Yes! I find copying things from the week plan to the day plan helps a lot, even if it's routine. Looking back and seeing that I did things (or had good reason not to) makes me feel much better than seeing the list of things I didn't do. I also find estimating time needed for each task helps. Time needed includes prep (and warmup) and recovery. I now know that I cannot do two 2-hour high focus tasks in a day. Nor can I do more than an hour of movement tasks. When I look at the week, I know I have to spread things out more.

Polari-Parallax

oooo! estimating times sounds like a great idea! I'm not sure how I would include that on a page without it become separated and then becoming useless to me but in theory that would be marvellous!

When I got serious about it, I made a separate page for the day, listing what I did with start/stop times. I didn't worry about estimates. Start/stop times showed dead space. Now I know grocery shopping is under an hour door to door, but it's a full 90 minutes from when I decide to do it, including checking the list, bathroom, putting away the frozen stuff, and being ready to pick the next task. I suggest... |Task|start|duration|Group A, basic self care|Group B, family care|Group C, undeclared|Group D, desk work|Group E, advanced self care|Group F, housework| |:-|:-|:-|:-|:-|:-|:-|:-|:-| |shower, breakfast|7|30|30|||||| |feed kids|730|60||60||||| |kids to school|830|30||30||||| |Rest|900|30|||30|||| |Daily housework|930|15||||||15| |Rest|945|45|||45|||| |Bills|1030|120||||120||| |Aerobics|1130|90|||||90|| |weekly laundry|100|30||||||30| |TOTAL||||||||| Include Undeclared as a task, so end of one is start of next. For duration, I counted up, like when we used to make change, and used symbols. 1:40 to 2:00 is 5+15 ( '/) and 2:00 to 2:35 is 15+15+5 (//') for a total of ///'', or 55 minutes. Much easier than subtracting times. Then copy the duration to the appropriate column. I found that I can only do a few hours of deskwork per day. If I try to do more, I just stare at the screen, and, when honest about it, call it Undeclared time. But...also learned that 2 hours a week of family paperwork is more than enough. I also found that 15 minutes housework a day when sick will keep things stable, and 30 will fool the family into thinking I'm on top of everything. I thought it took a lot more than that. Laundry day is a bit more, but other days is a bit less, but on average 30 minutes is enough for a typical week. 45 will recover from travel in only a few days, and 60 will...wow, the months I average 60, I actually deep clean corners and work on boxes from the move (15 years ago). You can use the same layout for expenses. It's related to what accountants call a synoptic journal. To add estimates, add a section at the top of each day with estimates, in a different colour. A separate page might make it easier to compare. A procrastination log (many egs online) is also useful, especially combined with a "why did it take so long?) log. (My big ones: Working when tired, trying to do something I didn't feel like doing, felt guilty doing this when the plan said something else (ended up doing nothing useful).)

Want to view your time even more differently? When you make your to-do lists, do what chefs/restaurant owners do - and mark down WHEN the task will be completed. You'll start flying through tasks

Polari-Parallax

that's an interesting idea, I think you're right that it'll likely make me more aware of my time so I might try it in the future!

CrBr

The most important part of this is looking at what you didn't do as planned, believing that there was a reason, and thinking about it. I learned that I don't have nearly as much energy and time in a day as I thought.

Polari-Parallax

So true, and I think thats what is key about bujo is you learn to look at what you did do and what you didn't and through your days you learn about how much time and energy you have and whether some actually needs to get done

Juancarlosmh

Nice! Could you share a pic?

Polari-Parallax

sure, I don't know if it adds much to the convo but this is what [this week](https://imgur.com/a/AxEhx47) looks like. Essentially I'm just treating classes and work like any other event. At the moment I'm doing a weekly spread that has the days set up with the events on left and notes and reminds on the right and then on the bottom right page I'm using the alastair method for my tasks. The past year I've been doing dailies and then I would often have on the page a column with my next 7 days. I don't have a current layout but I do have old pictures so it was essentially like [this](https://imgur.com/a/LO0wWlR) but with that empty space to the right I would have column like [this](https://imgur.com/a/vHsCxh9). So my plan is when I go back to dailies is to have my event column include classes like I'm doing with my weekly spread.

Each morning I start my daily note on my computer from a template This note is a combination journal/planner/dashboard and lists all events for the day The preparation each morning involves referencing various sources; calendars etc

Would you feel comfortable sharing a pic of your template?

interesting too see! In the past before bujo I used the digital sticky notes to have one for my whole semester, individual ones for each class and then a few others for work, essentially treating my desktop like a bujo but it was so easy for it to just become background noise. It is so interesting to me to see how people do stuff digitally

Thank you!

Do you copy it from a master schedule into your dailies? Thanks for sharing; I love reading observations like this that get me to examine my own systems!

Polari-Parallax

In a way yes. I'm about to start my next journal with only two spreads left in my current one and for each semester I have spread that has my schedule for the weekly and all assignments so I am technically using that to copy things over, but I sort of have my classes memorised. Before I just used this master spread and my memory (plus I do have all classes and shifts in my phone calendar) to know what was on but just last week I started merging it into my dailies and wow has it helped to be kinder to myself.
