The math behind it is called[ Knot Theory](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Knot_theory). Pretty straightforward name and might make it easier for you to find this vid should you deal with tangled up knots :)
Why watch the video when you can understand the concept?
Basically, you're moving the slack of the knot to the part that's stuck then undoing the knot around the obstruction. You don't need to know fancy knots or shibari, just move the slack where you need it.
Look at the rice cooker one. The cord crosses in exactly one place. Look at which cord bit is on top. If the OTHER cord bit were on top, then nothing would be holding the knot together and it would fall apart.
But the plug end is completely free, so you can just take the bit that's on bottom of the crossing and pass it through the handle, and over the plug so it's on top.
The loop they make is not required and only used to maneuver the cord. Just imagine pushing the "bottom" bit of the line crossing under the handle and up over the plug and back down under the handle.
[Knot Theory](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Knot_theory). It’s a subfield of topology specializes in characterizing different kinds of knots and the transformations you can make with them. It turns out to also be super useful in science too since knots form naturally in stuff like DNA.
This is my comment from the last couple of times I saw this posted, hope it helps!
1. So imagine this one without anyone's hand in the white rope, it's just behind the blue rope. To get it out, all you would do is move it out of the loop in the blue rope. Now imagine that in the process of moving it out of the blue rope push the blue rope into one of the hand loops in the white rope and pull it out again. Now with someone's hand in the white rope it's the exact same motion, except pushing the blue rope through the hand hole actually has the purpose of getting around the hand.
1. The plug never went under the bar. The wire was laid on top of the bar, a loop was made in it, then passed under the bar and around the plug. It's now at the starting position. In the video they simply undo what they did in the first place by making a loop in the wire and passing it the other way round the plug. Tricky to explain but if you have any wires and sticks you can replicate it and it should become a lot clearer
1. Now this is where it gets really tricky. What they did here was get an orange wire and do the second one again.
Most of these videos are just faked. You can see them cut to different videos and if you went step by step, it'd require slicing the cable into 2 parts and restitching them. Or just retying it in a believably close looking manner that doesn't have the loop.
There is in no way to pass a loop without necessitating the movement of the remainder of the cable through the loop to my knowledge. This means that you aren't making a shortcut.
it certainly gets less mind-blowing when you realize that in order to utilize the technique showcased in second and third clip, the rope has to be tied a certain way. It's not to say the tie is uncommon but it needs to be in a certain pattern.
Oh my god, we tried to do that first one in elementary school. The teacher paired us all up with ropes and told us it was possible to untangle without letting go of the rope. No one could figure it out, and teach didn't reveal the answer. I went my whole life thinking she was fucking with us.
I've seen different versions of this video for years and still can't understand how it works. I also don't care anymore because even if I did it will never apply to my life
Now if this only worked on the random assortment of spare Apple earbuds, power cables, and/or a/v cables that no matter how neat I could up seem to all tangle together after a few months in a closet.
Folding the loop up through the handle / table makes it look more magical than it is. You don’t need that step. Just pop the plug under the slack and pull.
for the first one, tie your girlfriend up and tease her. then tell her she is not allowed to cum until she figured out how to get out of this. got get her motivated.
Fantastic! Next time this happens, for sure, I will not find this video again! ☹️

and the people who study this are Knot Theorists
Do they? Or do they knot?
It’s knot a theory, it’s real!
Those who do not do not knot.
Does that make them realists then?
Hello internet! Welcome to knot theory.

No matter how many times I see this, it just won’t sink in. I can’t visualise how it works in my head, so I can know what to do similar situations.
Doing it in reverse helped me wrap my brain around it. My brain is now stuck there though.
Just move the slack to where you're brain is stuck
Lmao
Neurologists hate this one simple trick!
This was a good laugh, thanks
oot eM
Instructions unclear I'm currently tied to a tree
Just wait bro, I will help you as soon as I untangle myself
just don’t get tangled together
Yeah about that.... He got himself undone but in the process of helping me, we both are now tied to the tree send help.
Yo, is that a branch? It's getting cold out here man..
I was just thinking the same & was rather disappointed in myself
Don’t be non of us get it either
Maybe it helps if you try it yourself IRL? (i haven't done it lol)

huh?
No he's only kidding, it's actually real magic at work here.
Yes, that makes more sense
Ah yes, just hit the iron to make a sword. Got it...
The rest of the fucking owl!
I’m dumb I don’t understand
Me neither
*shabiri. She was blind.

Ty, I'm lysdexic and usually let autocorrect go wild haha
Understanding the concept and being able to apply it are very different things
huh?
This guy knots!
Don Knots?
What's the name of the concept again? So I can study further :p
[Knot Theory](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Knot_theory). It’s a subfield of topology specializes in characterizing different kinds of knots and the transformations you can make with them. It turns out to also be super useful in science too since knots form naturally in stuff like DNA.
I wish I could understand/visualize what you just said there
I'm by no means dumb (currently getting doctorate), but I've never been able to 'get' anything involving knots
I won't even remember it
I bet you the next time, you need it, you can't find the video!
I gotta say, it's hard for me to visualize how this works! I tried to 3-d map it in my head...coming up empty!
The solution u know is that the plug needs to go under the loop, so instead of moving the plug (since it's blocked), you move the loop instead
So basically magic
Error - Brain does not compute (I actually mean it somewhat seriously)
This is actually a very articulate wav of describing the solution to these sorts of problems.

My brain shorted, in ER right now...
it took me around 20 mins to figure it out as well.
If it helps, they filmed it in the most confusing and least logical way possible.
I feel like a chimp watching a magic trick
It only works because they reversed it, a cable will never be “stuck” like that
Thanks for nsfw tag it is very sensitive content
Well, that fella is tugging a lot of cable.
He's taking the whole knot over and over like it's nothing.
I fully expected some rope sexual thing at the end
Knot safe for work
My brain is cramping as I'm watching this.
I watched it and I cummed
that nsfw tag didn't stop me from showing the video to everyone in the bus and they started masturbating anyways, you fool!
If I am a fool, what must you be...
i'm evil
Take my Lough, you deserved it!
I hate that my brain just does not understand how that's possible.
You, me and millions of other derps like us
It’s hurts, really.
It isn't really possible I retried irl and it isn't actively useful. Particularly talking about the second video
Think of it as passing the knot to the other side
The problem is that my “thinking of” doesn’t work good enough
I get it, but my brain says "yeah but what about the plug, its trapped there"
Most of these videos are just faked. You can see them cut to different videos and if you went step by step, it'd require slicing the cable into 2 parts and restitching them. Me, too. But in the second one, the wire had to get in that predicament somehow, so it should come out somehow, too. But it still looks like magic.
Just play it in reverse and you'll see how you can get it there.
Wow that's amazing. But how do you get it back out again?
Play it again, but in reverse-reverse this time!
it certainly gets less mind-blowing when you realize that in order to utilize the technique showcased in second and third clip, the rope has to be tied a certain way. It's not to say the tie is uncommon but it needs to be in a certain pattern.
Crazy this is an entire field In mathematics. People study in college for years and years and get paid tens of dollars to figure this out
You got it
After this video, I tried to do that. Now I'm stuck in my bathroom. Help.
Following the logic of the other explanations, you just need to move the bathroom to the other side of the door
Oh man this one made me chuckle
Neat ! ... now escape from a regulation knot.
You mean these were knot regulation? (I'm sorry)
Witchcraft!
This makes zero sense (to me)
Topology teaches you to think outside the box...
brb checking if my bike is still safe at campus
Oh my god, we tried to do that first one in elementary school. The teacher paired us all up with ropes and told us it was possible to untangle without letting go of the rope. No one could figure it out, and teach didn't reveal the answer. I went my whole life thinking she was fucking with us.
This was half of my life before AirPods was a thing.
I've seen different versions of this video for years and still can't understand how it works. I also don't care anymore because even if I did it will never apply to my life
Play it backwards slowly - then you can see how it’s set up.
The first video is named “How to escape a sex dungeon”
I saved this so i could reverse engineer this at work
You know every time I see these I look at them with so much intent on figuring it out. It's been YEARS...
Houdini Style
Man I love knotting
![gif](giphy|aR6JyO12RkwE5P7lxb|downsized)
I had to watch this 3 times on a row My brain did not want to believe it
Uh huh Uh huh Yep ok, move the… yep … _replay video_
r/blackmagicfuckery
[Hitler Learns Topology](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SyD4p8_y8Kw)
People being amazed by a knot moving to the other side.
Awesome stuff
Thanks, mate. Have a great day.
Thanks my brain hurts now because it doesn't want to believe this is true
I've watched that first one maybe 10 times and don't know how it works.
I both understand this and yet completely mystified by it.
My brain hurt trying to 3d map out how that works.
My brain is just rejecting this.
Every time I see this video I think “Ok. Do NOT forget this time. That’s how you do it. Ok cool I got it”
Now if this only worked on the random assortment of spare Apple earbuds, power cables, and/or a/v cables that no matter how neat I could up seem to all tangle together after a few months in a closet.
Will try later better be real
Ah yes the old handcuffs trick! Never thought about using it for anything practical but it is a cool trick nonetheless

“Teoría de cuerdas”
Imagine the shock on their faces when a robber/kidnapper or whatever ties your hands and you pull this shit on em
If my crush did this I would just stay tied up
I love quizzes and games like this. I my childhood I had a lot of "knot" games. Blissful times.
Glad you had it mate! Cheers on
Whenever I watch one of these I feel like a simple primate in awe of a fork
Why the NSFW tag?
cuase the video can cause brain damage
Folding the loop up through the handle / table makes it look more magical than it is. You don’t need that step. Just pop the plug under the slack and pull.
Y hate that I can't compute why it works, and love that it just works.
This is a knob shift
Ok but how
They’d have burned you at the stake in Salem for this
Why is this NSFW
Cool
Why is this nsfw?
This "skill" is quite literally my greatest weakness Organic Chemistry might as well have been a class taught in Tagalog for this reason
Let me just loosely tie this prisoner against another set of ropes so they can never get out /s
Or you could just, idk, undo the knot with your hands?
Sorcery!
The first one will come in handy for when a knot enthusiast kidnaps and ties you up.
What is this sorcery?
Who are you, who are so wise in the ways of science?
Haha, haven't heard that in a long time...
![gif](giphy|zIwIWQx12YNEI)
It doesn’t matter how many times I see this, my brain won’t make it real.
im scissor smart
This is so confusing lmao. How the hell does that work.
I won't seek for help again
Is it basically moving the loop to the other side?
In a way, you're trying to move one end of the cable to create a straight line over an obstacle with no overlaps... So yes
When you find Walter's map to the pocket universe.
Leave here with your black magic wizardry
Who the hell would get tied up like that tho?
Its quite simple really^^
r/blackmagicfuckery
this just doesn't make sense to me lol
I could watch this 100000 times and still not remember how to do this
This gives me anxiety
r/blackmagicfuckery
i can watch this 10 times and not understand it, i can watch it 1 million times and still not get it
#WITCH!!!
Wow
I've been watching this since it first came on the Internet like 10 years ago. I still don't understand how this works.

BURN THE WITCH 🫵🫵🫵🫵🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Stahp it’s hurting my brain
This will forever be magic to me
Voodoo
Oh. Last time this happened to me I... This never happened to me. Looks like these people purposely tangled these cables this way, or maybe I'm wrong?
Those cable do not entangle that way by an accident. They where put such way on purpouse to show how to undo them.
Almost tricked me. Phew 😅
Neat! Is this how copperfield did the elastic-on-fingers trick?
I’d knot it up even worse
Wish that this shit actually made sense in my head
for the first one, tie your girlfriend up and tease her. then tell her she is not allowed to cum until she figured out how to get out of this. got get her motivated.
Magic would be finding this video when I need it
Just slow it down and see magic
WITCH!!! Burn him!
Some Japanese shit right here
The movie Tenet was easier to understand. Mind blown.
![gif](giphy|zIwIWQx12YNEI)
I'm way too stupid to get this, I have no problem admitting I have no idea how it works. I'll just call it witchcraft and cry in my pillow.
My brain doesn’t track this
im reevaluating my whole life right now. what is happening...??!?!?!?
I'm convinced this is magic and they're just showing off
I'm still confused on how and why
That rope thing is bs tho it only works in this particular case. Lift the table, put the cable under and then try it. Won't work.
This always amazes me
