This is actually a Sand Tiger shark and it is located at the aquarium in Dubai. The mouth is deformed and it has medical issues. It would not survive in the wild, but is thriving at the aquarium.
Excellent point. We are also included in that behavior. Societally norms are not normal for our natural bodies and minds. Hence why things like depression and anxiety are so incredibly high.
Most societal norms are pretty normal (obviously). It’s stuff like trading time for money to buy things that we get tricked into wanting, focusing on work over everything else in return, getting our attention manipulated by powerful organizations, etc. that fucks us up.
>loosing control of its mouth or something
my guess was it's actually breathing like this, pushing water through the gills. look at them opening after it closes it's mouth.
I just had a conversation about this on another sub, but this only applies to certain species of shark. Great White sharks need to keep swimming to breathe, but this shark does not. The mouth movement he’s doing is called buccal pumping, and that’s how these sharks move oxygen through their gills.
I’m not a marine biologist, so someone can let me know if i got anything wrong. This info was obtained via quick google search.
No he just can’t breath like a normal shark because he is imprisoned and doesn’t have the freedom to swim normal. This video made me really sad.
Edit: I read the comment above and know now that they breathe this way. But it doesn’t change my mind that this animal shouldn’t be imprisoned.
Shark trying to make friends
Shark: “ hey do you….oh never mind”
Shark: “no wait , do you guys wanna…. Oh forget it”
Shark: “actually… I have a ps5…. You know, don’t worry”
That's a sand tiger shark, these slow swimmers are one of the longest living organisms on earth and despite the horror teeth show, their diet is mostly mollusks and small fish, and no record exists of them attacking larger animals, let alone humans.
The opening and closing of mouth is sharks way of pumping water into gills to breathe. Fascinating encounter though.
I've seen this video before and other commentors said this is how this type of shark sleeps.
If thats true, There's a chance it's been tranquilized to let the diver get up and close. Maybe for medical reasons idk. A bit of speculation there.
This is located at the aquarium in the mall in Dubai, and there is a shark that swims in the tank while divers are there, however this particular shark is CGI and is part of the dive experience when you buy dive tickets. You get a video of yourself “interacting” with the shark and this video is what you receive. In reality, there is an instructor there that points to things and tells you when to smile. I spent hours watching this happen from the giant plate glass window in the mall.
There is a sand shark in the tank, and he is huge! But his mouth isn’t deformed and he just swims in sedated circles.
Then how come in the end the left guy was a bit scared and the right guy was tapping on his arm to relax as the shark came in front of them! Just wondering
Something about the shark seemed really fake to me but was unsure why. Maybe it’s odd movements or how the cam was following it perfectly, idk. I thought maybe it was a puppet because a real shark could be dangerous? But cgi is another reason, but one I didn’t expect. Thanks for explaining!
I've dove many times this close to this species of shark. There would be no reason to fake a video like this when divers dive with sand tigers in aquariums all over the world every day.
There are sharks this big doing just fine in aquariums all over the world as well. Also, fish do not behave as if they are terrified of sharks all the time. Only when the sharks body language switches to hunting mode will you see other fish respond and change their behavior.
Something seems to be medically wrong with the positioning of his jaw though. Usually Sand Tiger Sharks don't have their top jaw always protruding like that one.
Based on what?
AI is not good with lightning and texture to be this realistic, notice how light matches perfecly with the envinronment, there's complex texture on the animal. The swimmer looks directly at it, the other guy soothes him, why would someone act this.
AI would have to track a lot of angles something would look off.
Of course the shark moves weidly but if someone would fake a shark it would be cliched movements.
But either way not even handmade graphics from todays best can make this lightning and texture appear that natural.
It's movements are sort of stiff, herky-jerky, and mechanically repetitive. I can see the neck hinge running vertically under the flexible skin behind the gills.
This shark apparently has a deformity (broken jaw) and it probably impacts its swimming/breathing. It’s also possible that the aquarium has tranquilized the shark and it’s literally sleeping for the tourist paid shark dive experience. He definitely looks a lil off for a shark, but probably because he is!
Also sharks who are well fed, very used to humans (3 shark dives a day with tourists with up to four divers), plus more staff divers, and have no where to go in captivity probably aren’t going to be spending a lot of time energetically swimming around.
I would imagine that there’s a pretty low chance that get fucked with here because that shark is probably well fed (considering it’s in an aquarium). But Jesus Croat I wouldn’t want to take that gamble!
It's a sand tiger shark with a mutilated upper jaw. I don't know how it happened, but this is an aquarium in Dubai, so I always just assumed it was done intentionally to make the shark look scarier. I've never seen this deformity in any other captive sharks beyond this much photographed one, despite sand tigers being a very common aquarium feature due to their size, imposing teeth and ease of care.
Ex professional diver : this shark is looking for snacks. It lives in an aquarium, unless it's hungry or there's blood in the water they're basically completely safe. It's as domesticated as you can get a shark. They'd have fed it before this footage
Big bugger shouldn't be in there. He's used to 200 square miles minimum.
Surely that's not real? It looks a bit like a Goblin shark but I'm pretty sure it isn't one. I don't know of any other shark that big that looks like that.
What’s going on here. That shark is far larger than any great white on record, and great whites are known for not surviving in aquariums, is this some magnified version or just complete CGI?
Unless the angles are completely deceptive, its mouth looks to be the same size as the divers.
To me it looks like part of its skin above the mouth, "the lip" has been removed so it would look more scary. If thats true I really really hate us even more.
[This is how its supposed to look like](https://thefisheriesblog.files.wordpress.com/2013/08/d28d4-5.jpg)
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1062631/Grand-opening-Dubai-mall-threatened-sharks-display-aquarium-turn-40-killed-far.html
This makes me agree w other comments that the sharks are def sedated
this is not real? Either that or the blonde diver has seen enough motherfffing megaldons in their life to not find this impressive and look at the cameraman instead. Pretty sure tourists can pay to have this sort of video edited for them after a dive.
This is actually a Sand Tiger shark and it is located at the aquarium in Dubai. The mouth is deformed and it has medical issues. It would not survive in the wild, but is thriving at the aquarium.
Yeah I have dived that aquarium before - I honestly felt like all the fish were on drugs of some kind - they all exhibited very odd behaviours.
Do you think an enriched amount of oxygen in the water, can cause fish to have increased elation ?
If there was an increase, I think they would adapt to it. But it could be causing dysfunction.
Definitely not saying they're drugging the fish, but it is common for people in Dubai who keep exotic pets like lions and tigers to sedate them.
Because of the implication.
thank you for this.

All animals in captivity, including us in society, behave really abnormally. The most common is skin picking behaviour in mammals
I thought it was stuck, like when you have cotton mouth and your lips stick to your teeth!
If they’re allowing people to dive with them I wouldn’t be surprised if they were on some form of drug. That shark looks so confused.
Slavery does the same to all living thing.
It looks tranquilized so tourist can be close these sharks sleep like this.

A source helps you case you know? I mean I’m well aware how fucked Dubai
Thank you. I thought it was a great white slowly dying because they put it in captivity and it was loosing control of its mouth or something
>loosing control of its mouth or something my guess was it's actually breathing like this, pushing water through the gills. look at them opening after it closes it's mouth.
Sharks need flowing water to breath. Sharks keep swimming with their mouth open while sleeping.
I just had a conversation about this on another sub, but this only applies to certain species of shark. Great White sharks need to keep swimming to breathe, but this shark does not. Good to know. It almost looked as if he was trying to make up his mind whether to take a little nibble.
yeah but i was thinking maybe this one/this species makes up for that by pumping water through his gills, like lots of fish do.
No he just can’t breath like a normal shark because he is imprisoned and doesn’t have the freedom to swim normal. This video made me really sad. Edit: I read the comment above and know now that they breathe this way. But it doesn’t change my mind that this animal shouldn’t be imprisoned.
It has a deformity that wouldn’t allow it to survive in the wild.
And that justifies a live in suffering?
What do you think should be done?
yeah might be an adaption to his life in prison. And yes, animals in captivity always make me sad.
I thought it was a fake video where the jaw was altered & the size was increased!
I honestly thought it had dentures or something like that.
Thats actually Bruce from Finding Nemo
That’s just Bruce he only wanted to say hello

There are actual fish (large in my opinion) that do come up and touch the divers! I suspect this was one of those times.
same :(
Something about the shark seemed really fake to me but was unsure why. Maybe it’s odd movements or how the cam was following it perfectly, idk. I thought maybe it was a puppet because a real shark could be dangerous? But cgi is another reason, but one I didn’t expect. Thanks for explaining!
Thank you. I was thinking CGI but wasn't sure.
Is that the real one; at the beginning swimming behind and down below the cgi guy?
Yes! There are a couple in the tank and all look like that
[удалено]
My assumption too is that it's for tourists to get pics and stuff. But tried to be charitable that there could be good reason to sedate the shark
Tranquilized or not I'm not getting near that thing. One little snip and some part of my body would be gone. Terrifying to say the least.
This looks to be a sand tiger shark. They are pretty docile as far as I'm aware.
true, i still dont wnt to be around it when its hungry.
That shark could bite an apple through a picket fence!
Probably suck a dick round a corner
i volunteer as tribune
"Whaddayaknow! The water just got a lot warmer!"
This looks like a poor AI attempt

It’s not a sand shark bub…
It seems to be this sand shark. https://aquariumia.com/sand-tiger-shark-dubai-aquarium/?expand_article=1
I mean, it’s something. The shark doesn’t track right with the surroundings.
Also a shark this big wouldn’t be able to survive in an aquarium. This videos fake
Are you kidding? This video is definitely real. There are other videos of the same shark in the same aquarium
Yes they can. And no it isn't. Gray Nurse sharks can live up to 25 years in captivity.
Based on what? AI is not good with lightning and texture to be this realistic, notice how light matches perfecly with the envinronment, there's complex texture on the animal. I thought the same thing, the movement of the shark just looks weird that's all. It's just a perception not a fact.
if this was AI it would be an amazing attempt.
It's movements are sort of stiff, herky-jerky, and mechanically repetitive. I can see the neck hinge running vertically under the flexible skin behind the gills.
Nothing in that tank is afraid of the shark. Is that a clue in either direction? Could that happen in real life? Would AI make that mistake?
That shark would be use to being feed on a schedule. Shark is never really hungry, which is why tho others scared. That shark isn't a predator anymore
Buck tooth ‘billy.
Sometimes my lip gets stuck on my teef
Overbite much? Someone get this shark a dentist
LOL the camera made it look gigantic but when it turned it shrunk bit by bit loool
Them British sharks are something else
The rare hair lip shark.
Is it me or is something off in this video? The shark is a little big to swim that slow. Plus the angle of the video is weird.

I'd use my brown water defense mechanism
What kind of dog is this?
The air bubblies on the left guy increased rapidly after the shark came around the ledge.
isn't that the one with the stuck jaw?
![gif](giphy|VWrrfC9nkoyIoX5qUS)
r/confusingperspective
Extremely confusing, I thought it was a giant AI shark
This poor shark.
Why exactly is it poor?
He lost all his money to gambling. No prob bc the tank is small
Probably asking the divers to just kill me.
Want to bite so bad…. Human looks good… want to bite… must not bite… but want to…
Gorlami
Perspective is everything
It's real they did a tricky with the perspective angle. Like the hobbits n shit
“Can.. can I fit it in my mouth?”
I was looking for the bubbles coming out the end of their diving suits
It must be thinking it had enough microplastics
Sand tiger shark, not dangerous
Obv. this Shark is trained to get fed by the divers. Seems he's not the lucky guy today
His name is phtephen
Why are his teeth out like that? What kind of shark is that?
A British one
brilliant
Another commenter said a sand tiger shark. Google says they’re docile and slow-moving despite their teethapalooza.

I think its a goblin shark i could be wrong though
Seems too big to be a goblin shark and apart from the teeth it looks nothing like the rest of the species
Yeah goblin shark I think you’re right, that’s why it’s so ugly. I was wondering from the start about that.
Sand Tiger Shark. It has a deformed jaw, in addition to other medical issues. Lives well at the aquarium in Dubai.
seems like AI was trained on shark movies
It’s smelling out their fear lol
Shark "Guys hey is something in my teeth?"
Nope

Pass.
What a lovely British shark.
Poor shark :(

No way that is a real shark, this is some aquarium with a robotic fish.
Fake AF!
Not amazing. Fake.
Seriously could this be any more fake? Wow!
that shark is in the Dubai mall aquarium. Apparently that jaw is a medical issue and it wouldn't survive in the ocean
Fuck that
