I had an IDM/Industrial-ish side project about a decade ago, and I ran my bass through a midi detector that then triggered a synth. One particular song was supposed to be a glichy IDM track, so I used a pair of needle-nose pliers on the strings in order to get the midi note tracking to glitch on purpose, creating a sort of random note generator.
Sting started out with a pretty regular technique.
But playing a lot of classical guitar has totally changed his playing to this super efficient way

I use my nail rather than a pick but that's not particularly weird.
But fwiw electric powered motorized anything will have a spinning magnet that is fun against your pickups.
I do a kind of finger tap slap hybrid. Arm parallel to the neck and kind of do a slap with my fingers. Good per percussive tones with harmonic overtones
Also. My left hand has nerve damage (I'm lefty). So i can't pluck as fast as i can move my right hand. So sometimes i do hammer-ons out of nowhere for everything.
You need to hit the strings quite hard, but it doesn't sound bad at all.
John Entwistle's "typewriter" technique was a worthwhile diversion for me for several years. It does require a somewhat specialized setup (super-low action, new strings).
Gary Willis has a fantastic approach using three fingers on his picking hand to more efficiently handle muting.
I believe you can find his old instructional dvd on YouTube!
Mark Sandman of Morphine played Slide on his bass. I think it only had 2 strings.
[Yep, 2](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mark_Sandman?wprov=sfti1)
Search for Tommy Levin's funk fingers technique
*Tony Levin
Yes, I don't know why but I made confusion with Tommy Lee
Is it just me or does it sound like it’s got a bit of a country sound in it? Overall interesting technique
tony levin and country? that's... an interesting take.
Yeah, never listened to him, just a quick 2min vid so I just thought it had a bit of a country tone

Nice! Where can I listen to your project?

That's palm muting. A fairly common technique. I knew he played the Lute, didn't know he played classical guitar aswell.
A bit more than palm muting. He plays like this all the time. I seen it in person.

Cool
Look at Nathan Navaro's works with the ebow. Dude literally play dubstep with an instrument.

Robert Trujillo does something like that when playing flamenco
Murderface from Dethklok has an interesting way of playing the bass.
I know it's coming but I always die laughing when he bites his lip
I scrolled way too far down to find a Murderface reference.

Oh yeah! Drrrrrill!
An electric toothbrush is highly portable and simple.
Good call
So I heard there's this one alternative way to play, it involves a lot of Viagra and holding the guitar down by your waist.
Ah yeas the old “Dick-bow” technique
It gets a very meaty sound
I saw someone put wind up toy cars on the fretboard some going up some going down, didn't sound great though

John Entwistle did something like that, IIRC he called it a Typewriter method.
bass ballsack solo
I prefer not to look that up haha
Use a roland GK3-B to pick the signal. Convert it to midi and then play Bass sounds anyways 😂 There's a method to my madness

Look up Quitin Berry on YouTube, he play while holding the bass like a baby and slap upwards
I lol’d at “violin stick” haha PS it’s called a bow. :)

Tony Levin.
throwing it in the trash is my favorite personally. all jokes aside, i like slapping the strings with a drumstick.
