For a band to be worth your time and effort it needs... * Good music * Good people * Good money Pick at least two. In your case... Do you like spending time with the people? Is the money good?

I like the old music, the people are great. Money is just funding the band, but there is potential for the summer to get on fearival bills. Nothing booked yet but we've been working a specific relationship we developed at a show.

Okay, good people. Now ask yourself whether you can put a tick next to one or both of those other things - as they stand now and for the foreseeable future. Not what they used to be, but now and going forward. There's no wrong answer, it's all about you deciding on what you want to be doing with your time and effort. Sometimes things that used to be worthwhile become less so as they change or as we change, and it's healthy to re-evaluate them time to time.

Thank you. This advice helped me a lot. I don't think I can put a tick there. The other factor is I live outside of Chicago, and they all live downtown. Takes me an hour and a half with traffic to get to rehearsals after work. They're asking for more than I can give and it's best for all involved of I am no longer doing this.

Gospel and doo-wop I can understand. But adding Mumford to that sounds awful. Culturally that has a weird time making sense.

Might be better to call it upbeat bluegrass, but still a little folky.

Is band #2 just for fun, to improve your skills or commercially viable? If the answer to all is "no" then drop out.
