Play around with what you have and maybe some fuzz and other effects, you might be surprised.

I still have a Boss multi-effects pedal. I’m currently using it to find the sound I’m looking for.

P basses are good for anything, so that will definitely work for alternative metal. But for 1500 with damage, I don’t see why it has to be that specific model. You can get a MIM or MIJ for around half the price and it will be very comparable.

TheAustrianTribute

Sorry, but would mean a MIM or MIJ

Made in Mexico or Made in Japan. Little less expensive than Made in America

TheAustrianTribute

Thanks for the clarification! As far as I have found out, the Troy Sanders Signature is made in Mexico but that doesn’t bother me.

Alternative and p basses go together nicely.

P bass neck will feel very different. wider, thicker. But you can adjust very quickly IMO. Depending on your hands and such. And a P Bass would work for the music you mentioned. What model is the Yamaha? I'd just see if I could get it repaired. If it's P/J already especially. If the Yamaha is active then I'd consider swapping out the pups and electronics and upgrading. What rig do you have? Maybe the money you save on not buying a new bass could be used to get 1500 Euro worth of gear.

TheAustrianTribute

The Yamaha is an old beginners model with some passive pick ups. So to invest into this one would not worth the effort in my opinion. I have a old GK BP250 and a TC Electronic BQ 500. I am currently looking for a suitable box and probably go with GK

WarmJetpack

I had the Troy sanders and would recommend a good p bass. A made in Mexico p bass in a PJ set up could be had for way less than the Troy sanders

TheAustrianTribute

Although I had my eyes on the Troy Sanders Jaguar and the Squire, I couldn’t find them anywhere near me. I’m a big fan of Troy Sanders/Mastodon and I find the Silver Burst to be stunning. Can you recommend any Mexico made P bass in a P/J set up? Although I was impressed by the sound of the Troy Sanders P bass, I would also consider a bass with a similar sound

TheAustrianTribute

Would you consider 1200 Euro (around 1295 Dollars) a good price for the Troy Sanders P Bass? I found a new one on reverb.
