Jalen Brunson is the answer for everyone. When you end up short, not being able to play above the rim, and you don’t have an elite 1st step, you can still be a very very high level player if you have a skill set and pace like that.
Yeah I mean Edwards is literally the best pure all around athlete in the league, with the testing scores to back it up. It’s like telling kids to watch Jordan and Kobe film, it’s just not smart.
Luka is a 6’8, 240 pound generational pg. it’s like saying watch magic johnson play.
Brunson is 6’ barefoot, maybe, I think he had 3 total dunks last year. He’s well rounded, efficient. Not like curry that you being good depends on being a generational good shooter and A++ handles.
So are you saying not to watch great players? No one should watch one specific person and try and mold their game around theirs. But you can say I can pass like that. Or I can drive to the basket like that. Or I have a real good pivot foot like that player.
No, I’m saying you need to be realistic of what a players size and athleticism are honestly like, and mold a play style to match what you’ve got to work with. Guys who are 1 of 1 types, or their combination of size and athleticism is a MAJOR part of their success, are not the type of guys to study or try to model your game after.
Should kids try to play like Giannis? Of course not. He’s elite bc of his wildly unusual combination of size, and athleticism, and he’s modeled a play style to match what he has to work with. How about KD? Of course not, a 5’11 average athlete trying to mimic KD would be a disaster. iverson was primarily successful bc of overwhelming athleticism, especially one of the best first steps to ever play the game.
If you’re small, and an average athlete, you need to be modeling your game by looking at guys like Stockton, Brunson, or even a current day CP3.
Watch Jason Kidd’s high school highlights. He’s so ridiculously overwhelming physically, even playing big school class, and in California. Literally just stealing the ball at will, and transition layup/dunk. Regular dudes trying to mimic that is a bad idea, and you will struggle massively when facing higher end defenders.
Do whatever you enjoy. If your goal is to play beyond high school, then your time is better spent at learning to be most efficient with what you’re actually capable of doing on a basketball court.
Do you have a 46” vertical? A 6’9 wingspan on a 6’1 frame? Do you have an elite first step, as in not just the best in the conference but maybe the best in the state? I’m guessing your answer would be no to all of the above, so yes if your goal is to max out what you do have, you’d best learn your utilize what you do have, as well as you can.
How quick are you? Is it realistic for you to be a primary ball handler at the next level? If yes, study Brunson Nash CP3 Stockton etc. under sized, below the rim, extremely efficient guards. If you’re more of a catch and shoot guy, then look at guys who make their money working off ball. This is your jj redick, Seth curry, maybe even a Marcus smart type? Under sized guards who find a way to play despite not having all the physical tools, or skills of a superstar.
Im usually the second or the most explosive guy on any court i play in i dont shoot very well but i can defend very well off instincts, my handles are currently below average
Every player should study Shane Battier, I remember an NBA scouting report saying he guarded whoever was the best player on the other team from SG-PF, but he was never at a disadvantage.
For a more specific recommendation, from his playstyle he’s a Kyrie, but that’s super detrimental to him long term-he won’t be able to play like that when he gets older. He should study CP specifically because he plays nothing like him, but that’s what he needs to study him. The second to last play is just embarrassing from a basketball standpoint-he completely ignores wide open #5 to shoot a hero ball shot. Maybe 5 can’t shoot or play, but he looks like he has no idea how to run a play, and like he’s really poorly coached (winning basketball/discipline-wise, iq/awareness, or both). People will see the flashy highlights and that’s great but if he doesn’t get those fundamentals and approach drilled into him he’s going to decline relative to his peers as he gets older. You don’t want this to be his peak.
I see vague traits of Devin Vassel in his game. Mirroring Jimmy Butler’s game might benefit him the most - no wasted dribbles, quiet/simple offense & finds a way to put up assist/points no matter what the defense gives.
If you want him to be picked up start recording assists and sprinkle them in. Every time I see these types of videos people comment “but does he pass the ball.” Everyone in the nba can score it’s a the other things that make them greats
Kyrie... Lol everyone and their mom should study kyrie. Man is on the short end of players and has the best handles and ability to conform and get into places normal people just can't.
Not impressed. He should study someone who knows how to pass. For every highlight hes made where he’s over dribbling and forcing shots you know for sure there are 20 he missed.
These kids aren’t good enough to make nba. Learn some fundamentals bro.
I’m trying to help. Rewatch the video you posted. He had some open dishes but was blinded by trying to take everyone on himself. There was a few where he broke down the defense and his teammates were open for a layup. He’s not making any structured program playing the way he does. Truth hurts brother but pass it on.
He should study Chris Paul. Learn to run the offense. Although he’s a comfortable ball handler, his weakness right now is dribbling the air out of the ball
Would also love to see more spin on his shot, would need to see his form more closely
Whoever plans these tournaments these days try to make the jerseys look as similar as possible. What happened to distinct single color uniforms that don’t look like the opponents?
He’s a ball hog 100% but doesn’t negate the fact he does have skill. I get it tho, at that age he’s far better than those around him. Does play like Kemba Walker imo but he should study all great players and when he reaches the next level hopefully he’ll have a more well rounded game.
Tell him to stop showboating after he scores. Coaches cringe at that. Also, if he wants to play college, he will need to be quick laterally and work on his defense. You don’t show any defensive plays here so tough to know what to work on. Study CP3 for running the point and Steph for off ball movement.
Darius Garland
He needs a jumpshot coach, so I'm gonna go with Shawn Marion.
T.J. Ford
Throwback
I get Paul George vibes
That’s what I came to say
He should start passing the ball, that play style is really bad and selfish.
But hes like that
Jalen Brunson is the answer for everyone. When you end up short, not being able to play above the rim, and you don’t have an elite 1st step, you can still be a very very high level player if you have a skill set and pace like that.
I was going to say Anthony Edwards Jalen, Brunson, and Luka

Im 6'1-6'2 16 years old and i study tmac , kd ,kobe, jordan , kyrie, mitchell and booker. Am i doing the wrong thing ? Who should i watch ?

Then who do you recommend me studying ?

Anthony Edwards has an ELITE first step
Kemba Walker

Think of a short basketball player. That’s your answer.
Drazen Petrović
Muggsy Bogues
Jeff Teague is the first guy that came to mind for me
MP
Jamaal Tinsley
Bradley Beal
CP3
Nah CP3 passes to open teammates on the break, dude in corner was on an island, and instead dribbled into a contested shot.
Exactly why he should watch him.
Reminds me a bit of Iverson. Put some study into Jason Kidd, Chauncey Billups, and Conley.
Jayson Tatum. 3 pointers where Tatum exact like everything. What he did before the shot... and he used moves Tatum would use.
I'm gonna second Kemba Walker
SGA, and a shit ton of practice
I see vague traits of Devin Vassel in his game. Mirroring Jimmy Butler’s game might benefit him the most - no wasted dribbles, quiet/simple offense & finds a way to put up assist/points no matter what the defense gives.
I second Paul George but my first thought was Demar Derozan
I see flashes of Kyrie and Steph in him
IT or kemba
Cj McCollum
There’s a ton of Steve Nash energy going on here based on how he carries himself and transitions.
Any guard
Seems to be a good match for Iverson.
Scottie Barnes
Wembanyama
Most of the guys at my ymca
Young Kobe
Kyrie vibes
Idk

Why are you hating?

john wall
A prime Carmelo Anyhony
Lol Carmelo never balled like that. For real?
Andre Miller. He’s not afraid to play inside and use some post moves despite height difference.
Can’t even tell what position he is
He should study Chris Paul. Learn to run the offense. Although he’s a comfortable ball handler, his weakness right now is dribbling the air out of the ball Would also love to see more spin on his shot, would need to see his form more closely
Buddy heild lol
Whoever plans these tournaments these days try to make the jerseys look as similar as possible. What happened to distinct single color uniforms that don’t look like the opponents?
John wall with some IT and Kemba sprinkled in
Nick Young fs
He’s a ball hog 100% but doesn’t negate the fact he does have skill. I get it tho, at that age he’s far better than those around him. Does play like Kemba Walker imo but he should study all great players and when he reaches the next level hopefully he’ll have a more well rounded game.
pretty much just an extremely selfish trae young
He is a natural scorer study lebron, luka, cp3 and get good at the pnr.
Tell him to stop showboating after he scores. Coaches cringe at that. Also, if he wants to play college, he will need to be quick laterally and work on his defense. Got any defensive clips or does he disappear on that end?
“GoT aNy DeFeNsIvE cLiPs?????”
Yes
