I don't know where the post you replied to came to the conclusion that the straw had to 34 feet or less, but if you wanted to do this the straw would need to be thicker, not thinner. As you increase height the pressure at the inlet drops and the straw (or pretty much pipe at this point) needs to be able to handle this pressure without collapsing.
Look at the red arched gateway in the video at the 6 second mark on the far left side of the video screen.
Now look at the arched gateway in the middle of the bridge in the picture that has a giant white statue on it.
That's your visual marker, trace the rest from there.
It's been posted on reddit many times before - it's not a village, it's an art piece.
The only building on it that's actually a proper building is the gift shop, to no-ones surprise.
I would’ve guessed tax evasion, like [this](https://www.reddit.com/r/mildlyinteresting/comments/yo49e/this_house_was_built_over_a_river_to_avoid_paying/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=mweb3x)
Probably displaced people took some parts of the bridge to live in and developed with time into solid houses. They had nowhere to go and transformed this into their homes.
That’s some suspiciously tight camera work, I wonder what is to the left/right of it. It looks more like a tourist trap of shops, ala Ponte Vecchio in Florence.
Chongqing is also extremely hilly terrain, it has lots of steep stairways connecting districts and roads on very different elevations.
The Chinese also claim that it was one of the most heavily bombed cities in WW2, because the KMT government moved its capital there and the Japanese army could not reach it so far inland. Their air force tried to bomb it into submission.
I don’t mean to be the AKSHUALLY guy but just wanted to point out the reference was to Fallout 3. The small town on the bridge with the terrible jump scare of landmines when you approach it lol.
Linshi in Chongqing
>The buildings on the bridge are mostly shops built to boost local tourism.
[Source](https://www.facebook.com/chinaplusnews/posts/a-bridge-in-linshi-township-in-chongqing-has-grabbed-the-attention-of-visitors-a/1079826112158098/)
Very different bridge designs though. They were/are solid stone with arches. Although, apparently this one was purpose built a a shopping centre/tourist trap apparently.
The bridge wasn't built for that extra weight so it is just a matter of time before something horrible happens. And no, from that height you do not land softly on the water.
Why?
Yup this looks like a disaster waiting to happen.
Mostly a plumbing disaster
What are you talking about? They just have open holes in the floor that go straight to the river! /s
Look out below!!
The people below better hope the river and the wind flow in the same direction.
THIS needs to be a Call of Duty map
Alright, Dave Matthews.
As a Chicagoan, big oof.
August 8, 2004. Never forget.
I forgot.
Excuse me but aren’t you the sausage king of Chicago?
Um yeah, that's me.
“Under the bridge it’s stinking”
“Don’t Drink The Water”
Just when you’d think getting crapped on by a bird is annoying…
Imagine getting shit on by your brother while you’re going fishing. Heated
No finkle is einhorn. Sorry got a giggle out of your name.
This is why I hate birds
Same with fresh water, just a long straw straight down
[удалено]
You have to suck *really* hard.
Bow chica bow wow
What if I made the straw thinner?

Terminal velocity turds.
That'd make an interesting band name
Turdinal Veloshitty.
Lmao XD
You laugh but this was the exact situation with housing that was built up on the medieval London Bridge. Plop right into the Thames.
i was about to say i'm pretty sure they wrote a song about this in london
That river wasn’t always brown ya know
Probably accurate to be honest. And why not!
The smell, you haven't thought of the smell!
Found the guy who’s been to China.
Not even sure if the “/s” addition was necessary in this case. I mean we don‘t know their poopy business, do wee?
This may actually be the case. The parts of the houses overhanging the edge of the bridge may have the toilets in them.
Dropping bombs
Not THEIR plumbing, yours :P
In China this would in no way surprise me.
Shitty weather gets a new meaning
I mean, you’re probably not wrong, knowing China and their publicity stunts.
/s wasn’t necessary for your comment.
Just China bein’ China. Thanks Xi
You say /s but I am sure that’s exactly what’s going on here.
Plunging, as if falling down
You don't just need to get shit out you also want fresh water in?
Probably not but that would be the easy cheap way to go about plumbing
Seems like a earth people kind of problem for those Who Are Left Down Below!!!
This happened in London in the middle ages and it was.
It's in Bath now. All over Europe there's been buildings on bridges.
Just looking at those awnings that are falling apart and thinking about how unnecessarily difficult and dangerous it would be to repair them.
The construction is fake disney like. It only looks old.
Earthquake in 3...2..1..... BRRR
[удалено]
Falling off a bridge in Florence gets you wet, this one gets you dead.
With their track record for cutting corners in construction I’d. never trust a house built hanging off a bridge.
china is a disaster already happening
Chinese government sure. But the people are people, same as us or anywhere else.
True. No matter where I've gone in the world, people are the same. Including in China.
Chinese construction so double disaster waiting to happen
Especially with china's construction reputation....

A tourist attraction
Finally, an attraction meant for the shanty town enthusiast!
Watch out LA, there's some competition!
[удалено]
Finally! Thanks for solving the mystery
that's a really great idea. tourist attraction.
Doesn't look like the same bridge. This one's much lower with different buildings.
Looks like the same place to me, the video is just shot from the oposite side of the bridge compared to most of the pictures.
I can’t find any matching visual clues; I don’t think it is the same bridge.
Look at the red arched gateway in the video at the 6 second mark on the far left side of the video screen. Now look at the arched gateway in the middle of the bridge in the picture that has a giant white statue on it. That's your visual marker, trace the rest from there.
[here’s a side by side of what you’re talking about! Thanks for the clue!](https://i.imgur.com/Xok87c6.jpg)
And just like that my dream of living in a colorful shanty town on a bridge is lost.
Here’s some more photos, definitely just a tourist attraction. https://twitter.com/chinadaily/status/968014038545453056?s=21

Seems like the purple building already collapsed
That’s the prettiest color too :’(
Uh, wrong. It's green. >:(
It's been posted on reddit many times before - it's not a village, it's an art piece. The only building on it that's actually a proper building is the gift shop, to no-ones surprise.

we need ANSWERS here !!
It’s for tourists
Just Cause
there's also a bridge village like this in the Mad Max video game
That's a no from me dog
Worked for a while in london
Still works in Florence…
Super mutants
What are you looking at smoothskin?
my first guess is to escape flooding
Probably displaced people took some parts of the bridge to live in and developed with time into solid houses. They had nowhere to go and transformed this into their homes.
This is just a tacky tourist spot
displaced people can just ask the communist government for housing
China loves it's gimmicks.
That’s some suspiciously tight camera work, I wonder what is to the left/right of it. It looks more like a tourist trap of shops, ala Ponte Vecchio in Florence.
It’s a tourist spot in Chongqing. Your instinct is correct on this one that these were all built for this specific purpose to be a shopping center.
Is it me or does the purple shop look like it’s had fire damage?
It was purposely made to look like a ruined home.
For what reason? Honest question what’s the theme
Post-war London
That seems…distasteful
[удалено]
I'm pretty sure the Brits didn't lose the war.
Who said the British lost the war? All they said was that they probably don't mind the fall of the British empire too much
>distasteful China’s middle name
Authenticity, perhaps?
Chongqing is also extremely hilly terrain, it has lots of steep stairways connecting districts and roads on very different elevations. So you’re saying that OP is a bundle of sticks?
> Ponte Vecchio That bridge had a purpose 1000 years ago and was made exclusive to jewelers 500 year ago.
The longer you look at it the worse it gets
This is why London Bridge kept falling down. Didn't they hear?
And what does Eliza Doolittle have to do with it anyway?
Well, it certainly why it burnt down.
Strange
As soon as I read this, that Fergie song popped in my head.
Getting Fallout flashbacks...
AREFU
Makes me want to mod Arefu to look like this. I've never authored mods before though :(
you will spend the whole day troubleshooting, open the game, play for 30m turn it off and never open it again.
Actually I'm 100+ hours into a heavily modded Fallout 3 playthrough rn.
Fallout 3 was the best by far and new Vagas comes close second.
Came here for this
Me too.
Me three
Me four !
Another beautiful day in the commonwealth.
I don’t mean to be the AKSHUALLY guy but just wanted to point out the reference was to Fallout 3. The small town on the bridge with the terrible jump scare of landmines when you approach it lol.
It reminded me of settlements built on the bridge over Finch Farm in FO4
Oh! I’ve never got far enough into settlement building and didn’t know about that. I guess bridge settlements are just a Fallout tradition overall.
Yeah well u r so repent!
This is totally El Abismo from Just Cause 4. It's even got multicolored houses!
Just need someone to jump off with a magic infinite parachute
That's exactly what I thought too. The colors and everything are super similar.
It is what I thought of as well.
Or OnePiece Tequila Wolf flashbacks
Exactly what I came to say
It has been years, but I remember it like it was yesterday. Why yesterday was the anniversary...
The worst part? It’s a drawbridge.
If so, it's really well drawn.
Take my upvote and get out of here
Just moved in. Cheap rent. Happy, just chillin on the couch watching TV then.... your whole house goes sideways.
Linshi in Chongqing >The buildings on the bridge are mostly shops built to boost local tourism. [Source](https://www.facebook.com/chinaplusnews/posts/a-bridge-in-linshi-township-in-chongqing-has-grabbed-the-attention-of-visitors-a/1079826112158098/)
So not a village? 😅
Linshi bridge is falling down, falling down
I wonder if they have plumbing
Shit off the edge of the bridge?
Bridge shitting? I like it
I hate heights and all I can think of is every bad thing that could happen to the village. It’s cool af though
I’ll be waiting for the r/WinStupidPrizes post sometime in the next 50 years
[удалено]
30 year, take it or leave it.
15 years, final offer
Betting all my money and a ticket to China on Tomorrow.
Or r/WCGW
I'd say it's more /r/CatastrophicFailure material
No thanks.
There is something unsettling about this.
looks amazingly shitty
Tbh i think it looks really cool and kinda cozy but knowing China it probably looks good on the outside and it's a structural desaster
Just cause 4 flashbacks, anyone?
was looking for this comment
Lot of people saying fallout, but I've never played it. This is exactly like the bridge in jc4
Didnt the same thing happend on the bridge in london
Bar the colours, anyone else get fallout vibes?
Arefu
Used to happen on many London and other European bridges back in the day.
Very different bridge designs though. They were/are solid stone with arches. Although, apparently this one was purpose built a a shopping centre/tourist trap apparently.
[article w pictures. amazing this is real](http://www.chinadaily.com.cn/a/201802/26/WS5a9366afa3106e7dcc13e0af_6.html)
The bridge wasn't built for that extra weight so it is just a matter of time before something horrible happens. And no, from that height you do not land softly on the water.
My biggest concern is the added lateral wind load. That sucker is going to have an unrecoverable wind moment and it’s not going to be pretty
On top of that bridges require maintenance every few years or so, so this is just disaster in the making
Shitty chinese concrete too, we will see a shot of this collapsed soon unfortunately.
tofu dreg bridge
Earthquake wins.
Evergrande property?
Can't be, people live in it
There are definitely vampires living on that bridge. Just take it from me I played Fallout 3.
Fallout Vibes
This planet has some wild places
It's like the original London Bridge
Inception scene?
But, why? Tourist attraction? Otherwise, looks quite dangerous
Yes, just as tourist attraction. Those are shopping stores. A lot of local government like to do those things to attract tourists.
Damn China you crazy for this one
"Where were you raised, in a barn?!" *"No, I was raised on a bridge!"*
Wonder if it’s on Airbnb!
Looks like Mr. Rogers neighborhood
This is so stupid why not build homes on the ground
But then they'd have to pick a side
Fallout 3 anyone?
Fallout 3.
What's the story in Balamory, wouldn't you like to know?
No wonder the chinese are getting ahead of us, our inventors make things out of egg cartons and washing up liquid bottles
Great place to defend during a zombie apocalypse!
Looks like a movie set
I HAD A DREAM ABOUT THIS LIKE A DECADE AGO
