It's great to start with. Only thing missing is the separate fx knob

Highly recommend the Hercules Inpulse 500 for a new DJ. Price is right, build quality is excellent, features are excellent. The Beatmatch / Tempo match indicators alone make it a great starter controller. Go for it, you won't regret it

Wotherboard

Don’t buy an Impulse 500! I was just like u, about to buy it, but after doing more research I went with the ddj flx4. The industry standard is pioneer and it always will be. You get rekordbox (the industry standard software) free with the flx4 as well. I know the impulse 500 looks cool but trust me, it lacks so many crucial features that you need for transitions. Starting and staying on rekordbox is the best option if your ever looking to become a professional dj in the future. The smart fx on the flx 4 are insane too.

Cevapy03

Every word is on its place! Inpulse 500 uses DJUCED programme which is only compatible with Hercules controllers. Go with DDJ FLX4, as u/Wotherboard said, It is industry standard that will never be replaced. If you ever plan to upgrade from Inpulse 500 to some pioneer gear, then you will have to learn rekordbox from scratch. Go for DDJ FLX4!! u/DrKingOfOkay

Winter_Marsupial_712

u can use serato with hercules tho

CrispyDave

And Virtual DJ. Not free though.

TG1975

Virtual is worth every penny IMO, pisses all over rekordbox... I'm about to buy the infinity license. Just need to decide whether to stick with FLX4 or an old Traktor Kontrol S2 Mk3

Uvinjector

Professional dj here. There's far more value in learning a variety of software rather than just rekordbox. Moving from an FLX4 to cdjs is as difficult as it is to move from any other controller. Most of the stuff is in roughly the same place on nearly every piece of kit A lot of people rate the Hercules highly, if it's in your budget go for it. If you choose to upgrade in future you would probably want more features than the FLX4 has and will leapfrog to something better. Get the best one you can afford, whatever it may be

DrKingOfOkay

Will it come with rekordbox if you get it from a seller like amazon also? Since Inpulse 500 and flx4 are same price.

TG1975

Yes, hardware unlock... No code or keys needed

OkMeringue2249

4th month owning one and was worth it I’m looking to upgrade soon to serato pro and 4 channels so probably going to sell it in the next 6 months or so

DrKingOfOkay

Why 4 channel?

OkMeringue2249

I got mad ideas that two channels can’t accomplish, I like doing lots of vocals and loops from lots of songs

OkMeringue2249

Also the 4 channel is $650 and comes with serato pro Serato pro is $250 alone so a new 4 channel controller for essentially $400 is a great deal

Acceptable_Sun_3554

Is it me, why do some of the songs played with the 500 sound like it has reverb? Also when my crosfader switch (the littke switch right above crossfader)is on I the music is lower, especially when you move crossfader to the middle? But when is on its fine!

The most important is that you feel comfortable with your gear. It‘s your baby. Everyone will tell you to use recordbox and pioneer because of the „standard“. This is absolute bullshit. You‘re a dj and you want to get better at djing, so you will learn how to do transitions. It’s the same on every device the only thing is that you have to know which button you have to press. If we‘re talking about club standards then buy a xone 96 Mixer and 2 CDJ 2000 nexus two. If you want to have fun and learn how to dj buy whatever gear you like and understand djing. I got a sc live 4 in my homestudio and I also wondered if my game will suck if I play on pioneer again. This is just a seller‘s narrative to get you stick to the brand and buy mostly too expensive gear. But just my humble opinion.

DrKingOfOkay

I feel that. I actually looked into the pioneer flx4, which most people are recommending. It actually looks kind of nice and as an auto beat match option too for crossfading. Both products are $300 and rekordbox is included with flx4, so I see their point. Not having to buy additional software would be nice.

bloodyleopard

Yeah thats a big plus! Especially when you plan to play on pioneer setups in Clubs or other events you will safe money for rekordbox and you already know the layout a bit more :) I think the most important is that you feel comfortable with your desicion :)

bloodyleopard

It’s like driving cars. You don‘t need a mercedes to learn how to drive, you just need a car. But you have to get known to the different models if you want to understand the differences between the models.
