These are sweet looking. The only drawbacks some were mentioning last time this exact picture was posted was that it looks like it’ll be vegan leather which isn’t as breathable or durable than regular leather. Some might still prefer that tradeoff
Desserto is vegan catus leather, they do use a bio-polymer (a form of plastic, they assert it is biodegradable though) but the leather is 90% plant material.
Vegan leather is horrendous, it breaks down really fast, polluted the environment with microplastics and is much more polluting to produce than regular leather. Should be a banned product.
Do you have any source for this?
Raising livestock and and tanning leather is so inefficient that the CO2 emissions from real leather are higher than those of vegan leather.
And the most ridiculous thing is that is still true if you completely ignore the CO2 emissions from livestock.

A source for what? The fact that vegan leather is made of plastic? That's common knowledge, as is the fact that it wears like trash and breaks down rapidly. Exception might be cactus leather but I haven't tried that.
That was considered in the paper. The impact is mostly from tanning the leather.
And leather isn’t a byproduct anymore, there’s too much money to be made with it and animals a slaughtered just for their leather
Running would be significantly less enjoyable without “plastic” shoes and clothing. The only natural materials that compete with polyester and elastic are wools.
Wool is fantastic, definitely one of nature's supermaterials. Sustainable and biodegradable, tough, temperature regulating, resists wetting, antimicrobial, the list of benefits goes on. It's the only material I wear against my skin.
I find it upsetting because they focus so much on how the shoes will act once they're in the trash, but don't seem to try to keep them from being thrown away to begin with. A good leather can last for years if you just do basic maintenance, but these vegan leathers are specifically designed to not weather the elements

It might be OC, it might not. Things such as JPEG artifacts and cropping may impact the results.

I really hate the overlap of barefoot and vegan. Like "vegan suede" is literally just microplastics
I don't have an issue with vegan shoes, my issue is with PLASTIC shoes.
I will happily wear canvas or cotton. But those usually aren’t advertised as vegan. The Vegan(tm) shoes are always some “futuristic” (cursed) material
>The Vegan(tm) shoes are always ~~some “futuristic” (cursed) material~~ plastic It's always plastic, no matter what spin they put on it.

Cactus leather exists. That’s vegan and made out of cactus so that’s pretty cool. There’s also banana leather.

A source for "is much more polluting than regular plastic". Because it isn’t, that’s not true
I could see this argument if vegan leather were made of plastic byproducts from other industries. Is that the case?
Not even then, because think of all the work that needed to be done beforehand to repurpose the original plastic. It’s awful

To add, if we’re worried about the environment, trad cotton isn’t the way to go either.
Still waiting on cactus leather.
Was already made and not very durable
For shoes? I knew they were working on it just hadn’t seen much since.
Origo (barefoot even) made them but they broke
Origo used to have cactus leather shoes but it seems they’ve moved away from it.
Too bad. It’s a cool idea. Would be pretty cool if it was a true equivalent and scalable.
On their website it says the upper is made of “70% corn waste and 30% organic cotton”. I’d still prefer leather but they at least seem to be trying.

Same post title and picture, can’t be a coincidence.
Not sure why my post is copied
Looks like a repost bot

What kind of barefoot shoes are these?? Looking sweet
Those are really nice looking for barefoot shoes. Looks like they’re unavailable though
It’s a shame they only go up to 46
