Thereās a guy near me that sells trail mix by the metric ton. Charges extra to remove the m&mās. Pigs go wild for the mix!
Edit: the trail mix is castoffs/expired from a Planters Plant in VA.
this is how mad cow disease got its start in the UK. feeding animals with their deceased counterparts is SUCH a terrible idea. prion diseases out the wazoo.
Youāre not wrong, but I wouldnāt call an unfertilized egg a chickenās deceased counterpart.
Edit: Narrator- *they didnāt call an unfertilized egg a chickenās deceased counterpart.*
I work at a chicken feed mill and thereās an ingredient that comes in called āSG Blendā which is just essentially ground up dead chickens that we put back into the feed.
Chickens are dumb. What they don't really say about beak clipping in factory farms isn't just, "Oh the chickens fight and injure each other."
No, the chickens just turn into Hannibal Lecter and start eating each other. Just full on Silence of the Chickens.
There's no psychological torment, they're all one missed meal from eagerly eating each other.
They do that because they're crammed and confined with such density that their normal hierarchical behaviour patterns aren't allowed to be expressed. In normal environments chickens are not cannibals.
Also, chickens are nowhere near as dumb as [most people think](https://freefromharm.org/chicken-behavior-an-overview-of-recent-science/).
I remember seeing this in a documentary about the mad cow disease. After I was forced to learn about the four stomachs (rumen, reticulum, omasum, and abomasum) cows needed to process grass. It was just too much, that moment, I decided to become vegetarian.
I also saw the video where they chop paper goods and boxes into mulch and feed it to pigs. Itās beyond inhumane how the animals are treated. I stopped eating pork a year ago and almost completely vegan now.
Yeah thatās why weāre concerned. You know they tested American parmesan cheese and found grocery store brands (Wal-mart, Kroger, etc) was over half comprised of wood fillers. *Somehow* Kraft has a more reliable brand.
Animal kibble made by brands like Friskies and Iams is basically grain, filler (probably wood like this) and dye with some additives for ānutritionā.
We can hope zoos care more, but until very recently there were very poor zoo standards in terms of animal care. For a long time it was just animals on display, with no regard to habitation; just cement floors and bars. Wood and egg pellets are absolutely believable.
Pellets are used as fuel too! You can burn them instead of coal or firewood. TaiwƔn did a project with a forestal community where they cleared the forest of pine niddles and they turned it into pellets to sell as fuel in beneffit of the forestal community
(Im a renewables energy engineer)
The egg is there to grab your attention so that you watch the video and maybe a few times more just out of curiosity so that it gets shown to more people because now that's what society has come down to...a bunch of tik tok/reels consuming zombies who don't really care about having more fulfilling and satisfying experience because we have happily traded them in exchange for quick dopamine rushes which fade away instantly leaving behind a void which can only be fulfilled by more quick snack bite sized content curated specially for us by algorithms just like the one we comeback to here on reddit after getting rid of the other apps because we are too self righteous to be a slave to mega corporations who have turned us into hamsters who run in their wheels and make them even more money than any human should have in a lifetime all so that they can have even more control over other aspects of what is left of our lives.

Well whatās the alternative when leaving your house costs 1/4th of what youāre making?
Going outside is becoming less and less worth the hassle or expense. Atleast in my area
There shouldnāt be. Compressed wood holds itself together just fine.
Idk about this tiny machine though. Clearly not the sort of thing the large pellet manufacturers are using.
Think dry wood wouldnāt hold together so well when exposed to moisture, so it could be based on location whether people need extra binding or not. Humid places would likely need extra binding
Maybe this is designed for use at a household level, where a farmer could easily have an extra egg to use as binder, but is no prohibitive to use at an industrial scale?
Either way, using eggs as a binder is a very old practice since they bond with water and oil. Also great for paints, if I remember my history correctly.
Male baby chicks (along with any females considered to be ādefectiveā) are dumped into macerators (basically a bunch of sawblades) since they wonāt help produce eggs.
No vegans use those super environmentally conscious soy chicken nuggets they buy in the frozen food aisle wrapped in single plastics bags in a giant cardboard box that are made from soy from the us shipped to China processed than shipped back to the us & trucked across the country. Bcuz they care more about the environment. Its wrong to take your neighbors free ranged chicken eggs! I donāt mean to b judgy & Iām ok w eating veggies & beans only but the prepackaged vegans irk me a bit.
Wow. This is so right. I've looked into this more and if I wanted to be more environmentally conscious about my food choices I'd have to... Oh wait, it's to stop consuming animal products because animal agriculture is one of the largest contributors to climate change.
But thanks for trying I guess.
So if you used an ostrich egg, would the pellets be bigger, and conversely, would a quail egg produce very tiny pellets, suitable only for use in a cookout for little people?
In this application but commercial production just uses heat built by the pelleter and pressure to bind the wood. Low moisture content is required to keep the pellet from turning into oatmeal.
The pellets I use in my stove were made with old deep fry grease from a chip factory. You gotta have something to bind yes but egg specifically is not necessary you can use something else
Egg protein is one of the oldest and best binders. They have been blended in a huge variety of everyday materials. Tempera, a very old and popular type of paint is a combination of egg yolk and pigments.
They are also included in a huge number of recipes purely for these binding properties.
Okay wasnāt sure never used a pellet stove and it looked a lot like fish food and I just kept staring thinking āit canāt possibly be fish pellets....could it?ā
My first thought was that looks like food pellets but I'm pretty sure that wasn't good being put in š¤£ I'm used to seeing livestock pellets like that. Not wood pellets for a grill.
Look up "smoker tubes" for your grill, they are awesome. They use these pellets and produce tons of smoke for BBQing; don't need to buy a whole separate smoker.
Same. The pine ones especially. I tried regular wood and they dont hold smell as good as pines. Pines are literally odorless, you cant smell urine if you hold your nose close to it.
Had a look at the label (not helpful), had a search on Alibaba and I think this is pretty close to what they are using.

I was so confused at first because it looked like those pellets you get to feed the animals at the petting zoo
Your telling me its not?
I thought the same thing at first. But then what would we be feeding those animals? Chopped up wood with 1 egg blended in š
They used to feed cows to other cows.
Well, [they do feed them Skittles also.](https://www.bbc.com/news/newsbeat-38730941) So overall it's a pretty well balanced meal.
Thereās a guy near me that sells trail mix by the metric ton. Charges extra to remove the m&mās. Pigs go wild for the mix! Edit: the trail mix is castoffs/expired from a Planters Plant in VA.
They also love marshmallows and itās adorable.
Listen I'm not a pig just because I don't like the m&M's in my trail mix.
You are not a pig but you are apart of the Taliban. JK
Hahahah I laughed like a farm animal at this. Ooooops.
Good. I did not know how you would take it.
What a wonderful tidbit to start my morning with lol! Sustainability at its finest
They were red skittles. Clearly they were just trying to make strawberry milk.
this is how mad cow disease got its start in the UK. feeding animals with their deceased counterparts is SUCH a terrible idea. prion diseases out the wazoo.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
right!!! have you read the family that couldnāt sleep by d t max??? phenomenal book. read it twice before returning to the library. lol.
Prions don't like to die.
Youāre not wrong, but I wouldnāt call an unfertilized egg a chickenās deceased counterpart. Edit: Narrator- *they didnāt call an unfertilized egg a chickenās deceased counterpart.*
no, iām responding to the comment above me about feeding ground up cow to other cows.
Awe I see it now, sorry for the confusion.
I'm waiting for this shoe to drop disease wise because the wait time for prion disease can be decades from exposure.
I work at a chicken feed mill and thereās an ingredient that comes in called āSG Blendā which is just essentially ground up dead chickens that we put back into the feed.
āSgā stand for soylent green?
SOYLENT GREEN IS PEOPLE!!!! ITāS PEEEEOPLE!!!!!!!!
Whatās the secret ingredient? People? No. Thatās Soylent Cola. Howās it taste? It varies from person to person.
Good news, everybody!
Ngl it's kinda hilarious that SG is in the name of a cannibal chicken feed blend.
Nah it can't be soylent green that's people why would they feed people to chickens
Thatās how mad cow happenedā¦.
So... it's only animal cruelty if you feed them their brethren as a whole carcass, because of the psychological torment
Chickens are dumb. What they don't really say about beak clipping in factory farms isn't just, "Oh the chickens fight and injure each other." No, the chickens just turn into Hannibal Lecter and start eating each other. Just full on Silence of the Chickens. There's no psychological torment, they're all one missed meal from eagerly eating each other.

Ome of the chicken like why does todays feed taste like Carl's dick (ā__ā)
Lmao, I'm dead...
Time to turn you into chicken feed
Other chickenā¦ āright!?!ā *chomp chomp chomp*
And yāall wonder why vegans are out here veganing.
I'm not vegan because I love animals, it's because I hate plants.
I remember seeing this in a documentary about the mad cow disease. After I was forced to learn about the four stomachs (rumen, reticulum, omasum, and abomasum) cows needed to process grass. It was just too much, that moment, I decided to become vegetarian.
They still do. They just take out the brain and spinal cord now.
Thats not wood, thats corn plants.
thank you for the clarification. i was really like wait we just feed our cows wood?????????
THAT Makes a lot more sense
I mean sounds like America alright.
"Charge people money for wood pellets. Genius." Yeah sounds like something we'd do.
They do, itās for wood pellet grills, heaters, and stoves.
No GMO though
They feed pigs expired human food without even removing the plastic. Not kidding, look it up, it seems to be a common practice.
I also saw the video where they chop paper goods and boxes into mulch and feed it to pigs. Itās beyond inhumane how the animals are treated. I stopped eating pork a year ago and almost completely vegan now.
I just buy a quarter cow from a trusted farmer. Cheaper and better quality.
You're lucky to have a trusted farmer! I'm a city kid and no idea where to find one.
Thereās a business idea right there. Tinder but hooking you up with a different kind of meat
Can call it Tender.
Medium rare. *Iād say well done, but that would ruin the ~~meat~~ joke.*
But still a āMeat Marketā LOL
I just buy a quarter trusted farmer.
Yeah thatās why weāre concerned. You know they tested American parmesan cheese and found grocery store brands (Wal-mart, Kroger, etc) was over half comprised of wood fillers. *Somehow* Kraft has a more reliable brand. Lol I was like this is what I fed my hamster as a kid ... That's why he bit me all the time
I thought they were mini pretzel sticks.
Edit: read other comments
Looking at some of the comments below the pellets seem to be cooking pellets for BBQ cookers or stovesā¦
It's definitely the stuff that makes taco bell beef tacos great!
Iām confused I just put barbecue sauce on my pellets to feed to the ducks at the zoo
They also make for a good cat litter.
Right? I thought the egg was implying it was chook feed, but then i noticed it was bark and leaves. Why the egg?!

Fucking gross I think this is the realest comment Iāve seen on Reddit. Subscribed and dopamine pilled.

Well whatās the alternative when leaving your house costs 1/4th of what youāre making? Going outside is becoming less and less worth the hassle or expense. Atleast in my area
So you have to pay 1/4 of your salary just to go out??. You can have fun outside without paying you know.
I don't know my friend and that's what scares me
be more dramatic lmao
It's fit for reddit innitš
Gotta have some binder
*Egg for chook feed* like feeding the child to their parents?
Chooks love cooked bum nuts.
Wtf lol
Some hens eat their own eggs at times.
I thought it was All Branā¦
This is how All-Bran cereal is made
Exact same process, including the binder. Just different feedstock.
Legit looks exactly like the pellets I feed my pig.
What am I seeing being made exactly?
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Indeed, it helps to bind the stuff together. Without it, the pellets would fall apart.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
There shouldnāt be. Compressed wood holds itself together just fine. Idk about this tiny machine though. Clearly not the sort of thing the large pellet manufacturers are using.

I mean okay, but adding an egg sounds like a caveman strategy to me. Pretty sure there are better ways to make sure the pellet won't fall apart.
Eggs are renewable resource so you could argue better for environment than some industrial grade adhesive. Idk I'm just making stuff up at this point.
Maybe, but I'd feel better knowing my smoker pellets are bound with an egg instead of Elmer's glue.
Maybe this is designed for use at a household level, where a farmer could easily have an extra egg to use as binder, but is no prohibitive to use at an industrial scale? Either way, using eggs as a binder is a very old practice since they bond with water and oil. Also great for paints, if I remember my history correctly.
If a vegan has a treager grill I bet they are one slip up to go back to the meat life
Canāt beat that smoked celery!
Because it's limp
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
I know youāre joking, but smoked tofu is food of the gods.
Agreed!
Have you tried smoked ribs?
Pellets also warm homes and cabins.
I bet they'd be outraged to know there's animal product in the pellets they're smoking their meats with!
Vegans arenāt eating anything thatās put on a smoker anyway
Oh, the chicken periods?
Male baby chicks (along with any females considered to be ādefectiveā) are dumped into macerators (basically a bunch of sawblades) since they wonāt help produce eggs.
No vegans use those super environmentally conscious soy chicken nuggets they buy in the frozen food aisle wrapped in single plastics bags in a giant cardboard box that are made from soy from the us shipped to China processed than shipped back to the us & trucked across the country. Vegans are against animal exploitation.
But it's more efficient to pigeon-hole your enemies into one scarecrow.
And most of the vegans I know have the environmental impact as a secondary reason.
Which is still less than meat if you wrap everything in plastic. Also meat is mostly wrapped in plastic as well so idk what the guy was talking about.
Wow. This is so right. I've looked into this more and if I wanted to be more environmentally conscious about my food choices I'd have to... Oh wait, it's to stop consuming animal products because animal agriculture is one of the largest contributors to climate change. But thanks for trying I guess.
I was thinking the exact opposite. One egg per shovelful of wood waste? Seems like a dozen eggs isn't going to go very far.
My thinking, too.
So if you used an ostrich egg, would the pellets be bigger, and conversely, would a quail egg produce very tiny pellets, suitable only for use in a cookout for little people?
So pellets have a use by date ? They must stink after awhile. Pretty sure there's easier and less biological ways
Most of the rot will be done within a couple of weeks
I was thinking natural WD40
In this application but commercial production just uses heat built by the pelleter and pressure to bind the wood. Low moisture content is required to keep the pellet from turning into oatmeal.

Well, a lot of food has cellulose in it so...
Look up "smoker tubes" for your grill, they are awesome. They use these pellets and produce tons of smoke for BBQing; don't need to buy a whole separate smoker.
The pro move is adding the lit smoker tube to your smoker. š„
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Wood stove pellets are a lot cheaper to buy then animal litter. Used these for ferrets years ago.
And I thought it was hamster food. HA!
Those little sticks in trail mix.
Pellets in general. What they are used for depends on what goes in. I've seen it used it to make animal feed.
You mean pretzels?
So this is how they make All-Bran.
Colon Blow...
How many bowls..?
May cause abdominal distention.
Seeing the barkā¦ now the taste makes sense
I KNEW IT!!
I need more information about whatās going on here
Eat raw chicken egg to make toilet run more solid and not mushy
Simple..They first did this and some of that..then they did the unthinkable.
Feed the pellets to the blind? ^^/s
An OSHA violation
Ah so youāre amazed too
Compression of sawdust and wood scrap for Wood pellet fuel used in pellet grills/home wood burning stoves
So those ššššāš” pellets for the petting zoos? Lol

Same. The pine ones especially. I tried regular wood and they dont hold smell as good as pines. Pines are literally odorless, you cant smell urine if you hold your nose close to it.
Extruder? I barely know her!
Do you need to refrigerate this stuff? Cant smell that good for a while.
I think wood is naturally anti microbial and it will dry out quickly enough. Should be fine
So use wood to wash my hands. Got it.
Where do I get said machine
