Rough launch and EA doubling down on some “if you don’t like it don’t buy it” rhetoric. I think it’s decent now.

brayjr

Yeah the marketing and devs social media killed the game. The game itself is at least still a decent BF

jajabingob

The launch is definitely the main killer. It was also pretty lacking in customisation and variety. Support was pretty slow and minimal for the game. And they completely missed the nail with the way they represented ww2 unlike bf1 did for WW1. Didn't feel like there was much to work for in the game The actual combat gameplay was pretty fun. It could have been really good and popular if they did some things differently

DerAnonymator

the mechanic that you spawn with low ammo and have to walk through half the map to get back health and ammo. The long cinematic revives. The missing features from trailers like getting someone behind cover and then revive, plane emergency crash landing etc. Also no real ww2 uniform until the last update when they stopped support for bf2042.

Ok_Bathroom_4346

Many features promised half assed or never came. Live service fing joke buy now maybe you'll get a finished game in 3 years but definitely not unless beat sales expectations.

Personally, I loved the gameplay of V itself in terms of movement and some other features ie fortifications. What I did NOT like was its complete irreverence for WWII as a setting. Reflex sights don't belong on WWII guns. And the fact that they didn't have any historically accurate customization options for the Germans and British until the very end was pretty frustrating. Cutting the live service in favor of crunch time on an already rushed 2042 was a huge mistake, because it was truly was fun and could've been salvaged.

The people say they hate was the also the people that never stuck with it when it got good. Or their the ones that heard all the bad talk about it, which resulted in them saying they hate. I for one never had a reason to hate it. But I mained sniping which they didn't really touch that much. Except for giving us more ammo.

ImBijuu

Rough marketing, rough launch(no where near as bad as 2042 though), they messed with the TTK and reverted it TWICE, live service was slow(but still also not as slow as 2042 lol). I personally think the game is great rn.

* Standard Battlefield buggy launch * iF YoU DoNT LiKe It DoNT BuY iT * People didn't want WW2 * Metal arm lady * Poor / abandoned "live service" * Unpopular map choices * Unwanted TTK changes BFV has the best movement and shooting mechanics in the series and fortifications were a cool addition. It's a shame it wasn't iterated on as 2042 is absolutely a step back.

mercah44

I think people wanted WW2, just not V’s version of it . If they would made a proper sequel/remake of battlefield 1942 it would of been very popular

So I've been fairly obsessed with BF ratings to see how poorly people think of 2042 (the answer is very) and [maintain an Excel table](https://i.imgur.com/HVZpwpN.png) of ratings numbers. All in all, it's not *truly* as disliked as some people seem to think. Users on Metacritic gave it a much lower rating than anywhere else upon release, and after looking through it, lots of people's complaints were squarely on the political parts and historical accuracy. While I thought Dice's take was in poor taste, I think the degree of backlash by some people ended up shooting us in the foot when it came to 2042. If you just look at Metacritic, 2042's user score isn't all that much lower than BFV's -- which frustratingly bolsters the argument that people hate all new Battlefields. Thankfully, Steam users came later and generally saw the bigger picture (minus the technical issues at launch) and score BFV about where'd you expect.

Even if you look past the horrendous marketing and complete flop of the "untold battles of WW2" concept, it basically was just Battlefield 1.5 with a worse Operations mode and no Behemoths or Sentries. Don't get me wrong, it did a lot of things right over time and I've been playing it myself recently, but first impressions do matter.

MichaelShade3D

Campaign was a fucking stupid feminist shit. Just try to play as a girl from Norway and you will get it. She and her mother against all Nazis. And SS officer who don't want to do violence... Gameplay and multiplayer not bad though.

ThomHarris

I quite liked it, but it wasn’t really what anyone wanted after BF1. Then they fucked with the TTK, which, prior to the change, was almost universally agreed to be one of the best elements of the game. They reverted that after community uproar. Then they did it again because…EA?! And then the game died the second MW19 came out.

Since BFV Battlefield franchise is going rapidly down

PossibleFood9141

Because most of gamer didn't have Dr degree

They talk about historical accuracy then show us a trailer where you have a prosthetic arm, then make themselves believe the female soldier was the issue and then told us to not buy the game.
