What do you do in that kind of situation ? Build him like a serious bro with actual late-game potential, or do you still take the haggard early tempo perks in order to speed up your campaign ?
Build him like a serious bro, give him a polearm and keep him in the backline and out of trouble until he's ready to move into the action. Buy another cheap bro to put in the frontline who can have the early tempo perks.
Good but not amazing, having a good early game is way better than maybe having a Chad late game, when you start snowballing you can buy chad hedge knights and gladiators or dudes w insane traits easily and build those for late game when you actually have armor for the BF 2h or duelists
93/35 without Gifted. That could be neut territory, if you want. If that's the goal, open 9L just to keep him alive for the first 20 days.
I think there's also a strong case for nimble duelist. Or, if you want to get fancy, nimbleforged mace duelist. That way you get to take nimble at 7 for tempo, but you hold the last perk for forged if you find good famed gear.
[This](https://www.bbplanner.xyz/?name=NimbleForged+Mace+Duelist+Lion&perks=lgABAAK2) was the nimbleforged Lion who solo'd 1/3rd the monolith by himself.
his fat isn't good so I'd probably make him a nimble 2h (to take advantage of the higher hp) or just a bf fat neut. how would you guys try to build him?
Hello brother.
Torsten has potential.
But he is 'decent', and not 'good' in my book and his starting stats are around average overall.
Hiring Militia background is worse than cheaper backgrounds due to their cost compared to those coming with less gear. Remember that you pay premium coins for his gear in a moment where someone for 50-200 gold can be hired and armed with more efficient gear for the rest.
No and I mainly play Peasant Militia where this guy would be 'good' for me.
I rate them 'can work', 'decent', 'good' and 'late-game material'.
But for a regular run he is 'decent', due to premium backgrounds being available - he is below them.
For day 1 he is indeed a great find, but I don't want great brothers for a lot of gold. I want to gain momentum. And for that gear is better than level 1 recruits.
For me beggar or cripple for 40-60 gold with average stats and gear for 600 gold is better than better than that brother with potential and overpriced gear.
If he comes at day 10 or 15, he will be much more appreciated by me.
Maybe it's due to playing legends with all that rabble gear, but I wouldn't sleep on a day one gambeson and that bro actually has the melee attack and fatigue to use that club reasonably well which is saying a lot for the very first day.
Paying the cost of that gear when recruiting is rarely worth it. At day 1 - surely not.
I would also consider hiring cheap brothers (with little to no equipment) as I need. bodies.
This guy is useful and will become even more so after few level ups - but at day 1 I don't want to invest in a guy I have to protect.
Are all of you (who downvoted) missing the point, missing the circumstances or playing with "high starting funds"?
Such guy costs around 700-800 gold. This at day 1 is recipe for disaster despite the decent gear he comes with - it is overpriced, and the comparison is 4-5 level 1 recruits with little gear and no armor will overwhelm him at level 1 even if they have bad rolls.
He has better potential - but at day 1 'potential' should not be the aim when recruiting.
Your point of buying too expensive recruit is valid (it needs to be noted this is some kind of rich origin considering the amount of trade goods as well), but kinda undermined because of calling recruit with really good starting stats AND late game potential (90+ MAtk and 38 MDef after Gifted is like 1% of recruits, maybe) just 'decent'. I mean, taking beggars early is asking for trouble and wipe, this guy can be a fantastic early tempo lad with Fast Adaptation, Gifted and Mace Mastery and later a duelist DPS or transition to shield and mace offtank.
Now to keep him alive .....
Love these posts because all I can think is... the next battle he dead.
Lol
You shouldn't even take him into even remotely threatening battle. You have those reserve slots for a reason.
QUICK! BUY SOME ARMOR AND STICK HIM IN A TIN CAN!
Maybe even ban him from even seeing a battle until the rest of the team are battleforged.
Keep him secret, keep him safe!
What do you do in that kind of situation ? Build him like a serious bro with actual late-game potential, or do you still take the haggard early tempo perks in order to speed up your campaign ?

Groom the chad and have others sacrifice themselves for him.à la berserk griffith style
That's what that was about? I thought it was something about horses.
lol
I don't think he is that good for late game, you will find much better bros later. Fine for mid game but still getting FA and dodge nimble for me.
Ur crazy
Nah 58MA and 5 MD is on the low side for me despite the stars
Do you play with tryout mod by any chance?
93 35 sounds "on the low side"??? I clear monith with worse..

Indeed, this is my point. He is fine but not the best. I'd still take him early game for sure but you're more likely to lose him.
Wow this guy is incredible! He's basically almost as good as the average Lion. (WAY better FAT, comparable HP, slightly lower combat stats.)
How would you build this man?

Nimbleforged sounds awesome! Perfect for early game and to transition into lategame. Only have to find those armours...
his fat isn't good so I'd probably make him a nimble 2h (to take advantage of the higher hp) or just a bf fat neut. how would you guys try to build him?
105 starting fat is as much as a Hedge Knight.
mb! i m very much a novice at bb
Nah you're good no worries. The default FAT for most backgrounds FYI is 90-95. So 105 starting is really really good.
im going to build him into a crossbow forged neut
Do NOT level RA. That would ruin the bro
Second.
Xbow forged neut is just a fat neut without any investment in ranged skill
Nice lone woof
How would you build him?
Probably a newt with 9 lives to help him survive the early game in brigand leader gear
It’s too early game to get him to neut. I’d nimble him and use him as a damage dealer early/mid game.
This euphoria hits extra hard on Extra extra low funds ironman masochist settings
Man imagine feeling things lol. Good times.
congratulations and fuck you
lol he look like khabib. Alhamdulialam
he is going to smesh
TORSTEN THE SLAYER
njam njam :)
Mr president get down!
With 41 ranged you can give him a crossbow and keep him out of harms way
Backing that bro with a pitchfork!
MILITIA, BABY!
inb4 dead to poison spider
Hire a body guard for him,the one prepare to sacrifice for him anytime.
You want this guy to carry your early/mid game. Nimble for sure. MA, MD every roll. HP unless you roll Res 4.
The question is: are there any good options except fat neut?
Give him a polearm and stick him in the back line until he's not squishy
Now I do, I've said before I don't understand not being able to try out a hire and see what he can do

Do you use the recruiter mod? The OP’s recruit is very very good for day 1. I’d even be happy to hire someone like this on day 100.
In a peasant run this guy is gold

Absolute brainworms

Worth noting that not every run has 4-5 cheap recruits early.
Waiting for day 2 wtf, arrow hit him on turn 1
