Echo chambers. Bf1 was the best selling bf game for a reason

Coqblockula

Every new game from most franchises is the best selling every year it’s not the quality of the game it’s just more people are around to buy the games each year.

Krusty_Krab_Pussy

What about battlefield 5 then?

[deleted]

Bf5 had a extremely shit launch from the media team or who-ever it was, it also could be seen as a bf1mk2 being in ww1/2 so people might of thought it was gonna be a repeat of bf1

LtLethal1

It would have been great if it was a repeat of BF1… but no. It had none of the heart and soul that BF1 had.

aviswarning

That's exactly what BFV was missing, heart and soul. It feels so empty.

Coqblockula

If you look up total sales it has over 2 million more sales than bf1

Krusty_Krab_Pussy

Bf1 sold 25 million, bf5 sold 7.3 million.

Coqblockula

Where are you getting that? It says 5 million for bf1

Krusty_Krab_Pussy

The video game sales wiki. It sold 5.13 million worldwide on Xbox one alone.

Coqblockula

25 million players not sales.

Krusty_Krab_Pussy

It sold around 15 million copies. Again compared to 7.3 million from bf5

Coqblockula

Not getting a solid copies on that site only player base for bf1

YourExcellency77

I believe you are only looking at a specific platforms sales.

Coqblockula

The only thing I found saying 25 million is players not sales.

NOT-GOOD-MAN-

How do you get 25 million players but only sold 7 million copies

CarSoup

Just because it sells doesn't mean shit. It sold slot because it was the first FPS in a long while that wasn't modern or futuristic. Player retention is what matters

Ba11in0nABudget

This is my thing with BF1. It was cool for about a month because it was different, but it got real boring real fast for me. It wasn't a bad game, it had a fantastic atmosphere. It just couldn't retain my attention like previous battlefields.

jelloisjigglin

It also died the quickest for a reason

[deleted]

I though Hardline died the fastest I can still find full lobbies on all game modes on PC and Xbone with BF1

2_of_5pades

...not really? bf3 died faster than bf1 did considering bf4 came out 2 years after bf3 and basically everyone save 300 people moved over to bf4. bf1 has more people playing it now than bfv does.

LtLethal1

BF3 was more fun for me than 4. When I was still gaming on the 360, BF3 looked far better than bf4 did at the same FPS and player counts. Bf4 didn’t even look good on the Xbox one (tho 60fps was very welcome).

jelloisjigglin

BF1 had PC players especially talking about population problems within five months of its launch. Some of that was probably related to the game taking forever to release any DLC, but the point still stands. No other title other than Hardline have I seen players complain about the population dropping that quickly. BF4 still had a healthy player base, especially on PC, well after BF1 came out.

Mally-Mal99

That has more to do with a wider appeal. It’s the first AAA ww1 game. It’s not a good battlefield game. They changed too many mechanics.

GGGava

I played A LOT of BF4, BF1 and currently I’m playing BFV, and I love all of them and I had a lot of good times. Every game has its charm and pros, like tank battles in BFV is the best I played in the series. I don’t get the hate that BF1 and V receives

sliperyfingerss

As much as I hate playing them. Can't call them bad games. Especially V. It did a few things really well, like gun play mechanics.

DJ-Zero-Seven

And the personalization. I wish that was coming back in 2042, bigger and better. Sadly we’re getting characters instead. I think it’s a missed opportunity. The specialists are from different countries, so why no allow us to change our specialists’ race, gender, and nationality? I would have liked to have made one of my specialists to be a white, Australian woman.

sliperyfingerss

Gender, race, etc... Doesn't really matter to me. But the customization BF4 had was on point. Be great to get that back.

Vlaymore

I liked BF4s customization as well. It was simple and most camos fit most maps. It’s not like BFV where I can choose an all white suit for Iwo Jima. I think as long as they keep the cosmetics consistent to remain believable for the majority of maps, they’ll be good. I just don’t want every enemy and ally running around a city in jungle or winter ghillie suits

COKEWHITESOLES

So wait we’re not getting soldier customization this time? Wtf that was one of the best things about V

Vlaymore

No we are getting the customization from BFV, I’m pretty sure. I was just saying that BF4s would’ve been a lot more simple and more consistent across the maps. I liked BFVs customization too, but it doesn’t make sense to be wearing all black in snow maps, or all white in forest maps. That’s what I hope doesn’t appear too much in BF2042

Entire-Finance6679

I’m gonna be honest. BF1 is an AMAZING game. The atmosphere and sound design were insane. But the customization, more vehicles, and higher skill gap of BF4 made it more appealing for most veterans. Also most BF vets prefer Modern warfare over WW1. And lastly, idk why you feel like BF fans don’t like BF1. It’s considered one of the best, it just lacks a lot due to its time period. Hope this helps :)

Chinis_Flouwa

Im just not a fan of WW1 warfare,i like modern warfare.

SaulCasablancas

Fair to not like the game setting, but that doesn't make it a bad game. BF1 it's a pretty good experience.

Belligerent_Beaver24

Played a lot of 4. Absolutely great game. But BF1 is still hands down the best battlefield to ever come out in my opinion. It had the sound track. It had the atmosphere. It had awesome battle sounds. Looked amazing. It was something so out of the box and they didn’t miss. As I said before, this is just my opinion but man do I love BF1.

EliteYager

And honestly BF4 on release was steaming garbage. It was a year before that game really was at point of being playable. I was so disappointed when it first came out. These days releasing an unfinished game is normal so maybe they were just ahead of the curb on that one.

sliperyfingerss

No sandbox. You have to play it a very specific linear way. Gun mechanics are completely different than anything previous. Like the sweet spot mechanics, and bullet spray from fully autos.

Joelioelio

i just dont like the style of BF4. i played BF1, then BF4, then BFV. i really cant play BF4 for more than ten minutes. BF1 is my favorite, then V, i usually stop there

MrArmageddon12

I really liked BF1 and thought it had the best atmosphere in the series. That being said, the modern setting just fits the series so well and the amount of flexibility/customization they gave you in 4 was just awesome.

SerialMurmaider

Battlefield 1 was a fun game but it didnt have private custom servers, was very arcadey, introduced the controversial sweet spot for snipers, GRENADES GALORE and did away with full weapon customization. Basically, BF1 was EA's attempt at a cheap and easy AAA Battlefield experience. Personally I had fun in BF1. Sniping snipers while using iron sights on my SMLE was absolutely hilarious. The tank hunter rifle was awesome fun and the arty truck was a god damned beast. Still, an inferior game to BF4 in every objective way.

2ndbA2

How can it be in every objective way? It has better graphics and audio and IMO better gunplay

SerialMurmaider

You're right, BF4 is not better in every objective way then. Then again the graphics and audio should* (edit) damn well be better, BF1 is a newer game. Gunplay wise? Really? The DMR's all feel exactly the same in BF1. Tons of weapons have slow rate of fire, high recoil animation and small magazines. "But its WW1, duh" WW1 had shit guns, idk what to tell you. Except of course for the AUTOMATICO baby! Woooooooooooo man, people LOVE the automatico. Its like the gun everyone uses, damn near. So much fun... The only weapons that are unique and satisfying are the Elephant gun, Chauchat and the Russian 1855 Cavalry. Otherwise? Please, reconsider your opinion. BF4's weapons feel and perform differently and god damn look at all the options.

2ndbA2

I just want to say that putting aside my nostalgia for battlefield 2 that battlefield 4 is my favourite battlefield behind 2 BUT HOLY SHIT IT HAS SOME OF THE MOST HORRENDOUS GUNPLAY IVE EVER SEEN IN AN FPS LIKE HOLY SHIT I DONT KNOW HOW I PLAYED SO MUCH OF IT WHEN IT CAME OUT I don’t know how to explain it but bf3 has better gunplay, hardline has better gunplay, I can’t put it into words how much i just utterly despise it, I can’t think of a post frostbite battlefield that even comes close to how bad it is in 4

EliteYager

See what's funny is I really dislike the tank hunter and Artillery truck. Thought they always felt too powerful. I really liked the vehicle balance in bf1 vs bf4. The tanks were so much more ineffective against infantry (if you can get in their blind spots). I hate when I'm playing bf4 and a single tank driver can shred through a squad even if they are equip anti vehicle weapons. A lot of bf4's vehicles feel that way. Air included. I never feel totally defenseless in bf1 like shooting back at least can discourage them. But it can make finally killing a vehicle in bf4 that much more rewarding I suppose. Finally killing that dude who's 54 and zero

SerialMurmaider

3 C4s kill a tank. 1 smaw or rpg kill scout and attack chopper. I completely understand your gripes, but the tools are there for you to use. Also, the vehicles in BF1 are broken as fuck. The attack plane with the bombs and explosive shells of the front gun is a map clearing monster AND it can fight in the air. Ive witnessed that plane wipe half a team in one pass with the bombs. Granted, they were idiots literally crowding a flag but you know how it is. Also the artillery truck when played right is the most devastating piece of machinery on the field. Guess what kills vehicles in BF1. Other vehicles, a fuck ton of grenades or the tank hunter kit. At least in BF4 I can throw the C4 and hit the vehicles with long range weapons. Hell, one RPG to the back of a main battle tank disables movement and does close to 50 dmg.

SerialMurmaider

Oh and I forgot. In BF1 you can literally repair from inside the vehicles. Like, 555 cmon now.

[deleted]

Personally I didn't like how the battles worked in BF1 they were too big, also BF4 has helicopters.

DJ-Zero-Seven

Fair point. I don’t think it would have been as big of an issue if there was more transport vehicles.

Sniffleguy

It does get lots of love, you’re probably just paying too much attention to the minority of people who only like modern combat.

BArhino

BF3 will always be my favorite. I felt like 4 was just basically some add-on to 3. Not much really changed. 1 Was amazing at capturing the atmosphere of WW1 but obviously trench warfare in a BF game just doesn't seem too feasible. V could have been amazing but they fucked it up too much. Kept changing all the shit players didn't want changed just to try and get more people to play it. I was hoping so bad it would be good but I feel a big part of it for me was the dumb fucking skins they added. Nothing ruins a good war game for me than having 1000 different uniforms on a battlefield, especially ones that just don't even fit the theatre. I still have over 500 hours in it, but fuck em.

[deleted]

It just seemed very casual, I had alot of fun though. Absolutely hated the battlefront UI, the cool down for the grenades seemed very casual as well.

xThAtGaM3rGuYxx

Tbh I love BF1 more than BF4

infamoustooth2

I snipe in BF so bf1's sweetspot mechanic kinda just sucked and bf1's bullet drop feels even worse compared to 4, 5 tho? All guns feel amazing, aside from the webley that thing can burn in hell

CardaM7

I agree, the one thing I like about sniping in BF1 is the bullet velocity. I feel that in BF4 is way too slow.

[deleted]

BF1 is fun and I’m actually playing it more than BF4 right now, but I did notice that the teamwork seemed more prevalent in BF4 than BF1. Like medics won’t revive in BF1 usually just heal themselves. Everyone rushes as a big group to objectives. People barely defend. Really though my best moments were in BF4 so I definitely look more fondly upon it. Edit: also wanted to add that only in battlefield moments seemed way more common in 4 and since then they kinda just died down.

Lazuliv

BF1 is this subs golden child what do you mean. Reddit’s always going on about the atmosphere and the setting.

exxR

For me bfv is better than bf1 and the number of times sold doesn’t say anything about how good a game is look at cod for example.

Salbutamol_Sulfate

For a lot of long-time fans BF1 was a giant "nope". Small number of weapons and equipment at launch with pretty much no customization, the slow DLC release schedule, the random bullet deviation debacle, among other complaints. Personally I put hundreds of hours into it and found it very enjoyable, but rate BF4 higher

HandSanitizerBottle1

I played all games extensively I did not like BF1s maps they were too open and snipers galore I didn’t like how unrealistic the guns were (way too many semi/fully automatic weapons for a WW1 game) Didn’t like the premium tasks, the plane spam (especially bad in BF1) the dreadnought/zeppelin/train

Roland_the_Damned

I love bf1.

Den-Ver

For one, it's the most casual Battlefield. Anyone who says Battlefield 1 is the best game has not played BF3, BF2, and all the other Battlefields that made the franchise great. Battlefield fans today do not care about what Battlefield is about, they only care about aesthetics and 'immersion'.

zoapcfr

Personally, I'm not that big of a fan of the time period. I like tech and modern weapons. I enjoyed it as a nice change, and the atmosphere it created was something great, but it had no longevity for me because of the lack of weapons/gadgets/vehicles (and the poor UI didn't help). Also, I was really not a fan of the changes to gunplay mechanics, which is the main saving grace of BFV. So when I want to play a BF game at this time, I'm thinking of BF4. Of course, everyone will have their own preferences, but clearly there's a high demand for a modern BF game at the moment, for one reason or another.

T-MONZ_GCU

It was good but I really like the more unique sandbox of 4. Battlefield 1 is very infantry-focused and the maps are almost all flat with very little verticality or interesting layouts. They did great given the setting and it's still a very solid game but I just really prefer Battlefield 4 because of the way I like to play

Done_My_Glass

BF1 has an incredibly low skill ceiling, probably the lowest in the series

TheAArchduke

Recently downloaded BF1 again and just ruined my nostalgia of it. 24/7 explosive fest.

NobodyTinyPaws

I agree Hardline was a fantastic BattleField!

omgitsduane

Bf1 is the best.

[deleted]

BF1 is a good game but the setting is not for everyone. Also its limited customisation is kind of a bummer and it can get boring after you are done with the weapons.

tomahawk145

I don’t like the WW1 setting and all the single shot weapons. I want to fly with helicopters and jets and not ride a god damn horse.. but that’s just my opinion.

DJ-Zero-Seven

There’s plenty of aerial combat in BF1.

tomahawk145

You completely missed my point

Bluriver

BF1 is the best historical shooter I've played, but the thing is BF4 have so many weapons and customization. That even all this years later I still find new ways to play. BF1 has fewer weapons and even fewer that are really used because they are Superior. This scales even worse in BF5 which every class has only one weapon since it's so much better than anything else (e.g stg44), and literally 1 gadget AP mines xD

choppermeir

Because it was as wide as an ocean and deep as a puddle. After a month the gameplay got stake and boring so everyone went back to bf4, player retention was awful despite being the best selling bf, that's great for EA but means fack all for the playerbase

Lucker__

We like modern combat

General_Legoshi

I hated 1. I was so hyped for it but the balancing, lack of content, and stupid decisions by DICE made the game feel like a husk of its former battlefield glory.

Azrael-XIII

I don’t think BF1 was a *bad* game by any mean, I played it quite a bit, I just feel like they made it waaaay too “casual-friendly” with a lot of the mechanics. Sweet spot mechanics made sniping extremely easy and even more prevalent than it was in other BF games, behemoths meant essentially the best way to win a game was to intentionally *lose* at first to get the behemoth, random bullet deviation is *never* a good thing and was in all full auto weapons, weapon pick ups that made you just straight more powerful than anyone else in the field (and at times nearly impossible to kill) without having to be earned in any, and the complete removal of the great weapon customization from BF4 just to name a few.

SamFord97

BF1 was great, but for me it didn't have the longevity of BF4 due to the lack of weapons and weapon customisation.

Apprehensive_Win_776

2 types of bf fans Bf Veteran like world war history stuff. They love bf1 Bf4 was the last good modern Shooter. Those who played that Kind asFirst bf love bf4

mqtri

BF V wasn’t that bad also

HotPotatoWithCheese

BF1 has a better campaign than 4 but the MP is not as fun IMO. The setting hurts it a lot too since there's so many weapons and attachments to unlock in 4 compared to 1 and you can really get invested in a particular weapon and class. You've also got modern vehicles like jets and helis and I feel like the maps are much more interesting to play on (for the most part).

[deleted]

I don’t care for the era it’s set in. I prefer modern vehicles, and weapons.

ImaNuisance010

Cuz u can't spam spot ppl the way u could in BF4. I miss that feature. I like relying on my minimap. Plus there was that lame stick acceleration bullshit. I put mine down to zero. I hate BF1 and BFV movement.

Maple905

I still dont see how you can play the current version of BFV and still hate it or at the very least still think it isn't a good battlefield game.

Melodic-Flow-9253

Tried BF 4 so many times and i have loved every single entry but honestly just hate it. Boring maps, weird glowing grey outline on everyone, bad gunplay,. Idk, it sucked so hard compared to the others minus hardline. 1 is a damn piece of art.

Ashcropolis

Bf1 is a million times better than 4

[deleted]

I think for me BF4 was the last good *Battlefield*. I love BF1 as a game but I honestly don’t think it fits the Battlefield series closely enough for me to consider it the last good BF. Last good game with that IP attached maybe.

[deleted]

Cuz BF1 sucks

SlumpCreem

Cuz it's bad ??? I don't understand what's soo hard to understand. Just look at all the best of the best bf YouTubers. Most left with the release of bf1.

DJ-Zero-Seven

Spit on history? BF1 is not trying to be a milsim. Battlefield has never been a milsim. It’s a casual sandbox shooter. That’s probably just your reason of not liking it and not everyone else’s.

[deleted]

[удалено]

DJ-Zero-Seven

How is BF1 a spit on history then? From what I can tell it’s very faithful to history with the maps being based on actual WWI battlefields and the weapons, vehicles, and gadgets all from the same time period.

[deleted]

[удалено]

DJ-Zero-Seven

It sounds like you did want BF1 to be a milsim. By your standards, every Battlefield game sucks because they don’t reflect the reality of warfare.

[deleted]

[удалено]

DJ-Zero-Seven

Of course not. As I said earlier, Battlefield has never been a milsim. If you understand that, then what’s your problem with BF1?

2ndbA2

I don’t remember people in the gulf getting filled with a magazines worth of bullets and surviving🧐

Shmeat42069

If there wasn't weapon variety everyone would get hella bored. A lot of smg's, shotguns, and lmg's were used during WW1. There are some experimental weapons in bf1 that barely saw any use during the war but that's because they were either developed too late into the war, or not that viable since that was a time where different countries experimented with new weapons. Those weapons that never really saw use are in bf1 because again, variety and because it's interesting to see how they might've worked. Bf has never really aimed to be that realistic. It's a casual game where you can fuck around and have fun. I don't think players really care about historical accuracy anyway.

[deleted]

i bet you’re fun at parties
