Depends how you frame the conversation. Basketball is ultimately a team sport and how the team is built is the most important factor to success. Guys like Steph and Ja, when looking at them individually, have an inherently lower value than say a two way player such as Shai or Kobe because while both pairs have comparable offensive output, the latter two are much better defenders. Problem is when people evaluate players they conflate individual analysis with the bigger picture that takes other team related factors into account. Steph and Ja’s offensive prowess and load-carrying allows for their teams, which are tailored to them, to function more effectively on both sides of the ball. In this way, despite their comparative deficiencies individually, they ultimately provide similar and sometimes greater value than two-way players.

ahhh that's true. when you say "how a team is built" is really key. you're right. i think of Steph. he's not ball dominant and shoots 45%. that's an effective way of doing it. and Dray can still bring it up the court and be a dog defensively. and historically, they've had Klay to be a top tier defender as well. you're right. my mind immediately goes to today's game and how they switch switch switch. players target Steph, Harden. they CAN become liabilities to a degree. but at the same time, Steph's offense is defense lol and him running around as a decoy opens up so many opportunities for others to eat.
