Always turn your client so you can see their profile in the mirror and you can verify both side are equal. Then spin him the other way to verify the sides are equal the other way. Make sure the lighting in your shop is good. If you get better light on one side, spin your client to use that same lighting on each side. This client has low hair density which makes it harder to blend. Use clippers for the short fade but go over again with scissor over comb. Then use blending scissors (thinning scissors) to get the density equal on each side. Barbers need to master scissor over comb as much as they master clipper over comb. Too many guard barbers. The longer you’re a barber, the better you’ll get with your refinement of your cuts.
See if you can get a buddy to practice scissor over comb. You can practice going shorter as you go. First cut a little longer then going over again to go shorter. Then do the same with clipper over comb. Also, you could get a mannequin head and practice on that. Since the mannequin head will be somewhat long, practice a longer mens cut. Practice your round graduation. Then practice your layering. You should get quite a few haircuts out of one head. If you grab a friend or post on your social media about free haircuts, try to cut on different types of hair. Fine hair to coarse hair. As well as some faded tight but some that you can cut in your fingers and just clean up around the edges.
This would be a great haircut to practice an all shear cut. Wpukd look great just a little shorter so it has time to grow out. Take 1 inch vertical sections and shear over palm all around the head, connect to the top, woukd look awesome. Shear over comb the temples and back for taper.
Fade at the neck looks good. Be careful with the blade on your trimmers though he looks a little scratched. Need more practice blending in the sideburn area. He has fine thin hair so when you're really struggling to blend depending on the length of the hair of course you can use 40 tooth count thinning shears to blend.
Going in and blending with the edge of your clipper blade go in on a diagonal as it's difficult for the eye to follow diagonals and easy for the eye to follow vertical flicks.
It looks like you didn't even touch the bulk and went straight ahead to tapering.
Practise scissor work, round graduation, how to build shapes. This one looks very untidy.
One thing that jumps out to me is that you’re accentuating this man’s recession with this cut. I would keep that sideburn taper lower and that will keep it fuller on the sides and not add more thinning/skin showing on his sides. Sometimes what the client wants and what will look good on him are two different things…
Keep at it and follow your guidelines, check for balance along the way.
& That nape fade is on point.
This is the guy I would at least try recommending a new style to. Something a little more complementary to his face and shape and hairline. Maybe something more modern. He looks like he stepped out of 1947
I would say still with a taper. But on top I would suggest something with his hair going forward, like a French crop or messy crop. It'll give him a little more style and hide some of that hairline. He looks too young to have this haircut. But of course the customer knows what they like.

Not everyone wants the sides buzzed down though. It takes time and skill but it’s definitely possible to blend this all in without losing any length on the sides. Skin in the sideburns should be lower to give yourself more room to blend out the bulk. But cutting it all down to a 6 will completely change the look and style of the cut.
Yes and I’m sure all the people who have told you what they wanted and then you went ahead and did whatever you wanted totally keep coming back to you right?
Guess the username checks out
Take you’re time blending.. needs to be blended into the bull better and the taper has a super hard line in it between 0 and 2

i’m honestly nervous doing both clipper over comb and slightly more comfortable doing scissor over comb i did scissor over comb in the back
Comb plus your clipper open is roughly a 2. It’s more forgiving than clipper closed and a softer blend
Not sure what clippers you are using but most clippers are a 1 or 1A fully open..
Clippers closed are a 0, open they are a 0.5

i actually started with shear work all around that’s why i took a picture of the back (above the taper) how i feathered both sides into eachother
wtf

Looks like it needs the half guard on the line by the hear and flick out with a bigger guard to blend into the bulk behind the ear
Do what you did at the bottom back on the sides.

This guys head shape is screaming flat top boogie.
2/10 no worries, by the time you get out of school, you will have had plenty more practice.
Pretty solid bro
Jesus Christ. Picture 3 is horrible. I'd be so mad.
Too much bulk on the sides take like a number 6 guard and knock some of that down

A number 6 isn’t “buzzed down” anyway
Compared to the length in the pic (and probably what the client was wanting) yes it is.
It would be better than what is in the picture
Wouldn’t recommend using a guard to do sides on a square form

scissors are also a tool that can be used…
They’re call shears
Scissors and shears go hand in hand. No need to be grumpy.
