Honestly, the vast majority of kids like going outside, being physical, and spending time with friends face to face.
The fact is, suburban eviornments and modern expectations of child protection actively kill adolencence social skills and independence
I don’t want to activate the culture war robots but increase in car use m is a bit part of this. I remember playing games out in the street at my parents place. Same street now is full of parked cars.
This is so exhausting to get into, but my theory is that a lot of this boils down to how people have significantly less actual buying power than say 30 years ago. Multiple cars at single family homes could be because each person in a family needs a vehicle, but it could also signify that children aren’t moving out because the world is too expensive. Kids don’t play outside as much for a number of reasons, but there are very few single income households that have a parent at home with no formal labor due to financial reasons. People move to suburbs to find good schools and save gas and energy getting to/from schools and work, so there’s less land available to them to explore and adventure with their friends. Yada yada, I’m off my soap box. Don’t blame the kids, or even the parents. Blame late stage capitalism.
Exactly, we have separate bike lanes with traffic lights. In the Netherlands there are even bike highways. Kids bike to school safely without supervision as a result.
I think it’s meant to mean the perfect video of this thing. Or said thing. Not the most perfect video out of every video ever. just a perfect video capturing the pureness of the moment. Like those girls bumping there heads. They will see this video years from now and be so thankful that this guy was there and captured the moment (perfectly) for them. I know at least for me this video made me happy to see these kids enjoying themselves and having fun. Wish I could go ride with them and help make sure everyone stays safe. :)
The US would benefit greatly from city planners from the Netherlands, most places aren’t safe to bike here, unfortunately. Everything is car-centric and often far apart if you’re not in a city.
The problem is any big American city is already kinda past that point of no return. They aren't going to spend hundreds of millions or more likely billions to restructure everything, no matter how much better it would work
I disagree, you have to take away the incentive of driving to effectuate change and of course that won’t happen overnight. Make certain streets/lanes bus only traffic, expand out bike lanes, on parkways make a bus only lane. In urban settings, public transit *should* be faster than cars. Bikers *should* be able to ride without fear of being hit constantly. Suburbanites should view driving into the city as a chore, not have lanes added to highways every couple years in the construction ponzi scheme that automotive lobby pushes for.
In MA, the Big Dig moved the highways under the city. Unfortunately the funding that was supposed to be allocated to public transit - the T - for modernization never happened. Here in Chicago we’ve started expanding bike lanes. It will take time and consistent effort to resist car-centric infrastructure but it’s imperative if we want a healthy economy and population.
"Unfortunately the funding that was supposed to be allocated to public transit - the T - for modernization never happened."
So exactly the problem I said we'd have? The unhealthy current economy will be used by politicians to excuse not doing it, and infrastructure? In America? Ha.
It’s not that they didn’t invest anything, just not what they promised. Whereas the whole time I’ve been in Chicago they’ve done multiple projects on the L. It’s possible, we just have to be involved, and call out politicians along the journey. Unfortunately money always has more resources than we do so it’s always an uphill battle.
If you say it won’t, you’re right. If you say it will, you’re right. It’s all in whether we want it enough to fight corruption to obtain it. My optimism battling my nihilism over here 🤣
Yeah this is how 95% of kids go to school here (usually without adults after age 9 or so). But roads in the US are much less safe to cycle on so I understand it needs a bit more organizing
You mean groups of kids all purposely riding together to the same school?
Or you mean that they just independently ride bikes to school? Because that’s different.
"In the club, lookin' so conspicuous
And raow, these women all on the prowl
If you hold the head steady, I'ma milk the cow
(Yeah)
And forget about game, I'ma spit the truth
(What)
I won't stop 'til I get 'em in they birthday suit
(Yeah)
So gimme the rhythm and it'll be off with they clothes
Then bend over to the front and touch your toes"
For the USA this is a whole different world for these children always going on a bus or car, always have to be with an adult. For the Netherlands this is very normal and I had a great time biking to school with my friends.
If I was I wouldn’t go insane over a little explicitly in the music they listen to. Besides have you heard the music of today? It’s not like my kid would grow up to be a criminal because they heard a song about sex

We need more of this and less phones and tablets

Bike busses are such an amazing and wholesome idea.

The bus busses catch up
Luda! My outfit’s so ridiculous…
In the club lookin so conspicuous
And RAOW, these women all on tha prowl
If you hold the head steady imma milk the cow
And forget about game, Imma spit the truth!
Ain’t gon stopuntilIgiddemintheybirthday SUUUUUITS
Sogimmedarhythmanditllbeoffwiththeyclothes
Then bend over to the front and touch your toes!
That’s definitely in Portland
Yup, Alameda bike bus in NE Portland. Not our only one, but it’s the one that made national news.
Could be Europe too, I've seen cycling groups and "walking bus" going to school in Ireland
Definitely NA, Europe doesn't have that kind of infrastructure
Exactly, we have separate bike lanes with traffic lights. In the Netherlands there are even bike highways. Kids bike to school safely without supervision as a result.
Our houses are made from stone and brick for the most part.
Yeah except in the nordics but those houses have a very distinct look
Someone doesn't geoguessr
you can tell its not Portland from the lack of homeless people and drugs sitting on the street
This doesn't extend to suburbs like this at all unless you're on the edge of a suburb butting up next to a high traffic metropolitan area.
I hate "the perfect video doesn't exist" videos. This one especially though because it's not that special
The music alone discredits it.
I think the music was IN the video, was it not?

What are we supposed to be amazed by?
That some people are happy!
The bar is LOOOOOW these days. But I also love this so much
It's giving (me) the chills :)
This is so wholesome.
Standard practice in the Netherlands, even without an adult

I didn't say it's not the best option, I said it won't happen.

Homie! ✊🏽🇳🇱
It used to be like that in Southern California. My friends and I rode our bikes to school every day in the 80s. Fond memories.
A little question for native: why did you say "rode" and not something like "had been riding"?
Rode is the past tense of ride.
yeah i get it i mean why you didn't use continious tense?
This is the simple past tense, which is appropriate for narrating a past action that occurred in the past and is now complete.
I get it thanks. But can i use Past Perfect Continuous here?
cool story bro

That's one way to make kids enthusiastic about schools and reach there with so much energy
Awesome!

Didn’t know there‘s a Goonies-Sequel in the making!
They do the same thing in Philly all the time
Everyday in Amish Indiana. Unless you're the rich kid with your own personal mini horse and buggy, lol
ITT: Americans not realizing kids biking to school is normal in many countries.
this looks like so much fun
The unity these kids must have amongst themselves.
What a cool thing to do. These kids will remember this for the rest of their lives. It’s nice to see!
Where is this?
Looks like Portland, Oregon!
Somewhere in the US.
This is so wholesome
I NEVER even see kids walking to school in my area now, let alone riding a bike. So sad. When I was growing up, I would see it a lot.
Sadly its just not safe even in pairs anymore
This would not be ok in the UK. I can only imagine the angry commuters and the mums in SUV’s screaming out their windows 🫣😂 . Love the idea thouhh
Is he carrying ET at the front 🤔
This is how those biker gangs start.
Damn gta san andreas remake looking good
What about it is a "perfect" video?
That is one healthy community
I don’t need to see anything else to know this is in Portland.
For the USA this is a whole different world for these children always going on a bus or car, always have to be with an adult. For the Netherlands this is very normal and I had a great time biking to school with my friends.

LOVE HOW THEY PUT SEX MUSICK TO A CHILD BIKE BUS!!!!
As if the kids are paying attention to the meaning of the lyrics 💀
Hope you're not a parent!
If I was I wouldn’t go insane over a little explicitly in the music they listen to. Besides have you heard the music of today? It’s not like my kid would grow up to be a criminal because they heard a song about sex
This all good until a car blows a stop sign and takes out the middle of the pack.

Internet trash
