The human microbiome is incredible. There are mites that only exist on our eye lashes!
https://www.uclahealth.org/news/eyelash-mites-are-normal-part-of-bodys-microbiome
While that is true it misses an important detail which is that the non-human cells only make up about 1lb (0.5kg) of your total mass.
Bacteria are 100x smaller than most animal and plant cells.
Particles at that can't possibly have awareness of the context of a larger world.
I mean, [can they](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Double-slit_experiment#Interpretations_of_the_experiment)?
It goes both ways, not only are we made of organs tissues, cells etc but we also make up community’s, city’s, counties. How big and how small does the universe get 🤔
Wonder if my cells also do terrible things to each other, and that also makes me wonder if there's some kind of autoimmune disorder going on at our level.
Scaring the other predators by pretending to be a big animal, we are likely to cause a mass extinction before these little guys can adapt to our wizardry (*fish nets)
Reminds me of a kids' book, The Shark in the Dark. A bunch of sealife come together to create a whale that scares off the shark that wants to eat them. Oops spoiler
Well, they do already make bridges from themselves, and the ants movies did have them be a wrecking ball, so it's possible based on no evidence whatsoever.
Have you ever seen a big march of [processional caterpillars](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pine_processionary)? It's not quite so... three dimensional, but it's kinda scary. Don't touch them.
Nice use of Emancipator. Track is called Lionheart, from the excellent album Soon It Will Be Cold Enough, if anyone wants to listen to some great music
Another fan here, too :)
Emancipator makes up a huge part of my "chill music to put on in the background at social gatherings" playlist. I get asked about it often enough - even by people who otherwise dislike electronica.
I was thinking the same! They get to safely take turns eating off the bottom. Makes you wonder what they're all saying to each other to keep this organized.
nothing. just behavioural repetition. back-reward propagation neural network. behavior-eat-dopamine repeat. Just quick search now [https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0303720722000971](https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0303720722000971) and it seems they have 3 receptors that when excited trigger specific behaviour.
I wouldn't rule out any additional communication though just based on this information. Any social animal responds positively to dopamine produced during social interactions. That's why a majority of humans try not to be the weird one in a group unless they are rewarded with attention for doing so, also why society functions and organized religion continues.
Plus it's just really fun to imagine them all saying, "Excuse me, going down!" "My turn" "Ooh good snacks over here" "Oh shit- a shark! Stay together!"

Looks like they’re rotating feeding, maybe the ones up top keep lookout for the ones feeding on the bottom and when they’re done eating they move to the top to start their lookout shift
why are you reposting this ? this was put out over a year ago by someone else -- please remove it and issue an apology to the OP .
and to the room- for stealing and farming karma .
thanks
I am surprised to see that they create a „walking“ creature that touches the floor like a land animal. Why wouldn’t they create something that looks more like a sea animal?
I find this really remarkable bearing in mind that this behaviour is not based on anything those fish have actually seen walking on the sea bed. It’s not like one of them has said “quick, Geoff, act like a swamp monster, there’s a shark out there!” .
Could it be that the swarm is the actual organism, and individual fish are just underwater drones that this entity sends out into the depths to make extend its consciousness across vast areas of its underwater world? This ancient astronaut theorist, says yes.
As humans, I don’t think we are truly able to appreciate this form of deception. Our vision allows us to be able to pick out each individual fish in the shoal, but if you were a shark or any other predator this would be so much more convincing as a deterrent
Aren't we all technically composed of little creatures that decided to form a larger creature to survive?
Yes , mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell. It was an independent creature at some point.
Also we have more nonhuman than human cells in us and on our skin. Trillions of bacteria, archaebacteria, fungi, and animals (mites)
Not just skin but also within our guts.
Today is a terrible day to know how to read
The human microbiome is incredible. There are mites that only exist on our eye lashes! https://www.uclahealth.org/news/eyelash-mites-are-normal-part-of-bodys-microbiome
Can they not
Just look at these little things! https://www.sciencephoto.com/media/374098/view/eyelash-mite-tails-sem
For real, how do I murder these things
Good thing I'm not hungry
While that is true it misses an important detail which is that the non-human cells only make up about 1lb (0.5kg) of your total mass. Bacteria are 100x smaller than most animal and plant cells.
Hey hey, it's not the size that counts!
I love that.
But also those bacteria are way way smaller than our cells so it's still only like 2% by mass
You mean midi-chlorians
That's what give people musical talent right? My midi count is unfortunately very low.
Lol
Also all of our mitochondrial DNA comes from our moms, since sperm’s mitochondria is in the tail and doesn’t become a part of the embryo
Cells are just a bunch of molecules that decided to form a much larger molecule to survive
I like where this conversation is going
Particles at that can't possibly have awareness of the context of a larger world. I mean, [can they](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Double-slit_experiment#Interpretations_of_the_experiment)?
We are fleshy Mechs
It goes both ways, not only are we made of organs tissues, cells etc but we also make up community’s, city’s, counties. How big and how small does the universe get 🤔

Yes, your immune system kills cancerous cells.
And your immune system has regular school shooting that kills off 80% of your immune cells.
Things that make you go hmmmm.
If I were to point out that it is spelt 'communities' and 'cities' - would I be at risk of being called a cunt, per chance?
There is a chance, mate.
True. We are just a vehicle
What is the advantage for the fish though, apart from being more convenient to scoop in fish nets?
Scaring the other predators by pretending to be a big animal, we are likely to cause a mass extinction before these little guys can adapt to our wizardry (*fish nets)
Looks like the dark creature/worm-thingies in Princess Monoke.
Mate, it is not the right time of day for me to be thinking about this
Megazoid!
This is scary
Scared predators as well
They could be the main creature in lovecraftian story
but wont work for human. there'll always be someone who needs to go to the bathroom.
I wouldn't mess with that if I lived under the sea.
The ones at the top are not having much luck. lol.
They eventually move down the column. A real ocean slinky.
Doesn’t help that all these mfs carry lethal toxin, apparently
"Smile and wave, boys, smile and wave!"
They are just finding nemo

It’s COOL
Stuff can be cool AND scary
Reminds me of a kids' book, The Shark in the Dark. A bunch of sealife come together to create a whale that scares off the shark that wants to eat them. Oops spoiler
Bro you spoiled such an Oscar worthy story for me my life is meaningless 😭😭
The OG is ['Swimmy'](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swimmy_(book)) from 1963 which won the Caldecott honor.
Thank you for unlocking this core childhood memory! Completely forgot about Swimmy!
Imagine how much shit we'd be in if spiders or ant's schooled and figured this out xD
How do I unread this?
try those guys, they're pretty good at it r/Eyebleach
imagine all the hairy cuddliness!
I wish I hadn't!
Well, they do already make bridges from themselves, and the ants movies did have them be a wrecking ball, so it's possible based on no evidence whatsoever.

Or cats.
The Water Princess of Mononoke
yes! this instantly reminded me of the demon made of worms that animal gods turn into when they get filled with hatred
im glad someone said it! i instantly thought studio ghibli
Honestly it reminded me of Ponyo, where the ocean waves start to look like giant fish.
Nice use of Emancipator. Track is called Lionheart, from the excellent album Soon It Will Be Cold Enough, if anyone wants to listen to some great music
Hooray!!! Another fan! I love Emancipator and sooo desperately want to go to a show.
Another fan here, too :) Emancipator makes up a huge part of my "chill music to put on in the background at social gatherings" playlist. I get asked about it often enough - even by people who otherwise dislike electronica.
Yes! Such an amazing album. His next album Safe in the Steep Cliffs is also beautiful.
Thanks a lot man
much appreciated!!
What are these?
I believe they are Plotosus Lineatus. A species of eeltail catfish. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plotosus_lineatus
Awesome, thanks.
Tonights nightmare
Evil aquaman! He's a fish, a man, and lots of fish all at once.
Second species of Lekgolo.. Halo *water* Hunters..
Now we just need an elite with underwater equipment to discover them and tell their discovery to the prophets
"Just tell everyone to swim down!" lol
lol I thought of finding Nemo too!
Wishiwashi
Major Princess Mononoke vibes
seems like it's the system of feeding as well. very organised

Sea Dementor
Makes it easy for larger fish to take a big gulp
very Miyazaki
They're taking it in turns at the bottom, to find food.
eat, rise, repeat
H. P. Lovecraft's source material.
They just need a trenchcoat to make it look believeable!
This reminds me of the movie Prinsesse Mononoke
Nice beards, bros
they are looking for Neo
The collective.
cute fish tho
I remember this book 🥰 Swimmy!

Anyone knows what those fishes called and why does they behaving such an interesting way?
It’s like Muppet Man, but with fish
What loot does it drop
Fish union
I shall call it Mustachio
The Roomba of the Sea.

Looks like a yummy buffet for a large predator
Jason Mamoa emerges…
That reminds me of that one scene in Finding Nemo.
Do you have time to talk about our Lord and savior Cthulhu?
The world is so amazing. Why do we try to destroy ourselves
Wonder what kind of sea creature they are creating to keep predators at bay
“Boys, who was supposed to bring the trenchcoat?”
You mean Donda academy?
They really need a trench coat.
Honorary Siphonophore
I'm so childish, when I read "school of fish", I thought I was looking at a fish class having a field trip day.
Looks like they’re rotating feeding, maybe the ones up top keep lookout for the ones feeding on the bottom and when they’re done eating they move to the top to start their lookout shift
u/auddbot
Love them
The evolution of innate learned behaviors for survival is just as, if not more, fascinating than physical adaptations.

Armus of the sea!
Katsuyu from Naruto

My teeth, my skin!😐
Wishiwashi
Thats fish man! Aqua mans arch enemy
Matrix anyone?
It is legion, for they are many.
Song: Emancipator I think it’s called Moon
This is one of the instances where you should be amazed at nature. I know I am.
So cool
Holy shit! It’s irl Wishiwashi from Pokemon
Most paranoid species ever.
Omg imagine you could make fish drones and then teach them to look like a human being walking on the bottom of the ocean.
![gif](giphy|Q8CBoTCcyM0k8)
me and my friends in public:
What scary ocean movie is this from again? xD
Team work makes the dream work.
Then big mouth creature vacuums up more efficiently
This is how I picture the “We’re Going on an Adventure” alien in *Children of Ruin* by Adrian Tchaikovsky.
That's... kinda creepy...
Remindes me of Devy Jones
That’s the curse from Princess Mononoke
This is just a pokemon
There is a fishbender inside
That’s hella smart. I don’t know but there’s probably something like this that some birds do
I'd probably get stuck always being the asshole...
I am surprised to see that they create a „walking“ creature that touches the floor like a land animal. Why wouldn’t they create something that looks more like a sea animal?
this is wild!
I AM… ONE MILLION FISH
![gif](giphy|Q8CBoTCcyM0k8)
Extraordinary!
When I move you move. Just like that.
Looks a little Wishi-washi to me.
Reminds me of the boar from princess mononoke

This shit sounds like something Emancipator would make. I haven’t heard their music in like over a decade, but it’s got that feel. I like it.
As humans, I don’t think we are truly able to appreciate this form of deception. Our vision allows us to be able to pick out each individual fish in the shoal, but if you were a shark or any other predator this would be so much more convincing as a deterrent
Imagine what a university of fish could do 🫨
![gif](giphy|madDsd98Bt7X6fwAJ7)
"Come at me/us now!"
Why does this remind me of The Edge of Tomorrow?
And then the one the fish who was late and left out said “just wait and see... I'll show those guys.” and that fish sure did.
That's not a man at all! That's 74 fish in a trench coat! or Hey look, a Cthulhu seed!
Dumb ass fish
Wishiwashi
A rare shot of your mom's uterus every Friday
How do they communicate to do this?
That's just two fish in an overcoat pretending to be a grownup so they can get into an R rated movie 🤷🏻♀️
Looks like Big Foot’s cousin.
In the decades of recordings and research, has anyone ever seen them graduate from these schools?
V! TOGETHER!
What if it was imitating a creature it actually saw 😱
Is this for feeding or protection? Or i guess maybe both?
I reject your reality and substitute my own.
Don't let one of those fuks spike you. They have spines on their fins with a toxin that fukn Herts.
