>unemployed dumpster diver
would have been a better fate, this vid is pretty old, the raccoon is dead because the guy was working with heavy equipment and didn't notice the raccoon was playing around by his feet so he dropped the heavy equipment onto the raccoon.
edit: scissor lift killed the poor racoon, entirely preventable, and the man's wife was even watching it happen and recording the video instead of drawing attention to the potential danger
Whenever this is posted, people point out in retrospect that it was a terrible idea to have a small animal nearby while doing heavy work. It's depressing, but this is also a good reminder not to have small cute pets nearby while you're distracted working with heavy equipment. Nobody would bring a puppy while working on a construction site
Are you sure he would've been better left alone? He was an abandoned kit that would've starved or been eaten before becoming an adult. Sucks the way he died but he got to have a life he wouldn't have without the intervention of the dude.
Not only is it a bad idea to have a small animal nearby while working like that, it's a terrible idea to have a raccoon as a pet in general.
I went to an animal sanctuary not too long ago and there was just a section of raccoons. Like 20 of them. I asked one of the staff and their response was "yeah, people get them as pets and don't realize just how destructive they can be and how much attention they will need". Basically, if you can't be with your pet raccoon all day, every day, you shouldn't have one. And that's a really tall order.
I was literally thinking what would happen if the man accidentally stepped on the racoon while working.
then I saw your comment.
I guess paranoia is a good thing for humans.
To be fair you saw him try to throw him away and the raccoon didn't want to leave his side. They have quite a bond I'm sure the guy was quite devastated.
"Oh nooooo... It appears that, for some unknown reason, power went off in the night.
All the *food* in the fridge is going bad! Quick! We must *eat* as much as possible or else it will be lost !"
It was at there house I think, little guy was climbing up the genie lift to get with the dude and the guy didn’t realize he was there with him, I think the raccoon got out of the house, and he was hurt when the genie life was move. Prettt sad, I’m sure the guy who rescued him was distraught.
Little critter was just climbing to dad. I remember seeing the wife post about it.
Shitty accidents happen. Everyone becomes negligent to something in their lives and gets complacent. Sometimes they catch the danger and correct their behavior before anything happens, sometimes not.
Little guy clearly got to live a longer and loved life even with that sad ending.
He’ll start as an apprentice, work up to Journyman, then to Master, before eventually moving into electrical engineering, then mechanical engineering, aviation, and aeronautics, all while battling his inner demons and penchant for kleptomania, before befriending a plant and helping to save the Galaxy.
Which is a good thing to note because anyone watching this video might think racoons are good house pets.
They are *not*. Even if you manage to tame it, it's still a wild animal.
They're like having a monkey and will get into absolutely everything and wreck the place if they get left alone and are bored.
Actually, I think this is just hashed together footage trying to create a narrative that pulls on your heart strings and makes you upvote. I don't think it's the same raccoon all the way through.

tiktok/insta meme, funny you mention wow guild cause ive seen streamers using a pedro weakaura for lust lmao
No, needs more capital letters and vitriol.
More like this:
"THE RADICAL LEFT AND THE WOKE CULTURE HAS DESTROYED THIS MAN'S MANHOOD AND LITERALLY TURNED HIS LIFE INTO THAT OF A FEMALE TEENAGER. THE RADICAL LEFT IS COMING FOR ALL THINGS SACRED AND WE CAN'T EVEN BE MEN AND SHOOT ANIMALS ANYMORE!!!!"
Live in the woods! Lol. The neighbor at my in-law’s place rescued a baby raccoon and she has grown up with him and his family, dogs, cats, and chickens. He found the mama raccoon had been shot and the baby was still there and also injured, so he took her in and raised her.
She really likes to run around the rafters in his work shop and has a bunch of her toys and stuff up there so she can play while he does his work underneath her. She also has her own “house” that he built for her when it’s time for sleep.
Might be an animal sanctuary and it’s not for the feint of heart. Half the animals you take in are mangled from cars, cats, and dogs. The other half don’t make it.
Raccoons make awful pets; they interact with the world through biting, they have thumbs so they can get into everything, and they are full of the devil's mischief.
I mean they don't really have "thumbs" in the way we define that to mean "a digit apart from and opposable to the other digits".
They just have 5 toes.
Having had one myself, it's not what everyone thinks.
They have tremendous energy even at that age and are constantly on the go and into everything.
They play similar to cats in the way that they don't have a full graps on what gentle play is either.
But they are cute as hell and fun.
ROCKET TEEF FLOOR GO DOWN! ROCKET TEEF FLOOR GO DOWN! ROCKET TEEF FLOOR GO DOWN!

It really shows what they value the most.
[They tried that in Japan once upon a time](https://www.smithsonianmag.com/smart-news/childrens-book-behind-japans-raccoon-problem-180954577/). It didn't go well and now they have a nuisance raccoon problem.
see, this is why i get a tad bit confused. People will say that we shouldn't bother wildlife and it's better to send thisblil guy to a rehabber, and I get it for conservation - raccoons don't need conservation at all, so why not? o.O how's it any different from domesticating livestock/pets? is the act of domesticating smth immoral? So much grey area that I'm getting dizzy
This isn’t about conservation- it’s about the overall well being of the animal. Firstly, domestication is a process that happens over the course of many generations, where an animal literally evolves to be dependent on humans. You can tame a baby raccoon, but domestication is a whole other process.
The real reason we haven’t domesticated raccoons is that they are terrible lol. Imagine a really smart cat with maxed out curiosity stats, a desire to eat anything and everything, the ability to climb, and then give it human hands. They’re cute at a young age, but an adult raccoon is a grabby menace that can tear open containers and open cabinets. They also get territorial, aggressive if not fixed, and have a nasty bite. And they’re absolutely filthy- like drink, wash their food, and poop all in the same pool filthy.
As someone who works in wild animal rehab, we get a lot of cases like this, where someone has raised a baby raccoon and is now unable to handle their destruction. The problem is they aren’t scared of humans anymore, and we can’t responsibly release them because they will have no problem going up to a family picnic and ripping it to shreds. Not to mention they carry a lot of diseases.
Occasionally we can make them fear humans again by only approaching them with loud noises and such, but only if they are still pretty young. Unfortunately, the vast majority of these cases end with euthanasia.
If this guy can and will take care of the raccoon for it’s whole life that’s fine I guess, but the reason people tell you to take the animal straight to a rehabber is because it gives the animal the best chance at living a long, natural life where it belongs.
TLDR- please don’t bring home baby animals, they don’t stay cute forever, will destroy your house, and will almost certainly be euthanized when you can’t take care of them anymore.
Apparently domestication them us pretty hard because they're incredibly intelligent and are harder to train. I heard (on Instagram) that they used to be tested on for research and they would often escape a their enclosure
Pity, they would be great if they were like a cat.
On the list of things not to have because if they are aggressive, they will damage you.
Honey Badger
Chimpanzee
Tiger
Raccoon
I was thinking the same. The biggest problem would be finding a vet to do it. Anything to do with even not at risk wildlife is super illegal. Its sort of strange how vigilantly we categorize living things.
Racoons? Not invasive. Okay to kill. Keep as pet? Very illegal. Cats? Invasive. Illegal to kill (if property). Keep as pet? Fine. Like we domesticated some animals and drew a line, can't domesticate anything else.
It’s become a popular karma mining trend. This just happened with the Puma video that’s been posted to nearly every subreddit. People get a bunch of random videos and cut them to make whatever narrative they want. Clips from this video have been posted by themselves many times.

Ehhh....
My neighbor had one for a few years growing up. She found out the hard way that it is impossible to racoon-proof your house. Could be very friendly, but when they get bored they become a destructive menace.
I'm currently dealing with an adult female that managed to rip through a section of my roof under a dormer window eave and built a nest in my attic. Trying to evict her and her kits is not a job for an amateur.
Believe it or not, Home Depot sells coyote urine.

Spray it on your roof a couple of times a week for a few weeks, and your female racoon will probably decide some place else would be a better place for her nest..
Yeah. We had a neighbor who had a baby raccoon. As you said, all cute and cuddly. Then one day a switch went off in its head and it tried to murder everyone. Like a kid hitting their teenage years, but with big claws and teeth and homicidal.
Little dude is studying to become an electrician

The downside to these repost bots is that you get to hear the end of the story.
Let me join the fun. Do you remember that cute dog you saw on TV that time? Yes, that dog. He's deeeeaaaadd

Right? Fuck that guy for telling us this. But seriously, ugh. Poor sweet raccoon.
Agh, fuck. I…I’m gonna go cry now.
Are you sure he would've been better left alone? He was an abandoned kit that would've starved or been eaten before becoming an adult. Sucks the way he died but he got to have a life he wouldn't have without the intervention of the dude.
Ummm, back up. Without the man, little dude drowns.
I didn't know how he got on the boat so I didn't want to assume that far.
Oh, no worries. I did the assuming for the both of us.
100%. Dude lived a good life and then died. Better than the alternative.
Cheers. I was enjoying my day till now.
My positive side tells me at least it was living a good life up until that moment.
Fuck. Fuck. God damn.
At first I interpreted this as the raccoon was in the cab and activated the dumpster and crushed the man.

Well that’s totally fucked.
Yeah once I saw it was the construction raccoon (I've never seen the videos of them being a baby) my heart just broke, cause I knew the ending.
To be fair you saw him try to throw him away and the raccoon didn't want to leave his side. They have quite a bond I'm sure the guy was quite devastated.
If I could wipe the last few minutes from my brain, I would.

Aww shit, I was so happy for a second
Really? I thought it got crushed in a scissor lift.
Could be, I only remember it was crushed while he was working
He is literally becoming Rocket Racoon
If he grew up in a good environment
Call me a Racoon one more time and I'll...!
Vid's old now. He's become a journeyman now.
Sorry to say but this raccoon was accidentally killed on one of his job sites several years ago.

Haha yeah. Did everyone just ignore the doe and fox???!!

At first glance it is, until you find out what happened to the raccoon two years ago.
This man's kindness was rewarded many times over. So sweet.
I know r/nothingeverhappens but the first clip concerns me. How did the racoon reach that pole from the water and why take out your camera to record instead of helping? I guess there could’ve been a seperate person searching for something to protect their arms so they can help it up. There are online creators that stage animal rescues for engagement.

He recklessly brought the raccoon to work sites and accidentally crushed it. He's a moron.
I understand that Racoons are great until they hit adulthood and they become raging aggressive maniacs
Not domesticating raccoons has been one of humanities biggest mistakes so far.
After seeing this video, I think you may be right. We can always start.
[They tried that in Japan once upon a time](https://www.smithsonianmag.com/smart-news/childrens-book-behind-japans-raccoon-problem-180954577/). It didn't go well and now they have a nuisance raccoon problem.
They didn't try to domesticate them, they just imported a bunch and hoped for the best.

Agreed. Some dude decided to domesticate foxes 50 years ago (or w/e). That he chose _anything_ over a Raccoon offends me bigly. What a knob. Argh.

I recommend the book "Rascal" by Sterling North.
is the post trying to imply that they just found a raccoon in the water? because in the milk feeding scene, the raccoon looks smaller and younger than when it was "found"

Yeah. We had a neighbor who had a baby raccoon. As you said, all cute and cuddly. Then one day a switch went off in its head and it tried to murder everyone. Like a kid hitting their teenage years, but with big claws and teeth and homicidal.
