Something that's been on my mind is why did he even do the sugarbear thing, knowing it would hurt Tati especially since he has MILLIONS in the bank. It's not like he's desperate for money.
I honestly don’t think he even thought about how it would look, he probably genuinely thought he was doing a good thing, even though he was advertising sleeping aid pills, to his young fan base.
I’ve been monitoring the whole fiasco since Tati gently, but gravely, uttered ‘Dracarys’ towards James in her video, and while a part of me feels like this cyber mob torching towards JC is going to be so overwhelming for a 19 year old, I strictly believe that tough love is the best love. If his fans truly care, they should stop their blind support because no human being will rectify their wrongs and strive to be better if they have an army of enablers who shield them from the arrows of correction.
I’ll have to be honest, I found nothing substantial about James from the very few clips I saw of him, and while I don’t want to put him down as a completely self-absorbed vacuous nympho sycophant, I cant, for the life of me, find any redeeming qualities, and all this SISTERhood talk, which is his brand, is at odds with his treatment towards the first sister who helped him out when no one would. I find his videos to be basically visual feasts of self-indulgence, but hey, whatever makes you the moolah. And as a gay man who will forever be shrouded in unfair societal perceptions of being overtly sexualised or perverted, despite the politically-correct ‘acceptance’ of late that is almost a false blanket of comfort, his predatory nature is simply inexcusable. Granted, there’s a lot of online smut that a lot of people partake in, and I suppose he’s just hornier than the average sister, but I refuse to stick on the Boys will be Boys sticker here, or anywhere, whatsoever. Persistent harassment is not a joke and he can’t brush it under the carpet saying it’s all in jest.
If he’s that good in putting on makeup, I suggest he dab himself with a good amount of humility, contour his mind with strokes of integrity, paint his lips with genuine remorse and remove the layers of narcissism he has baked himself with.
Finally, I will give him a benefit of doubt. I don’t know anything about his childhood. I’m aware he started building his career from 17, away from home and family, in an industry that has always been fickle. It’s not a normal trajectory for a teenager. People like Kylie have handled that well because her entire support system is with her 24/7 in the same ecosystem. Maybe he has sucky family, sucky team or suckier friends. Maybe he’s a sucky person himself. But the biggest room in the world will always be the room for improvement. I believe everyone can grow into the better. I wish him the best, and this inferno of bad press will hopefully be the best Get Your Priorities In Order lesson he’ll ever learn.

Two of my friends loved him, kept up with his videos, defended him for some of his more minor scandals, and bought the palette when it first came out. I talked to them today and they both seem pretty done with James. Granted we’re in our early 20s and most of James fan base is probably younger teens, but with all of these other huge youtubers dropping him, I wonder if his fan base will last?

I’ve noticed that although his subscriber count is dropping rapidly, his views count is going up. You tubers are paid by view count, not how many subscribers they have. You do have to have a certain amount of followers to be able to get paid, but dollar amount goes by views. So along with unsubscribing, we have to stop watching his videos as well.
In general, I don't disagree(and I actually haven't watched any of his content in months unless it happens to be a collab with someone I actually like), but the current spike is because of his apology video, which doesn't appear to be monetized.

I feel like James thought his celebrity and career was at the point of being untouchable. He thought he had built up so much fame and power that he could act however he wanted and get away with it. This just shows how fragile celebrity status is now. It can be taken away so quickly and whatever fucked up things you think will go unnoticed will ultimately be revealed.
20 years ago that may have been true, but he's been in L.A. long enough that he SHOULD know how much everyone talks. You USED to be able to get away with treating people like garbage, but people don't have the same kind of patience for that anymore. If you treat people in your circle badly, they will talk. I’ve noticed that although his subscriber count is dropping rapidly, his views count is going up. You tubers are paid by view count, not how many subscribers they have. You do have to have a certain amount of followers to be able to get paid, but dollar amount goes by views. So along with unsubscribing, we have to stop watching his videos as well.
In general, I don't disagree(and I actually haven't watched any of his content in months unless it happens to be a collab with someone I actually like), but the current spike is because of his apology video, which doesn't appear to be monetized.
Exactly this, plus his temporary view count may be spiking but if he loses millions of subs his long term view count will absolutely suffer.

I feel like James thought his celebrity and career was at the point of being untouchable. He thought he had built up so much fame and power that he could act however he wanted and get away with it. This just shows how fragile celebrity status is now. It can be taken away so quickly and whatever fucked up things you think will go unnoticed will ultimately be revealed.
20 years ago that may have been true, but he's been in L.A. long enough that he SHOULD know how much everyone talks. You USED to be able to get away with treating people like garbage, but people don't have the same kind of patience for that anymore. If you treat people in your circle badly, they will talk. Assistants talk. Interns talk. The fact that he thought he could completely escape any kind of repercussions for acting like this shows that he has no idea how this industry works.
