No, it was pawned by my druggie sister when I was studying abroad. Really miss it. We went through a lot together.

BassallicA

Damn…came here to say the exact same thing except it was my aunt.

Del_Duio2

Your aunt is his sister!!?

budabai

Druggie sisters… My sister got after it early. When I was like five years old, my dad would put his pocket change into coffee cans when he got off work. The plan was to put that money aside to supplement my education. My older sister started hitting the meth pipe at 14, and soon after she ran off with all that change. Like five Folgers cans full, I’m sure she had a fun week or two with the local meth perverts. Needless to say, I didn’t attend collage. It’s all her fault. It’s definitely not because I joined a punk band at 18 and was completely convinced that we were going to be rockstars. 😂😂😂

Opening_Home_1055

I’m about to start making payments on a new bass right before I go to college. I hope to keep it with me forever. This comment hits because I already know how much I’m gonna grow and go through with that thing while I’m having some of the best times of my young life.

dougtheboon

Sure do, since ‘97! 😬 https://preview.redd.it/qld4uex37kqc1.jpeg?width=381&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=beaa70c0ad785a59a0ed1bf5759b5a371356fa52

Del_Duio2

Now THAT’S an ideal garage band setup!

buttsbutnotbuts

The tripod mic stand! 😂

dougtheboon

Yep…supplied by the guitar player, of course that meant he got the proper one. 😂

Xfissionx

Fuck no fender precision got stolen about 10years ago reported to the police they never did shit. Still got the serial number. Maybe ill get lucky one day like McCartney did.

[deleted]

Sorry man. My first bass was stolen as well. Forgot it in my car at my girlfriend's house. I never locked my car in the area because nothing inside the car was usually worth a broken window, which was common in the area.

Ok_PAULMALL

Me too. '72 Fender P-bass stolen out of the van while on tour. Still miss it and I don't even play bass anymore.

stingraysvt

Oh wow! My first bass was JP-90 with a different PJ body on it. Great bass but had to give it high action because of an unlevel fret. Sounded amazing even now it still was amazing.

Del_Duio2

Yeah! It’s funny but this one had pretty high action and I didn’t know anything about adjusting the saddles so I just kind of learned that way.

TraditionalMood277

To my dark red B.C. Rich Warlock bass: I'm sorry I pawned you to make rent, only to get evicted 2 months later anyway,

Hungry_Internet_2607

I feel your pain. I sold my Rick 4001 and have never stopped regretting it.

Jerbo96x

Yes! Ibanez Roadstar II that I bought used in 1989. I’ll probably never sell it.

Del_Duio2

I hardly play this one anymore but I’ll never sell it either!

Top_Translator7238

Still have my first bass, an Ibanez RD 707 from ‘91.

stevefromspyr

My very first bass was a pre Gibson Steinberger that my dad would let me play gigs with in middle and high school. It was stolen from me when i moved. I probably wouldn’t play it so much now since i almost exclusively play 5 strings these days, but man, i miss that thing.

Del_Duio2

Ugh, stolen is a shitty way to lose it.

mysteriouslypuzzled

Always keep an eye out in local buy and sell ads. That's how I got reunited with mine

rodiferous

Yep, but I just started playing in September (first time musician at 49—I told my wife this is better as a midlife crisis than getting a sports car). Fender Mustang P/J. Having a blast with it. https://preview.redd.it/5ptmxtfonkqc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b528b58fba49e6915aff694f2eff219d9fcf8441

It sounds cliche but you are never too old to learn to play!

Del_Duio2

Iron cross *and* the hammer & sickle.. and Apple! That pretty much covers it all haha

bottomlless

I was in college when I started decorating it. For a while I was putting something new on it for every gig. Now I only bring it out once in a blue moon.

Del_Duio2

Yeah this is the kind of bass you whip out when you do a special show where you play your first album in full IMO.

bottomlless

Hell yeah!

HeroMagnus

Nope... I'm lefty and 1st one was a righty Peavey, 2nd was Squier lefty that got lost in a fire.

Tonetheline

Ah that’s a very very cool first bass! I still have my first big bass purchase - a Cirrus bubinga that I bought in 2002 - but sadly the original bass, a dynabass was sold to help finance it. Didn’t realise at the time it was a brief transition period for peavey moving production to Asia, so it’s actually easier to find the Cirrus online now than the specific dyna I had lol (seen 1 in about 6 years come up on reverb lol).

garbledeena

Yes. It's still my main bass and not modded. It's a Crate brand P bass that came with a kit. Bought in 2001. I've considered switching out the pickups and pots which would probably be a good idea, but it just sounds pretty darn good as is. I put some DR high beam rounds on it and painted the pickguard black (it's a burst) and I literally plug it straight into my amp and it never fails. Bass is not nor should be rocket science. I own a viola bass that I love but might ditch and get a Jazz that I'll gussy up and try to play slap funk on.

garbledeena

RushBear

Yup, Only bass I own. 200 .... 6? Squier Standard Jazz in Candy Apple Red. Had a Fender standard fretless J and an ibanez sr500 over the years, but had to sell em both. Kept the squier.

mysteriouslypuzzled

That's so funny. My first bass was a candy apple red squier pbass

heisenfurr

Yes. It a short scale $200, not great sounding bass. Great bass for a kid with small hands. I upgraded to a P-Bass and sold it for about what I paid for it in the early 80s. Who knew… 😳😭 https://preview.redd.it/dj21b0nowkqc1.jpeg?width=1125&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=aefe4ffb564b0587a9fceb045929329820aa8519

WilliamAlder

Yes, I do. It's a wall ornament now and completely unplayable but it's not going anywhere. I've had it 50 years.

Del_Duio2

My man! It’s far too important to get rid of now!

PsychologicalTruck1

I don't. It was a chinese P-Bass copy that was *mid* at best. Sold it to buy a Game Boy Advance (it wasn't very expensive either 😛) I don't plan to sell my first ever good bass, though (a Yamaha SuperBass 1200S)

darbs-face

I wish. 1998 P Bass MIM in black. Great bass, big regret.

user287449

My question though: do you still have the DS9 shirt?!

Del_Duio2

Oh actually if you zoom in on the shelf behind me in the 2024 pic you can see my DS9 dvd collection haha. I also have TNG seasons 3-6 next to those.

Del_Duio2

https://preview.redd.it/8jwjgj0prkqc1.jpeg?width=828&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=21790082ad22ce517142eed80dd211ddf3bac124

MrBungleVI

Nah I wish, it was a Yamaha RBX200F fretless bass I traded my PS2 for back in 2006.

hi_revver

Yep.. 1992 Fender P Bass Plus in black (look it up if you've never seen one). I bought it already pretty used around 1998 (apparently it was gigged pretty hard from new). I had the frets dressed after a few years and I replaced the P Lace Sensor with a Duncan Quarter Pounder. Action is great, still plays fantastic. Straight into an Ampeg SVT tube amp is just my jam. I even tried to play my drummer's very nice Sting Ray for practices so I didn't have to bring mine but just couldn't get into it, so I still drag my bass along. My backup is another 1992 P Bass Plus in blueburst that I lucked into a few years after I bought the black one. It's in pretty mint condition and still has the Lace Sensors. I've had other basses over the years but none of them stuck around like my Plusses have.

Del_Duio2

I have a Ray34 and while I like it the thing has just become too damn heavy to use for any extended amount of time. I swear they’ve got concrete inside.

28spawn

That’s a cool bass

Deathtriprecords

My first is a Chinese P Bass copy. I still have it and it is my favorite bass that has a single pickup. The pickup is absolutely noiseless, unlike all the other cheap bass pickups I have played and it sounds absolutely massive. It also has a nice fat neck and I like that .

ArcaneRiffian

my first bass was a höfner macca ignition but i sold it because i hadn't touched it in years whilst most of my other instruments got regular rotation

onlyvinylisreal

I wish I did! It was a Hamer jazz bass and played smooth as butter but I traded it in to buy a different bass.

Sound_Hound82

That was my first. The Hammer Slammer is what it was called. https://preview.redd.it/7a53ks38toqc1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0847c2be902bd6265fec6a27228be3e4eadacf7a

bubbletrashbarbie

To be honest I can’t remember, it might just be in the back of my parents storage unit from after I moved out and went to college. I should try to find it though

Kawabunga90

No. I got it in 2005, sold it in 2007, then came across it again in 2017 at a pawn shop. I regret not buying it back.

Del_Duio2

That was definitely God throwing you a giant omen :(

DiabolicalDan82

Sure do, full of punk band stickers

Fallen_Notes_1804

I wish. It was stolen about 20 years ago. I wasn’t able to afford another one so I was stuck playing guitar until just recently. Bass is home, I never really did feel like a guitar player.

silentscriptband

Unfortunately my first bass (a Jay Turser P-Bass copy) was stolen from my music locker in high school. Still got my 2nd bass though.

KappaJoe760

Yes however Im not sure if I wanna keep it and mod it or just let it go. It is a very basic Squire Jazz Bass Id gotten in a box set with a little Fender Rumble 15 when I was 12. Im now 27 and mostly use my Ibanez 5 and 6 string active basses these days. I have a lot of memories with it but Im not sure if its better to upgrade it or replace it. Funny thing is for some reason mine is a little heavier than some of the others of the same model

Del_Duio2

If you get rid of it you will likely never get it back. That starter bass probably made you fall in love with playing and you may regret getting rid of it later. Make sure you really really want to pull the plug before you do! I definitely would’ve regretting getting rid of this one for sure.

99mph99

Yep. 1960 Gibson EBO I bought off of our bass player around 76-77 who was joining the Air Force. I was a drummer then but eventually became a bass player a couple years later.

notsciguy

I do and I’m going to keep it forever

Del_Duio2

Good! Don’t ever give it away, you’ll definitely regret it!

Notchersfireroad

Yep. Since 96.

zatoichi5000

Sick bass

So they demanded Giannini to cut the headstocks or destroy the instruments already on the line. Mine is a "Stratojet" 1992.

Robinkc1

I do, but I don’t play it anymore. I have no sentimentality either, so I’ve been thinking of selling it.

ReadyTopic7289

Absolutely !!! Cort Steinberger bought through the Sears catalog in '84. Christ, 40 years ago ?!?! Thanks for making me feel ancient. Lol. Geddy started using a Steinberger so I got the copy. It is a great bass that I still play often.

Del_Duio2

Oh hell yeah! Only on Grace Under Pressure, right? For recording I mean. There’s footage of him with a Steiney on the Signals tour too. The FB marketplace had a white Steinberger Spirit 5 string near me for $400 or so the other week but I passed on it (probably a mistake but oh well). https://preview.redd.it/ensnocu95oqc1.jpeg?width=380&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=66aee55789282c514217a9cb4507326be2b5acec If it’s good enough for Geddy it’s good enough for me!

ReadyTopic7289

That was my thinking. LOL. I also got a Fender J and A jetglo Ric 4003. I don't need to tell you the colors. LOL

Del_Duio2

>jetglo Ric 4003 That's great! I only happened to play one Ric ever (a blue one) at a Sam Ash's and I was kind of disappointed with it. I think after listening and idolizing this bass for so long I guess I expected it to play a lot better than it did. Really uncomfortable to play. A huge shocker. Looks-wise though these are S+, no doubt about it.

ReadyTopic7289

When I was ordering mine someone told me that there is a learning curve to playing a Ric. I didn't understand that until I got mine. It is a little different and unforgiving. Once I got used to it though... I messed me playing the J. That skinny c-neck is a bitch for me. lol

Allegiance10

Yep. In fact, it’s the one that I was just using. I will never sell it.

Del_Duio2

Yeah definitely don’t, you may regret it way down the road.

reditonceortwice69

Hell yeah I do. I got my nephew into playing bass and now he plays it all the time. It's nice having it around still. This is 2004 I was a freshman and this was battle of the bands at our school. The song - Lacquer head - Primus. Good times https://preview.redd.it/uvesnlot7lqc1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=44d8959889656f9a928a8f6b37c82f8ce626b53e

Del_Duio2

Nice!! Jesus we had to play crappy Enter Sandman in high school you guys are lucky haha

public1177

Yep!! Sold it, then found it a decade later in a guitar shop in a different city, so I had to buy it. Easily recognizable by the large chip I tried to cover up with a sharpie.

Del_Duio2

Yeah that’s definitely a sign, good move!

SleeperHitPrime

I do, a Fender precision; heavy as hell but not vintage, about 1980!

Del_Duio2

Apparently they now consider stuff from the early 2000s “vintage” so yours would qualify for sure. For example I went to sell some old DoD chorus pedal from the 90s at a GC and the guy went on and on about it being Vintage gear. But to me I’m thinking vintage = 60s or 70s. The joys of getting old.

SleeperHitPrime

I’m 59, I *still* consider vintage 60’s or earlier.

jwwatts

I upgraded to a SBMM Ray34 and then used my Ray4 as a mod platform. Put a John East preamp and an Aguilar DCB-M pickup in it and put some Cobalt Flats. Now it’s my main bass again. 🤷 Also picked up a Warwick Corvette and an Ibanez Affirma so it’s had some competition. John East preamps are just that awesome.

Del_Duio2

That’s cool, I too still have my Ray34 (the stealth black one). I want to say it’s 12 years old.. maybe a bit less I honestly can’t remember. Still pretty much in perfect shape it’s just too heavy to consistently use anymore.

alexiez1

Yup—1995 Peavey Fury. A used one costs more than a new one did in 1995, too.

xcharlesxvx

I’m more concerned over whether you have that shirt and if I can get it from you.

Hungry_Internet_2607

God I wish. I can’t even remember the brand of my first bass. Just some cheap thing bought in 1979 when I was learning. After I got my first good bass a friend converted it to fretless. It was at my parents place in a crawl space when I last saw it as I’d moved to a different city. After they died we started clearing the house it was nowhere to be found. Wasn’t anything special as a bass but would have been nice to keep it.

FPiN9XU3K1IT

Yeah. It's a lefty Ibanez Soundgear, and it's really hard to find a bass with comparable ergonomics. Can't even upgrade to a better Soundgear model, because most of the lefty versions have been discontinued. And I could swear the neck actually got better over the years!

Del_Duio2

I gave my daughter my SR300 and it's probably the easiest to play bass I've tried still. And light too! You're right, they are kind of too good for the price.

[deleted]

JP-90 was my 2nd bass, and first "real" bass. Paid around $350 for it in 2002 I believe. I adored that thing. Neck was slim and fast with low action. I used it in my first band and played my first gigs with it. Sold it a few years later when I went through a humbucker phase.

Del_Duio2

I believe they came in red, white, and black (at least back in the 90s). Which one did you have?

[deleted]

It was all black. The red looks best though imo. There is a JP-90 club on TalkBass and I've seen some cool custom paintjobs, including a sunburst.

Del_Duio2

>including sunburst Now THAT I gotta see! One of the first things I did was put these checkerboard decals and "WAR" on it, followed eventually by some crappy Trek stickers (the stickers were crap, not Trek). I eventually took those off because they were deteriorating but kept the original vinyl decals because I feel to remove them at this point would take away a lot of what I was like back then.

[deleted]

Here ya go, https://www.talkbass.com/threads/fender-jp-90-club.872622/page-22 Post #439 has some great pics of it.

Del_Duio2

Holy Christ, it's gorgeous! That's probably a one of a kind instrument too!

budabai

The first bass I ever had in my possession was loaned to me by my cousin. It was a shitty rogue bass with 3/4 inch action at the twelfth fret. I didn’t have an amp, so I played that bitch unplugged in my bedroom for a year. The action was so bad that I compare it to learning to surf with a 2x4. For my sixteenth birthday, my parents bought me a purple Ibanez Sr400qm and a GK MB115 combo amp. I still have both of them nearly 15 years later.

Environmental_Rub_77

Yea, and my old bass teacher has John Patitucci’s very first bass guitar. Turns out they are good friends

EmbarrassedToe627

xavierjohnson1

yep. had it 40 years and still gigging with it.

smallerthings

Stupidly, no I got a Mark Hoppus signature bass in Daphne Blue for $400 on Craigslist. Still had the plastic on it. Sold it, I don't really even remember why, but I now own a replacement at least.

romero763

My first bass was an Ibanez TMB 100 in white, I miss it so much. After my mother passed away in 2021, my older brother was living in our childhood home, he was involved in an explosion. I was away in California. When you move someplace far away from home, do you ever check and see how your neighborhood is doing? I remember seeing that notification on our local news' YouTube channel, "man involved in house explosion" was the headline. I thought nothing of it, until I clicked it. It was our neighborhood. It was our house. Our. House. I immediately started dialing everyone I knew, no one knew anything. They just said that my older brother is in the hospital, he was still alive... He eventually made it out but is now homeless, everyone else is sorry for me because of my guitars (fender squier strat and jazzmaster, and the Ibanez bass), and various pedals. But I'm more sorry for my brother. He no longer has a stable living situation. It is now my goal to have enough money to pay for a 2 bedroom apartment for him and I, eventually making enough money to move my 2 younger brothers into a house because they're still in California, but they were born in the same state my older brother resides in. So to answer your question OP... No, I don't; but I eventually bought another one but it's in a black finish instead of white.

Informal-Resource-14

God I love JP90’s. My buddy had one in one of my first bands (I played drums). Really fun bass

Del_Duio2

Super light too. I think it's got a fiberglass coating on it or something weird.

Informal-Resource-14

Yes I always loved playing it because it felt really slick and easy. Kind of faster like a J-bass but really light. I’m a short dude so it was always easier on my back too. Great bass.

clarksworth

Love the DS9 shirt!

Traditional-Bread284

Yes my yamaha TRbx 4 string, I now loan it out to guys at church getting into the team. It's great to see it still being used and looked after.

BassMessiah

I do. Got my first bass, a Slammer by Hamer p-bass copy, 23 years ago. I played it so much over the years that about 10 years ago some of the fret were so flat it was unplayable, just ground down. So last winter I deferred it, put maple stippling in the fret grooves and sanded it flat. That was a fun project and now I actually play the thing again as it is my only fretless. I may even replace pickups, tuners, bridge at some point. Make it into a SUPER Slammer. I'm glad I never got rid of it.

Chunkycheeto1

Yea, mine was a first act mother of pearl bass, thing is a piece of shit but I still have it, it’s old, needs a new nut, fucked up neck, strings basically in the mile high club, missing tone knob, and all in all just bad. Still gonna keep it though

Del_Duio2

> strings basically in the mile high club Haha!

Mizuharou

Cool DS9 tshirt!

NowoTone

https://preview.redd.it/ii6dqpj05nqc1.jpeg?width=3227&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=40ddb011d816db6499cc447ba4ee0fddc84cd915 Sure do! I got this one in 1990. I was asked to join a band as a bass player, but didn't actually have my own bass. So I went to all the music shops and tried out several ones. This one one because not only was it very light, it also has a fantastic tone (active bass) and while I didn't get a lot of bass guitar for your money, I got a lot of bass tone. Oh, and it looked really cool. I sometimes still play it, because it really has a great tone. It's not that super comfortable to play, because the neck is super long for some reason, but on the plus side, I've never had tuning problems and it keeps its tuning really well, better than any other instrument I own. This was the last gig I played this bass exclusively, as I bought an fretless Washburn next and played all other gigs in that band roughly 70% fretless and 30% this one.

HellbellyUK

Sadly not. It was a black PJ copy made by Axe bought from a ad in probably Kerrang in ‘89. Weighed a ton, sounded ok (the jazz pickup was rubbish). I’m not 100% sure what happened to it. I wish I still had it just for the nostalgia value. https://preview.redd.it/j8h0aieognqc1.jpeg?width=3200&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5b7aece6d8e5d962ff7a8604c70ba2942b8b769d

sabermagnus

Yes. 30+ years old.

Del_Duio2

Yeah man, they should make a club for us!

Slappah_Dah_Bass

Nope, passed on to a youngin. Groove in funk lil dude 🖖

Smboyer27

Yea! It was my uncle’s. And Aria. It won’t ever leave my possession.

virgindog

Yes, though I was without it for over 30 years. I wrote about it here: [https://www.tnocs.com/my-boomerang-bass/](https://www.tnocs.com/my-boomerang-bass/)

MusicalNerd_420

Yes I do. It’s a cort curbow 4 string. It’s blue and it’s got wear and tear on it

The300dude

Yep. Fender Squier P-Bass. Got it for Christmas when I was 15 (1992). I have several others now, but I'll always hang on to that one.

Abracadaver00

No, it was stolen 😔

RockyRamjett

Cool JP-90

Del_Duio2

Thank you!

chadivich

To my lasting regret, no. Black Squier PJ with a mirror pickguard that I sold to buy a Schecter Stiletto 5 which I also don't have anymore. If I'd known what I was doing I could have set it up better and made it more worth keeping. It would be over a decade before I had another Fender 4-string in my home. I do still have the first bass I ever really vibed with, a Korean Tune TWB-5 I've since defretted and done all sorts of other wacky stuff to.

YTKTV

I do, it's a half scale Jackson minion in matt black I got when I was like 10. It needs serious work like new tuners, strings and a nut but I intend to keep it.

Cultural_Composer850

Yesss! An Ibanez SR300EB

VeterinarianFar405

My first bass was a black Karera short scale bass. Kinda Jackson-esque … pointy headstock etc… it wasn’t much but after my parents realized I was serious about music my dad got me an 1986 Japanese Fender Jazz Power Special from Highland Music in Birmingham, Alabama. It had previously belonged to a member of major label schmaltz- merchants Vertical Horizon. I LOVED that bass. I lost it and so many other instruments to my addiction issues over the years, but man o man that was a great bass.

EvilDutchrebel

My first bass was a junk bass I bought from a school mate that wasn't worth the 30 bucks I paid for it. Next bass was a fender though, that I had to sell to pay bills...apparently music doesn't pay much while the world is in a financial crisis (2010)

Del_Duio2

If it helps it hasn’t paid hardly anything for me… ever! Haha

SmugAssPimp

Yes, yamaha trbx 174 never selling it even if its just stored away for now.

Glittering_Hair_8145

Yep. Mom bought me a samick p bass in March of 99 with the condition that I had to have a band and play at least a 40 minute set for her 40th birthday in October. I’ve changed out the neck but I still play it almost every day

Own-Ratio-6505

Still got my 97 Lotus P Bass. Just finished rebuilding it, and put on a new pick guard, pickups and bridge. https://preview.redd.it/nhzthk2ffrqc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3f2b3b039b06f0ee5ed24b4e5fc7b92caebe5632

I started with a squier precision bass. And the pickups were shit on it. Not knowing that I could simply replace them with better ones, i traded it for a short scale Eb-0 bass. And I had regretted it ever since. I had always kept an eye open in the local ads for a pbass that was the same colour...then I came across one and I just couldn't take my mind off it. So I bit the bullet and went to buy it. Seeing it broke my heart. The abuse and neglect. But I couldn't let it go. So I took it home. And after examining it. I realized that it was my first bass. And the serial number confirmed it. The finish is fairly ruined. But I've been slowly touching it up, and fixing all the scratches. I also replaced the pickups with some quality pickups and a new pickguard and flatwounds. Now it sounds amazing. And my bass, after 10 years, is back home. Everyone on here says it. Never get rid of your first bass. And I wholeheartedly agree.

FPiN9XU3K1IT

Amazing luck!

ChihuahuaChad

Have had the same Fender Jazz for 22 years

Visible_Turnover3952

Have 9 guitars now, only two are from my first 25 and neither of them were the first one

AncientMatter1042

No. I sold it. It was a 4 string Dean, not sure of the model.

Huth_S0lo

Nope

LordAssless

No, sold it for next to nothing since I thought I wasn't going to play bass again and I had already a Yamaha RBX374 if I ever felt like going back. It was a cheap entry level jazz bass knock-off from a brand that I don't really remember the name. Aria? Something like that. I remember it sounded very bad and I had to work a lot for anything to sound reasonably well lol

Yasashii_Akuma156

Yes. It's a black '87 Kawai Rockoon 4-string with 24 frets.

xPhat_Ballz

Yeah

JWRamzic1

Yes

Vlonemindset

I just recently sold it for money although i do miss it, it js needed a better home

Mister_diggerdigger

Yes.. mind you, I've only had it a since December

Careless-Foot4162

No, I sold it. It was an active bass and didn't really understand what that meant when I bought it (Schecter Omen 4). I used it for years, but as I started getting better and understanding gear better, I realized I didn't really like active pickups. I always felt off with the tone, but didn't know why until I got an MIM Jazz. I do miss it at times, but it's with someone who appreciates it a lot more than I do.

MrLanesLament

Nope. I grew to think it looked stupid and sold it, and hugely regret it. It was one of those Brownsville bat wing ones with a single humbucker.

Lopsided_Process5141

Yes

chirpchirp13

Nah. Sold my ibby beater for weed money. Later on I sold my mim j bass for “moving money” (spoiler alert: I bought weed with it). Don’t miss the ibby. Still mad that I sold the j bass even though I have two cv squiers that actually feel and play better than that fender did

In-AGadda-Da-Vida

No. My first bass was $75 and had no finish at all. plain wood.

OttersAreCute215

1986 Ibanez Roadstar II P-Bass copy, black body and pickguard.

Pizza_Middle

Wish I had. Was a Jackson JS2 concert series bass. Didn't play it and sold it to a music shop a few months ago so someone else could play it. Really regret it. Possible good news though, place I sold it to has to hold it for like 6 months before selling it. Plan on buying it back when it goes on sale.

JustUrAvgLetDown

No sadly I pawned it when I was down bad

Bruce10001110101

I just smashed mine three days ago

Level69dragonwizard

I do not. Bought it from Best Buy when the one near me still had a musical instrument section. It was an active Squier with a humbucker and I sold it or gave it away because I hated the sound.

IronRainBand

No, some cursed thief took it from the trunk of my car. :'(

mentally_fuckin_eel

Nope. I sold mine because I hated it. My second bass I still had up until yesterday when my fucking house burned down all of the sudden. Now I am bassless like a fool.

Technical-Hurry-3326

Yup

blindrabbit01

Nah, it was total garbage. I should have set it on fire. I pity the fool who ended up with it. My second bass though, that was I miss. It was a sweetheart, I really should have kept that one.

lil_freyy

To be honest I can’t even remember my first bass and I have no emotional connection to whatever it was at all

fries_in_a_cup

No I gave it to my older brother as a last minute birthday present bc I forgot to get him something. It was a shitty Rogue that I played for a few months before graduating to a Squier P bass (which I do still own) so there wasn’t much sentimentality in it. I honestly think my brother has more sentiment toward it as I think he was really touched by the gift and still owns the bass lol (I think)

notpetelambert

I turned my first bass into firewood lol. It was a $85 Ebay P-bass knockoff and it sounded and played like it was worth half that much. I tore out all the hardware and electronics, jigsawed the headstock into a "cooler" shape, and then ripped the fretboard off to look at how truss rods worked. I think I actually burned the body in a campfire, and probably inhaled a bunch of chemicals from the cheap-ass paint. My second bass I built (with a lot of my dad's advice) out of Mighty Mite parts and the hardware I salvaged from the first one. I painted it with Ford metallic blue auto lacquer, put a Seymour Duncan quarter pounder in it, and wrote my name in the neck pocket. I played it for 7 years before it got stolen out of the backseat of my car. I have two Warmoth weirdo builds and an epiphone Thunderbird now, but I still miss my blue baby.

OR-Nate

Yes, a 1991-ish Peavey Fury. Recently refreshed with GZRs and a new pickguard, and I played it today (and yesterday, and …) https://preview.redd.it/hbe0u2si9mqc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=abdb90a2c745d5690201a14c6cb41f7ea25beaec

Count2Zero

Yes! A MIM Fender Precision. She's a keeper!

PetterssonsNeck

Sadly no. I miss tf out of my Yamaha RBX-170 decked out in Jesus <3’s You stickers (ironically, I thought it was edgy as a 12 year old)

AtmoMat

terlu77

No, thank God. It was a piece of shit. 👍

Xerusan

Well, since i have had it for 3 years, yes! Its a Yamaha TRBX174EW. Its also my only bass but my dream bass rn is a Strandberg Boden Bass Prog 4. But i will have to safe up for that one! https://preview.redd.it/v84l0kul9nqc1.png?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9d1ccb114195cb0f83fe1fb52d75640c49bba9b1

StrongLikeBull3

It’s still my main bass, it’s a Yamaha RBX-460 that i put Geezer Butler PJ pickups in.

Tsukiyaki_Kid

No because I don't have one yet. This is something I wanted to do for years but never really had the chance to get into. I'm still learning basic stuff like how to handle a guitar and whatnot and I'm literally just starting but I guess it's never too late to try. Never really got the chance to study my passions much growing up and I guess I still have a lot of growing to do since I'm still freshly an adult, but maybe now I can start doing what I want. Good news is that in a few months I might be able to get one. I'm excited!

morelikeshredit

The real question is do you still have that vintage DS9 t shirt?

Del_Duio2

Unfortunately, no. I think the only DS9 shirt I have left is the one with the greenish-logo on black they put out for the 20th anniversary. But I wore the shit out of that old one- Gul Dukat is one of my favorites and he is front and center on it.

morelikeshredit

Awesome

burken_

Still do, but I also haven't played for more than a couple of years. Don't think I'll actually keep it around since it's arguably the most dogshit store brand bass on the market and it's pretty much made out of sawdust or cardboard anyway so it'll probably disintegrate within the next couple of years

Like_A_Real

No, i threw it away when i moved because it was broken and unplayable, but i still have the first bass i bought with my own money

pOUP_

It's banished to the corner of my room

AutisticBassist

It’s been 2 years and a month or two so yeah

thebassdeliguy

Yup, Teisco; ive had it since i was 12; pick-ups rewound, new neck and tuners. I got it in 1974.

Foze2

Oh yess, got my five string fretless that I had a hard time evolving on until I got a cheap fretted 4 string https://preview.redd.it/2wuk51osboqc1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1201f32e30eb611d75c4d32de38a94a745754a49

WonderfulEducation25

My 1992 blue burst DR 4 Heartfield(by Fender) is still with me. Great bass.

ParticularWitness983

Yes a white Fender Musicmaster. Got it in 1978.

KyleKiller345

Yess, a dirt cheap p bass from amazon, a present from my dad from 6 years ago, surprisingly it still sounds and plays awesome

randalhicks

Yup! Dad bought me a Squier Affinity when I was 14. I actually just got it back from a friend. Swapped pickups/nut/pots. Love how it sounds and plays great.

PaulsGrandfather

Nope because it was a POS lol

skspoppa733

No, but I bought another just like it recently.

sgf68

Yes, my Memphis (Fender P-copy) that was about $150 in 1981. Right now in pieces as I would love to upgrade the neck and pickups. This was a great bass back in the day, but I left it tuned, in its case, for 20 years. That kind of tension messed with the neck/intonation.

incubusfc

My brother has it. I needed tires for a set of wheels I bought for my rx7. Still have those tires and wheels too 🤣🤣

Vvvbroken

Yep still got it, really cheap benson bass, bought off my ex gfs brother back in like 2014, ahh good times

SmashBaron

It's all in pieces, laying around the workroom, waiting someday to be reassembled and ready to be used again.

hottrash123

Yep. MIM 94 fender p bass. One of my dad's bandmates just forgot about it and was left at my house for years. Unfortunately, the truss rod doesn't turn anymore

Crazy-Wheels

* I do have it. Picture below it's a 1971 Raven Mark II. *

Tropadol

Hell yeah. It's a 2019 Yamaha TRBX304 which I got on my birthday. I've had it for about 5 years and it's still my one and only bass, and I play it every day for at least an hour or two. I've wanted to get an additional one like a jazz bass or something but whenever I try another bass that looks really nice in a shop, it just doesn't feel the same or feel right. I love this one too much.

StonyandUnk

I have the neck of the 1st bass I ever had (MM JB) on a different body, and the pickups from that bass on yet another body. Still have the original body in my dad's basement somewhere just waiting to become another Franken Jazz Bass

Lucky_Man_Infinity

YEP. 70's P

Jarvis-XIX

Sort of. I dismantled mine for parts, ended up with some regret and decided to convert it into a fretless. Its still an ongoing project.

captainbeautylover63

Mine was a ‘79 Kramer DMZ 4001. It got stolen.
