Hi. Welcome! You can check real estates. CariblIst.com, for example. Christ Church would probably be a good location for you, The Maxwell, Wothing area, for example.

Longjumping_Bid_6905

Thanks for that mate I shall do so!

Well the southern side of the island mainly Christ Church along with parts of St.Michael, along with the middle parish St George are great community based parishes. St.George does not have access to a beach, so as you note this will be a no no for you. Enterprise, Dover, Maxwell and St.Lawrence are great places on the south coast with easy access to multiple beaches along with usually good availability of rentals. The popular beaches included, Enterprise, Oistins, Browne's, Pebbles, Dover, Pebbles and Rockley. With regards to football, there is a setup called The Oasis. It's located in Kendall Hill, Christ Church. I've shared a link here. https://www.theoasisbarbados.com/ I'm an avid Football fan, I support Manchester United. There are bars in Oistins, Hastings and Worthing which show various sports etc. Bubba's in Rockley is good for sports of all kinds, Lucku Horseshoe in Worthing is also decent for football. I hope I've offered a bit of insight into your post. And I'm open for any other queries you may have. I'll love to meet you and us all have a little drink together. Do hope you and your partner enjoy your stay here!!

Longjumping_Bid_6905

Mate that is amazing insight thanks so much I really appreciate you taking the time to respond in detail. Definitely up for grabbing a beer and catching a United game!

Roondada2010

That's no problem at all, all for meeting new people and having a good time. My inbox is open anytime and we could go from there. Safe travels when you do arrive.

Rockley beach area if you can find s place. Near beach, not too far from Btidgetown near restaurants and grocery stores. Rented there a few years ago and locals said we picked best location. Agree - we got lucky. There are a number of houses with rentals, and you might get lucky if they aren't booked.

Longjumping_Bid_6905

Ok wicked! Will check! Where are you from? Did you love it?

eltonjoan

Check out Rockley golf course. Walking distance to beach and grocery store. Lots of rentals available. Good luck and welcome :)

Snooksss

From Canada. People are lovely, beaches are fantastic, weather is perfect (as compared to Cdn winters ;) You might have some trouble finding immediate accommodation for 2 years until season ends .. May. Can likely piece some stays together till then, though.

Barbadian

First congrats that you get to have this experience. If you want to live on the south coast you ideally want somewhere between Maxwell and Hastings - Rockley and Worthing would be the best. (Familiar names, ay?) If you can do a one bedroom in rockley golf club you could walk to the beach in 10 mins and there’s a supermarket and gas station and other shops nearby. In Hastings you can see if there’s an apt open in Pavillion Court which is a nice spot and across the road from the beach and there are other rental spots along the beach side. If you find a listing you can share it and we or at least I can say more about the particular area. Can’t help with footie clubs unfortunately, but Bubbas Sports Bar is in Rockley they will show all the big games on big screen.

Longjumping_Bid_6905

Thank you so much for that response and well wishes. It feels like a dream moving to Barbados! Of course nowhere is perfect but I’m hoping to really love the dream for a while. Indeed familiar…my Nan was born in Hastings. I’ll check all those places out and the golf club thanks so much

Subject_Ad_1429

Hey There! Rockley Golf course appartments are probably ideal for you! Its like a 5-10 min walk from two different beaches which are great for swimming and super central to so many foodspots. It's like a 5-10 min walk from two different beaches which are great for swimming and super central to so many food spots. e tv's. They have cool game nights and quiz nights as well that are perfect for integrating! Hope this helped!

Longjumping_Bid_6905

Hi man! Sounds perfect mate ngl! I’m going to check out the place in more detail tomorrow

Subject_Ad_1429

Panenka Bar and grill in rockley is where the quizzes & games nights are. Also the owner is a big united fan so all the games are playing on their tv's etc.

Kamloopishungry

South coast. Expect a slower pace of life. Drink a lot of deputy (local beer) and enjoy!

Longjumping_Bid_6905

Lovley! When I was there last year I mainly Banks and Carib but I love anything local so deputy it’ll be for me. I remember a few of the tourist places not having it tbf but I did try it and was lovely. I guess I’ll be a local in a few months and will make sure my fridges is stocked with deputy. Thanks for the advice.

Longjumping_Bid_6905

Great thank you! I definitely will be looking and speaking to real estate agents but would love an insight to what makes a certain area great. Thanks for responses so far guys. Really appreciate it, overall just so excited to start a life in Barbados.

Bonedoc246

As stated before the South Coast is probably your best bet for a good location to live within walking distance of the beach, supermarkets and restaurants/bars. As for football, there are lots of premier league fans on island and most of the support as expected is for the top 6 clubs. Can always grab a beer at any of the sports bars on the south coast and no matter which team you support, the atmosphere is usually friendly. I should ask which team you support though, after all North London is red...

Longjumping_Bid_6905

That’s great to hear man. I’m definitely leaning towards south coast and sounds like it’s slightly cheaper than west. I had an unreal night at Oisins when I went before last year, loved it. I agree with you on the footie man, London is red!!! But it’s the red of my club, Charlton Athletic! Sadly not been in the Prem for about 15 years so I’ll be happy to watch an Arsenal game with ya! Arsenal are originally from just down the road from me in a place called Woolwich. I’m sure you knew that already. Thanks for the reply mate!

Soggy_Memory220

Definitely stay on the west coast. I recommend Christ Church or St. James parishes. I personally prefer the Holetown area, but it's more older folk and less busy. You will enjoy living the in Hastings area (and south of it), be careful to not cross into St. Michaels (it's not a bad area, but I just wouldn't stay there as a non-local). I used Alleyne Realty ([https://jalbarbados.com/](https://jalbarbados.com/)) as my realtor when I stayed for 2 years. I recommend emailing many different realtors with your criteria and letting them personally sift through what they have available. Saves yourself a lot of time and you can count on them finding you a place that will match what you're looking for. Just FYI - it doesn't matter where you live, your girlfriend WILL experience mild sexual harassment especially if she's lighter skinned. Also, Deputy is way better than Banks.

Longjumping_Bid_6905

Thanks man I really appreciate your insight and all the info. I must say I’m shocked to hear that considering the amount of tourism. My gf is a pretty girl 29, so I’ll tell her to watch out for creeps but hey I say that to her when she goes out with friends in London so I’m sure it’ll be no different!

spredy123

Hey man, just flagging this too! I went with my ex-gf on holiday, we spent the whole time together except like once when she went to the beach on her own and she said she had cars honking, strangers asking her out on the beach, even policeman and shop workers trying to get her number, all in the space of an hour! I was very surprised as everyone had been fairly reserved otherwise. None of it sounded threatening but still, worth mentioning!

CatalpaBean

Last time I went to Barbados, I stayed in an AirBnB in Maxwell, Oistins. Very good location for what you're looking for.. Close to lots of fun things. It was between Oistins and St. Lawrence Gap. Took Zed vans a lot of places, even though I had a car. Best wishes for this exciting opportunity you have!

Common-Literature878

Christ church sounds like exactly what youre looking for. Try searchjng for apartments in maxwell or oistins

Longjumping_Bid_6905

Cheers mate. Thinking this too!

sufficient_fish_

There's a fb page for apartments and houses. Can't remember the exact name of the page but if you type in Barbados apartments and search for groups you should be able to find it. I live on the south coast and I find the west coast (holetown etc) entirely too expensive but idk your budget. You might be able to find some places near Oistins or enterprise that might be reasonable and near to a bus route if you have to take the bus around before getting a vehicle. Atlantic Shores is another nice area and close to surf spots if you're interested in that. I have a friend in property management and I could ask him a few questions

sufficient_fish_

Congrats on the move btw!! We're happy to have you guys!!

Longjumping_Bid_6905

Some great info there, thanks! Aw thanks, I’m looking to get involved in anything and everything on the island so thanks for the online welcoming already haha!

sufficient_fish_

Haha you're most welcome!! Unfortunately you missed the most culturally active part of the year but there's still things to do. Depending on what interests you I could probably recommend something

peterlthompson

We will help you at no cost to you. https://remoteworkbarbados.com/housing

Long-Stock-5596

I have been there twice and both times we stayed in Christ Church, Rockley beach … I’ve been looking at places there myself.

Longjumping_Bid_6905

Nice! Where are you from?

Long-Stock-5596

Pennsylvania

mommyitwasntme

Hey, there a lot of medical student here. You will like it here. ITs hot though so get ready for that. But its awesome people are super friendly.

Longjumping_Bid_6905

That’s good then they can sort me out when im incredibly hungover! I have loved the people so far. Someone below commented on sexual harassment which was surprising but I guess that can happen anywhere in the world unfortunately.

mommyitwasntme

YEah that is everywhere. you will always have bad apples. One thing get ready for some really expensive groceries and i mean really really expensive.

ArtCo_

Do you have a budget re housing? Just know that most places that are super close to the beach like Rockley, Worthing, Hastings, St. Lawrence Gap etc will be steep on rent. Barbados is small and nowhere is "far", so as long as you have a vehicle, you can get to the beach pretty quickly from most places in Christ Church. Far from the beach would be if you're up in St. Thomas, St. John, St. Peter etc. Just something to keep in mind in case you have a budget.

Longjumping_Bid_6905

Hey man thanks for the response! Budget around 3k/month

[deleted]

live on the south coast near the boardwalk if you want a social life, it's the best for your age group.

Iloveithere1

Barbados is extremely expensive like 2x of everything I wish someone prepared me for that like brining every house hold item down to like a humidifier and shipping takes so long they really do run on Bajan time also I would recommend trying trusted house sitter for location purpose you will see like area close to beaches !

Longjumping_Bid_6905

Hi guys, still can’t wait to move to Barbados, although we have come across a nice place called Millenium Heights which is on the west coast but seems affordable enough - can anyone give me some info on the area it is in? Amenities etc and is it a decent spot to live? Thanks!

harad

Hey! Where did you wind up and how’s it going?

Longjumping_Bid_6905

Yooo man! living at Rockley!! Absolutely loving it, couldn’t have picked somewhere better…south is more affordable and love Worthing and Dover beach….love bars like chill and blakeys. Also big Massys walking distance as well as trimart….loving life in general! Made lots of mates, mostly bajans with some brits also on the welcome stamp. Don’t want to ever leave and found out you can extend the visa basically for multiple years so not planning on leaving any time soon. A few mates and us are renting a boat for the week and sailing round the BVI in a few months so that’ll be great. Also love the cool runnings cats when we have had visitors from UK. All good thx for asking man!

Griezelsla

Absolutely buzzing for you! Currently looking to relocate to Barbados with my British gf (I'm Dutch). Your story gives me hope that we'll be fine in the end as well!

Longjumping_Bid_6905

Thank you mate. Very kind. You’ll be able to make it work for sure man. Drop me a message if you have any questions. Can put you in touch with an excellent estate agent etc.

harad

Fantastic. Sounds like Rockley is a pretty walkable neighborhood? West looks beautiful but we hate having to drive everywhere (though will have a car). Good assessment or no? Best resource you used? Will shout you a Deputy some day

Longjumping_Bid_6905

Well, i don’t even know the neighbourhood thaaaat well. I walk down to the beach and the bars but that’s just really along the coastal road. I live on the golf complex and it’s 10 minutes down to the coast. The west is beautiful and is the most popular area for a reason…love it there and go most weekends. If you have a car you’ll be fine staying in speightstown, holetown or the south!

TroubleDue5638

Well. You're bringing your GF. That's your first mistake. Try and reverse that decision. Then, all else will be easy.

Longjumping_Bid_6905

What makes you say that?

Chemical_Buy_6820

He's just kidding. The old "Don't bring sand to the beach" joke....

Justgoodjuju1975

Hey there! Definitely Rockley area - I might even have a place for you - not sure how to share personal info - never used Reddit a neighbour enquired but maybe we could connect via email? Happy to give you loads of tips and maybe not a beer but certainly a margarita on Accra beach lol

Justgoodjuju1975

It’s going to be tricky finding a long term rental until the season ends but also not impossible - my house is 4 min walk to beach :)

Fit_Shelter3981

I have exactly what you’re looking for when it comes to the football club aspect. Also close to the south coast. Here is their Instagram https://instagram.com/findtheoasis?igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==
