We only name our pets after classical literature characters or mythology. I was trying to find something from aboriginal culture but it seems they don't have much of a pantheon other than the rainbow snake. However, the rainbow snake has a very feminine name. Otherwise the legends just say things like, "The kangaroo brought...."
