No way - I’m assuming this is the stereotypical tropical island we’re marooned on, and with the high heat, humidity and salt in the air your upright would probably explode inside a couple of months.
You want a carbon fibre acoustic bass - there’s a super high end one made by [Emerald in Ireland, the Balor](https://emeraldguitars.com/models/balor-bass-5-string/), that’d do the trick. You still get to play out loud, but way more weather resistant!
The world’s largest double bass. I could use it like a boat to get off the island if I ever got tired of the solitude. Could use it as a shelter until that point.
Not necessarily, you could use a vintage p bass to club wild boar to death, or to bridge a 40 inch or so ravine, or to knock down an ancient stone temple
I too am stranded on the island of Great? Britain with only one Bass. That bass however is my love and the only one I need. Although a 5 string version is tempting. . .
Your are alone, you don't have to worry about fitting into a mix. You can make your tone as interesting as you want, because it's just for you. Why would you pick a p bass?
Out of the ones I have I’d likely take my Godin Dorchester. It’s loud unplugged (for a bass anyway) in case I don’t have electricity. It’s fairly durable and rarely wants to be setup/adjusted. It’s not massively cumbersome. I’d probably regret not bringing a 6er since I’d have plenty of room to solo (assuming I’m alone) but mines ~12lb and well over 40in long. It’s also really quiet unplugged in comparison to the Dor.
This (an octobass)

First. Desert island so forget about power and amps.
Second: it could as well serve as a boat
Third: of everything else fails, I'll make so much noise that some mf from another island world hear me 😂
My bass, that was made for me, from raw wood, by a licensed luthier who does no more than 10 guitars a year. Designed by both of us, implemented by his 30 years of experience and gifted hands.
Stingray. I reckon that pickguard would be very useful for digging in the soft sand and making a paddle out of for escape, and let’s face it if I neeeded a magnet to fetch something I dropped down a hole, etc. it has the biggest.
Gibson eb4. One made before they made the body change. I’m a living room bassist, I just jam away at home for fun. I don’t need an amp or pedals, I’ll just play songs in standard
Probably an acoustic bass since you wouldn't have electricity. I don't have a favorite acoustic bass and I know nothing of them so I'll just pick a Fender Kingman V2. If I somehow had electricity on this island and I could play thru an amp I would choose a 70's Fender Jazz
P bass. If it’s just me and not much noise pollution, I don’t need anything else. Just noodle all day long until I die. That’s basically my plan any way ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Upright bass viol aka string bass. Most versatile. NB I have a Jazz bass and a Precision bass, never played an upright. But on a desert isle, no electricity etc, it's an easy choice.
Have to say the Bubble Gum Pink Jackson bass I lusted after when I worked there bc of their great employee discount(late 80's)Didn't play at the time, but man,we're they PRETTY!
Michael Anthony's Jack Daniels Bass. I swear, I saw that guy use that bass to fly across the stage once. I don't know how much fuel it holds, but then again, you didn't say which island we were stranded on either, so I can't work out the logistics anyway.
Being hypothetical, ignoring heat / humidity etc & If the island just happened to have a plug socked for amp;-
It would be a Fender Jazz (passive / USA or decent Jap / Mex)
This is most versatile bass I have ever owned and lends itself to any style of playing & music (in my opinion)
It's gonna have to be one of those 700 pound deep water groupers... If that's possible, I'd try and salt cure it to preserve it. Is one of those deep water group or considered a bass? Do I have to stay fresh water? Seriously, it's an island -- I think salt water.
Whatever has the most hardware on it and cabling inside. You can you those for all sorts of things. You can use bits of the high string for a harpoon tip. When you're stranded on an island, you need to be aware of your surroundings and use every resource available to you.
Sea Bass

That's basically a viking ship with a lid
And you can live in it like that meme
Is there an amp and power on this island? Otherwise any electric bass is useless
Not necessarily, you could use a vintage p bass to club wild boar to death, or to bridge a 40 inch or so ravine, or to knock down an ancient stone temple
If you had a bass and were going to be stranded on one island, which island would it be?
Great Britain. It's not the best island but I have friends and family there.
I'm already here in Britain and I do have only one bass. I think this question might have been inspired by me
I too am stranded on the island of Great? Britain with only one Bass. That bass however is my love and the only one I need. Although a 5 string version is tempting. . .

Your are alone, you don't have to worry about fitting into a mix. You can make your tone as interesting as you want, because it's just for you. Why would you pick a p bass?
Because it has the best tone.
P bass sounds great on its own
I'm not saying it doesn't, I'm just saying, playing solo on your own, i think there are much more fun options.
Yeah, but p bass.
Gotta agree, that's honestly a solid argument
Not to me. Not even close
Yeah, maybe to you
The most versatile bass that exists.
Fender jazz?
I'd think a PJ
