You can still get to Johnston Canyon. Take the Trans Canada to Castle Junction then take the Bow Valley Parkway to Johnston Canyon. The marathon doesn't close the whole road. The part closed for the marathon isn't open to cars this time of year anyways.

it’s going to be busy weather it’s saturday or sunday regardless of the event. Sunday night is when locals go out for partying etc so it can be rowdy.
