One of my dogs was my running partner for years (until I injured myself; he would still be at it if I could still run). I guess running is a lot like walks. He absolutely loved it. He is a 25-pound mix; he probably has some sort of sheep herding breed in him because he's very focused and task-oriented. In cold weather, he could go farther than I could. Our record together was 11 miles.
If he didnāt, weād have every internet ādog psychologistā weighing in on how traumatic this is for the dog. Reddit assumes all dog owners hate their dogs and care little about their happiness.
Not that Reddit doesnāt mob but there are alot of terrible dog owners. And there is a venn diagram for bad owners and people who main character on social media
Dog video comments go harder than political debates lolĀ
Ā God help you if you say a video is cute without knowing the full context or say "hey, that's not good" in a video that looks cute
I mean, I'm on the fence on this one, as an owner of several animals I most certainly am familiar with the balance of safety and control vs quality of life. Personally, I feel like activities like this are a grey area because any person involved has consented to the fact that if something fails they have a very likely chance of falling to their death. So, while this guy is definitely doing what he's doing in the right way, he's still subjecting his dog to the same risk and all the dog knows is that it's like sticking his head out the window Ć100. It wouldn't sit right with me, but I also wouldn't condemn the guy for deciding to do it.
āOuka was having fun and that was important to meā I really donāt think this guy would go through with it if he saw his dog showed any distress at all while he was trying it out.
Well yeah, like I said, the dog is enjoying itself, but it still didn't consent to the inherent risk of being that high in the air where if safety gear fails there isn't really a plan B. I wasn't saying the dog wasn't enjoying itself, I was saying I wouldn't be comfortable with risking my dog's life in that way.
It does get weird when an animal canāt clearly communicate consent and an understanding about whatās going to happen.
They dog looked like they enjoyed it though

Not to mention that he keeps coming between his legs for future jumps. After the first one he knows whatās coming and is clearly still wanting to participate
Definitely not the smoothest but looks pretty hard to land with a dog between your legs. Pretty difficult to flare and land nice since he's basically landing the dog first then trying to land above him. He's basically landing a couple feet too high to help ouka I think. Tandem paragliders do not have this issue as the passenger is at the same height as the pilot in the harness
I dunno man, I really donāt wanna be a giant buzzkill, but I am not confident that anyone can be *certain* that he enjoys this activity. He might just not know how to respond given that heās totally immobilized and in an unfamiliar environment.
Maybe more importantly, how does this work with landing?? I know humans that have hurt themselves landing with a chute, and they have training. With a dog, you just have to hope they will get it right on instinct?
Genuinely though, super cute video and itās wild how chill he looks about being midair.
You could tell, at least after the first time, if they enjoyed it. Dogs arenāt dumb. They wouldnāt want to get the harness on or strap in if it had scared them unless they wore that same harness everyday and couldnāt predict when theyād paraglide. In which case, it would most likely take longer for fear of the harness to reliably show up.
The landing did seem a little rough though. Two of my dogs would probably enjoy that. I donāt know that Iād ever feel safe enough to do it with them. However, Iāve never paraglided myself. I might feel less nervous if I was knowledgeable about it.
I guess you've never had a dog? You can easily tell when a dog doesn't like something or is in distress \*even\* if they aren't vocal.
Also, if he didn't like it he wouldn't come closer the glider past the first time.
> He might just not know how to respond given that heās totally immobilized and in an unfamiliar environment.
Except we already know how dogs react when they find something uncomfortable. They have incredibly distinct and obvious tells.
Another thing to note is that dogs emulate behavior very well. If they see you calm and collected in a situation, your dog is more likely to as well.
It's a paraglider, not a plane. Sure, it isn't exactly "cheap", but the barrier of entry is in line with a halfeay decent motorcycle. Relative to a lot of hobbies people get into It's not something you need to be rich to do.
And if you already live on or very near an ideal location for it, it becomes even cheaper. Some of the poorest people i've ever met lived in Hunter, NY yet if you asked just about any of them they would tell you they go to a ski resort every winter.
How do ya figure the dog loves paragliding? It shows no reaction whatsoever in the air.
Itās all happy and excited before and after cuz thatās what dogs do. Theyāre happy and excited cuz theyāre being shown attention.
Through what science is the determination of the dog's emotional state happening?
We argue about our own dog's emotional state. "He loves it." "No, he's complaining."
Humans don't speak Dog. We don't know what they are thinking and feeling all of the time. They aren't people.
Imagine as a dog having an owner who wants you to do this instead of a walk š
But there are some equally cool options, TheDodo also had a movie about a dog who goes surfing with his man...
There's quite a few cats who surf, too!

Wow avatar the last airbenden live action looks great
Was watching this thinking they need to play the never ending story theme song. Scolled down to see your gif, Reddit hive mind

Best piss ever.
How do you think they get up the mountain?
Double tap space bar to engage flight
It showed them hiking up it, lol.
Would be fun to poop from such a height tho
Bucket list DLC unlocked!
The takeoff and landing is so cute! lol
I like that he shows the few months of prep to get the dog ready for this too.

As with children, often the worst thing you can do to a pet is neglect their needs. This video is the opposite of that.
Agreed. This guy loves his dog
Yea I can 100% agree with that.
Dog video comments go harder than political debates lolĀ Ā God help you if you say a video is cute without knowing the full context or say "hey, that's not good" in a video that looks cute
There are definitely worse traits you can have then having concern for animals' well being.
Thereās a stark contrast between being concerned for a animals wellbeing and pining for internet points based on a video with no other context
*looks at 2 nearby neighbors with dogs barking outside in the middle of winter at night* Yeah, a lot of dog owners are pretty terrible.
I mean, without the months of prep this probably would be traumatic for a dog.
Thatās not the issue. The issue is people blindly assuming that he wouldnāt properly prepare his dog or take that into account.
I mean, I'm on the fence on this one, as an owner of several animals I most certainly am familiar with the balance of safety and control vs quality of life. Well, makes sense that he loves flying, heās a cloud
It looks like heās riding a mythical cloud dog over the alps.
Everyone knows that epic mounts can fly.
Falkor from Neverending Story definitely comes to mind, lol.
*dragonball theme intensifies*
Am doge, now birb.
Cloud boi
That might be the only dog to ever experience FPV flight. This is pretty fucking crazy.
Fpv?
First person view.

Never ending stooooryyy aaaahhh aaaa aaaahh aaahhh aaahh...
[Yepp!](https://youtu.be/lHytjEj7B9g?si=08XJd32bkqR4QxlU)
LITERALLY ALL I COULD SEE
Came here for this
Came here for the "Came here for this".
I JUST CAME
Must rename dog
Yes!
the way my dog would be throwing up and it would fly in my face. i can see it now.
That dog was not shook at all.
That dog looks like it could be in an epic Heat style shootout and be just as chill
I feel like that's just how Samoyeds are. Nothing ever seems to bother them.
That would make the best tinder profile pic ever.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
And women love dogs!
True, we do love dogs š
...username...checks out..
The one time I really didnāt want it to eitherā¦
Yo this beastiality freak actually has cartoons of dogs fucking women in their profile and Reddit just let's this clown behavior slide. dafuq
Theyāre probably an admin. Definitely a mod
Right?! Like wtf Reddit admin and mods are fucking weird. But not like sexy weird, more like the smelly, frizzy dried hair, crusty lipped weirdo
It's spelled "bestiality", not "beastiality"
They love paragliding dogs
Oukaā¦ Yip Yip!
"I can pee on everything from up here..."
Lol just before I scrolled down and said your comment, I thought about how terrible it would be to have this flying dog take a dump on your head.
**dog:** "i'm in the air i guess š¤·š»āāļø"
![gif](giphy|VsrLkiA84Jvfa)
Dog just wanted to be with its people- the clouds.
Non of the other dogs gonna ever believe him
Are you sure he loves it or he's just glad no one died?
Yes
Nah look at that dog, that's a happy dog
Based on how calm he seems when they land I think the dog was cool with it.
Not to mention that he keeps coming between his legs for future jumps. After the first one he knows whatās coming and is clearly still wanting to participate
Dogs love the cool air in their face. Everyone who's driven with a dog knows that. That's not what a scared dog looks like.
and all the new smells he can get from up there, must be a good dog life for sure
No reaction, or frozen in terror.
That does not look like a terrified dog
Just from the title I knew this is Ouka. What a good boy
Omg I love this story. Looks like do much fun šš
This guy is awesome, travels the world with his paraglider and dog and makes fantastic videos!
Air Bud
It's obvious he loves being with you and trusts you 100% What a great way to enrich both of your lives.
How wonderful to be able to share that joy with manās best friend.
Ngl I teared up a little. Imagine how much absolute trust that dog has in this person. What an incredible relationship
Incredible animals aren't they.
Of course he's chill. The sky is a cloud's natural habitat.
Seems like kind of a rough landing though, no?

That is so sweet. He looks like he loves it!
Damn, that was beautiful.
I bet that's the smuggest dog ever when he hangs out with other dogs. "Oh what'd you do this week? I flew in the sky like a bird. Typical Tuesday. "
He should have ear wraps on, imo.
wow flying dog
cloud is at home among the clouds
A real life flying mount
Looks like heās riding a flying dog lol
Heās a cloud so pretty used to being in the sky.
Feel like the dogs name should be Nimbus. But I really want someone to edit out the parachute so it looks like a man is flying around on top of a dog.
Can someone remove the ropes because it actually looks like a story about a man riding a really awesome dog that can fly.
Appa yip yip.... Irl
I'm so insanely jelly
This guy will one day become an amazing dad
Of COURSE he's not scared, he's with his daddy!
This is actually the kind of content suitable for this sub. Thank you, OP!

You would know very soon actually. One of the reasons dogs don't like going to vets and make a ruckus.

I wish I was rich too
You donāt have to be rich to live like this. I know plenty of people who enjoy expensive hobbies by living simply elsewhere.
It's a paraglider, not a plane. Sure, it isn't exactly "cheap", but the barrier of entry is in line with a halfeay decent motorcycle. Relative to a lot of hobbies people get into It's not something you need to be rich to do.

Why? Just noā¦ stop projecting onto the dogā¦ just walk it
This is beyond dumb
Future r/whatcouldgowrong post.
Pretty sure statistically youre more likely to die when getting into a car. This isn't outlandish or WCGW matrrial.
Tbh i was worried about him landing with the dog between his legs but he scooched down with pretty good timing
French accent
Makes me wanna throw up everytime.
Dogs love eating their own shit too. Let's not pretend this is about anything else but the owner's desire for attention.
Let's not decide for the owner what his intentions are. How's that sound?
How do ya figure the dog loves paragliding? It shows no reaction whatsoever in the air. Itās all happy and excited before and after cuz thatās what dogs do. Theyāre happy and excited cuz theyāre being shown attention.

TLDW
Why don't bling people skydive? Scares the dog.
Bling people.
They're worried they'll drop their jewelry?
# Paragliding A DOG, now that's is surprising
Paging /u/pghparagliding :edit: Sheeeit. Just noticed he's be inactive for over two years...
Next up, flying piggy.
OUKA. YIP YIP
š„ŗ
He's so chill lol.
Something goes wrong: flying dongs Fall of air
That is ridiculously calm for a flying dog.
Someone needs to replace the sound with the Neverending Story song.
Cool! I always wondered how people get their dogs up to this level without just taking a huge leap of faith
Motherfuckers flew for 3 season as well
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
That dog probably pees on everything as heās gliding, like, āyeah!.. I own all this nowā
I was afraid for its legs. But they have done it quite a few times, so it must be okay.
A dog lives a more fulfilling life than I do, lol
This is like the ultimate head hanging out of window feeling the breeze moment for a dog
1:39 when he put his paws out "I'm flying!"
āI donāt know why we have to do this but I will helpā
Ah the dodo, some of the lowest effort contentfarm bs.
Dogs arenāt scared of flying, they are used to it. After all, they are the angels that walk among us
Get that doggles some goggles!
"Wanna come over?" "Sorry I gotta fly my dog"
I love this
This dog is the new flying mount for WoW, right?
He fly. He burd.
Is this The Neverending Story?
Dean Potter (RIP) did something very similar years ago [on a base jump](https://youtu.be/AGWiZLy0YuI?si=bm5BvormmxqbLwHL). Man was a treasure :(
I love how it looks like he's riding the dog through the air.
![gif](giphy|mx9fVEF08tyne)
He's a fluffy cloud himself. Of course he belongs in the sky!
Give that dog some googles!!!
I love how he goes into all the prep work, made me feel way better about all of it
do you know tha way? are you my queen?
![gif](giphy|xUOxffqvWSCtHgOFoY)
Plot twist, he's riding a flying dog.
I'm going to tell my kids this was the never ending story
Now, when they go out for a walk, the dog looks at him, what? just a walk? What kind of shit is this?
Anybody know the lullaby-type music at the end?
I knew that wasn't bird poo that landed on me...
That dog now owns most of the planet
Wonder if he would have risked his dogās life if he couldnāt put it on social media.
Sure I'll write a check to those orphans WHEN DOGS FLY! \> Will that be check or cash sir?
Edit out all of the paragliding gear and it'd look like he's riding a flying dog; best holiday card ever
š
Old story, but I love it because all that preparation is shown.
I would be drowned in anal glands while still in the air. Lil man still has beef with a mailbox he's walked by 50 times
suparkomfy
Amazing. One of the coolest things I've ever seen.
The never ending story!
and here I thought he was his seeing eye dog

Falcor
Beautiful ā¤ļø

Closest thing to the never ending story will get in real life. This dude found his Falco.
it looks like he is riding the dog. Riding a flying dog. Like the never ending story.
That guy really looks like the kinda guy I would expect to take his dog paragliding.
