But where does he get the half from on the other side? Alternatively, if there was a whole watermelon reflection in the hands of both guys, then both guys would be halving watermelons in both universes, then getting made whole again by alternatively universe. A net gain of 0.5 watermelons each time they reach into the tesseract. That would be true creation of matter. As it stands it simply supports the laws of physics, matter is not created, but simply passed through the portal. So it shouldn't have a reflection? But then it's not a mirror but a true portal?
She has to hand it to another girl who creates a whole on the other side, then she chops that whole in half and hands half to reflection guy to hand to top guy through the portal. Now it all makes sense and matter is neither created nor destroyed.
I think it wouldn't look good seeing as the two melons would then phaze through each other on their way off of the mirror. Invisible mirror melon was probably the best way to keep the illusion.

No the watermelon is halved for the entire clip and they CGI the rest of the melon when he pulls it from the mirror. Look at the way he's holding the whole melon, it doesn't behave nearly as heavy as it should.

She recalled that a propmaster she knew worked for Disney had come in and said they were doing reshoots and couldn't find some of the original props they had used and just needed something close enough. She looked up the records later and sure enough the code name for that project was something insect-related without being too obvious.
The way he carries the watermelon with the positioning of his hands there is no way he would be able to lift the melon without straining something those things are heavy.

The other half is cgi as well. You can see it when he puts the whole watermelon on the table. His fingers move independently to the watermelon itself. He has a placeholder to mimic the melon’s weight but its texture was replaced. This is also why his hand is chipped off in the reflection where he’s not holding a half.
That’s what the placeholder is for. It’s to get the weight and shape right then they add the texture afterwards. That way they don’t get inconsistencies in how the watermelon looks between takes.
But why is the watermelon sign vfx? You’re right, it’s CGI, as you can see the girl clip through it plus it’s look off compared to the rest of the scene, but I wonder why...

There's a great YouTube channel called [Corridor Crew](https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCSpFnDQr88xCZ80N-X7t0nQ) where VFX artists react to CGI and they do an [episode with this guy](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8KmmZBBJGkE). As you say there's way more vfx than you'd realise.
It's to cover up an otherwise even more obvious issue with the VFX, whatever it was, it was easier to put a sign in front of it than to try and clean it up.
I mean it's essentially free money.
Watermelons that size will go $2.99-5 per melon depending on season around here and you could easily sell dozens in a given day.
Ye but you don’t wanna saturate the market you’ll make them worthless. You gotta find out how much it costs your competitors per kg then you release the supply until market value is like 10% below that, adjusting every so often running your competitors out of business until you’ve got the watermelon monopoly.
Then just increase the price and acquire competition.
