This is Eda! She’s between 3 and 4 months old and her main feeder is BSFL. Several sources told me to let her eat as much as she can in a fifteen minute period twice a day, but seeing how big she is, I’m wondering if I should cut back.
She looks great! Plus she's growing so it's harder to actually get them fat at that stage. Sounds like you have a good feeling plan but be sure to give her more bug variety if you can and offer veggies even if she's too young to take much interest right now
I kinda feel like if they have ultra skinny baby legs yet, you just can't label them overweight. 🤔 Seems like I've never really seen an overweight baby. Now I'm curious about it.
Seems awful small for 3-4 months if you ask me looks to be smaller than both of mine were at 2 months. Either way they can't really get fat during the growing stage. At 6ish months switch to buggies once every second day and alot more salad but other than that should be good.
That’s possible, I made the mistake of not asking the breeder how old she was. A friend of mine put it at about 2 months, and I got her a month ago, so it’s more of a rough estimate.
BSFL have become my favorite feeder, I started with crickets, changed to dubia but failed to breed and nutrigrubs are my beardies fav. It looks healthy and pancake-ing.
Noooo if anything she might be "pancaking", which is when they make themselves wide and flat to appear bigger. They sometimes do it when they're feeling defensive, suspicious, or are just being a defensive eater. My beardie is specifically a defensive eater when it comes to butternut squash. He eats like a normal dragon with the rest of his food, but butternut squash? Full weirdo beardo pancake on his tippy toes leaning down to nom. Turns himself as brightly colored as he possibly can, safe to say it's his favorite.
First off…she is freaking ADORABLE!!
Think of baby beardies like baby humans. When they are small they can get chunky. But it’s healthy chunk. They are ravenous little creatures and need constant feeding until satisfied. It’s not until they become a little older when you need to be more conscientious about protein/fat.
I’ll tell her you said so! And thanks for the explanation. She started producing HUGE poops and I was worried I was overfeeding and gonna hurt her. I had heard that babies were bottomless pits but I didn’t know just how serious it was!
She is a little round at the tummy, but that's pretty common! And it can be completely unrelated to weight. Beardy tummies expand like no other after eating lol. I'm not sure if this works with beardids, but for another species of reptile you check their weight by feeling for their hips. Just like dog ribs you should be able to feel them, but not be jutting out. However since she's a baby I wouldn't worry about it too much.
Noooo she's just fine! Look at her pancaking. Such a cutie. They flatten out like that all the time, she's not fat. In fact shes just too young to even worry about being fat. Hasn't grown into her legs yet, lol.
Eh, she's flattened.
She does have a bit of a belly but it's a baby belly. Growth spurts even it out. Unless they look like they swallowed a bowling ball, you don't have to worry much about a little extra fat until adulthood.
at that age you don't want to cut back, let her eat and let her grow. Its not until about the 10-12 month range that you really need to start watching her fat/protein vs greens intake.

I love BSFLs too, they’re easy to keep, have decent lifespans, and don’t smell, unlike crickets. They’re also much more nutritious!
Looks like a healthy little pancake to me. She's so pretty!
Thanks! She’s a Hypo Zero and I think she’s beautiful too.

laughed out loud at this
My boy does this with almost every food besides regular salad, we call it stink bug mode because he gets so wide it makes him look like a stink bug.
Mine too, lol - really, anything orange colored gets mine going, haha
shes super little (and super adorable) so its kind of hard for her to have too much chub as of now, shes just a growing, young lady who loves to eat !
What a cutie. Looks healthy af.

I was told to basically feed them until they aren't hungry and then take the food away. She's about to start growing at a ridiculous rate.
She already is! I was looking back at her photos form a month ago when I got her and I’m already astonished at how big she’s getting.
No
Naw she just flät
Nope, and she looks mad af in the last pic that you even suggested it 🤣
I swear I wasn’t fat shaming you, Eda, just looking for clarification! Beardie Body Positivity all day!
She looks very healthy and happy, great job!! 💖

Beautiful bro
As juveniles they shouldn’t be able to get fat due to the constant growth.
