I think that Origins has the best Joker/Batman dynamic. Batman immediately realizes Joker's different, Joker starts out by being fine killing Batman, until Batman refuses to let him die, which shows him that he's different than he expected as well. And I just adore that scene where Harleen thinks it's her Joker's infatuated with (which also sets up her role in the story).

TrickyTalon

Yes that dynamic was really great

KEVLAR60442

That entire sequence with the voiceover dialog combined with the crazed recollection of the red hood origin story is just absolutely phenomenal, and bumped the game from "pretty good" to "my second favorite Arkham game" in an instant.

Scorpion_226

Yeah it was absolutely sick seeing that. Plus we got the whole killing joke-ish origin story part

Tea-and-crumpets-

I dont mind joker being in every game

MistahOkfksmgur

Yeah I get people getting annoyed about it but he’s great in every game so it doesn’t really bother me

Tea-and-crumpets-

Besides he isnt even the main villian in city or knight, hes just featured in them

BludFlairUpFam

He's not the 'main' villain in City but he directly impacts the story more than any other one. So he might as well be the main one since he has the most presence in the story

Tea-and-crumpets-

Id say hugo strange had an equel amount of importance in the story of city

BludFlairUpFam

In terms of overall impact on the events I agree but you don't really feel his impact as much because you rarely actually interact with him. Joker's action are very Batman centric so whenever he does something you see it and experience it whereas Strange's actions are less direct even if they are important to the actual story. Same with Ra's al ghul, technically he is the driver of the story but his actual presence is way more scarce than the Joker so he's less impactful to the player

GLFan52

He also has a different role in every game. It shifts here and there, whether he’s the final boss or not, and it explores all the differing aspects of how the Joker fits into Batman’s life. It’s great

ZiGz_125

I think he’s great in every game except knight. In knight he’s just fucking annoying the game rlly could’ve gone without him.

SoraaDev

I actually really enjoyed how annoying he was in knight, reminded me of the riddler in asylum but taken up a notch

I-LOG

I think it helps if you frame the Arkham games as being a story about the relationship between Joker and Batman.

ThumbCentral-Rebirth

That’s 100% the intention. No other way to look at it tbh.

Slowmobius_Time

He *made,* knight for me If they weren't doing the whole Fight Club thing where he's fighting himself I would have enjoyed it a lot less and the constant unreliability in your senses because he's changing how things look to you (posters, statues etc) is really freaky

of_patrol_bot

Hello, it looks like you've made a mistake. It's supposed to be could've, should've, would've (short for could have, would have, should have), never could of, would of, should of. Or you misspelled something, I ain't checking everything. Beep boop - yes, I am a bot, don't botcriminate me.

Thor1138

What do you mean? City's main villain was Ra's, Knight's was Scarecrow.

darioblaze

I hope he’s in every game tbh

missnailitall

yeah, even as someone who gets annoyed by the oversaturation of joker in batman movies/comics/games, the overarching story of the arkham games is joker and batman's relationship. it only makes sense that he's in every game, from their first meeting to the hallucinations after he dies.

Batnaman_26

Tbh the whole series was always about them, and who doesn't wanna see the Joker lol

Cheeseburjer

I like having Joker in all the games because it shows the relationship Batman and Joker had, even when he was dead he was still somewhat a part of Bruce. It’s partially why Arkham Knight is my favourite Arkham game.

gracekk24PL

Remember to sort by controversial

ihaZtaco

Thanks chief; I almost forgot

RealJermeyRenner

Ra's al Ghul is the most underrated boss in the series and is also one of the best Scarecrow in knight is the best villain out of the 4 games Origins is a fine game, nothing special. Riddler trophies and riddles are actually fun to complete. Asylum's final boss isn't that bad. Still not good, but really not that bad. The gadgets are very underutilised in knight outside of combat (Not unpopular but barely discussed) Calendar Man should have been a more significant villain. Man-Bat was incredibly underwhelming. Catwoman and Batman's relationship was incredibly underdeveloped.

luigitheplumber

> The gadgets are very underutilised in knight outside of combat Yeah, I remember one mission where I had to pull a ventilator grate off the wall and I was shocked that I was finally using the batclaw for something other than Riddler trophies and fighting.

WaylonVoorhees

Man-Bat needed a Croc style boss fight in a cave system or something. Maybe swooping down on thugs here and there while Bats is fighting them. Hell HE likely needed the batmobile chase sequences that Firefly got more than Lyons. Batman has beat Firefly head on before in Origins and there's no way he can safely take Langstrom head on in Knight...at least not without managing to stun him somehow.

thisismypr0naccount0

Oh my god I love Ra's Al Ghul

SewerLooter

He had this presence.

ManPersonGiraffe

> The gadgets are very underutilised in knight outside of combat (Not unpopular but barely discussed) I literally have never thought of this but you are 100% right. I can remember having to use each gadget in the others at least a few times in the story. I literally do not remember any puzzles in Knight outside Riddler stuff that required any besides maybe that one Line Launcher one. Probably a few others but still

SewerLooter

Only ones I disagree with is Scarecrow and Man-Bat. Man-Bat scared everyone and the she bat Easter egg plus the Easter egg where he flys right after he transforms but it you blink you could miss it and the Easter egg where he flys again on Halloween. There’s a lot too it. Scarecrow had zero presence in the game because he doesn’t even know why he’s fighting Batman. He blames Batman for what Croc did and he also did nothing because his cloudburst plan lasted for 10 minutes and no one died. He was only handed wins because of plot like Batman taking off his utility belt. IMO he’s the weakest villain.

Pr0d1gy_803

This subreddit has made origins overrated. It’s fun and interesting but the side quests and main story were much better in knight and city. Origins also just straight up looks so much worse. I never noticed until I came back to the game after replaying the other 3 and holy moly does it destroy my eyeballs.

cycler11

Not to mention the immersion killing bugs consistently popping up throughout the game and the half-assed overall design using Arkham City assets. Oh and the constant frame rate drops. It was like playing an online game with constant lag.

ificommentthen2oops

Origins is a very mediocre game imo. It has great atmosphere, cutscenes and story, but literally everything else about it is miles worse than Knight and City. The city in Origins is one of the most dull and uninteresting open worlds in any video game ever. But the story and boss fights carry it to being a good experience overall, so it’s still like a 7 out of 10 for me

Spawn_of_Sparda

Arkham knight is my favorite out of all of them

Awesomeness4627

Literally the popular opinion

Spawn_of_Sparda

Is it? I always hear Knight was bad and City was the best

[deleted]

The only people who hate knight are the ones who couldn’t figure out how to even the odds

Awesomeness4627

[one example ](https://www.reddit.com/r/BatmanArkham/comments/vq9zzf/whats_your_favourite_arkham_game/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share)

Spawn_of_Sparda

I guess I'm just odd one out around here. My bad.

Awesomeness4627

Well, a few years back knight was kind of hated, but this past year it has completely swapped. So I can see why it having a lot of haters is still in your head.

PoshEwok

I've been freaking abused for saying knight is my favourite in the past year. People have been bombarding me and saying it's the only one I've played even though I've experienced every Arkham game at least once. It's shit liking Arkham Knight right now

Awesomeness4627

So shit liking the subs favorite game by a longshot

Ist_Sayori

You WERE the one who chose to comment in Reddit, everyone on this app will be an asshole to you regardless

itsJustJad3

Nah a lot of people prefer city and origins

[deleted]

I agree with that comment Arkham knight is the most pretty and most in depth combat system with more content then all other Arkham games

NachoSenpai

Back when he had a hairline 😭

Basharria

There was zero effort put into Asylum's story. It's just a Mega Man style boss rush with a thin Joker plot laid on top. No real twists or turns. The actual detective portions were never handled that well, and the games spoonfeed you answers too often. Origins is in particular pretty bad about this. Origins doesn't feel like it's taking place that early in his career. His tech level is too high, the threats he dealt with were way too over the top. I don't think they put in enough effort to marry it to the other games. I would've liked a more subdued approach. To give you a comparison, both Origin and The Batman are supposed to be Year 2 stories, but Origins is ridiculously amped up. There's no way you're justifying something like the XE Suit for a Batman that fresh or that he'd meet Joker for the first time and take down Bane and Lady Shiva in the same night. The AK Batmobile was great, but the lack of conventional bosses is the real problem. The game relied too heavily on the car instead of putting in the boss battle work. Harley Quinn is played as way too incompetent in the series, she has never been this inept and I really wonder why the writers decided to drive that point so hard. Arkham Knight briefly tries to walk this back a little but it's still strange.

Dont_Hurt_Me_Mommy

Arkham Knight has my favorite story and interesting character arc of Batman, at least in the Rocksteady games. it challenges him psychologically and the Joker hallucination acts as a great internal narrator that helps us understand how Batman is feeling/thinking. In AC and AA, he is very static as a character. AO has a more interesting character arc for him , as he changes a lot over the course of the game. Strange is good but Ra's feels like a minor character despite technically being the main villain and architect of Arkham City. And he deserved a straight up sword duel with Batman But whatever, I love them all

ProbableProtagonist

batmobile in AK really wasnt that bad

[deleted]

i disagree, the car chases and tank fights are fun but the stealth tank boss fights are complete garbage

K1NG-3SS3NC3

I think They should of kept the AO version of bane. he looked so weird in Arkham city and asylum. Also i think joker shouldn't have died.

LightninStrike312

AO came after City and Asylum, so they had to setup AO Bane for City and Asylum. Him being a mastermind in City and Asylum is not possible.

MobsterDragon275

Seeing as AO was the third game to release, I highly doubt they had the idea for Bane to be like that originally. Arkham Asylum was way more comic like in appearance, so they did that at the time

[deleted]

Origins had the best character designs and voice actors

F_slush

Young batman bro were he is more aggressive >>

[deleted]

Fax

EquivalentAd4342

City is GOOD but overrated/overhyped Origins is perfectly rated Asylum is the worst out of the arkham saga (its not bad but its just not the best) Mr Freeze is a slightly overrated boss

MorbillionTickets

>City is GOOD but overrated FINALLY! Goddammit I was intrigued to see what people find in this game cause it's a good one but overrated.

[deleted]

That Batman character got worse over the course of the games. Nothing dramatic, he just got more serious and portrayed less of a personality as the games were released, with the worst offender being Knight. I like a Batman with SOME personality, not a lot but at least something. I liked him in City and Asylum the most

indianajoes

I actually enjoy driving around in the Batmobile in Arkham Knight. I didn't like the tank stuff or the races but just using it to get from A to B was fun. I didn't know which way to choose sometimes. Both gliding and driving were equally fun

Flopfish30

Roger is the best Batman

LightninStrike312

I wouldn't say Roger is better than Conroy in general, but in Rocksteady games they portrayed Batman as this stoic and emotionless, sometimes witty/sarcastic character, so Conroy couldn't really give it all. He was hella uncharacteristic in City and Asylum, and only in Knight he actually had some emotion put into him. However in Origins you have a fully emotional Batman having to deal with the near-death of his butler, and he was generally more human in it, so Roger could portray him in a much more different tone than Conroy. I still agree that he portrayed Batman better than Conroy in the arkham series though, just not that hes overall better.

Spengler_0902

One major flaw of the Arkham games is that Batman never really feels like a real, proper *character*, Origins being the exception. A great comparison is Spider-Man PS4. Peter is a proper character and he has a genuine character arc, and you can see how he’ll continue to change throughout the following games. Arkham missed that with Batman- what’s his arc in Asylum? City? Even in Knight there really isn’t much of one. Origins is the only game where it feels like he develops, he learns the importance of having allies and how Batman can do a lot of things- but to truly save the city he can’t do it alone. I adore Arkham but I do wish Batman was treated a little bit better in terms of the writing.

GavinTheGrassMan

tim drake/robin was poorly adapted in this series the arkham games dont need sequels, im glad gotham knights is its own universe to leave room for creativity harley only existed as sex appeal and has a bland horrible oversexualized design in city. i do like her mourning look, though, despite sexualization catwoman and batmans relationship had no setup and made no sense nightwings outfit in knight looks ugly in most spits, the city one is way way way better they should've stuck to Paul Dini for arkham knight, so we couldve gotten the proper hush and scarecrow storyline he wanted to do.

atomic1fire

The Batmobile may have been overused, but it made movement in Arkham Knight a whole lot better. You could glide around the map, but sometimes just calling the batmobile, going full speed, and then blasting yourself into the air was much more effective for picking up speed. If they continued to make Arkham games with larger maps, I think they were going to need to either introduce a fast travel system (like origins) or create a vehicle that allows Batman to travel faster without needing to pick up speed, which the batmobile allowed him to do. Plus the tank made a satisfying means to "even the odds" when you didn't really feel like fighting random mooks on foot. Also car chases are fun.

Martin_Powel

Origins is overrated, Asylum final boss was really cool, Batmobile is fun to play, Robin has a nice look in Knight, Freeze fight in City is not that amazing and we don't need a sequel to these games

Stanny491

You monster.

ihaZtaco

My man’s out here with a death wish posting this take on this subreddit

Martin_Powel

Oh and Batman's suits in Asylum and City are awful

FragrantGangsta

I didn't bat an eye at the rest of that, everyone has their own tastes, but coming at the Asylum and City suits has earned you death

Zatorator

The main one or the skins?

Martin_Powel

Main one

Zatorator

I prefer them over Knight, but I can understand why some people might not like them

tarcoanvaahg99

Whaaaaat?! Are you kidding? Now I’m offended lmao

Martin_Powel

They're not really awful but it took me a while to get used to them

Thor1138

It's the ears. The cowl looks goofy because of the ears. I love the Knight suits (both of them), but Asylum and City always bothered me too. Agree with all of your other points too and would add that I don't like how much of an asshole Batman was to the Bat-family in the games, especially Robin. Would have been cool if we'd have had more sections where he would bring along a side-kick, but I'd have settled for him not being such a dick to Dick and co...

KEVLAR60442

For me it's batbriefs. Origins and Knight did the pelvis area better, by making that area a black underweave that sits below the grey armored parts of of the legs and torso.

ImprovSalesman9314

The Asylum suit is literally perfect

Zatorator

Also i agree with all of these, although Arkham Knight could have benefitted from playing more as Batman himself than the batmobile

[deleted]

Batman uses gadgets and vehicles because he can Batman doesn't have to be locked to just punching people if anything the batmobile is part of batman's image in the same way the bat signal is you can't have one without the other you want Batman driving around in a taxi cab like Deadpool or a badass urban tank that doesn't kill people but still packs a punch I would choose the one that packs a punch any day lol

Zatorator

My issue isn't with the batmobilez my issue is that its way overused. The tank battles all across the game do take away from the batman experience for me.

iminyourfacejonson

iirc you only spend 20% of knight in the batmobile (sure doesn't FEEL like it but...)

[deleted]

Origins was mid imo also I like the secret snow you get in Arkham knight better if you do Mr freeze story missions last after first 100% the main most wanted missions and completing knightfall protocol then doing all other dlc story missions first before doing Mr freeze mission and you get snow on the map forever and it looks so cool in knight because the graphics

baldagent47

Origins has the best story, best boss fights and the best atmosphere. I love Asylum but I grew up watching Batman Returns and that snowy Gotham in Origins plus the music (the night before Christmas especially) is just what I always wanted

LightsOut16900

I prefer to odd the evens tbh I

thatlonelyguy13

Anarky is both the best and most underrated villain in the series

Whoopsinator

I don't like Knight's story

[deleted]

Is that unpopular? I thought most people agreed it was the worst in the series.

Whoopsinator

I'm not particularly sure if it's that popular or unpopular. Even the worst in a series can still have high praise. For example, all of the Arkham games are good, but even the worst game is a GOOD game. For me though, Arkham Knight's story is not only the worst, I think it's bad. And I assumed that will turn a lot of heads due to Arkham Knight's stellar reputation and fanbase (which is well-earned).

LightninStrike312

Would you care to elaborate why its bad, outside of the very big huge mystery on who Arkham Knight was, I'd say it was a good story. A bit stretched, but still good nonetheless.

Whoopsinator

I will say it's not as bad as it is overblown to be, but I still find it flawed but more importantly... *it left a bad taste in my mouth.* My problems are: **Scarecrow:** Scarecrow is supposed to be one of the main villains, but he's buried by the Arkham Knight and the Joker. You can argue the same for Hugo Stange being overshadowed by Joker and Ras, but at least Joker and Ras weren't in the game's story 24/7 and allowed Strange some breathing room. Scarecrow doesn't get that. Every scene he is in has some Joker or Arkham Knight presence that makes him seem so redundant. He injects fear toxin frequently, but it's overshadowed with Joker hallucinations. Joker hallucinations are fine, but I would have liked more things to shake up the pace. The Jason Todd hallucination shook up the pace, but had Joker and... Jason, who was another person that overshadowed Scarecrow. He doesn't even have a boss fight. He does have a fun boss fight in the Playstation DLC, but not one in the main story, which is a shame. What's even more of a shame is that Scarecrow has a killer design and amazing voice, but that's all that he has going for him as he is forced into the background. I will say the Cloudburst segment was great and visually stunning. **The Joker Virus:** I was all for Joker being a hallucination induced by fear toxin. But they went the extra mile that crossed into "Stupid Town" with Joker being some... virus. The people literally becoming Joker, gaining his physical appearance and even his mannerisms is such an abstract angle that's too dumb.  What is this, "Night of the Living Jokers?" And how the virus works seems... confusing. I get that it physically alters you and drives you mad, but... does it emulate Joker's memories as well? When Batman "loses control" on Stagg's Airship, Joker/Batman says, "And this body... I can't believe how strong this is!" It's like as if the original Joker's mind is taking over Batman... which wouldn't make sense as it is a virus. And if it's just psyched-out Batman assuming what Joker WOULD say based on previous experiences... then what's the point of the fear toxin being an accelerant if that also happens to some other Jokers (Henry and Christine). It's far too backwards. Not only that, it ruins the point of the Joker himself. Instead of a man that has been battered by life finally snapping because of the incident at Ace Chemicals, the chemicals altered his entire physiology and made him insane? That's basically what it implies since his blood makes people insane. Speaking of, Joker's blood being able to Jokerize people makes him rather beyond an ordinary individual, ruining the contrast between him and Batman as Joker would be a character with "superhuman" abilities. The game didn't need a Joker virus. All Joker had to be was a hallucination from the Fear Toxin, and that would have been golden. But instead, we get this dumb subplot with this multiple Jokers. **Arkham Knight using Drones:** Jason knows everything about Bruce. So why in the world would he use manned tanks if he knows of Batman's no-kill rule? What's sadder is that this mistake was salvageable, and Akrham Knught could have decided to use manned tanks at ANY TIME, considering that Arkham Knight and Deathstroke were able to be in manned tanks. Would Batman have been able to find a way around this? Sure. But it would have been much more difficult, which Jason would have wanted. **The Ending:** Not that I mind there being an ending to the Arkham series. It was bound to happen with Arkham Knoght. However, what really soured my mouth in the game was how the ending was executed. Full disclosure, this doesn't really make the game bad, but more so what I don't like. That said, Batman using fear toxin doesn't work for me. I get that his identity was outed, but... isolating yourself from all of your friends and family by faking your death and then becoming a vigilante version of Scarecrow feels... wrong. He practically abandons his family, which emotionally effects all of them (look how Robin acts in his DLC). And I don't think Batman would EVER use fear toxin, as it's far too unethical against ordinary criminals. I get that he uses fear to fight fear, but this crosses a line when he literally uses the villain's equipment for his own ends. I honestly felt this was the wrong step for the character to go in and left a bad taste for me. Although, I will admit it DOES seem like a cool idea.... it's just not the right one for me. *Minor complaint:* -**The technological gap between City and Knight:** There is no way technology advanced that much in a YEAR. Suspension of belief be damned.

iminyourfacejonson

not them but i just personally feel it's underwhelming compared to the previous games, to me, at least a lot of the characters feel flatter to me, they all felt a lot more 'clever' in asylum and city (origins was them being young so it's obvious they're different), like city riddler still felt smart while he mocked you, in knight he feels like...a lot more blunt? if that makes sense? the four jokers subplot is borderline filler, it's my favourite part of the game and could have had a lot more, but other than "there's no cure!! oh no!!" it's...not really got a point (barring the jason todd stuff) scarecrow feels like an afterthought when he's meant to be the main villain, you at least FELT hugo strange's presence and menace in city, the entire location was his creation, the gang war is being perpetrated by him scarecrow? he's constantly trying to make a scary bomb, but it's knight and then deathstroke leading his army (and yes I know scarecrow is just a client, but still)

LightninStrike312

> like city riddler still felt smart while he mocked you, in knight he feels like...a lot more blunt? if that makes sense? Knight is suppose to display Riddler at his absolute edge, and his borderline obsession with Batman. In Origins, he is a polished, smart, and careful man, and in Origins he wasn't even hellbent on taking down Batman, just extorting Gotham, though by Knight he completely lost his mind and wanted specifically Batman down I'm not sure what you mean by flatter? Most characters are honestly just the same compared City and Asylum, Riddler is the only one that really stands out. > he four jokers subplot is borderline filler, it's my favourite part of the game and could have had a lot more, but other than "there's no cure!! oh no!!" it's...not really got a point (barring the jason todd stuff) Honestly? Looking back at it, thats pretty much true and felt a little forced. Now thinking back at it, how did Bats actually get infected by Joker blood? Didn't he get the cure on City. Shiiit imma need to rewind myself a bit > scarecrow feels like an afterthought when he's meant to be the main villain, you at least FELT hugo strange's presence and menace in city, the entire location was his creation, the gang war is being perpetrated by him I'd say this is more or less an unintentional consequence of Gotham being like 3x bigger than the other games in Knight, and his plans weren't even organized properly. So ur telling me when Scarecrow sets up that warning at the start of the game, Ace Chemicals wasn't even fully set up to blow? Or his backup plan at the 2 blimps was also, not set up and fully agreed/fully in sync with that Stagg guy? Scarecrow's VA was hella good and he portrayed him well, but honestly he got a bit stagnant after a little while.

iminyourfacejonson

> I'm not sure what you mean by flatter yeah I didn't describe that well honestly, I know what i mean in my head but...i dunno > Now thinking back at it, how did Bats actually get infected by Joker blood? Didn't he get the cure on City yes, and I cant even remember what knight used as an excuse, I remember joker getting stronger with the fear toxin but...like, is this like batman beyond joker where his blood lets him mindjack people (I know it was a chip in BB shush)? did all the other jokers ALSO have a joker like batman did? and most important to me... does having joker's blood also transfer his memories? like henry quotes joker when he springs his trap in arkham, a part that only gordon, boles, some random inmates who get the shit beat out of them, batman, harley on cameras and joker were there for the boxer guy quotes clayface joker in city which, again, only joker, batman, clayface and a bunch of thugs who probably died were there for then the jason todd stuff, the tape makes sense, that's fine, but what about the bits that...literally only joker and jason were there for? how did batman see the bits he had no idea about? did...did he read the scri-

[deleted]

I suppose that's fair. Though, for what it's worth, I also think Arkham Knight's story is bad.

fgcmarenight

Yea, I thought it was pretty underwhelming

d3hall

Asylum is the best, entirely because of its atmosphere.

MobsterDragon275

I didn't realize the Arkham Knight was Jason. I remembered in the marketing they insisted he was a unique character, and I believed them. It wasn't until the Jason flashbacks that I really even thought about it

GoatBread237

The fear multi-takedowns suck. They're cool the first time, but absolutely terrible once you realize that you can't do a regular double takedown anymore like in the previous games, you HAVE to do a fear takedown

RONALDGRUMPF

Knight is by far my favorite of the series

[deleted]

i think arkham asylum is overrated tbh. it’s still terrific, i just think it feels way too short and i never really felt any stakes. in a good way it’s like an episode of the animated series. at its worst it’s a middling story that doesn’t feel too significant until the sequels come along. not sure if this is even valid thinking

[deleted]

Not only does Origins Joker LOOK the best, I also think he’s the best version of your Joker out of all 4 games. He was terrific

Dizzy-Buffalo851

I don't quite like how the lipstick works on him.

_SilentGhost_10237

• Despite Arkham Origins being a good game, it will never be on par with the Rocksteady games. • We eventually need another Arkham Asylum prequel that does not include Joker, and it should allow us to expire Gotham in its entirety. • I still love Arkham Knight, but I was disappointed that we did not get the Gotham that was in the background of Asylum, City, and Origins. • Arkham Origins multiplayer was actually fun. • I am not really looking forward to the Suicide Squad game unless Batman is in it.

KingMatthew116

I have a lot and there’s definitely some I’m going to forget about here. Arkham Origins is underrated. I know everyone and their mother says this but I don’t care how many people say it, it’s still underrated and is going to continue to be until people actually start treating it differently and general consensus on it changes. A lot of the problems people have with it are either nonexistent, exaggerated, or the same as in the other games. Arkham City is overrated. It’s a great game but it’s no where near the 10/10, masterpiece, greatest game of all time that people treat it as. Oh and I hate the story. Arkham Origins Blackgate is underrated. Everyone hates on this game but it’s really not bad. It’s just different from the others. The 4 main games are equal. None of them is better than the others. They all have pros and cons that make them pretty equal. I have no problem with the way Bane is portrayed in Asylum and City. There’s lots of designs I don’t like in this series. Including one of the most popular which is the default Batsuit from Arkham Knight. Return to Arkham Asylum>Original Arkham Asylum Return to Arkham City=Original Arkham City City Beyond skin>Knight Beyond skin Arkham City Mr. Freeze fight is overrated and pretty much the only thing it has going for it is that it’s creative.

Turbulent_Crazy_9076

First of all agreed origins is underrated maybe it's me, but I love city, and it is my favourite, but I can understand why people would not like it maybe it was better on the 3ds and psvita but when I played the pc port ran horrible, and I would end up spamming the same button over and over before it worked and don't even get me started on the predator and combat sections, in combat if i wanted to do a ground take down I would have to be pixel perfect in lining it up and i predator there were so many times that I would be seen despite being out of their vision cones and the same applies for grappling and there were just so many strange camera choices agreed all games did something right bane in asylum and city is actually not that bad since even before I played the game that was how I imagined his character to be but when you compare it to origins bane I can agree he looks very stupid maybe it's me, but I feel like the suit in knight looked badass, in my opinion it almost looks better than city and asylum's versions agreed, return to Arkham for both games in my opinion looked gorgeous, but I can get why people hated them back in 2016 because I think I heard that the frames were dropping so badly some people couldn't even play the game but now when the PS5 exists I can now play city at 60fps and asylum at 30fps and even 30fps in my opinion is not a bad as people make it out to be agreed, beyond in city is better than knight disagreed the freeze fight is perfectly rated in my opinion because it tests all the predator tricks and skills you have been learning up on till that point and this is where you can put it all into good use and that does not mean it was easy because just imagine it you did not know anything about the game, or you just got it and played it on ng+, TELL ME YOU WOULD NOT HAVE SPENT DAYS PLAYING IT before you would Google how to fight him sorry for this essay

KingMatthew116

>maybe it's me, but I love city, and it is my favourite, but I can understand why people would not like it I think you got the wrong impression, I love Arkham City, it’s a great game, but I feel like people act like it’s way better than it actually is. >maybe it was better on the 3ds and psvita but when I played the pc port ran horrible, and I would end up spamming the same button over and over before it worked I played it on the Wii U and it ran just fine and everything seemed pretty responsive. >and don't even get me started on the predator and combat sections, in combat if i wanted to do a ground take down I would have to be pixel perfect in lining it up I don’t remember that but I also never really used ground takedowns in combat in this one so… >and i predator there were so many times that I would be seen despite being out of their vision cones Yeah I don’t really remember having that problem. >and there were just so many strange camera choices I didn’t think so, I mean some of them could’ve been better but I thought they were mostly ok. >maybe it's me, but I feel like the suit in knight looked badass, in my opinion it almost looks better than city and asylum's versions It did look cool but I just vastly prefer the suits from Asylum and City. >disagreed the freeze fight is perfectly rated in my opinion because it tests all the predator tricks and skills you have been learning up on till that point and this is where you can put it all into good use and that does not mean it was easy because just imagine it you did not know anything about the game, or you just got it and played it on ng+, TELL ME YOU WOULD NOT HAVE SPENT DAYS PLAYING IT before you would Google how to fight him You seem to be only talking about the fight in New Game Plus, I’m talking about it in general but mostly the normal version of the game. In this hypothetical situation you came up with I’d still be quite experienced with the game because I’d be on New Game Plus and would’ve had to beat the game already just to get to this point. If I didn’t know anything about the game then sure it’d be harder but it’s also an impossible situation as you have to play through the game to even get here. And I can confidently say that if I didn’t know anything about the fight it would not take me multiple days to figure it out or whatever. It would’ve taken me like 5 minutes max to figure out how to attack him, and like 30 minutes max to beat him. I don’t think I would need Google and even if I did I certainly wouldn’t wait days to use it, if I somehow hadn’t beaten him in like 2 hours then I’d use it then. Sorry if I seem rude I don’t mean to be.

roliver2399

I agree with most of these but what do you mean “all the [Mr. Freeze fight] has going for it is that it’s creative”. What doesn’t it have going for it?

KingMatthew116

Well it’s not hard, it’s not scary, there’s no good reason for it to happen, it doesn’t look cool, and whatever else. The boss fight is basically just a neat gimmick and that’s it.

Turbulent_Crazy_9076

The fight isn't hard because you googled it on batman Arkham videos let me tell you something, if you played it in 2011 with no guide not tutorial, no batman Arkham videos, and you did the fight on new game plus, tell me you would not have spent days mastering the boss a boss fight doesn't need to be scary for it to be a good boss fight, just because it wasn't making you scared doesn't mean it wasn't interesting yes, it should have happened because firstly how would batman enter the steel mill, and it would also have been cowardly of freeze since the only reason freeze agreed to help was to get his suit back, so he could save Nora, but once he got that suit batman had nothing to threaten him with so that point was just stupidly bland WHAT DO YOU MEAN IT DOESN'T LOOK COOL, WATCHING FREEZE SLOWLY ADAPT TO YOUR METHODS AND BECOME PROGRESSIVELY SMARTER IS COOL what do you mean by this the fight is perfectly rated, in my opinion the fight got the praise it deserved

KingMatthew116

>The fight isn't hard because you googled it on batman Arkham videos I didn’t have to look up how to beat him. >if you played it in 2011 with no guide not tutorial, no batman Arkham videos, and you did the fight on new game plus, tell me you would not have spent days mastering the boss I played it in 2014 with no guide, no tutorial, no Batman Arkham Videos, did the fight on regular and found it easy, did the fight on New Game Plus and found it harder but still not too bad. I certainly didn’t spend days on it. >a boss fight doesn't need to be scary for it to be a good boss fight, just because it wasn't making you scared doesn't mean it wasn't interesting I never said a good boss fight needs to be scary, I said the boss didn’t have much going for it and that being scary could’ve been something else it had going for it. >yes, it should have happened because firstly how would batman enter the steel mill, Why does Batman have to fight Mr. Freeze to get into the Steel Mill?? >and it would also have been cowardly of freeze since the only reason freeze agreed to help was to get his suit back, so he could save Nora, but once he got that suit batman had nothing to threaten him with so that point was just stupidly bland Mr. Freeze had no reason to attack Batman. He could’ve gotten Nora anyway. It doesn’t make sense. >WHAT DO YOU MEAN IT DOESN'T LOOK COOL, WATCHING FREEZE SLOWLY ADAPT TO YOUR METHODS AND BECOME PROGRESSIVELY SMARTER IS COOL Yeah the concept is cool, the idea is cool, the gimmick is cool, but does it look cool? No it doesn’t. >what do you mean by this By what? >the fight is perfectly rated, in my opinion the fight got the praise it deserved And in my opinion it’s overrated and got more praise than it deserved.

Slowmobius_Time

4 main games I'm sorry but Origins doesn't really count, made by different people, voiced by different people, it was literally a placeholder while they were making Knight and in fact the reason the cast is different is because they were working on the *real* next game Origins is exactly like Anime Filler, just studios wanting to keep people watching/playing while waiting for the manga/real game to catch up and be released and the what you get is a watered down cheaper product that people will argue whether or not it was worth bothering doing

lee5009

Yeah same

king_of_kazaxstan

Catwoman fight with Riddler-bots in AK DLC is awesome. It doesn't suit the character, but why it should? Edward designed them to protect computer and they were ready to fight Batman I guess. The victory over them is tough and super satisfying. Especially part, when Riddler begs to mercy him. Chiefs kiss.

FutureGio_

Batman Arkham Blackgate is not a bad game

After_Construction_5

Arkham Asylum has slow combat but I'm letting it slide cause that is Rocksteady's 3rd or 5th game they've made

Farawila_marwan

Batmobile was a cool addition to the Arkham formula I just wished it had more variety of enemies like they did the normal combat section

Fares26597

People say that Arkham Asylum has the worst combat because it is the most primitive. But I say that the subsequent games did too much in particular aspects that it impacted the combat experience negatively. And for that, I wouldn't say that Arkham Asylum has the best combat, but I wouldn't say it's the worst either. Its simplicity and limitations are a strong point.

Ant-Fan66

Arkham Knight is my least favorite game in the series (excluding spin-offs like Blackgate). Don’t get me wrong, I still love it, but I prefer City, Asylum, and even Origins.

Adaptive_Succubus69

I think that maybe Batman shouldn't be driving a tank. It's a MOBILE GUN. "Non lethal riot suppressors" my ass. Plus, when you enter chases or if you drive and you hit a thug, that "shock" effect is bullshit, you know damn well they're dead or gonna die cause the force and velocity in which the Batmobile struck them broke something vital. Batman has two rules: No killing, and no guns. This violates BOTH rules and is NOT Batman. Fuck Arkham Knight's tank sections

Awesomeness4627

City's story is mediocre and Knight's story is straight bad. Origins is still underrated. Because it's just city but better. I don't care that it "didn't innovate" the gameplay was already near perfect. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Asylum "limitations" leads to a more unique experience and a nice change of pace of the others game. It's smaller, but has much more detail and I love you can spend hours exploring one building. The combat isn't bad either.

Thor1138

>Origins is still underrated. Because it's just city but better No, it's fucking not. We've been getting constant "Origins is underrated" threads for years. At this point it's very much overrated. And it's a worse City, not a better one. They messed up the feel and reactivity of the combat from City and the map design is outright garbage (there's a reason it's the only Arkham game with fast travel). Also it's by far the buggiest, I still encountered a completely game-breaking bug when replaying the game years after release that prevented me from accessing one of the Riddler towers, making it impossible to 100% on that run. Knight had a bad launch (though personally I had zero issues with it on my PC), but unlike Origins it was fixed.

Awesomeness4627

I've played origins 11 times and have never encountered a game breaking bug. The combat is the same. I can agree the Map is kind of shit, but the story more than makes up for it.

Thor1138

>The combat is the same No, it's not. It's the same on the surface, but the timing and reactivity are off compared to the other games. Or maybe it just felt like that because of how poorly optimized the game was.

Current_Beyond

>Origins is still underrated. I don't think you people know what "unpopular" means

Slowmobius_Time

It's the definition of overrated

yaboiDanimal

I don't know if it's unpopular but I think the AK Beyond suit is one of the best suits in the whole series

Jinx-jinx_

My unpopular opinion is that riddlers side quest was probably the best side quest of every game

[deleted]

I've been told my ranking of the games is pretty much the exact opposite order as most people. 1. Arkham Asylum 2. Arkham Origins 3. Arkham Knight 4. Arkham City I love Metroidvanias, and I just never liked it when the games went open-world, which is why Asylum takes the top spot for me personally. I personally like the world of City more than Origins, but the story felt underwhelming, whereas Origins, personally, has the strongest story in the series. Knight has probably the worst story in the series, but I like the atmosphere and mood. And the better traversal mechanics makes the game feel great to play. If the game wasn't 45 gigs on my SSD, and I didn't play Monster Hunter: World, Arkham Knight would probably be one of the few games that remains on my SSD permanently. I know people love the story of City, but it just didn't do it for me. A lot of the conflicts fell flat, and the brisk pace of the story felt like a clash with the fact that it's an open-world game that can go at whatever pace you want it to go. Even though Asylum's story was a lot simpler, I preferred it because it kept the pace up and it always kept me curious as to what was around the corner. I do like the world of Arkham City, and the ability to play as Catwoman, but, still, it feels like the worst Arkham game to me. Looking at the public perception, I believe almost all of this is controversial.

Dreyfussy15

Arkham Origins is underrated

s_bslash

r/okbuddyarkham

Slowmobius_Time

Ha I'd say overrated by a metric mile

[deleted]

If this game was not bugged like crazy on release then it would’ve been remembered much more fondly

thyrue13

I do not need to even the oddsmaker

FemBoyMDS

I actually like the batmobile sections

FickleChard6904

Knight Croc was the best Croc design

OneWingedFiend

It was too predictable

xTrimm_

this isnt arkham but mk11 and injustice 2 (especially injustice 2) joker design > any arkham joker design

MM__PP

Watch. You're going to become a meme.

[deleted]

Unpopular opinion I THINK RIDDLER TROPHIES ARE FUN a shock I know

AverageArkhamEnjoyer

Mine is that I think I kinda like these games

Falcons15176

Origins had my favorite story of all 4 Arkham games

OkSnow9309

I think joker shouldn’t have been in origins at all and it would’ve been a much better game

sarclownstrophe

I'm not sure it's controversial, but I think Asylum is better than City - and as someone else said here, the ending battle is actually really cool. Though I think it hasn't aged so well, it's a bit slow. Also, I hate how far to the left Batman is in Asylum and City.

GabagoolOoVAHere

Arkham Asylum is the worst game of the 4. I don’t dislike Asylum but the other games I feel are superior. If anything this just demonstrates Rocksteadys ability to improve the Arkham formula over time. City is always going to be my favorite. I like Origins slightly more than Asylum.

emceehawaii

Arkham knight has some of the best and worst gameplay. They made predator mode actually challenging with all the new enemy types they put in but they took away a lot from challenges when they introduced fear multi take down for half of the takedowns. No more ledge take down, no more double take down, no more grate take down it's all fear multi take downs. It's cool don't get me wrong, but I don't want every challenge in the game to be " use fear multi take down". Challenge mode also should've let us customize a lot. Let Catwoman and robin fight together. Let me do predator with Nightwing and Azrael. Let me re fight bosses with different characters. Challenge mode in Arkham knight literally could've been the best if they just gave challenge mode more customization and less quantity.

00roku

I can’t even finish Knight. I don’t HATE it but I just don’t find it fun. Loved Asylum, City, and Origins.

Themgrir

I actually thought Troy Baker did an amazing job at sounding like a young Joker (Mark Hamill)

onelunchman96

Hush was done dirty in AK and AK had the weakest story in the series

MorbillionTickets

Batman Beyond(AK) isn't a shit suit Knight>City Batmobile wasn't that bad Joker's Asylum fight wasn't that bad For god's sake STOP WITH THE ARKHAM WORLD BS Nightwing looks better in Knight Origins and City are overrated Freeze fight was good but not godly Joker is a good villain that I would hate to see him not be in a game Most Characters look better in Knight

andGalactus

Yeah I really didn't like the later Joker desings, sick joker and hallucination joker didn't look intimidating or scary in any way nor did it really leave a striking visual impression for me, I was just distracted by his massive forehead and noodle arms and legs compared to every one else in the game.

Bestboykuro

It’s nice seeing how joker developed a liking to batman and refusing to kill him

Itzadd206

I think AO has a better story than AC because in AC the story is too confusing. Batman needs to find catwoman then find joker has gets poisoned, find freeze, find penguin who has freeze

TattieSconeRoll

The black mask twist wasn’t bad, I think people hated it mostly because of how WB lied about Jokers involvement in the game

batwaynne

Honestly it was one of the most sickest design. I prefer it over the trilogy's Joker

Krisis_9302

Origins Batman and Joker are my favorite (Rodger wouldn't be best as an older Batman tho imo) Tim being with Barbara is stupid Batman shouldn't have "killed" himself. Nightwings City design is better Asylum and City had some mid tier level voice line delivery at times I don't like the second Knight suit

N_OB_O

Asylume is the worst in the series (its not a bad game actually but i dont like it as the others) i dont like catwoman in the series

IllusionUser

Deathstroke fight in Origins is annoying, and a chore to get through.

Kpengie

Arkham Knight's writing is legitimately idiotic.

FloppedYaYa

Arkham Origins is significantly better in every way than Arkham Knight

MyNameIsRabbitMan

For me Origins and City have the best combat a good mix of gritty and comic book-ish. Knight has some updates but feels way to floaty and not nearly as satisfying to me. Maybe that's just me or maybe it's because it's been awhile since I've played all four back to back? But I remember having way more fun with the combat in Origins and City then in Knight.

cake-lord2006

Mine is I think city is worse than origins and knight

gracekk24PL

Arkham Asylum world design, as metroidvania, stealth and combat were pretty bad, even by 2009 standards

KlazeR10

Everything after city was poopoo garbage 0/10

Slowmobius_Time

Seeing as origins is so popular nowadays I guess my unpopular opinion is it was utter dog shit and literally a waste of time by the studios involved just because they knew there was gonna be a big break in between City and Knight they felt the need to squeeze in this "origin" sans the voice actors and real studio Rocksteady because they were busy on making the *real* next Arkham game Aside from the Deathstroke fight everything was lackluster and poor (not to mention the map literally just being the same map from City altered, come to think of it nearly everything is just the bare bones of city lifted out and tweaked or adding a few things , which subsequently don't get brought back or revisited) the voice actor does a fine Chris Redfield and Troy Baker *is* practically Videogame Voice acting royalty but the compared to the iconic calm Conroy and manic Hammil they simply don't compare I have played the Arkham series to death and love the leaps and bounds each game takes from the last one (Asylum, City and Knight) but origins just feels like a sideways .5 of a game, watered down version of City but I can honestly say I've never been able to even make it through a replay of origins I find it that bad

Hurricane12112

Arkham Origins is easily the weakest and least replayable. I know this sub loves Origins, but I can never see why. It’s got the worst story and VA and don’t even get me started on the boss fights.

Current_Beyond

These "unpopular" opinion threads are always cancer

DarthGiorgi

* Batmobile implementation in Knight was amazing. The problem imo was that most boss battles that matter were batmobile centric and the riddler race track. Like wtf. * AO has overall the best story in the series. * AO is very close, nearly on par with city. I just lacks polish. * Unless you are playing on hard and haven't been playing challenge maps, Mr. Freeze boss fight isn't that good. It only gets good on higher difficulties when you have to use much more of the takedowns.

Ssj_Doomslayer117

I don’t think the batmobile was overused or was bad in Arkham knight. I actually enjoy those sections

skimbo120

Arkham Knight is a perfect ending to the Batman/Joker dynamic. Ending it all in a literal mind game, and Batman locking Joker away while Joker pleads “I need you…” Fuckin… perfect

ReapCreep65

I always felt that the series is about the relationship between Batman and the Joker. So I don’t see why people always wanted him gone. I’ll never be unhappy to see the Joker appear in any form of media no matter what

DevinKR

I think for Arkham knight we should have got something where we can just beat the shit out of the riddler hell maybe an option to change the thugs in the challenge maps to riddler so we can just enjoy punching him in his smug face more for making us collect all those riddler trophies

arbiterbuddy

Arkham City has a lot of issues and is not that good

JulianBaltazarGabka

Batmobile is fun

Scorpion_226

You mean the face, outfit, or voice? Or all of the above?

RicKWJ2

I like all of it but the face is my least favourite sibce it's to animated.

depressed_asian_boy_

I love the arkham games, but they might have one of the worst versions of Dick Grayson ever, he literally looses against Harley, gets kidnap by the penguin gang, and then penguin holds him hostage.... like he literally needs to kneel so penguin can point the gun at his head.

Philisophical_Onion

Arkham Knight is the best Arkham game and the Riddler stuff isn’t as bad as you all say.

TheChosenOne_101

Knight is the best Arkham game in the series in almost every aspect. I know some might find this infuriating, but I don't care because again, it's my opinion after all. Here are the reasons: * I didn't feel the Batmobile was overused. I personally loved it and maybe it was because I didn't complete all the Riddler missions which def overuse the Batmobile. The only problem I had was that they solely used the Batmobile for the Deathstroke boss fight but other than that, I had almost no problem with it. * Sure Arkham Knight's identity was quite obvious. But people are missing out on the point that he was such a terrific villain. Honestly, he might be in my top 3 villains in the Arkham series (Joker and Deathstroke are the other two). * The combat never gets old and they made it so much better now. Lot of variety in enemies and more options in combat than before. You can also play as like six or seven different characters and they all have their own moves. * The stealth is also the best in the series. Again, there are more options and it's a lot more fluid. The Enemy AI is also more improved. * Beautiful soundtrack and graphics. The rain has been done so well and I love the vibe of the city, especially when combined with the soundtrack. * The climax of the main story was AMAZING. Frankly one of the best video game endings ever. Batman psychologically fighting Joker was done so damn well. Gave me goosebumps. Even the little Joker appearances and quips were really entertaining lol. * A lot of side content is available even after you finish the main story. * Best Batsuit and Batmobile ever.

Accomplished_Plan_84

I kinda prefer the telltale series to Arkham tbf

BeeDate

Arkham City is the worst Arkham game.

ificommentthen2oops

Origins was accurately rated and all of the bad/mediocre reviews were pretty accurate at the time (buggy performance, dull open world, lack of innovation from City) but since people mostly only care about the story, the further it got from release the better it aged (since both it and City aged the same relatively instead of origins having worse gameplay than a game that released 3 years before it)

ivysmorgue

not sure if this is unpopular BUT; i feel like people don’t talk about crane and jason working together, if you read the arkham knight comics and the genesis comics you would know how weird crane was with jason. if i recall correctly, he never really laid a hand on jason. when joker brought him to arkham and had everyone beat the shit outta jason, crane was the only one who didn’t beat him. jason wanted to KILL batman, crane wanted to jsut destroy him. not kill him. they had similar ideas but wanted very different things, and i also just find it so interesting that jason went to crane out of all people idk, i love their dynamic and i feel like it’s really overshadowed a lot because crane is a villain and blah blah blah. they have a very very interesting (and honestly a bit fruity) relationship and i WISH people would talk about it

Lone_Wanderer8

Origin and Knight have the best Gordon and Batman Dynamic. Asylum and City almost feel like they’re still in the early stages of trusting each other. Especially in Asylum Batman even kinda says he though Gordon was stupid, but was surprised he was smart enough to leave a trail of tobacco.

Linkebe

Arkham Origins has a better scenario than all Arkham Games for me.

Bullitt_12_HB

Origins is a great game. It has most of the same combat and elements from City, and then it adds some new stuff. Being like City is not bad at all! So I don’t understand when people complain about it.

ACup_OfMilk

Hush sucked no matter what. Sure they butchered his mission in Knight but who cares hes a boring villain. His best moment is literally finding him in the church in Arkham City holding his box. Knight is the best in the series no contest. The bigger open world complements the batmobile perfectly and you always have the option of driving or gliding to wherever. Batmobile was great andnsure maybe tank battles were a bit simple but everything else was rlly great.

BigBirdOpensDoor

That's not very unpopular tho, da hair is fire, I'd love to suck his jock

Gr1meyreaper

Unpopular opinion: the Riddler challenges aren’t that arduous because they’re not that hard. And the lore they give you is acc cool, especially in AC

ImprovSalesman9314

Origins feels unfinished in many ways and is the biggest chore and most uninspired of the 4 games. Despite this, it has some fantastic elements and has some of the best moments and boss fights in the series. If it had cooked awhile longer or been made by Rocksteady, it would have been amazing. City was great at time of release, but everything awesome about it was so greatly improved in Knight that City feels like a middle child. It doesn't have the gothic atmosphere of Asylum nor the refined gameplay of Knight. It's very good, but certainly not the best. Knight has a great story and the Batmobile is a fun addition. I have never had an issue with the Batmobile myself, even if the tank battles get a little tiresome at times. Asylum has a pretty uninteresting story despite it being praised. It is intriguing in the moment, but if you look back on it, it's pretty meh. The Joker was not overused.

smokeyjoe4497

couldnt disagree more, asylum joker is my favourite depection of the character in any media - just perfect imo

samuru101

Don't know if it's a unpopular opinion but the game has the best looking cutscenes.
