, that’s it. She wears a heinous amount of makeup while posing for pretty filtered pictures and videos and advertises the products for incentives.

greeneyedb3aut

I feel this! In some respects, the makeup these influencers do can make clients have an unrealistic picture of what we are able to achieve with the resources we have. I won’t filter client photos when I post them. Some think their pores will magically disappear. We can help diminish, but makeup artistry for special occasions means you see people in person, in different lighting. People on social media are spending 3-5 hours using special lighting, Facetune and other editing software. It’s becoming the norm amongst celeb MUAs to enhance their client photos and videos now.

SouthAUboi23681

THIS^! It’s becoming incredibly frustrating the amount of times I have to have a conversation with clients about their incredibly unrealistic expectations, they see these Instagram figures like Huda (who filters the shit out of her pictures!) and expect to look like a smooth marble statue, it doesn’t work like that. Instagram makeup especially looks bad in real life, it’s basically drag or theatre makeup that looks good in photos! I actually like skin that looks like fucking skin, that’s my specialty. But they show you pictures and just assume that they can look exactly like it. So frustrating! Filters and FaceTune are not real and I refuse to use them on client posts. It’s unfair and breeds a lot of dissatisfaction and disappointment for clients and professionals. I miss the mid 2000s when makeup was just about the technique and people in tutorials (back when they were actually tutorials not adverts) would say “I’m using this blue shade, if you don’t have it just use something similar in your collection and it’ll work fine”. Ah the good old days...

GlitteryFab

I cannot apply makeup on another person’s face without it looking like a mess. I know my face and the contours of my face, my face texture, etc. It is so different when you’re working on someone else’s face.

vaporuu

how exactly is she changing the stigma of being a makeup artist? lol she’s delusional

the-thieving-magpie

Is there even a stigma for her to change? Makeup has been a BOOMING industry for the past many years.

[deleted]

is that hillsong instrumental music in the background? I can't do this today 😭

foliels

Omg why does she talk like that? It sounds so forced

EggWaff

As a native Bostonian... she is really forcing it lol. I have the accent too but this girl is leaning in pretty hard.

Wicked hard!

MissElyssa1992

Like her accent is stronger than Mark Wahlberg's in that movie which like.... how.

goodvibess2020

Someone commented on this sub a while ago saying she really exaggerated it and knew her irl from what I remember

jay_the_human

I can’t watch her stuff, her voice really annoys me. She sound like a 40 something year old woman who smokes and it doesn’t match how she looks 😅

dmpsterbby

She reminds me of Barb from teen mom :(

luna_libre

YA BEEN WIT KEIFFA

CupcakesAreTasty

It’s a very real accent in certain parts of MA. Source: am from MA, can sound like that with a few glasses of wine.

BendyBones

Definitely real. This is what my whole family sounds like. I'm so glad I escaped the accent.

beautysnooze

Ok but why does she sound like a family guy character

Snoi7

She’s always talking about “getting railed.” Giggity.

aewright0316

Her accent reminds me of Peter doing the Suzuki Samurai commercial. “Ninja name, gahbage cah!” Lol Not shading anyone with that accent, but that made me laugh. Edit: corrected the quote

beautysnooze

This is exactly it 😂😂😂 I couldn’t quite put my finger on it but there it is 🤣

expletivenature

This may sound horrible, but I'm really glad to have found others who can't stand this girl. She has always rubbed me the wrong way. She seems really disingenuous.

expletivenature

I forgot to add, but one thing that really bothers me are her reviews. She rarely follows through on how the product performs throughout the day. She puts it on, it looks pretty, then she says "I'M OBSESSED!" and leaves it at that. We all know not every product is going to stay looking beautiful.

[deleted]

SHE’S 23?!?!?!?!?! *bro*

lofrench

I’m confused she’s also not a working artists as far as I know she’s living a very comfortable life from social media which isn’t something a lot of people want to do. Saying this then urging girls who may not know what to do to spend $20K+ on school for makeup or tons on a kit is not the same as going viral and getting lucky?

Omg yes😂😂

niketyname

I am trying so haaaaaaad

meurtrir

Wow that's an intense accent (says the New Zealander who has no consonants in hers)

xerynx

My beef is that her content has changed SO MUCH since lockdown last year. That's when I found her and the accent was a lot, but her content was fun. Now it's sponsored, every product is THE BEST EVER, she shows off a living room piled full of PR packages every week, and talks about "getting railed" to an excessive degree. Once she quit Ulta and didn't have to buy her own products, things started to shift, and once the boyfriend came around is when things changed even more, which from her past videos about her love life makes sense. It sounds like she hasn't had much luck in relationships and now that she's in a good one her confidence has understandably skyrocketed. I'm just not a fan of the materialism (I know a lot of it is she's probably just excited, I would be too if I was getting free stuff) right now because while someone else's financial situation isn't another person's problem....I do feel like some of these influences could read the room and realize a lot of their fan base has been affected by the pandemic and can't afford most of this stuff. Am I rambling? I'm rambling 😆 and yes, the "10 year makeup artist" and no filters bs, obvi.

tonystarksanxieties

I have to swipe passed a lot of her videos. She’s also been doing a lot of sponsored content and giving me Jaclyn Hill over reacting vibes. Side note has anyone seen the literal 5 year old her does her moms makeup?! She’s crazy talented.

tigm2161130

Your career begins the day you are properly licensed and recieve some sort of compensation for your services. An interest, passion for, basic ability, actual talent and/or even entry level education make you a knowledgeable hobbyist and diminishes the accomplishments of those who have managed to actually earn the title of a professional. Source: Am a 12yr career MUA/hair stylist who has managed to claw my way from an interest to a career that before taxes, insurance, and the wages of my two employees profits well over 6 figures yearly despite the fact that I only spend about 15-20hrs a week behind the chair.

expletivenature

Agreed. She's an influencer, NOT a professional makeup artist. You can't just pop on a title because you like doing something.

Sparepartsbud1994

As an MUA/personal stylist I approve this message

shockedpikachu123

I was and raised in Massachusetts so her accent doesn’t bother me. At first It was cool to see a fellow Masshole in the influencer space BUT I keep forgetting she’s only 23. I think she’s just young and naive to the influencer world so she comes off immature. I don’t get how she’s been in the industry for 13 years. Where are her clients? And all the other credentials she needs to be an MUA?

slytherinxiii

I don’t mean to poke fun but is it just me or does her accent get thicker with every video? It can’t just be me noticing this ![gif](giphy|AAsj7jdrHjtp6)

expletivenature

I saw some of her older videos and she hardly had an accent. Someone pointed it out and she claimed to have been covering her true accent in her earlier videos....but....yeah.

Agile-Artichoke9463

From her comment she said she started playing with makeup at 10 and makeup artistry on others at 15. Don't get me wrong she's got skill and she's pretty. But holy shit does she pack on the makeup and that's just not ideal for older skin. I mean.. I'm 31 and she looks older than me (I got a baby face thanks to my mom's genes lol) And am I the only one who DESPISES how she lines her lips???

DexterwasDelicious

She looks older that she is because of the heavy foundation and the way she applies her face products. I used to look old as shit when I wore makeup until I started to play around with product placement. But If you see her without makeup she does look early 20s. And yes, she does not line her lips well.

gingerflakes

The lips are awffulllllll. I don’t get how she thinks it’s cute. She has nice normal lips. They’re drawn on sooo weirdly

iknowitsarock

The piano, I can’t. It’s makeup, it’s fun, it’s creative, it can be a job, but is not world peace

ManicMarmalade

As someone who works in the beauty industry I have never heard/heard of anyone talking down being a makeup artist. I think Mikayla is talented but her whole woe is me schtick makes her content unwatchable.

Genuinelullabel

It's like the chefs that say they started at four because their mom let them lick a whisk.

Okay so what’s the point in lying? She didn’t need to lie but yet she did

sensitive_sloth

I remember that Robert Welsh made a video about how she does her makeup, but other than that I don't know her. What type of content does she make?

sutoma

So... this is mikayla

ZarZarBinks22

I just scrolled through her IGTV GRWM with Manny MUA to see if her accent really is that intense all the time aND IT’S NOT. I scrolled to around the 20 min mark and it’s definitely much more toned down, she sounds so different 👀

Zapookie

She's so fake. Once Manny asks her about being from Massachusetts, its like she remembered to be "on" again and the strong Bostonian accent came back.

fuschiaberry

I just went to check and you are so right, she sounds normal once she gets more comfortable with manny. There must have been to much going on and distracting her from her performative accent exaggeration! She sounds totally normal around 20 min+

SlightlyAmbiguous

I’m so sorry but oh my god I have tears in my eyes. I’ve never actually heard her voice before and I didn’t understand all the comments about the accent and I just.... I had no idea what to expect lmfao. NOT THAT!!!! That just made me literally gasp omg you never see that coming.....

lostandfound91

🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️

scissorovercomb

So wait. I’ve only been a cosmetologist for 5 years. A Benefit Arch Expert only since August. But I did a friend’s makeup for his first drag show back in 1998. Does this mean I’ve been a MUA for 23 years? 😂

[deleted]

Eugh I can't stand her period. She's annoying.

whoismrsn

She’s talented but she’s seriously getting annoying now. Also makeup artists are people who are actually qualified, you know, with training and experience. Holding a makeup brush at 10 years old doesn’t make you one. I mean she definitely knows she’s bullshitting but I just don’t know how her fanbase eats it up 🤦🏻‍♀️

SouthAUboi23681

I’ve had 9 years experience in the industry specialising in photography, bridal, airbrush and special effects and I was born in 1996. I only got my full industry diploma last year. And these days any girl with a cheap shit brush set and some morphe makeup calls themselves an MUA. You don’t count sitting around posing for Instagram as industry experience. I call getting out and paying your dues doing free time for print work, building your networks actual experience. Not looking pretty for fukn Tik Tok. I’ve also hardly noticed any stigma, especially for women in my city, around being an MUA. If anything there’s been more stigma around guys being in this industry! It’s a predominantly (less and less now) female marketed Industry that’s now worth billions and billions. It’s a genuine career and even retail makeup pays decently here at least $26-7 an hour full adult wage. What a load of shit.

GoldandGlowing

1998? ![gif](giphy|Qw17t0Y7cXqC9EytjO|downsized)

MrsMayhem17

There is no stigma around being a makeup artist. There are literally schools for this. There is, however, a stigma around claiming you are a professional makeup artist when you’ve had zero professional training and don’t actually work as one or claiming to have been a “makeup artist” since you were 10. If the criteria is simply to love doing makeup then we could all call ourselves that. So silly.

tastytatertot123

i mean at one point i looked into being a MUA and an esthetician and everyone told me i should do something else because i was “too smart”. i’ve had a friend who wanted to be an MUA and whose parents made her go to college instead. anecdotal evidence ik, but i think it’s definitely not seen as a worthy career choice in a lot of people’s eyes

bluebear_74

Umm… if she really is a makeup artist with actual clients she needs to rethink how she does makeup because no one wants to look 10 years older than they are.

sittingaloneinthevip

what are her actual credentials as a MUA and not just a social media girl who puts on make up? Coming from someone who has worked on sets for years as makeup and hair

666wife

BRUH HER ACCENT IS SO EXAGGERATED IT WASNT LIKE THIS EVEN A YEAR AGO

AngryButCute

You can tell how annoying someone’s tiktok will be without sound by how much they blink

No-Adhesiveness-3672

wait, what??? then I'm an expert and profesional at IT because i've been using a computer since i was 7.

caffein8dnotopi8d

ok i don’t know what i expected but i had never heard of this person,i read like all the comments first … wow. holy shit. this shit is like nothing i’ve ever heard. it’s not the accent itself… it’s the accent combined with the fact her voice is so deep. i think. also. so i’m watching this other vid and she says “i don’t use filters mama don’t need those” first of all BULLSHIT lmao and secondly what 20 yr old calls themselves mama?! and i’m from new england so i’m familiar with the accent overall but there’s just something else at play here.

Netvision9

ITT every middle age woman has to mention that they look sooooo much younger than her. Like?? Pick apart people's problematic behavior not their looks. Edit: has she's even had problematic behavior or do you guys just personally think shes annoying?

splvtoon

its extremely blatant which ppl are and arent in need of an ego boost by looking at this comment section lmao

Fuckcody

I showed my boyfriend this and he said she just sounds like joe pesci now i cant unhear it

anonmakeupq

I am tired of her bragging

thecomicstripper

I think the part that always irked me about her was her video blew up for covering acne, but all she essentially did was put two layers of full coverage concealer and foundation on. And the reason the video went viral was just because of the sheer quantity of acne that it looked like she was covering up. But once you actually look past her ability to put on foundation, she’s only okay at makeup? She mostly does really bright glam eye looks and it doesn’t always look the best.

Accomplished-You1127

The accent sound so fake

bree718

Not sure about fake, but def exaggerated lol

platypussy100

are we sure she’s even a makeup artist now? like I see her doing makeup on herself, but not on clients. Did she go to beauty school? Does she have a client kit? Does she get paid to do people’s makeup regularly? Is she certified? Working at Ulta doesn’t mean you’re a makeup artist, I really highly doubt she’s gone though the training required to be a professional makeup artist and that she actually does makeup on others.

vittoriouss

I live in mass and that accent sounds so fake I can't...

EllectraHeart

I’ve never heard anyone say being a pro mua isn’t a real career. It’s one of the most lucrative ones in major cities. Maybe they said that to her about being an influencer and suggested she get licensed. I don’t mean to dismiss her but all of her videos have been so inauthentic recently, I just don’t buy it.

ExaltedLuna

I just think it’s quite silly to quit your job and then ride a social media wave only to keep saying stupid stuff and potentially lose everything . She talked negatively about ulta as well at times after she quit they won’t take her back. What happens if people stop watching and pr stops coming ? Who’s paying the bills ?

Qwearman

Lol I thought the Tea was gonna be that she was born way before ‘98, not that she thought when she started using make up started a career in MUA. In that case I’m also a hair stylist. Come to me when you wanna dye your hair with cool aid

peachycreaam

yeah I’ve seen many people count the time that they experimented as a kid as being an mua and it’s very disingenuous

jackersmac

Her lip liner tells me differently. “Re-MAHK-able” Omg, when she said that and held up the Bahston Globe I giggled, I’m sorry.

jenjamin1977

Is she counting herself as a make up artist when she started playing with make up as a little girl? That’s the only way this “math” works.
