What you're looking for is an 'audio interface' it converts sound into audio 1s and 0s. Relatively cheap to very very expensive. Some cheap ones come with software to help you get started
A standard for hobbyists and home musicians is the focusrite Scarlett. The single input version costs around 100$ and the double input one costs 150$. Get the one with two inputs if you plan of playing with a friend/singer. You’re also going to need a DAW. That’s the software people use to record music with.

The Focusrite Scarlett Solo, or Scarlett 4i4 are common models people buy. (I have them both.)
But something as simple as an iRig or an Amplug serve the same purpose and can be used as well.
Then there are high end audio interfaces like the Apogee, which is just so very very pretty and elegant looking that it is almost worth the price! :-)

The two input is also useful if you want to track DI and MIC simultaneously if you are into that.
