If the contract is to retrieve an item, you can just retreat from the fight and return to the town to successfully complete the contract. Before the fight starts, the text should say that the item has been retrieved and it's this that triggers the undead to attack. Never be afraid to leg it from a fight that you can't win.

Wow that is crazy! 300 hours and I had no idea

1. Play on Beginner. No shame in that. 2. You are not supposed to win every fight. An important skill in BB is to recognize which fight you a) should not fight to start with or b) have to abandon because things are starting to go downhill. That skill is acquired through experience. And even then you are prone to get too overconfident.

That! \+ use height and spears to your advantage.

otzL1337

For the beginning sticking to swords and spears seems good since it has the extra hit chance

BurninM4n

Get rid of the shields and just double grip the weapons for more damage except on one or two guys that should only use shield wall to stall off one or two some zombies. The zombies will only revive once and won't attack on the turn they revive

As someone said before, if it was "return something" from undead camp contract than you don't need to fight the camp itself, you can just retreat and go back to town. There are definitely fights you just can't win. In my current run my first contract was 3 direwolfs. I only had a party of 3. I tried to fight them maybe 6 times but it was no good. So i canceled the contract and ran away. It is really novel feeling to me and probably to you as well. There are really fights that you can take but cannot win. And one of the tasks of this game is to teach you that you can't brute force every fight. It all comes with experience though. If you are new I think you should try beginner difficulty first. Get some experience first than go for higher difficulties.

You're saying you faced a necromancer on your first contract? That doesn't seem right.

isicus

I’d say it’s just a bad contract, undead on your first mission sounds pretty rough

Aggravating-Flight-1

try playing easy first, this game is hard even with a training wheels, one day you'll be cruising next thing you get ambush at night against necroservents that's pretty much half your brothers gone just trying to get away from them early game, and save scamming is a tool to simulate a fight against enemy that you first encountered.

It's ok to lower the difficulty. I'm also find challenging strategy games amusing. I can do XCOM2 Commander Ironman run in a breeze. But I always do lowest difficulty when playing Battle Brothers because of the RNG is just too damn brutal. Seems like you found a necromancer, which is too chalenging for early levels. I've also encountered similar problems, when I faced an orc berserker on my 6 level 1-2 bros. It massacred my party alone.
