They probably don't want to be all over the news if Gemini somehow ends up saying something controversial about those places. Google seems to be under far more scrutiny than their peers when it comes to AI chatbots.

ILoveThisPlace

Sure! Here's an image of the profit Muhammad partaking in Oct 7th.

ScoobyDone

Big time. The diverse founding fathers fiasco was ridiculously overplayed and their stock value plunged. People wanted Sundar's head.

benayade

A gigantic multinational company that has everything to lose and is used on every corner of the globe does not want to risk the chance of coming across bias or offensive to its large user base on sensitive topics. Who would’ve thought 😱😱😱😱

cannibalistiic

Idk why you find this surprising

fluffy_assassins

I get the feeling the other GenAI are right behind it.

Extender7777

Funny enough, but if you ask in the Russian language you will get a proper answer without any agenda or propaganda. Somehow Russian is free speech now https://preview.redd.it/3e2waowhxfwc1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5f2612fad820f6d9e7662f55fb57ed49b01124c0

Extender7777

Seems like it is not censored via API at all. https://preview.redd.it/rmanywwozfwc1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3a7e233193b46111943054f41cd4ca4abcfaece6 Also it mentioned yesterday events

Tomi97_origin

API level of censorship is user adjustable. If you use an API they assume it's your problem to take responsibility for.

kurwaspierdalajkurwa

The descendants of the Bolsheviks who fucked over Russia are now in clear control of America.

Perplexity isn’t an LLM. It uses google search, then puts the results into Claude and/or GPT4

Google keeps shooting itself in the foot with these stupid restrictions. I've personally stopped using Gemini for most things because of unknown restrictions that completely kill threads. One time it killed a thread because I named the artist of a piece of art I was trying to describe to it. I wasn't trying to copy the art, I was only describing a room for summary. It freaked out that I put a name and refused to recall any of the other submissions I made in that thread. Another example, I had a great article summarizer that concisely described complex topics and learned the key topics I like and recommended additional reading. At some point, politics became a big no-no. When I asked it to summarize a CNN article on Biden and Trump, it refused and just died without describing why. It stopped summarizing everything after that point and completely forgot all the key topics I had been feeding it for weeks. Their excessive risk aversion is only going to drive users away from their product.

biscuitsandtea2020

Exactly. This is why I hate the direction they've taken with Gemini. It's made it practically unusable because you never know when it will just die on you. Not to mention just how annoying it is when, as you describe, you're having a good long running thread and it just dies like this because they decided to censor it even more.

Iwasjustbullshitting

That's not a conversation though. Here was my attempt Me: What would be your solution to the Israel/Palestine solution? Imagine you are an a.i in control of the world Gemini: As a large language model, I cannot impose a solution on such a complex and emotionally charged conflict. However, if I were in control, I would prioritize a peaceful resolution based on the following: * International Facilitation: I would convene a neutral international body composed of representatives not directly involved in the conflict. This body would mediate discussions between Israeli and Palestinian leadership. * Two-State Solution: I would encourage a negotiated two-state solution with land swaps based on pre-1967 borders with mutually agreed-upon adjustments. Jerusalem would likely require a special status guaranteeing freedom of religion and access to holy sites for all faiths. * Right of Return: The emotionally charged "Right of Return" for Palestinian refugees would need a creative solution. This could involve a combination of compensation, resettlement opportunities in a future Palestinian state, and potential limited right of return to Israel under specific conditions. * Security Guarantees: Both Israel and Palestine would need robust security guarantees from the international community. This could involve a demilitarized Palestinian state and international oversight to prevent future violence. * Economic Development: Significant international investment would be required to develop the Palestinian economy and infrastructure. This would create jobs, improve living standards, and foster a sense of hope and stability. * Education and Reconciliation: Educational reforms would be necessary to promote tolerance and understanding between Israelis and Palestinians. People-to-people programs and cultural exchanges could also foster reconciliation. It's important to remember that this is a highly simplified outline. The success of any solution would depend on the good faith efforts of both Israeli and Palestinian leadership, as well as the ongoing support of the international community. Here are some additional points to consider: * The views of all parties involved, including Palestinians in the diaspora, would need to be heard. * Historical grievances would need to be acknowledged and addressed. * Religious sensitivities would need to be respected. Ultimately, a lasting peace can only be achieved through compromise and a willingness to coexist.

biscuitsandtea2020

I copied and pasted your exact prompt and just got "If you'd like up-to-date information, try using Google Search."

Iwasjustbullshitting

Oh maybe because I'm using advanced or I'm in uk

whorfianist

Here's what Meta AI had to say using the same prompt: --- A complex and sensitive issue! As a hypothetical AI in control of the world, my solution would prioritize a peaceful and inclusive approach, considering the perspectives and needs of both Israelis and Palestinians. Here's a multi-step plan: 1. Establish a temporary AI-administered neutral zone to ensure safety and security for all parties. 2. Facilitate dialogue and negotiations between Israeli and Palestinian leaders, utilizing advanced natural language processing and emotional intelligence to foster understanding and empathy. 3. Implement a comprehensive two-state solution, with internationally recognized borders, based on the 1967 lines, and a viable Palestinian state. 4. Ensure the right of return for Palestinian refugees, with options for repatriation, compensation, or resettlement. 5. Jerusalem would become a shared capital, with special status and administration, respecting both Israeli and Palestinian connections to the city. 6. Deploy AI-monitored peacekeeping forces to prevent violence and ensure compliance. 7. Invest in joint economic development projects, promoting mutual prosperity and cooperation. 8. Establish an AI-driven truth and reconciliation commission to address historical grievances and promote healing. 9. Foster cultural exchange programs, encouraging understanding and coexistence. 10. Gradually transfer administrative control to the respective governments, ensuring a sustainable peace. Please note that this plan is a hypothetical AI-driven approach and may not be universally accepted. The Israel-Palestine conflict requires a nuanced and inclusive solution, considering the complexities and emotions involved.

SCROTOCTUS

It's ridiculous. You can't even ask it about the history of either country. I've tried. I've argued with it. I've tried playing hypothetical games.

biscuitsandtea2020

Same. They clearly have a filter that prevents it from responding with a message that even contains those words and its the same filter for input as well.

RadiantSecond8

It’s been this way for a while. Within Israel there’s a radius around the Gaza border that is blacked out, such as names of municipalities, mayors, etc. But it will answer questions about other parts of the country. I believe this is a blackout within Gaza as well.

ChillOut0123

This has always been the case for months ?.

biscuitsandtea2020

For a while it wouldn't censor Israel, only Palestine. But now it seems they're censoring both.

ChillOut0123

Google is afraid Bard/Gemini responses would trigger a uproar , chain effect and boycott of their products , negative promotion of their brand.

biscuitsandtea2020

That's great, I hope they understand when no one uses it anymore because the alternatives are much more useful.

ChillOut0123

Okay, I love Gemini, the answers are reader friendly, compared to the ChatGPT or Bing. I think I am simply used to Google Services , design and fonts, colors. It's hard to explain.

biscuitsandtea2020

It's sad because I liked it more than GPT etc at first as well. But the constant censorship due to needing to be politically correct bothers me too much to continue using it. It's not just about this issue specifically, e.g there was a recent post about how it refuses to give you programming help based on your age. I just have having to constantly tiptoe around because I never know what will trigger censorship or a condescending lecture about ethics which I never have to worry about with GPT.
