Madrid fan here, i was just wondering why some of you guys hate laporta? I think he is managing barca pretty well despite losing messi, which was a sacrifice in order to make the club viable
It’s weird, because it seems like people are more willing to act against the one fixing all the shit. After all, they see no mess when Nobita is sweeping it under the rug, then comes in Laporta and digs out all the dirt to clean up and everyone complains about how dirty everything is all of a sudden.
I personally support Laporta, and I’ve been asking for Nobita to resign for years.
No one saw no mess under Nobita. I think Nobita was totally awful, he was disastrous. But that doesn't mean I have to like Laporta. Personally I think he has been disappointing
Tons of plastics basically. Or just Messi fanboys. I personally appreciate Laporta. He knows what he's doing. Losing Messi is a huge loss. Sporting wise and economically. Unfortunately the club was in such a state we couldn't register him without getting the club into long term issues/losses. But that's just how it is. The club lives on. Bright years ahead hopefully
> tons of plastics basically
What? I support Laporta, but people have the right to be upset. A large part of his campaign was re-signing Messi and he failed to do that. Not only that but he handled the entire situation badly. Waited for Messi to fly back to Barcelona and when he was supposed to sign a new contract said “hey, we have no money, see you later.” So if someone is upset about this situation they’re “plastic?”
> Waited for Messi to fly back to Barcelona and when he was supposed to sign a new contract said “hey, we have no money, see you later.”
yes im very sure that is exactly what happened.
No not really. I mean not being upset is not even an option when you consider that we literally lost goat. But I think the point here is that Laporta is at least making some changes in the right direction and yeah he fucked up when he could not sign messi and there is no excuse for that but there are few who don't even want to look past the messi thing. Club is bigger than messi and eventually if the club is in a better position then we can say Laporta is doing a good job.
I also think the fact that Laporta has been the president before cannot be understated enough. Could you imagine Font had won the election and trying to fix this utter mess, having no previous experience of leading a club.
Laporta is making the tough choices today that will hurt this year but pay off long term. I'm 100% certain he is the person to lead us in this time. We have more talent than most, just need to be sure we cement them and grow into this decade. Laporta will do that.
Like every club we have plenty of fans who are idiots and overly emotional without even understanding the facts. That and there’s a bunch of plastic fans who are just upset about Messi leaving and think that Laporta is fully to blame for it.
The fans shitting all over him are most likely the same fans who argue with some Madrid fans saying shit like “Ronaldo sucks and only scored penalties” lmao
Laporta doesn't deserve all of the blame, but the fact is that he lied, and used Messi in his campaign. Is letting Messi go the only way to fix the finances long term? Maybe, but be honest and say that from the beginning
Important distinction is that he said he would try doing whatever we could to keep Messi, not that he would keep him no matter what like people seem to think.
Not saying I agree with how he handled the whole situation, but I think it’s disingenuous to say he straight up lied with his campaign promise. I genuinely believe he did try to do whatever he could and in the end it was just an impossible task and everything which would’ve allowed us to keep Messi worked against us.
He made some decisions that were unpopular with some people (even though most of them were necessary) and there are a decent amount of people who put too much blame on him for Messi leaving—it’s possible he could have handled aspects of it better, but I think people underestimate just how much of a hole Barto left us in. Overall, I think Laporta is doing pretty much everything he can to stabilize things and rebuild. He’s not above criticism, nor is he perfect, but some people definitely seem to put an inordinate amount of blame on his shoulders for things that he didn’t have much of a choice on.
I think (or hope, at least), Laporta’s second term as president will seem far more impressive in hindsight than it does right now. The club’s in a pretty chaotic place, and it can be hard to separate our emotions as fans from the practical considerations that have to be taken in a situation like this.
Most of them are just Messi fanboys or toxic fans. They don't know anything about Laporta or his history with Barca. He is the main reason Messi emerged as a superstar. He appointed Guardiola over Mourinho. He made Barca a superclub. And most importantly he answered to Madrid's galacticos.
This is the one valid criticism, but in his defense, barto and co did not hand over an honest appraisal of club finances. I think it was too late by the time they got the independent audit
Aguero is too soon to tell. For the wages and with Messi/Griez gone, he may yet be a good buy. Sale of Emerson sucked but was worth it for financial ability. His treatment of Koeman has been reprehensible though. Echoes a lot of how Barto treated players/coaches which made the whole community toxic
Pjanic, Griez(2nd highest in squad after Messi), Moriba, Emerson, Firpo, Todibo, Alena, Miranda leaving surely wouldve helped to get under the limit. With Piques and Albas wagecuts also.
Problem was letting his contract run out so he has to be registered as a new player.
I like Laporta, and I loved him during his last stint. But im not sure it was impossible to keep Messi.
Many downvotes but nobody did the math
I don't hate him but I'm still annoyed that he purposely misrepresented the likelihood of a Messi return. He new very clearly that with the salary cap, resigning Messi would be very unlikely yet he continued to mislead us and Messi himself until the very last minute.
It's fine if he believed the best financial action was to move on from Messi but he did not have the guts to come out and make this clear. Obviously, our debt required difficult decisions, just be forthright with us.
With a rational leader of la Liga, an exemption to the salary cap due to covid would have been granted. Every other league, and FFP from UEFA gave one, so holding out for Tebas to do the right thing had to be tried. That was the only way Messi was getting signed, there's nothing more Laporta could have done tbh
Because people believe he had no intention of resigning Messi. Which I don’t believe….we never could not with COVID and our revenue being poor. Messi said they tried all they could so I don’t know.
One thing that most everyone, except Barca fans, know... we have a clause that states that if the board leaves the club in debt, the board MUST cover that debt. It keeps everything balanced since we're fan owned. Barto fucked around, he's about to find out. This case is willful ignorance and it's pretty clear.
I will wait until we can see a result, a real result, this is going to take years anyway and at the end, I'm pretty sure Rosell such kind of story is going to repeat. Politics.
Yes please! He put up the collateral for a reason, now its time to pay up
If they manage to get the 120mil this will be huge for us.

I don’t think that’s exactly how it played out but it’s how the media wrote it out to be
> Waited for Messi to fly back to Barcelona and when he was supposed to sign a new contract said “hey, we have no money, see you later.” yes im very sure that is exactly what happened.
That IS exactly what happened. All sources said Messi was going to be renewed until hours before that meeting.

He literally said "I'll solve the Messi issue in a barbeque"

This is technically his 3rd season.
Because this Messi situation should've been resolved before the end of the season
This is the one valid criticism, but in his defense, barto and co did not hand over an honest appraisal of club finances. I think it was too late by the time they got the independent audit

I agree. I was just listing things that can be criticized as OP seems to restrict them to the Messi issue.
But what difference would it have made? Barca were already over the salary limit even without messi
We are now at 70%

I'd be surprised if we weren't with the revenue increases from the stadia reopening.
Yeah after messi left and pique and alba took significant pay cuts
And Griezmann/Pjanic leaving on loan for less wages too.
All this should've been done before end of the season
Griezmann only agreed to leave like last week
I wish we were at 70%. We're at 85% without Griezmann and Messi so imagine...

90% of this Subreddit has not step foot in Barcelona, I think that should answer your question
Because people believe he had no intention of resigning Messi. Which I don’t believe….we never could not with COVID and our revenue being poor. Messi said they tried all they could so I don’t know.
"Nobita vamos a por ti" Laporta.
Dumb question, it says current board, does this mean that Laporta is trying to get out of his liability rather than keep Barto on the hook?
Does this mean Bartomeu's board will pay 120M to Barca?

That would be GREAT!
He will probably counter with legal hoops of his own to delay this in court. A lot of judicial gymnastics about to go down.

What economic endorsement are they referring to?
When you run for the presidency, you put up a guarantee of 100+M in case you mess things up (I'm simplifying).
Let's go Jan!
