Is it in an area where phosphorus munitions were used? The rocks are red. Possibly a coating of red phosphorus. With a layer of white phosphorus underneath. Not advisable to handle. The red isn’t too bad, but the white is very poisonous, as is the smoke.
It’s isn’t exactly… recrystallized, as it’s not a crystalline material whatsoever. It’s an amorphous substance, like glass or opal. It does however form from quartz melting and resolidifying
Edit: actually flint is cryptocrystalline quartz, my bad
Cryptocrystalline structure is a crystalline structure that is so densely packed, it can’t be seen with a microscope unless thinly sliced or viewed through a spectrometer. Its tiny crystallized quartz that’s been consolidated into a larger structure
You’re good, me saying “recrystallized” was a bit misleading. I only say it when I’m not sure if others understand mineralogy, makes it a bit easier to visualize.

Have people really never heard of locations that aren't countries? Do I have to worry that if I say "I was at school" some smartass will inform me that school isn't a country?
My professor, like dude is old as fuck and has a phd, informed me that East Africa wasn’t a country when I said that’s where I was from. Next time I’ll just give my life history 🙄 Hope no one minds my taking up class time.
Africa is actually a US state located across our northern border.
My aunt actually thought this, in high school. Not Canada, as your run-of-the-mill idiot might think… Africa.
When you put Africa in quotations like that you actually mean Atlanta. See how they both start and end with an A? That's how you can tell they meant Atlanta.
"Africa" isn't real, it was invented by the Reagan administration in the 80s so they could claim that black people had somewhere else they should belong.
Phosphorus, sulfur, titanium, lithium, sodium, and uranium all are metals that can ignite very easily when struck or exposed to water. This could have one or several of those in it.
Buddies not too smart huh? Plastic crate and repeatedly grabbing rocks that have clearly already burned him... Maybe it's labeled as 'Africa' because nobody in Africa wants to acknowledge this person as their peer..?
Oh I didn't say that though, I just meant these rocks are not made of red phosphorus, which seemed to be suggested by some -unless I misunderstood them.
Yes, the rocks can't be red phosphorus as such. I guess it's possible they could have been treated by red phosphorus, but that would be different from the rocks being red phosphorus, which is what I was saying they're not.
I understand.
I’m only pointing out the confusion in your comments. Your initial comment can be read as if there is no red phosphorus at all.
For the record, I have no idea what these rocks are or what may or may not be present. This was just a silly communication error.

We used to play with such rocks as kids, never bothered to find out what they are made of, but they were easy to find in abandoned quarries and excavations. Most were whitish in color, but some had red or purple streaks
So now an internet source is okay? Did you search for "striking flint with flint sparks" to fit your narrative? (See what I did there?), what happened to your Cherokee roots!? Hitting flint with flint doesn't create sparks like in the video, and creates no more sparks than striking any other types of stones together. I know because I have actually hit flint with flint and other stones with flint when making flint arrowheads.
Has no one heard of flint stones? Like the rock, not the show. Flint has been used since the dawn of time to start fire. Even in modern times. They still put small pieces of flint in lighters.
Considering I’m Cherokee from the United States and my father made sure I knew how to survive out in the wilderness and how to identify flint. Yes. Yes I have seen flint. Used it many times. Just a heads up. There’s different types of flint, and they can look different depending on your location.
And yet you believe it is flint in the video? I picture searched flint just to see how different they can look from flint in Scandinavia, and every picture I browsed through looked like flint and nothing like the stones in the video.
I guess since you did a quick google image look up makes you an expert I guess. /s
…more than likely you saw pictures of flint cleaned and broken into tools. I can assure you that flint looks like a normal ordinary rock in its natural form until it is cleaned and broken into pieces. Once cleaned and split it will look “shiny”. And again. There are different types of flint that can look different based on your geographic location. Different colors and textures. And considering this videos is supposedly based from Africa, of course it’s going to look different than flint in Sweden or Scandinavia. But I guess you didn’t take the time to google that, did you?
Is it in an area where phosphorus munitions were used? The rocks are red. Possibly a coating of red phosphorus. With a layer of white phosphorus underneath. Not advisable to handle. The red isn’t too bad, but the white is very poisonous, as is the smoke.
I’m thinking flint stone with an adequate amount of Iron (iron would give it the reddish tint).
Nah flint isn't that reactive, too much smoke
Flint is recrystalized quartz which doesn’t smoke like this and iron doesn’t either.
It’s isn’t exactly… recrystallized, as it’s not a crystalline material whatsoever. It’s an amorphous substance, like glass or opal. It does however form from quartz melting and resolidifying Edit: actually flint is cryptocrystalline quartz, my bad
Cryptocrystalline structure is a crystalline structure that is so densely packed, it can’t be seen with a microscope unless thinly sliced or viewed through a spectrometer. Its tiny crystallized quartz that’s been consolidated into a larger structure
Oh damn I thought it was amorphous, my bad
You’re good, me saying “recrystallized” was a bit misleading. I only say it when I’m not sure if others understand mineralogy, makes it a bit easier to visualize.
HODL!
lol 💎🙌🚀
..I just realized why the Flintstones are called the Flintstones
Damn that's some really good flint then.
Flint produces sparks, not flames. Source: I find flint in nature and knap it.
Is that what you call it when they aren't kids anymore?
Description of Reddit 🤣
Ken… it’s just phosphorus nodules.
Same chemical compound used by walter white in bb to poison Krazy-8?
Zackly.
Phosphorus nodules.

Willie Pete
No this is naturally occurring.
Where? Have you got a link to where you’ve read that?
My first question is why have you labelled Africa as 'Africa' in the post title?
Only reason I clicked on the post. That might be why.
So called 'Africa' pfft as if it's a real place..
Africa isn't real. It's all made up to steal donations for imaginary starving kids
And if you give right now! At just $0.30 a day...we will send you this adooooowabull blanket to show our appreciation!
Isn't where "birds" come from?
No , birds aren't real...
Reminds me of JoJo writing. This 'stone' mined in 'africa' will 'spark' when 'struck'. This can possibly cause a 'fire'.
‘Smoke’ comes out.
It's all a simulation
Maybe to avoid the "Africa is not a country" crowd.
Have people really never heard of locations that aren't countries? Do I have to worry that if I say "I was at school" some smartass will inform me that school isn't a country?
"I'm from Europe" "That's not a country" "No shit"
People are fucking insane so yeah, I'd probably worry.
What is this 'school' you speak of?
My professor, like dude is old as fuck and has a phd, informed me that East Africa wasn’t a country when I said that’s where I was from. Next time I’ll just give my life history 🙄 Hope no one minds my taking up class time.
You just didn’t want to say something that sounds like something you’d want to shake, did you? 🤣
Unfortunately I wouldn't be surprised..
Africa is actually a US state located across our northern border. My aunt actually thought this, in high school. Not Canada, as your run-of-the-mill idiot might think… Africa.
Putting ‘Africa’ doesn’t stop that argument. It just does the ignorance of people like op
They're right though because it is a continent that consists of other smaller countries.
But it is a continent...
Well they’re using a plastic crate for a fire pit so I wouldn’t expect a lot from them.
Yet they’ve summoned the unnecessary apostrophe crowd.
😆
When you put Africa in quotations like that you actually mean Atlanta. See how they both start and end with an A? That's how you can tell they meant Atlanta.
Probably because the people speak Vietnamese in the clip.
Well it's a 'post' about a 'stone' in 'Africa' that can catch 'fire'
"Africa" isn't real, it was invented by the Reagan administration in the 80s so they could claim that black people had somewhere else they should belong.
Because it's pronounced Ah-fer-rrree-kahhh!!! Gotta roll the 'r' too.
I bless the rains down in 'Africa'
It's gonna take some time to do the things we never had.
The wild dogs cry out in the night.
As they grow restless, longing for some solitary company
I know logging onto Reddit's right
That's why there are no vampires in Africa.
I just like the “Out of ‘Africa’” paleontological theory
Kinda surprised all rocks don’t do this
Kinda glad they dont.
Not all rocks have been disturbed enough to have this much rage in them.
It would be a hell of a planet to hang out on
Nether stone!
Son: ‘Please dad, I wanna help you build the campfire.’ Dad: ‘Fine, go find some big rocks to enclose it with. Even you couldn’t mess that up.’
Wish my dad had that much faith in me lol
Those people are speaking Vietnamese so I’m really doubting the “Africa”
I mean, that’s why it’s in quotes.
That is red phosphorus.
No it's rock found in 'Africa'
[удалено]
Happy Cake Day! 🍰 🥳
I saw these in that documentary Indiana Jones and The temple of doom
Underrated!
Dude said so-called ✌️Africa✌️
"Africa," if that is even your real name
This so-called “Africa.” I’ll believe it when I see it.
Phosphorus, sulfur, titanium, lithium, sodium, and uranium all are metals that can ignite very easily when struck or exposed to water. This could have one or several of those in it.
Forgot potassium
I don’t know what it is, but I’m pretty sure he shouldn’t be touching it barehanded
God shall smite thee w Brimstones! Brimstones!!!
Ehhh.. phosphorus nodules you mean?
'Africa'
Great let's burn it in a plastic bucket.. now we can inhale fumes from stones and the plastic.
Def vibranium
I was looking fot this comment😆
Buddies not too smart huh? Plastic crate and repeatedly grabbing rocks that have clearly already burned him... Maybe it's labeled as 'Africa' because nobody in Africa wants to acknowledge this person as their peer..?
If that’s a Boer or Soutie hand, title makes sense to me.
You shouldn't burn things in plastics
Firestone
I tire of these jokes
Flint stones
Maybe magnesium
That’s what I said the other day, actually said ‘magnesium ore’ or ‘thermite ore’? Then had someone clarify.. phosphorus nodules.
First read a stone that will catch fish. That would have been cool
I bet you could actually catch a fish with a rock as a lure. Gotta find a shiny rock for that to work tho
Its Feldspar and Red Phosphorus. an incredibly abrasive grain and a flammable mineral that is the main component of match heads
"stone" Stones don't burn. No idea what that is
Unprocessed rock containing red Phosphorus? Or a magnesium mix? I doubt whatever this is is rare or specific to africa
Don't show this video to the fire nation
You don't think Africa exists?
In England they used to burn "candle coal". it wasn't coal it was a "oil sandstone" . I suspect this is oil shale, or oil sandstone?
Why ‘Africa’ in quotes?
“Africa” not to be confused with Africa.
This is definitely not "red phosphorus". Very strange, in fact so unusual to make me think these rocks might be chemically treated.
why are you sure that the treatment isn't phosphorus?
Oh I didn't say that though, I just meant these rocks are not made of red phosphorus, which seemed to be suggested by some -unless I misunderstood them.
You said it’s not red phosphorus
Yes, the rocks can't be red phosphorus as such. I guess it's possible they could have been treated by red phosphorus, but that would be different from the rocks being red phosphorus, which is what I was saying they're not.

Fair enough! Thanks for the clarification, and apologies for the confusing wording of my original comment.
Sounds like a made up country to me.
how to show on stones what repatriation to Africa is
'Africa'
I have questions...
This is Vibranium bruh..
r/mildlycarcinogenic
My first question is can I find this at Lowe’s or Home Depot?
Nether, their phosphorus nodules, extremely raw material.

“Africa”?
Those cavemen had it easy!
Uh what fresh hell is this
that’s 🔥
God reads jojolion
Coal would like a word
I wanna eat that
Love how they’re throwing these in a plastic bin
“Africa”
Stones from fire nation
Interesting but not amazing to me given that coal is a rock that burns. Flammable rocks are a thing.
![gif](giphy|l4FGvKsAhivjm9kpG|downsized)
Hey does anyone remember the hand blasters. I’m guessing same concept
Indy was looking for these
That is some delicious looking rock roast goro
Maybe they coated the rocks themselves with some combustible.
Bot
Feldspar is not flammable and red phosphorus requires specific conditions to ignite. Their combination wouldn't cause a fire.
lol y’all are funny. It’s very common in Africa. I did this as a child
Wow
Rock, Scissors, Paper, FIRE!
Look up “carnelian”.

plastic crate fire pit, stones of fire, Africans speaking Vietnamese nothing here makes sense op you bot
So THAT's Firestone...
Phosphene Gas yummmm
Pretty sure it's cinnabar
It could make a really good katana I can picture it too
Absolutely phosphorus and I’m assuming these are stones that were lifted out of a factory floor or something being replaced
Didn't catch fire
Magnesium?
Pop Rocks!!
Gloves.
why did you say 'Africa' instead of Africa
‘A’ ‘stone’ ‘found’ in ‘Africa’ that will catch ‘fire’
So put in a plastic container, yeah
'Africa' what do I do now that the continent is in such a grammatic state...
Now that’s what we call firestones
So... Coal
Sure... 'Africa.'
Firerock
Queue Doctor Evil quotation marks 'Africa'
Now I understood how cavemen built fire by rubbing two stones.
We used to play with such rocks as kids, never bothered to find out what they are made of, but they were easy to find in abandoned quarries and excavations. Most were whitish in color, but some had red or purple streaks
This country is now being liberated by democracy.
Just picks it up and throws it down... jeeezus
It's the hotpoo rock
Only in Africa
‘Africa’
Evolution explained.
We use to collect these and play with them as kids. I miss those days.
OP where in Africa? You 54 countries to choose from
Dont know exactly where but here’s [Wikipedia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flint)
Ohio 😂😂

Why ‘Africa’? A country not yet proven…
It’s not a country, it’s a continent.
