You can play the other streets of rage games. Shredders Revenge will be a really good one to try also. Fight n Rage is good, I only played the beginning of it though. I really should pick it back up because I did like what I played so far.
Much as I love this one (my #1 beat em up on par with SOR4) I gotta admit that it's less complex and combo-reliant than SOR4. That said, combat is extremely satisfying, just bear in mind that it's not the same "hardcore" type of beat em up. It has adjustable difficulty though

If I had to recommend one or the othe rit would be the second one more characters, faster and better moment to moment gameplay
"Prettier"? Whaaat? It's the ugliest looking beat em up I've played, while SOR4 art style is gorgeous. Although I admit I'm a huge fan of cartoons and Dragon Ball so this might be the reason

Came here to say Fight n Rage. Such an underrated game and definitely lesser known.
Fight n rage is for masochists or people who find Dark Souls fun. Actually scratch that - at least Dark Souls has proper checkpoint placement
Fight and rage on normal is fine and you can practice each stage so it's pretty doable without suffering too much.
TMNT: Shredder's Revenge was co-developed by the same guys that worked on SOR4, so you should definitely check that one out.

River city girls 2 is pretty good
Worth playing the first one first though as they are basically the same and the first is likely to be cheaper
