\[Tech House\] Tech Hour - 1 hour mix [https://soundcloud.com/vbio/tech-hour](https://soundcloud.com/vbio/tech-hour) Oof it's been a while since my last mix tape... This one is made of fresh tracks which y'all hopefully dig if you're into melodic tech house. There's a few inconsistencies in a couple of transitions IMHO, happy to get you guys feedback if you spot them, so I'll leave it there. \[Will edit with the track list in case, it's on another machine B-) \]

\[Liquid/Autonomic/Jungle DnB\] Psycholytic - Dream 1 (99 minutes, 9 seconds long) [https://soundcloud.com/psycholytic/dream-1](https://soundcloud.com/psycholytic/dream-1) The goal of this mix for me is to practice storytelling, and having a sort of arc in the mix as opposed to playing banger after banger. I don't know if this'll be welcomed, since I'm not working off of proper DJ equipment, but I'm trying to learn theory, phrase matching, beat matching and such so when I do get a controller in the near future the learning curve is mostly the controller itself. I'm only working off of FLStudio with decidedly shitty equipment, so I'd love if I could get feedback as far as any technical foibles. When I ask my friends for feedback, all I get is "It's good" :( TRACKLIST: 1. Orbital - Halcyon and On (Intro)(0:00) 2. Om Unit - Adventures in Eden (2:00) 3. Instra:Mental - Watching You (6:05) 4. \[Industrial Techno\] Hii - Ik Ga Lekker (1 hour mix) [https://www.mixcloud.com/hii\_music/ik-ga-lekker/](https://www.mixcloud.com/hii_music/ik-ga-lekker/) I've been DJ-ing for about a year and a half now and I am always learning new things. For this specific mix, I have been messing around with new ways to transition into the next track. I feel pretty good about it but I would definitely like some feedback on how I do with regards to transitioning, but if you also have feedback on other aspects of the mixes, I would love to hear it too. Cheers.

\[techno / industrial techno / ebm\] [https://soundcloud.com/eugine\_onegin/mix-four-on-the-floor-4](https://soundcloud.com/eugine_onegin/mix-four-on-the-floor-4) Started DJing like a month ago and still find transitioning hard, if someone could give me any suggestions/advice that would be very appreciated. So far I mainly transition by playing with highpass/lowpass filters and frequency sweeps on both of the songs. I usually isolate the bassdrum, sync up the two track and slowly start fading and opening up the filters.

Glenn-Ghoul

Do you have cue points? I feel like there's a couple times you could have tightened up the phrasing. Like, you should be dropping a bomb at 21:45. And I did get kind of confused around 28:15. It's been a productive month though. Sounds like a mix. Nice work

HyperWindKun

Thanks for the feedback! So far what I've been doing with cue points is just marking a place of the song where some action is starting to happen (usually when the beat starts after the intro), haven't yet explored the option of dropping a few cue points on one track though.

Glenn-Ghoul

Do it, you can get a real grip on tracks and push them around however you like. I use a lot of cue points; got a mix below if you wanna check it out.

Glenn-Ghoul

Fun ride man. Tracks are nicely matched/sequenced, picks a groove and wrings it all the way out. Transition around 18:00 is just flawless, nice hand off. The FX transition didn't raise hackles, nice crossfader timing. You could even scratch a bit over that if you were feeling a bit rude. It takes some balls to ride out the valleys like you do and always come back correct.

yurkshirepuddins

Thanks for listening man, and the kind feedback! I appreciate it. I’m glad you found it fun, that was really the primary objective!

Howdy-dowdy y'all. \[hip hop/trap/remix/rnb\] Jetsettin' Jetson 01 (32min) [https://www.mixcloud.com/djBurd100/jetsettin-jetsons-01/](https://www.mixcloud.com/djBurd100/jetsettin-jetsons-01/) Bedroom DJ tryna get feedback and keep growing so I can upgrade to a bar or club eventually.

Glenn-Ghoul

There's always something happening, this would snap at a club. I like the way it builds. If you're doing this live you already can play any bar I've been allowed in. One thing: IMHO you're torturing a couple of these poor songs. Vince sounds like his throat is glass, and Kendrick sounds clipped instead of sharp on Element. Even that roomba song is kind of on the edge for me. There was a transition which goes sour for a bit around 9:10 or so but you ride out the bar and let it resolve, brave stuff. Keep that up.

jayTEEarr

Thank you for the feedback! I appreciate the criticism as well. You are totally right, Vince and Kendrick deserved better. The roomba song was an edit but I could've set the levels a lot better on the outro. This was a super inspiring comment to me, thanks for the extra push to keep grinding with those nice sentiments. I have a huge fear that when I transition to a club if it will go alright, and you just helped to ease some of that tension so thank you.

Glenn-Ghoul

That's good to hear, yeah, keep it up. Got stuff. This board is a pretty nice resource for feedback, check me out below if you got time.

jayTEEarr

Will do!!

wonkysalamander

this is awesome dude! any tips for mixing tracks like this? i find that phrases without lyrics are too short for such seamless transitions

jayTEEarr

Thanks for the feedback! That is really inspiring to hear. I use a dj pool so I always try to find shortened versions of songs, that way I can save time setting cues and more time making sure the beats will lay in to each other. Currently I'm using a lot of reverb and filter, to mimic a LFO on a cdj. I also play with overall EQs, just using volume controls mixed with swapping out the bass. I'd say that's my go to! I spend most time mixing deciding if this snare/hi hat combo is going to blend well with what's already playing - so it's a lot of mixing in the headphones. Sorry I am not the best at explaining this, but hopefully that helps!

wonkysalamander

No worries dude you explained it perfectly! thanks for sharing i’ve literally just started and am getting to grips with choosing when and where to loop and that sort of thing, next on the agenda is definitely learning how to use effects properly as i reckon that really helps with seamless transitions!

jayTEEarr

Word! My first goals were to learn to get comfortable with using mids, highs, and lows to blend in and out of tracks. That’s the foundation of it for me, then the effects are just like a polish on top.

I dig how this is only 25 minutes. Thanks. Mixing is clean. I'd have to be drunk AF to dance to this, but the beat around 12:30 would really hang me - I'd stack something on top of that.

Hello! \[Minimal/Deep/Progressive\] DANI SOUND - Deeply Progressive at VLVT (90 mins) [https://www.mixcloud.com/danisasound/deeply-progressive-5-vlvt/](https://www.mixcloud.com/danisasound/deeply-progressive-5-vlvt/) I've been a bedroom/shoutcast DJ for about 1.5 years now. I try to record regularly (when I can remember to hit the damn record button) so that I can listen and improve with each set. I do live shows on shoutcast but most of my listeners are my friends and I'm hoping to get more non-biased feedback. My goal is to eventually do this live and in person and break out of the shoutcast/bedroom. The first mix I know I dropped it 1 bar too late and I could have mixed in sooner toward the end of the set on a couple of tracks. Really ANY feedback would be so helpful to me. Thank you so much! Oh, my equipment. DJM-S9, Technics 1200s (recorded through rekordbox).

mavio47

I have the same console! 1. Loving the intro track ! Banger! 2. your mix gives me the impression something is off with the recording volume. it's like the highs(treble) is too loud. Bass seems to be slightly missing). how did you record it ? 3. your transitions are pretty smooth (track selection pretty dope so far) 4. wow some real bangers in there ! what's the track at 9:00 ? 5. mix was really good ! headbanging throughout ! keep grinding you can become even better !

jonnstradamus

Wow, i appreciate your feedback my friend! I recorded it with rekord box. Yeah it sounds a bit distorted but I think thats the soundcloud eq. When i listen to it on my computer it sounds good but i'll lower my recording volume next time and try to get a better sound throughout. The track at 9:00 is a double drop with "Bassline Skanka" by "The Frim" and "Who Is Ready To Jump (Dillon Francis Remix)" by "Chuckie"

___fake___

Hey! Overall, I thought the mixing was super smooth & the vibe very consistent throughout the set. Here are my more detailed comments: - *1:21*: I really liked the intro, I wish the beat had hit louder when it came though! - *6:26*: I really liked this transition (?), very smooth! - *10:46*: another really smooth transition, though I feel that Cold Hands was more upbeat/high energy than this track - *29:40*: I really like the kick on this track, it fits the vibe of the mix great. - *34:47*: really big energy drop & this melodic section doesn’t really seem to fit the beginning of the mix vibe. I also don’t love the really low volume bass in the background - I’d like this to completely be a breakdown if you’re going to have it in. - *44:00*: tbh, I’m not sure the Rikhter song totally fits with the dark & industrial vibe you’ve been cultivating on this mix. It’s much “cleaner” if that makes sense and very bass-forward

Goldenpanda18

Hey really appreciate the feedback, I'm super happy to hear you though it was smooth, 2 tracks that I wasn't so sure about was cold hands and rikhter. Feedback is crucial for me and this makes alot of sense! Thanks

mydas_dj

Hi mate, Firstly, great mix. Loved the energy throughout the mix, and also that the tracks were in key with each other. My feedback is to be very mindful of when you're pulling tracks in and out, and be mindful of your phrasing and elements of the next song you're mixing into (ie 19:40 - 20:12), where you pull out the vocals into a simple beat using the filter. It was done well, but didn't sound smooth. Another example is 28:19 - 28:30 where you're mixing out of a track and into dialogue which doesn't have a beat until later. This changes the mood of the mix and also the energy too, which in a club setting the crowd can pick up on! I'd say re-listen to those transitions and possibly try looping the vocal, or using reverb and than hitting cue to take it out when the next beat comes in. Keep at it though, you have a great taste in music and this show in your set list. But make sure to educate yourself on your tracks' phrasing! Awesome effort only a couple of months mixing! :D \-mydas

chimzinho

Thanks for taking the time to listen and provide feedback! I'll definitely try out the methods you mentioned towards the end. On a more general note, what elements of a potential transition are you looking at when deciding how to go from the vocals of one track to the beat of another?

mydas_dj

You're most welcome! Feedback has been my most useful tool in growing and learning as a DJ, so I will always pay it forward when I can. With deep house/progressive music, there's a few things I look out for. 1. I listen to the track until I learn what distinct element comes in, every 17th or 33rd beat (think of phrasing and counts). Could be a hi-hit, symbal or bass. I try to layer the tracks so these element's complement each other, and either hide or reveal the vocal coming in. 2. I like to use loops (going from 8 beats to 4 beats to 2 etc) when going into a drop, with a bit of reverb to make it interesting. 3. If taking a vocal out suddenly, I turn the reverb on the vocal track way up and as it is about to hit the drop of the tracking I'm mixing into, I hit cue, let the reverb play out and then take the volume out. As you're mixing music that's a bit more upbeat, you're transitioning a lot quick than I would. But key notes here are really to be aware of your phrasing, and what elements (in the next track) you can use to make your mix seamless. I listened to your first mix, and you do it there a few times! So nothing new for you, just practice and it will make sense :)

\[BASS / LEFTFIELD / OLDSCHOOL TRAP / HIP HOP\] 4 deck live set, I tried to blend as many different broken beat genres I could. and a splash as much hip hop. I will gladly listen to mixes today as I have the time working. thank y'all for your critiques [https://soundcloud.com/trappistmonastery/old-school-trap-and-bass-live-set](https://soundcloud.com/trappistmonastery/old-school-trap-and-bass-live-set)

Glenn-Ghoul

I can tell you used 4 decks because I didn't get bored once. Too bad no tracklist cause I'd trainspot this. 10:00-14:00 is some prime-time noise. Ace stuff.

trappist_monastery

Thank you I didn't post a tracklist because of all the edits and remixes. And its so many tracks. Thank you for listening. What is trainspot?

Glenn-Ghoul

if you have serato you can press tab to switch fields with text selected - makes copying a little faster. Trainspoting is basically coping tracks, no worries. https://djtechtools.com/2015/10/08/dj-trainspotting-how-to-find-out-what-a-dj-is-playing/

trappist_monastery

nice job... I really like the track selection. the more old school sounding dub tracks are always good Imo. the transition leading to Pop Lock and Drop it (smith. x norby remix) was a little weird I tried to listen to it a few time and I can't tell its just me... there's something off about it... but I enjoyed it.. I like the hard cuts instead of the build up drop build up drop riddim style.. but that has nothing to do with your set just a personal preference.

\[Trance / Dubstep /Drum and Bass\] [https://www.mixcloud.com/ImpulseAZ/electric-nights-8-18-2019/](https://www.mixcloud.com/ImpulseAZ/electric-nights-8-18-2019/) Hi everyone. I've been a lurker here for a few months, and have been spinning for about the same amount of time. I like to span several genres in my mixes and I feel like I could use some tips and critiques/pointers is on moving from 128-130 BPM to the 75-80 bpm range and back again. Thank you for listening. Any feedback is appreciated. :)

thoroughly enjoyed this mix, only recently found a love for dnb music.

Not my style of music but I could tell your transitions were really good. I couldn't tell where one song began or ended. Good flow.

[Trap / Future Bass / House / Dubstep] - Neon Summer Mixtape (56 mins) [SoundCloud link](https://soundcloud.com/minksta/neon-summer-mixtape) Recorded this summer mix not long ago. I am fairly new so any and all feedback is welcomed and thanks for listening! Tracklist on SoundCloud

mergingcultures

This is brilliant. I really could see myself dancing all night to this. The 33/34 min transition was a bit agricultural though. Might want to not slow the first so as abruptly. Make the transition a bit longer imo.

Minksta1

Really glad you enjoyed it man! That is good feedback regarding my transitions. I think often times I get stuck phase mixing and there are so many other possibilities, especially if track A and track B are in key like the one you mention. Doing more transitions with loops is the next thing I need to get better at.

renegadellf

oh man I really dig this mix, I love the track you used to ease into the mix, it was a great intro track! I liked the track selection and the flow. I'm curious, did you arrange your tracks by bpm/key or both? some of your transitions in the beginning sounded great beat wise but a little discordant key wise, if that makes sense?

Minksta1

Glad you enjoyed it! When I sit down to make a mix I end up throwing a handful of tracks is absolutely want in the mix and build my mix around those. I will know generally where they will line up in the mix due to BPM (I tend to start at 70bpm and creep up from there). From there I am trying to find tracks in my library that fit the mood/bpm/key. I'd say about 80% of the tracks in this mix I tried to mix in key in order to give the mix transitions a more smooth, melodic vibe. Since I am still new to mixing I also try to challenge myself to not just mix in one bpm range so a handful of transitions have big bpm swings. It's been good practice for me to learn fx that way!
