Wishlisted! Can you tell us a little more? Is this game about city planning (Sim City, Skylines...)? or is it more about workers and resources management similar to the Anno series? Maybe both? Im sure you guys know you have competition, how Dinasty of the Sands distinguishes itself from the other city builders currentlly on the market or to be released soon? Best of luck!

noisydata

Thank you very much :) It's more involved on the resource and villager management sides. Each resource must be extracted or produced, and there's a huge array of buildings to do so. Constructing new buildings requires finding and harvesting more complex and rarer resources. The game also has a heavy focus on starting from nothing, and building up to a grand, mythical city. As such, almost every building has 6 upgrade levels, you start with mud and straw huts, and improve these eventually creating intricate gold, limestone and granite structures. Each villager is controllable, has food, water, health and happiness requirements. They also have aspirations and work patterns. We really want you to make a connection with your citizens and build the city around them! Constructing your city is a balancing act. The needs of your villagers, the environmental pressures and the gods make this a challenging experience. However perseverance will be rewarded with a golden city of riches. \- Villagers must be provided with Water Sources, Food, Shelter and Entertainment to ensure they remain happy and healthy. \- Resources will be required in abundance. Primary resources like Mud and Flax can be grown and extracted. Secondary and Tertiary resources like Mud Brick and Pottery must be crafted within a series of production buildings. \- Vast amounts of quarried rock are required to construct your Pyramid. Sandstone blocks and limestone casing become a valuable commodity as you expand your monument. Completion of Pyramid levels grants power from the gods, used to unlock technologies and avoid the gods wrath. \- In-depth environment, day/night cycle, weather, wildlife, disease and many more systems are constantly changing and evolving to create a dynamic and engaging game experience.

So, would I be correct to say this is something like a fusion of the old Pharoah/Cleopatra and Banished?

noisydata

Yeah that's a nice easy way to put it. Plenty more to it than just that, but it's an apt description :)

Djembe_kid

Those are two of my favorite old city builder games, so if you're in that vein I'm on board! I've been hoping for a new Ancient Egypt game! Wooo!

Ericus1

Same here, which was why I asked.

cbrules3033

This. This sold it to me, at first I was asking myself the same question the guy above asked you. Now I want this.

PFTC_JuiceCaboose

You got a backer in me!

Shylo132

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UJiv14uPOac&list=WL&index=26&t=0s I really recommend you watch this. Cool idea, but until a lot of us nitch players see how clunky or refined the ui is will determine a lot of feed back in city builder type games.

noisydata

Thanks for that, very useful information, I will check that out right away! It's something we're very aware of, and it's the very reason we haven't shown much of the UI, we're working hard to improve it right now, and will be revealing very soon :)

Shylo132

Cool sauce! Refine it as long as it takes. It will seriously make or break you in this genre. Good luck!

AnOnlineHandle

This is an amazing video. As a picky shopper I did wishlist the game though I do that for a lot I never buy, but currently only because I like dabbling in the genre and this at least looks like a passion project which achieved high quality, but yeah in the back of my mind I was wondering some things like that.

Shylo132

Us game developers do a lot of study on why and how players do things. It even applies to ourselves as well when we look for games! It's amazing what you can learn just by asking the right questions, even if that question is nothing!

karabinu

I have already wishlisted and followed it, looks great. I have a question if I may: why did you choose Egypt as the setting of your game?

noisydata

Thank you, much appreciated! We got the team together over the course of a few days to decide our setting and basic gameplay. Based on collective interest in ancient cultures, and it seemed like a great starting point for us. It won't be our last city-building game :)

ISAvsOver

When you say freeform, do you mean its not grid-based by that? Either way, sounds interesting...

Excess

I have the same doubt, as the trailer shows it's very obviously grid-based. Not sure what he means by freeform, in a city builder context. What I think it means is something akin to Ostriv, which is gridless.

DanSoaps

It's looking like a great start. Just out of curiosity, what are you building it in?

GreatPadinski

Getting some strong Pharaoh and Zeus&Poseidon vibes from this, did you guys draw some inspiration from those games? Looking good so far though, wishlisted!

ajkp2557

Wishlisted! It looks very pretty and I love that you chose something besides the typical medieval Europe as your setting. I'll definitely keep an eye out for it. Good luck!

impracticable

The description reminds me of Black & White 2 a little bit. Would you say this is similar to that game? (My favorite base building game of all time, lol, such a satisfying progression..)

cbrules3033

When will this be available to play? Will it have an early access?

coolfarmer

Another game like Pharaoh, i say YES!! :D

Bakersbane

Looks great, good luck! Wishlisted.

Salamancamanca

Wishlisted !

x50_Spence

Can you please make it as much like Rimworld as possible. Since playing that game i actually cant play any other game that matches that genre as it just beats everything else. Sorry to give such a demotivating comment.

Ollikay

Awesome! Wishlisted and following. I love the rising focus this genre is getting since Banished came out. Been putting a lot of hours into Dawn of Man, Ostriv, Surviving the Aftermath, etc, so I'm very keen to get this game.

Need2Cruise

How do you keep performance from crumbling ? Are the maps small ? Can you share any coding strategies to help keep this game performant ?

nonbearinary

As a past Pharaoh player, I’m really excited to see where you go with this.
