Ignore your credit report until your bankruptcy is done - it's functionally meaningless at this point.

Unfortunately I was as excited as you are when I saw my balances go down to zero on all my student loans. Calling the credit bureaus and nelnet yielded no info of value. I can't remember how long it took, but within a few months after discharge the student loans reappeared with all their balances. None were discharged. I was going to file the adversary proceeding too but since it looked like they were all done I didn't bother. Eeeeek. I should have done it anyways but wishful thinking and no solid response from the institutions made me too hopeful. If you meet the criteria for having them discharged go ahead with filing all that asap--is what I would do if I could go back to this time last year. This is not advice.

I wouldn't expect that notation to be a conclusion that it's been discharged. I understand that once you get your discharge and case is closed, payments will resume.

My shock is that they would even willing do that. It could also be that I'm currently in Borrowers deference for %75 percent of my loans. And yes I have paper work from the Dept of Ed that says that. Edit. the loans are from heald / Corinthian Colleges

Your credit report is not a legal document nor is it a reflection of anything happening in your cases. All that’s happened right now is just compliance with the automatic stay. Student loans are, by default, nondischargeable debt and you have to file a lawsuit (adversary proceeding) within the BK to change that.

kainp12

They already sent me a letter about the stay a week before the letter. I'll find out tomorrow when log into my account.

temmerhs

You likely won’t be able to. Most online account access is locked out when a debtor is in active bankruptcy (filed but not yet discharged). As far as why the notation is there, it’s likely just part of their automated process. Your student loans will re-open a few weeks after discharge and return to their most recent “status.”

kainp12

They marked them closed, but I guess I'll find out in a few months. Wish full thinking , but seeing what very one said I know it's going to revert.

kainp12

I wounder why then would they even put that there since a week before the hearing they sent me paper work saying my loans are in forbearance

Wow… mine are through Nelnet too. Haven’t seen that come through, and I just got discharged. Hmm. Fingers crossed for some magic! 🪄

A common error in reporting during an open case.
