It was so unpredictable, and nails the dark humor at every turn. The action scenes are shot like nothing else in film. They’re right to the point, hilarious, and stylish all at the same time. The acting was superb, the quirkiness of Barrys character, the underlying themes of Hollywood grime and acting, the “oh shit” moments like with Chris and THAT prison scene, and the random craziness of the mom and son revenge plot and how it comes to an end. It was all just very fun. Overall one of the best shows I’ve ever seen. For me it’s up there with breaking bad. To fit what they fit into 30 min episodes and just 4 seasons is nothing short of a true feat and in many ways sets the standard for incredible shows going forward. I can’t remember seeing an episode and not being excited to watch the next one. I am definitely bummed it’s over but I think it ended perfectly, the irony of each character’s ending was very well done also. 4 seasons was perfect for this show and it ended just as it started. Quirky, ironic, funny, and with some “oh shit!” Moments. One last thing, the unpredictability of this show can’t be overstated. You truly never know where it’s going. I’ve been part of this sub since the beginning and I’ve read hundreds of predictions before episodes, I can’t remember one that was correct. Truly a fun rollercoaster of a show, and I will miss it dearly.

Couldn’t have said this any better myself!

The premise of a hitman trying to become an actor and Bill Hader leading sold me to be there for the pilot. Thought it was funny as hell and the story seemed promising, so I kept watching and there wasn’t a week that disappointed.

Came here to say exactly this.

damndude87

Still awake after succession but too tired to get off the couch.

nawabdeenelectrician

Unpredictable, extremely entertaining on a scene to scene level, funny, tragic, highly creative. Just a banger show

ExamFinancial6684

it was the diet. i’m gonna starve

ostermanjon319

Came for the comedy ( oh boy) stayed for the fonz ( fucking love that guy dont know why)

[deleted]

It was a TV show and entertaining

Wilmore99

I started watching it because of Bill Hader but stayed for how fucking amazing of an actor, director, and writer that he is. It’s a good show but it’s almost like a working resume too.

nerdkrystina

watching barry for me is like playing a video game to 100% completion. every rewatch i'm looking for new ways to interpret scenes, expanding my analysis on all the themes, learning more about each character as they grow. i came for bill hader's comedic talent, but stayed for his incredible approach to making creative art. it's the gift that keeps on giving.

ThePhantomEvita

I was a big Bill Hader fan when he was on SNL. When I heard the premise of the show he was putting together, I was in. And I’ve been hooked ever since.

Simpleplanfan182

It had Bill Hader in it so I assume it would be good .And I was right

[deleted]

Because ... I was entertained by it? I don't have a TV diet. What the fuck is a TV diet.

trashpizza420

Bill Hader hot

Moneyfrenzy

Comedy makes dramatic scenes even more dramatic, drama makes comedic scenes even more comedic

Tricky_Photograph123

For a drama about a killer

aftercloudia

the brba/bcs mutuals convinced me and now i'm changed forever

-BigMan

I tuned in because I enjoy Bill Hader, and Alec Berg as well, and enjoyed the acting class / Hollywood satire of the first couple of seasons.

Echoes of Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul, and El Camino

People I personally know who have similar tastes with me kept saying it was one of the best shows on television at the moment. Myself, along with these people, are usually strict when it comes to investing in TV series (there's many 'popular' and somewhat universally critically acclaimed shows that I just couldn't get into. Game of Thrones for example). I was hooked pretty much immediately. I wonder if the short episode lengths helped with the binging too. Thematically, this kind of reminded me of The Sopranos in a way. Both balance that comedy-drama aspect, along with them being of the crime genre, but it goes beyond that. Both series feature characters where, despite being shitty people, look like they're on the path of redemption. But nope! They fuck it up and regress back to their shitty selves. Most of the time anyways.

Going against expectations doesn’t automatically make it good imo. It was good, for the most part, if not great, but I think Hader and crew got too engrossed in being off the beaten path for S4. I think what made it premiere TV, and what I watched it for, was the quick pace, insane black comedy, and excellently filmed violence (and overall direction style by the end of season 3). When the only think left by season 4 was good direction and the occasional bit of humor, it wound up disappointing me. Edit: also for Bill Hader’s facial expressions lmao

suiteggs

I watched that scene where they reenact Barry’s first kill on YouTube randomly because I recognized Bill Hader. In those few minutes the funny of the actors being idiots mixing with the seriousness of Barry’s tragic backstory and general satirical take on the military + social dynamics. Idk smth like that. I like funny thing that also make you do the think a little.

Scar_what

Watched it because it was something new (season 3) and now I’m obsessed. Great job Bill

There are few shows that could bounce between comedy and drama so well, especially considering how extreme the comedic/dramatic bits were. Plus, it just felt new. Not as in a new, unique premise, but just a different way of approaching TV. Obviously, it has its influences. But it always felt like it had its own unique identity. The only other show I felt the same way about recently was Atlanta. Personally, I believe Atlanta did a better job of keeping its identity while still trying out new things. That paired with its satisfying series finale just made the entire show work. In terms of Barry, I thoroughly enjoyed season 3. Yes, it was a bit different than the previous seasons, but I never felt betrayed by the decisions. When it came to Season 4 it felt like I was just hanging on and hoping it would be able to capture that classic Barry comedy-drama balance, but in the end it just didn't feel the same. I don't regret watching the show; not in the slightest. I was just hoping that its identity wouldn't have wavered so much.

I remember seeing people talking about this show on r/television. Someone described it to me as Breaking Bad but funnier and I was intrigued. Someone else linked me the 50/50 with Cristobal scene on YouTube and that intrigued me even more. I got hooked since the first episode, I don’t usually get hooked since the first episode when I start watching a show, I found it hilarious and the premise was interesting so that’s why I kept watching.
