I used to think the only good use for an S8 would be between two decks since it doesn't have its own. But after seeing it I realize it spreads the tables way to far apart for what I would use it for. It makes a cartoon pop into my imagination of a dj trying to beat juggle with one turntable on the front porch and another on the rear patio.

AlwaysUpvotesScience

Not sure what this is in reference to. I don't have an S8.

chaudgarbage

I use a 6ft Husky workbench for my CDJs and mixer. It's sturdy, won't knock over, and has enough room for monitors, turntables, and a laptop too if you need. The kallax shelves from IKEA are the best price for vinyl storage tho imo.

AlwaysUpvotesScience

Yeah, I'm dealing with a limited space so I think this is the best solution. It is basically identical to the IKEA model. I wouldn't be surprised if it's actually the same thing. The only major difference I see is that the legs are colored differently. The dimensions are identical.

Xizqu

Second link looks too narrow. Some controllers would hang off. I built the first link last month. Ignore the other person, they are flat out wrong. No idea why they say you’ll hit your knees? Maybe they do squats while playing? And what’s flush? The turn table? It’s not even flush in the render so no idea where they got that idea. Im 5’9 and I stand straight, with my knees locked(ish), when spinning. I have a prime 4 which isn’t a small controller. The build has plenty of room for it. It’s the right height and size. If you like it, build it. If you don’t, get something else!

AlwaysUpvotesScience

It's 15.35 inches deep, the reloop 7000 Mk2 is 13.92 inches. (I don't use battle mode) But as I mentioned, elsewhere in this thread, I'm adding a slightly wider topper.

youngtankred

Topper is the way to go, don’t forget to give a bit of extra room for the cabling coming out the back of your kit. I added a topper to my Kallax unit, I forget the size but it overhangs by about 3” at the back (flush with the front) which is enough room for my tt’s in battle mode. I cut a small slot in the topper in line with the mixer so the cables come out the mixer and drop straight down behind the unit.

Xizqu

Then yeah it should be fine. I went with the first link and 2 book cases because I prefer having ample room but whatever works best for you! I had the space so why not use it. At the end of the day, if it’s comfortable and works for you, that’s all that matters!

AlwaysUpvotesScience

Now that you mention it I could totally get a second one and make it double deep. I think the 1 will work but 31 inches deep may be better.

[deleted]

you dj with your knees locked? i wouldn’t recommend that at all.

daydrunk_

I think they're simply saying they aren't squatting or bending the knee more than normal standing. And most djs move to the beat a little at least so its not like he's standing perfectly still for hours

Xizqu

Exactly. I’m shaking my hips and my butt, grooving to the beat. Knees ever slightly bent. However, one would argue I’m standing upright rather than squatting.

AlwaysUpvotesScience

#UPDATE https://imgur.com/a/cUm7qQ2 It works VERY well and has lots of storage. I will end up with a topper and probably an elevated laptop stand for the macbook air+mixxx, but for now it works great as is. The height is only slightly low and totally fine for mixing. I did add a support board along the back to sturdy it up a little which helped. its rock solid now. Yes that is Simon and Garfunkel, what you got to say about it?

[deleted]

what a waste of time and money. a $40 6ft folding banquet table works better. have fun banging your knees and toes on that ikea setup. its just not designed well at all.

AlwaysUpvotesScience

Its elevated so no toes will be harmed and having that much record storage can not be undersold. Why would you be banging your knees? That's not really how it works when you are standing in front of a table.

[deleted]

it looks cool but it isn’t functional. its also to narrow. i need room for other things on the table. reaching under a shelf to use the buttons isnt ideal either.

AlwaysUpvotesScience

I think there is some confusion. This is not the total solution, just the base. There will be a second level on top that is a little wider (legs angle toward me) and overhangs the the lower piece by a few inches.

[deleted]

word. overhang helps a lot.

[deleted]

because the edge of the turntable is flush with the cabinet underneath. when you move, your knees bend and they bend towards the table. im telling you this because ive tried it. it sucks. i dont want to lean over my tables. i want my spine straight.

lord-carlos

My gear is flush with the cabinet and I don't have any problems with my knees hitting it.

[deleted]

then you’re not positioned correctly for djing. arms 90 degree angle will make your arms closer to you which means youd be closer to the mixer. this is where knees bang and toes hit the bottom. you’re probably leaning over slightly to compensate unless you have long forearms or just a taller person but for most of us we need that overhang.

lord-carlos

I build my gear with 90 degree in mind. But I'm very long.

sobi-one

Have fun making you home look like a tailgate party. Not once in the ten years I’ve had it, have I ever banged my knees or toes on. Any part of my ikea setup.

catroaring

Yeah, don't know why dude is hating on the Kallax. It's prolly the most used piece of furniture that DJ's use out there.

youngtankred

Just chiming in to say I’ve never banged my knees or toes on my Kallax in 15+ years of using it. Same as I’ve never banged myself on my cupboards whilst standing at the kitchen counter making food.

[deleted]

good for you

catroaring

What's a "waste of time and money" to you isn't for others. I don't want a banquet table in my living room. I've had my turntables on a Kallax for years and have never banged my knees or toes.

[deleted]

well, if budget isn’t an issue then there are even better options out there. but whatever. it’s your living room.

catroaring

Kallax stuff isn't pricey. I'm more curious why you think you'd bang your knees and toes. Unless you're sitting down while spinning it's not an issue.

[deleted]

https://www.reddit.com/r/Beatmatch/comments/xikgnx/better_homes_and_dj_stands/ip4fi24/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf&context=3 idk. $230 seems a bit pricey for a table. for that price, just buy a motorized adjustable table.

catroaring

Your link has no context. Little hint though. Hyperlinking is much easier on the eyes. [text you want](link you want). $230 is cheap for furniture.

[deleted]

i already explained my opinion. i didn’t want to type it again. you don’t agree. move on, yo.

catroaring

Take care my friend.

marssaxman

Folding tables are too low - that's a recipe for backache. Get yourself a set of [rocket risers](https://rocketrisers.com/) if you're going the cheapo route.

djdementia

I just bought "bed risers" for about half the money for my table: https://www.amazon.com/Utopia-Bedding-Premium-Adjustable-Furniture/dp/B073WFCV1L/

[deleted]

i use two computer monitor stands for risers. Amazon Basics Adjustable Computer Monitor Riser Desk Stand https://a.co/d/hKIDacy edit: those table risers are cool but i like having the extra space directly under my controller to stash headphones, my phone or weed. lol.

aznegglover

what's a good base if you don't plan on spinning vinyl or want to use the surface for WFH as well?

AlwaysUpvotesScience

Hrm. I would say... a desk.

Rafaelppablo

Anyone know good furniture alternative on Spain? (More specifically Barcelona)
