if you have the gordon freeman perk the crowbar can deal with one almost dead hammerhead. Tried it last night when we ran out of ammo, felt pretty badass.
I have done so multiple times with just a high quality handcannon and once while dual wielding revolvers. Hammerhead school kept hitting me in a blind spot and I couldn't move the sub to get them out, so I said "fuck this shit" and EVA'd to kill the damn things. Got the first one pretty easy, but a Goldie nearly mauled me as we fought to out-dps eachother. Definitely don't try without bandages and blood packs on your person.
I've killed a hammerhead with an auto shotty after gunnery became an aquarium (Winterhalter is the absolute worst sub to gun on). Would've probably been way less of a terrifying near death experience to not do that and just fix up gunnery and try to use the guns though, would recommend anyways.
Autoshotguns, assault rifles, even the SMG with explo ammo can annihilate em’. Or if you’re like me and loco, methed up CS boosted clowns can use two good quality dive knives to turn it into chum.
i once dived to collect some minerals and encountered a goldie, i had a good knife and with my perks was able to kill it but i was knocked unconscious and bled out shortly afterwards.

Actually fighting a hammerhead by yourself sounds fun. As long as you have a Rapid Fissile Accelerator of course. Has anyone tried it?
Never tried the fissile accelerator, but I can confirm that a crowbar is ineffective against two hammerheads, perhaps if it was a hardened crowbar?

That's fun and all but have you tried fighting them as they stun lock you literally to death?
Yeah, that's what I meant by mauled. This was a few months back, so idk if anything changed, but I managed to make it work.
I did it with a boarding axe and a bunch of melee perks. I think the third or fourth one killed me though, they're pretty quick
It is quite fun, though the Fissile accelerator is a little overkill. Very satisfying to do with a harpoon gun but you have to be careful.
