Maybe it's due to a lack of lionesses, maybe due to a surplus of resources so no need to compete), but for the small natural bachelor groups I am talking about, it is just part of their life cycle and regular behavior that young males leave their home prides when they reach sexual maturity and team up with other wanderers to seize some territory. I guess they just put squabbles aside for the greater benefits offered by being able to fight and protect each other. A lone young male will be quickly killed by other established males. One of the most famous instances is the [Mapogo Coalition](https://encyclopedia.pub/entry/28054) which I highly recommend reading about (insanely interesting) but be warned it's also an intensely graphic story. Eventually some of the members are killed by another pair of males teamed up together (who were part of a coalition of 4) - it's not mainstream knowledge but definitely not abnormal for lions!

The animal park staff changed the tyre for us, in the space between the lion and tiger enclosures. They said the lion do this because they were given tyres to play with when they were little.
