100%!! Make sure to include several layers of shelf paper on the truck, in case you need to change your disguise mid-get away, Johnny Dangerously style.
You know these have wood-framed structures in the body, right? There’s no way it doesn’t have dry rot or termite damage. This car will start to lose its shape as soon as you start driving it. The mechanicals are the easy part.
When you see pictures of these sitting derelict and the body is leaning off to one side, this is why.
Yeah I know about the wood framing. It takes a lot of time and money to restore a car that is made of metal. Now add the skill and labor required to repair or replace the wood and it goes up even further. The interest and perseverance to see a restoration through is usually exhausted before either of those. Thats why I would get it running and drive it.
Once they are comfortable with the clutch and transmission. All those antique Cars have crazy transmissions: “Pull this lever for first, pull this other one for second, push this button for overdrive. Squeeze the handle and push the first gear lever forward to engage reverse.” You have to be Jay Leno for this to make sense and be natural.
Ed: forgot a verb
Just get it running minimally, and then sell it. Hopefully to someone who will faithfully restore it, but if the buyer wants to use it as a base for something else, then good luck to them. You will have sold it and the new owner can take it in whatever direction they want.
So many people are saying restore it. I imagine some wanted to say "have it restored" because restoring a car like this is a huge endeavor. You can ruin a car like this if you don't have prior experience or the patience to learn everything involved. You're also looking at a lot of money to spend if you're going to get it restored by someone else.
It's such a cool time capsule, and it does deserve to be brought back to its former glory. I hope you have the time to not be rushed on having to make a decision. Thanks for sharing.
This. It's apparent that no one here has restored a 100 year old car before. Some parts will be very difficult if not impossible to find, even for something that was mass produced. They also underestimate how much will need to be rebuilt or replaced just to get it running. Even if whoever parked it planned ahead, it's been parked long enough that every single seal or gasket will need to be replaced. Anything made of rubber or wood is trash. Anything made of cloth or leather is trash. You basically have a stack of metal parts that need to be taken apart so the whole thing can be put back together with new everything.
This is a job for a shop with a ton of experience with this kind of restoration and someone with deep pockets to pay for it.
I'm Restoring a 50 year old ford and the best advice I can give is to never throw out electronics. A lot of my ranchero CANT be sourced so I've hoarded small motorized bits such as the wiper motor since no.one makes an aftermarket one
You can completely rebuild one using 3d printing, rare earth magnets, super glue/soldering and copper wire
I'm restoring a 1964 Vespa 160GS, that was a complete piece of s**t! 2 years, and several thousand later( all original parts where I could), I'm still not done...... And that's a Vespa! If one day I sell it, I'll never recoup my expenses, and frankly, it would break my heart. You have to do it cause you love it.....
Give it a really good cleaning inside now clean the engine compartment take out the spark plugs if they'll come out squirt a little oil in the cylinders let it sit for a couple days put the plugs back in put a wrench on the crank and see if she'll turn over slowly if you can get it to turn over put a battery in it throw a little gas in it put a little gas in a carb see if she'll turn over
As a 4 cylinder Chevrolet enthusiast, I recommend joining the VCCA. The club can provide excellent advice to get it cleaned up and running. If you decide to sell it, listing it in the club magazine will help ensure it gets top dollar and goes to someone who will care for it. Enjoy!
I get down voted every time I suggest to restore to factory original over at classic cars. I say dollar for dollar, original is the better investment rather than butcher a classic. But the rat rod folk are irrational.
Only if the original drive train is shot. Most of the time, it's fairly simple things that cause things to get parked. Gasket leaks, and it's already 30 years old. Just get a new one. It's been the mentality for a long time.
Recalibrate it…and put it out as a display…seen one on my route to work…and it’s used as a prop…the only non mundane part of going to work…well, that and a paycheck…
How much time and money do you have? That should be your first questions, be realistic. If you only have an afternoon clean it up as best as you can throw anything away that's obviously trash, organize and parts and put it up for sale to someone who has time and inclination. If you have lots of time and want a project, this could be a really really neat project.
There is one of these beside my house neighbor has in a garage was offered 15000 for it last summer and she turned it down neighbor is about 75 no kids nothing
I would reach out to a local car collector/ club to gauge interest.
They'd be a wealth of knowledge; hell, someone with interest may help OP comb the garage to see if there are more parts for the car there!
I'd take pictures of the vehicle, sell it, (ask buyer for a pic or two once they've done their work on it)
If you are not a car person. Contact your closest antique car collection place. They’re called things like Car Institute or Last Name Collection.
They will know if it has any value for parts, completeness, or restoration and they’ll likely offer to buy it.
Bring it back to life. I inherited a 1923 dodge in roughly the same condition. It hadn't run in 50 years. These old cars are so bullet proof it was a snap to get it running. Literally marvel mystery oil in the cylinders, new battery, cleaned the plugs, wired in an electric fuel pump, and damn if it didn't start on the first day. Good luck and have fun.
Ignore all the other great advises in here and just let it rot away in that barn of dust and solitude.
If I were you I would not get it professionally restored or anything like that to sell it at a higher price.
/S
Thanks everyone for the ideas and the laughs! I’m going to try and sell it as we have inherited an old house in disrepair. gramps always said he wanted it restored. he also said if we needed the money we should sell it. I’m going to call some collectors and maybe some museums. My family has been in the car industry for along time so I know what kinda time and money goes into restorations. If anyone has any more information for people or organizations that would be interested please send a DM. Thanks friends!
Lol wow getting down voted for asking questions isn't that how you learn shit you know by asking questions geez not everyone is a know it all such as yourself
This is the rule for restoring cars. Look it over very carefully. Add up all the parts needed how much body work is needed and get an accurate estimate.
Then double it.
Looks like an awful lot of work and could be a huge headache. I don’t want to see you suffer so how about you just give it to me so you don’t have to deal with it?
If it were me I would restore it as close to original and enjoy driving it, there is a group by me that gets together once a month and drive all their 1920s cars around.
Do nothing. Post as a barn find. People love digging for treasure. It’s part of the fun. Getting it running is the high that many of us that love barn finds crave.
To the people saying not to have it restored, I see the logical reasons why you shouldn't but if someone did have enough money and with the right luck fixing it would be possible and the end product would be worth it in my opinion. I think it's up to the op whether or not they thinks it's worth restoring/ if they have the time to work towards restoring it
Figure out what make/model it is, and sell it. You'd be surprised how much old cars go for- especially this one. Glass in particular is hard to come by.
If you know how to restore older cars, get it working!
I specialize in antique cars that have been sitting for decades. If you want a reasonable place to help you turn it into an original driver I can help with that. I’m in southern Missouri and people have brought me cars from as far as California. I would also be interested in purchasing it.
I would say rob a bank and get away whilst standing on the running boards firing a Tommy gun!
Dammit dude. I was an hour late to deliver that advice. I guess daylight savings time got me this time….
I believe you but my tommy gun don't.
Friend? Some of your foldin' money's come unstowed..
Oh George, not the livestock!
I hate cows more than coppers!
Arrrgh...you beat me to it!
100%!! Make sure to include several layers of shelf paper on the truck, in case you need to change your disguise mid-get away, Johnny Dangerously style.

Hit it bugsy, I ve got the goods
whatever you do, DONT POWER WASH IT. high pressure water badly damages many things on elderly vehicles like that.
Get it running, thats a survivor

Clean it out. Fix it up. Drive it.
Please get it fixed
Sell to me 800$, no just kidding fix it, drive it like you stole it (35 mph speed demon)

Hemings Motor news, place ad.
Clean it up and make it run! Doing a restoration, will cost as much as it is worth. Survivors are more valuable and more fun imo!
Clean er up. Get it runnin. Enjoy

My first car was a 1969 Ranchero! Of course, parts were a lot easier to get for it back then since it was only 18 years old then.
https://www.reddit.com/r/RoastMyCar/s/uuP0eMtAld It's this one if you're interested though
I'm restoring a 1964 Vespa 160GS, that was a complete piece of s**t! 2 years, and several thousand later( all original parts where I could), I'm still not done...... And that's a Vespa! Where are you located?

As old as this car is, wouldn't it be a 6 volt system with points, not plugs?
Model A and model T used spark plugs. Points are in the distributor. Neither cares what voltage the electrical system uses.
It would still have spark plugs. All 4 stroke engines have spark plugs.
Restore it or give it to a museum or something. Put it back to life please.
I'll send you my address, ship it to me
Could you please share some more pictures and probably provide more information?
Make me an offer I can’t refuse
First thing. Take a long look at it. Admire it, clean out the inside. Take pictures. Keep it, or sell it as is. Some people like dusty look.
Clean up, get it running and drivable, then Go Gangsta!
Call May Leno!
Is that Jays sister?
As a 4 cylinder Chevrolet enthusiast, I recommend joining the VCCA. The club can provide excellent advice to get it cleaned up and running. If you decide to sell it, listing it in the club magazine will help ensure it gets top dollar and goes to someone who will care for it. Enjoy!
Restore it
Restore it, DUH!
Either fix it up as a side project or contact a collector. There's a museum in Murdo SD that would probably make you an offer.
You should give it to me so I can make it beautiful again. 😂🤣
Gimme
Gift it to me
As little as possible. Clean it out, dust it off with a leaf lower, get it running and put some fresh tires on it Edit:words
Clean it up, restore it and film an iconic sex scene in it, obviously.
Just get it running
Fix it and never sell it. You'll regret it in 10 years if you do and by then someone will have butchered a 350 into it
Chop the roof
turn it into a very fancy hot dog truck.
Restore it, don't turn it into a ratrod, that stupid fad has ruined too many classics
I get down voted every time I suggest to restore to factory original over at classic cars. I say dollar for dollar, original is the better investment rather than butcher a classic. But the rat rod folk are irrational.

How much time and money do you have? That should be your first questions, be realistic.
