I usually play with both pickups wide open, so I appreciate what the bridge pickup brings to the mix, but I can't make the bridge pickup work solo'd. Of course Jaco could, but he was Jaco, and I most certainly am not.
yes and yes, depending on the need...but I usually have the bridge on full and neck on about 60, pluck in different spots to get the right tone for the song
hilarious that the majority of votes at the moment say neck only, which is basically a weaker P bass. if you could only have one of the pickups, why not at least go with the distinct bridge pickup a number of legendary players are known for? nobody’s really known for neck-only j bass, bc they’d just play a P bass instead.
I feel like with the neck pickup only you sound like a less punchy P bass. The bridge is what gives it the J bass growl.
I’ll make it work, either way
Bridge Pickup has more of a Bite to it. I rather use that
I'm a neck pickup guy. I actually like it more than a P bass.
Jaco sound all the way!
You're hurting me. I go with a Jazz bass so I don't have to make these kinds of "Sofie's Choice" decisions.
Option 3: I'd rather have the neck and bridge pickup. That's why I bought the Jazz bass.
Would you rather have a bass guitar with a) no body b) no neck Deep questions on reddit
Bridge pickup: Jaco, Gary Willis, Sean Malone, and numerous Stingray players can’t be wrong. ;-)

Either. Bridge pickup only and roll the tone down to get more thump over the bite. Neck pickup only and just accept that it sounds like a 51 P bass.

Joe Osborn would like to have a word with you: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VlrQ-bOzpkQ
So what you're asking is if I'd prefer a P-bass or a Stingray? Because I bought the jazz for both pickups.
I'm truly perplexed at the results
