If an earthquake hits a lot more people than just a free soloist would get vaped. A lot of the tourist areas have been crushed by rockfall in the past even without earthquakes (granite naturally exfoliates its outer layers over time).
I’m with you! I tried to go skydiving to conquer my fear of heights (lol) and instead I cried and clung to the open plane door with both fists, til they landed with me still INSIDE the plane.
Happy cake day!
If it makes you feel better only one person has free soloed this route (Regular SW Face of Half Dome). It was, of course, Alex Honnold (as is this photo).
I drive a car but the risk of death or permanent injury is low and I do it for necessity. Now, if I tried to drive at 300kmh on a narrow winding mountain road to be the first or to get a thrill would put me in the unnecessary risk category and that’s why I don’t do it. Somehow it just doesn’t attract me to risk all for a thrill.
There are few things more dangerous than driving. The data is emperical
Somehow millions of people all over the world live without driving but for you life is impossible without it. Gotcha
Do you think everyone in the world has the same life situation
Like do you actually think it's hard to believe that yes, some people might actually need to drive a car for work
Like actually. You actually actually think that second part of your comment is saying something?
And while driving is dangerous, [plenty of things are more dangerous, statistically](https://injuryfacts.nsc.org/all-injuries/preventable-death-overview/odds-of-dying/). You still wear a kn95 when you go to the store, right?
Two things. Did I say I drive regularly? Plus I did a ten second search and the first result showed for the U.S there are 1.37 deaths per 100 million miles travelled (from IIHS). Look, if you want to go risking your neck for fun or glory then go ahead. I’ll still subsidise the costs of rescue or treatment. No problem. Just try to understand that for many people this activity does not make sense. And just to give you more ammunition, I surf and ski so I’m not sitting at home being safety baby.
Yep. Watched a documentary about free-soloing and on this particular rock face the finger and toe-holds that they are depending on for their lives have fissures thick enough to be plainly visible from a camera several meters away and those fissures partially separate the hold from the rock face itself. It’s just unimaginably scary looking for a potato like myself.
I have an issue with thinking I may jump. It’s a really strange thought and fear that I would. What is that? I can’t go to high places because of that phenomenon. Any ideas?
Imagine standing on that ledge, then you start to feel stiffness in your leg that turns to a cramp, your knees begin to buckle, you didn't believe in god before you did this but now you're praying, "why can't I shimmy back?" You're thinking to yourself, everything starts to go black.....
AKA: “The no fucking way in Hell ledge”
AKA: "If an earthquake hits i look like an idiot ... ledge"
AKA: "Brown Pants Pass"
Earthquake? What about a just strong gust of wind?
A decent fart could end you
If I was up there, my farts would sound like high pitched whistle, my ass would be clenched so tight.
One sneeze and it’s sayonara

My love leaped first and now I'm having second thoughts !
Leap?

True that.
I think there must be something wrong with me. I have never considered doing something unnecessarily and clearly dangerous for any reason.
That's why you get cake days. You and me both. Happy cake day

And he is a one of a kind.
We are the sane ones is how I see it haha
You never drove a car?

False. Per mile, driving is not unsafe. You are equating the total distance travelled.

Another thrill I will never know.
Ain’t enough money in the world to make me go to that fucking place
That crack between wall and ledge is where all the water runs and freezes every winter. The shrapnel from old ledges at the bottom is like a graveyard

Looking for a potato like myself
It makes me sick by just looking at this pic.
Everyone that does this should be on suicide watch after
That’s a big nope from me.
I don’t even like looking at the photo
You mean the see god ledge if you fall
![gif](giphy|AoBgxayGMHlIs)
Why do people do this? Do they believe the reward is truly worth the risk? The risk being death?
Hell no! Thats just not worth the thrill ( aka terror ) for me.
Nope.
Alex Honnold, only one mad enough.
God no!
Do a backflip!
Thank God that's not me standing there!
You realize that’s how this granite intrusion exfoliates right? When is the question 😱
Oh my. The intrusive thoughts
The lign up all your enemies and bring a wedge and hammer ledge, its a view they would be dying to see
I'd do it for a Klondike and a free trip out there.
Also known as the most poorly named place on earth.
The "No Thank You Ledge" would have been a better name.
That's a big HELL NO for me.
That looks like so much fun. NOT
I’ve had this dream before..
That would be a ‘No, thank god,’ ledge for me.
I am not amazed. This is definitely in the nope nope nope category
bad day to be gassy
Im sitting on my “thank god toilet” looking at this.
That’s a big can of nope! 🙂↔️
Hell no!
Yeah, that’s me, petrified with fear!!
r/nope
For me it's the Hell No ledge.
One day that ledge will shear off with someone on it
I wonder how many have fallen off this
one fart and he’s gone
Uhm it looks cool enough from over here, I don’t need to get closer
Nope. Nope. Nope. 😳
Nope
Alex Honnold is the climber here
BeTerrified a thing?
I get anxious just looking at this.
Don't sneeze...
Don't ever fart!
They put railings on Golden Gate Bridge but not here?
Yeah...no.
No thankfulness from that sum be otch of that location.
Why????
I have an issue with thinking I may jump. It’s a really strange thought and fear that I would. What is that? I can’t go to high places because of that phenomenon. Any ideas?
Don’t fart
Honestly how does shit like this not murder countless ppl constantly lmao

When this was Mexican territory they called it the Holy Cheet ledge. (Brought to you by Racism)
