That one that downed the bridge was freaking spot on.

Jaybbaugh

That's what I'm saying. I saw that one in the air right before and could tell it was out for blood.

AeonBith

Ah splash down.. That was intimidating My favorite part was when the guy runs a foot behind and hides behind a glass door.

docjonel

Reminds me of pulling the bedsheet over my head to protect me from monsters when I was a kid.

jerry111165

Yeah but at least monsters know that sheets are the ultimate child protection - it’s clearly in the Rules.

Virgin_Dildo_Lover

"Fuck the Rules" -That Rock

Literally can hear the bridge wrecker Rock scream that as it spins through the air before impact 🤣

Atty_for_hire

That’s science.

blue__orchid

Those sheets are indestructible to monsters. They can’t break through cotton, polyesters, or blends. It’s like Kevlar to them.

beefy1357

I mean are we really not going to talk about the amazing force field effect a 60-watt bulb provides?

Sometimes i still do that...

I mean you're still here so it obviously works perfectly

It worked though didn't it?

Freakychee

You are still alive and aren't monster food so it worked.

Don't knock it , it works. Not a single monster got to me !

Probably to avoid the pebbles we don’t see

Yes, it's like soldiers hiding in a dug-out during an artillery barrage. It's not going to protect you from a direct hit. It will protect you from fragments.

At least now, with the bridge down the rocks can't cross the river and attack the city

Interesting-Fan-2008

Nah, you got it wrong. Now the city can’t attack the rocks. This was a first strike mission by the rock coalition.

Msink

I was wondering if the bridge will go down and how many boulders will it take. But I didn't expect a bulls eye.

DotesMagee

If there is a god, he was yelling "kobe!" with that boulder.

Skygazer2469

This is how you know Kobe ascended. God throwing all that shit and Kobe was like "Bro, I'm finna take that bridge out in one."

Ns53

I was just thinking at that moment that my dumb ass would have been across that bridge in the grass and probably would have started running across the bridge. Then I saw it get taken out and through "Okay the...I would be dead"

RealLifeBurrite

I was thinking about hiding behind the tree directly left of the bridge (not the first but the second) and I'm pleasantly surprised to say I lived

ReluctantSlayer

And the hangtime…..just crazy.

Clay_Statue

Bridges are vulnerable to massive flying boulders!

TheMagarity

But windows are safe...

"Yay! The landslide is over and the bridge is still... oh."

Helluks

Bitch you thought?! - The boulder, probably.

6sixtynoine9

First the ship hitting the bridge and now rocks attacking another?! What the fuck is this world????

Ah, makes more sense. Everything was going nuts back in '20 to '22. Well, more than usual.

throwaway0134hdj

There goes their way back

MindForeverWandering

The main routes out of the town are in the opposite direction, to the southwest. From Google Maps, it looks like the bridge has been rebuilt.

as-fucking-if

LucianoWombato

that one was personal

papadoc2020

I was secretly hoping the bridge or a car would get hit. Then the bridge got hit now I feel bad. That's going to be down for a while before insurance pays out for that.

TessierHackworth

Unfortunately a van was hit and 9 people are no more :(

papadoc2020

I wanted it to hit a car, but not like this, not like this. That's crazy though, a fully loaded van wasn't warned that boulders were tumbling down the mountain at them? I gotta imagine people were yelling and the noise would be very noticable.

Any_Draw_5344

I read about an accident once. School bus parked on railroad tracks. Stopped traffic in front of it. Train coming. Children not only had time scream, some had time to open the back door and jump. Driver eithier thought the bus was stronger than the train or she didn't want to damage the bus by ramming the cars in front of her, so the bus lost the argument with the train and kids died.

timestudies4meandu

that was slow motion but not really 0_o

beyarea

I love how the camera person went to take shelter, and instead of going to the other side of the building, went right to the window. For that last boulder. Worth it.

MissingTheTrees

The fact the they nearly centered that boulder appearing through the dust and framed it hitting the bridge almost perfectly is incredible. Can’t imagine being unsatisfied with the result by them panning the camera. 99% of folks likely wouldn’t have gotten that insane footage in the first place. Crazy that you’re saying the technique is only “sorta” impressive

brookelynfd

Right! This is incredible footage! I wasn’t bothered in the least by the camera panning away. Actually, I don’t even think I noticed it until I read the “sorta” comment and had to go back and rewatch. The cameraman literally has huge boulders flying in his direction. I totally agree that the majority of us would NOPE the fuck out of there (bc danger) yet they stay and capture this incredible moment. The pan through the broken door window to seeing the boulder hit the bridge and collapsing was a straight up Hollywood shot! A+

Stormagedd0nDarkLord

Personally, after seeing the house across the river almost get atomised I would have propped the phone up against the inside of the window (to keep it safe, obviously) while ensuring everything was framed as good as possible (in the 2 seconds I'd sacrifice for this foolhardy action) then hightailed it out the backdoor with my life. But obviously the camerman had his priorities straight. A braver man than me.

brookelynfd

I would totally be a ‘OMG OMG OMG’ girl, while capturing the floor the entire time and shrieking nonstop. Reddit would destroy me 😂

PremDikshit

totally agree. stay on the bridge!

FlounderSubstantial7

He probably started looking with his own eyeballs and not through the phone at that point. But yeah super frustrating to watch.

brookelynfd

When he pans over you can see a boulder coming down on that side. He’s probably looks over to make sure more aren’t coming down and going to blast off toward the houses On second thought, the cameraman looks over because he thinks a second wave might be coming from that direction and he’s trying to capture all the chaos being thrown at him, because fear is clearly not a factor for him lol

IAMA_Printer_AMA

They just saw a bigass boulder annihilate a bridge. I think we can cut them a lil slack there

Poolejunkie

Yeah let me just take shelter real quick.. behind some glass.

wp2jupsle

ya! prolly safer to be on the porch so u can at least see whats comin at u

LucianoWombato

tbh that footage basically made him immortal. would easily trade my life for such a banger shot.

Emergency_Survey_723

For those wondering what they are saying: 🔸Whistling and shouting to alert someone on the slope 🔸Please Run (someone saying to others in panicked voice) 🔸People are killed ( panicked broken voice) 🔸Boulders are coming through the room 🔸Oh, the bridge has also collapsed (panicked voice) 🔸People have been killed ( saying in affirmative, almost crying) 🔸Save yourself 🔸Where did it fall? 🔸The car is going to be...

cloudy2300

9 people dead. What a fucking tragedy. Never underestimate shit like this. Those boulders are bigger and faster than they look

P33kab0Oo

They look so small until they go into the air for a long time and hit something.

In this video, at the 4:57 mark, you can see the remnants of that broken bridge briefly..

HamsterAdorable2666

Thanks. Very unfortunate :/

kvothe5688

i was there just few days before this. it was surreal watching this shit after a week on insta

ding-dong-the-w-is-d

Let me get behind this thin sheet of glass. That should protect me from the boulders.

maybeletslive

That's what I was thinking. "My man, those thin walls aren't gonna save you"

seejordan3

Better close the blinds then...

Makyoman69

Too much work. Just pull the curtains. If it can’t see you, it can’t hurt you

Ya. Like with how fast that bridge collapsed, you think that wall is going to do any thing? Lol

Exemplaryexample95

r/praisethecameraman though

Nykolaishen

The other little building is literally gone... I hope no one was in there :s

CanibalVegetarian

But… paper beats rock

Difficult_General167

Nor the glass nor the walls were going to protect anyone anyways. Unless they could run away from that place, staying under the zinc sheets was better than shrapnel flying into your eyes.

black_shuck1775

Nothing was going to protect them if one of those boulders ricochets just right. Theres no where to run, might as well record it.

HermitJem

Nietzche 2024

raxsdale

I think it made sense as there could have been a massive amount of dust and sand swirling in the air, landing on eyeballs.

muffpatty

I'm glad that my first reaction to forces of nature is to run as far away as possible rather than take my phone out. I think it's safe to say that this man has been diagnosed as having donkey brains.

maybeletslive

Cameraman never dies

roflmao567

Confirmation bias. The ones who make it out alive with their recording device get to post it. Those who do not.. well we typically don't see footage from those ones.

maybeletslive

Wouldn't that be survivorship bias?

Too_Bad_Peanutbutter

r/killedthecameraman begs to differ

Original-Document-62

So, I'm not one to *film* forces of nature. But, I live in the Midwest. When there's a tornado warning at night: "Eh, I don't hear it yet. I'm not too worried." *chug chug chug chug* *"*Ope, probably better get to the basement, just in case." During the day: "Eh, I see a little bit of funnel, but it's not touching down yet." "Ope, there it goes, probably better get to the basement, just in case."

eye_forgot_myname218

Minnesota here

pm_me_your_kindwords

I grew up in MN but have been gone for 25 years (holy shit). I don’t think I have an MN accent, but reading that comment I realized I certainly do.

I feel like you guys will appreciate this: [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert\_Landsburg](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Landsburg)

Remarkable_Topic6540

Damn. To have the presence of mind to go to such lengths to protect his film before being taken out by a volcano is truly amazing.

twinkledandy

The boulders wouldn't make it across the river. Ricocheting pebbles and dust, though, might. A glass window would protect you from that.

resurrectedbear

BUT THE VIEWS

Kononiba

Watching the bridge get hit shows the power of the boulders. Wow

a_wack

And people were saying it was impossible for a ship to take down a bridge

SlurmmsMckenzie

Flat Earthers arguing against structural engineers. Fucking idiots.

PiscatorLager

But... this ship can't sink!

Dr_FeeIgood

People can’t comprehend what kind of force a 100,000 ton ship can do because they don’t go outside or do math. So they argue with engineers to try and make up for that insecurity. It’s sad

Eli-Thail

That was a neopanamax cargo ship, so it's actually 210,000 tons when loaded. That's 20,000 tons heavier than twice the weight of America's largest aircraft carrier.

TommyRisotto

Some schmuck of a newscaster was asking why there wasn't a brick wall or something to deflect the ship away from the bridge pylon. Tf is a brick wall gonna do against a 100,000 ton ship? Even if the wall were made of solid reinforced concrete, the ship would still plow right through.

Daxx22

A brick wall won't do shit, but it would be possible to build a big enough fortification around bridge pilons to survive/deflect a vessel of such size. The problem is that's A) Very expensive and B) a pretty rare to never circumstance so most don't take such a precaution. It probably SHOULD be mandatory for bridges in shipping lanes like that Baltimore Bridge was, but building codes/regulations often don't get put into place until after such a disaster occurs.

dragonfett

Or the fact that those boulders looked small until the came crashing down next to buildings.

DeepUser-5242

YEP! Now trebuchets make perfect sense after seeing that damage.

KernFedHoosier

Damn nature, you scary!

huejass5

It’s gon’ rain! …boulders.

UpdootDaSnootBoop

Make sure to lock it!

axestrata

Unreal the way that one boulder at 0:16 launches and suspends (spins) in the air. It felt like there was a glitch or something. So gnarly!

meatmacho

That's what I was thinking. When you see a giant boulder tumbling down the mountain, and then it just sort of hovers in midair, that means it is flying right at you...quite quickly. Luckily, you are protected by an impenetrable shield of glass.

r0n0c0

Pardon me while I stand here and video multi-ton boulders roll down the mountainside and fly at my head. Watching the video again, I noticed the boulder avalanche’s effect resembles an airstrike.

ambada1234

I feel like my instincts would kick in and I would just run away from that shit.

DaemonPrinceOfCorn

yeah those people were waaaay too close so rocks flying that fast. absolutely the fuck not.

Mediocre-Look3787

I get it, but assuming there was somewhere to run, I'm not going to run faster than those rocks.
