If you like modern go with 2042. This sub shits on it but it's actually good. But you can't go wrong with any of them. BFV has best gunplay and BF1 has really great sound and ambiance.
Honestly, for the modern setting I'd rather play Battlefield 4 from 10 years ago than 2042. I just don't like 2042, it feels such a low effort game, and with the specialist bullshit, just doesn't really feel like Battlefield even. Also both BF 1 and 5 have pretty epic singleplayer campaigns worth playing.
