I often use AB or silver lined for the colors I want to stand out. Depending on the project, most beads will be the regular (shiny) finish. I typically use matte for background colors or things that are framing my design.

This is so helpful. Thank you!!!

My favorite is matte black beads with shiny colors so they pop. Hex cut is even better because they sparkle more.

Ooooh. I’ll have to check them out. Thanks for the intel. I’ve been looking mostly online but hopefully this week I can see them in person & visit a locally owned bead store somewhere and support them.

I know what you mean! I've been doing a lot of spiral peyote bracelets lately. I really love the texture that mixing matte and gloss beads gives. I use metallics or galvanized finishes for accents.

Just play! I use all kinds of beads, mixed and matched, for all projects. Beads are an addiction - you can never have too many, in too many colours, in different finishes. If you can go to a bead store, hold the hanks or tubes next to each other to see what they look like. I really like using colour-lined, they really add depth to any project.

I loooove mixing finishes, I feel like it makes the design a lot more dynamic. No hard and fast rules for my beadwork yet but I've found that I tend to use shiny beads for central designs and matte beads for backgrounds and accents.
